It's not sweet actually...for being a SquareEnix game it's pretty craptastic. The UI is junk, the graphics and gameplay are pure 2000, it doesn't support WS monitors well, and the community that's grown up around it so far are a bunch of fanatics who'll flame you for pointing our their baby is ugly.

Gameplay means squat when you have to run the game in a postage stamp window on a WS monitor.

Pftt...I'm not mad at the battle system..the whole game sucks.

Run and run hard, this game is a grind-fest cash-shop required game that tries to push itself as neither. The game is too realistic in some respects and comes off more like a Virtual Poverty Simulator more than an actual game. The severs are also loaded with Pedo's and jerks who wanna watch 10-year old avatars run around in their undies.

Nicely put the game stinks..don't even bother.

In all the commenting about not caring about delays due to lacking PvP functions..your forgetting one key thing: for PvPers, the PvP functions are the only things that matter on release because that's all they're paying for. While PvE players may dabble in PvP and therefore not care if it's a little lacking at first, the PvP hardcore feel that it's a slap in the face not to have it all NOW...in fact they mostly feel slightled that they even have to go through the PvE storyline to even keep up with the items and such so they can PvP.

Personally, I say tough s*(@ to them because I'm a PvE player/dungeon crawler, but I can see why they would claim failure if what they want isn't in.

It's not a good idea to cutdown EVE Online because CCP/White Wolf owns a lot of great unique IP like World of Darkness, Scion, etc. CCP is currently working on World of Darkness MMO which will surely be sandboxy.

The List:

Champions Online (Cryptic studios makers of City of Heroes) -->

Will be a hybrid (sandbox/linear). Be any hero you can imagine. I dont know how you've not heard of this

All Points Bullentin --->

From the mind behind GTA and Crackdown xbox360. What? you never played Crackdown? Well it was a fun little sandbox coop RPG check it out. APB will be good I think

Fallen Earth---> Scifi MMO

WELL Online --> Scifi MMO. Promises fast ramp up.

LinkRealms --> medival sandbox MMO. Be anything you want. Make your own house/realm and populate it.

Earthrise --> Scifi MMO. Looks great should be good.

There's really a long list. I am probably missing a few that we dont know much about like Blackstar and others.

dont forget darkfall

DarkFall get's no listing till it's proven it exists as something other than a nice website and some modeled screenshots

The problem with sandbox games is they don't really attract a "mainstream" audience anymore.  The rewards require much more "work" than should be needed in a game, and most people already have a real-life job to cover that aspect of their lives.

Take the open-beta of a game called Mabinogi...the game is very sandbox with the quests being just  a means to gain skills and small amounts of money. I thought it might be interesting since I've not seen a sandbox game in quite awhile, but good Lord it feels like I'm playing a Virtual Poverty Simulator rather than a game. Go chop wood before you can build a campfire that will allow you to heal yourself, get berries before you starve and your stamina is cut down to nothing, and if you want that neat sword at the blacksmiths (as opposed to hoping someone has made it far enough to actually make one and NOT rape you on the cost) you better have over 180k gold handy because he's a greedy little snot.

Most people don't play games to go through that, ergo most people will be turned off by sandbox games...and since games are there to make $$ (sorry to break that to you) most games will not go that route.

Other than the fact the DC Online exists, there is NO information on the game

Marvel Universe Online was canceled this week so there won't be any info on it at all. Microsoft and Cryptic started developing the game before WoW became the 800lb monster it is now and they decided if they couldn't go big like they, they'd rather not try at all.

On the upside, Cryptic got the license to do a Champions MMO (which will have them competing with their freshmen effort CoH, which is now owned by NCSoft and therefore no longer theirs to worry about).

That answer why these games aren't on here?

Joke all you want but I can see this game as a nice gateway for younger teen girls getting into gaming, and increasing the number of people that play games period is always a plus in my book.

You also have anime fangirls (and some fanboys) who grew up with the iconic little kitty and her pals who will like that aspect alongside the socialization aspects.

It may not be on a hard-core players top 10, but it'll still serve a purpose.

There will probably not be another WoW...or if there is one it won't be anytime soon. WoW just had confluence when it came out that it hit all the right sweet spots of the time..it was a bright spot (tho not perfect) in what had been a wasteland, it had Blizzards rep behind it, and a built-in audience around the world.

In short it's the fluke that roared. I quit once I finally got a mount and realized they were essentially useless for a rogue who depended on stealth 95% of the time. It became such a glaring timesink that it made me realize I needed to walk away from the game before I spent more time on things that had no use for my character or made no sense for my playstyle.

With the big dark cloud o' stink surrounding the project, it's highly doubtful there will be a release date...write this one off as vaporware until further notice

and preorders too because they figures there might be some shipping snafus...like them or not, you have to give them credit for giving us that kind of leeway

That's because they either broke street-date or are holding what copies they have for the pre-order people picking up on the 31st (or today, if they decide to break street-date for the pre-orders and not the punters)

Experience in another project position tells me no, they aren't bitching but that no one from their branch offices has told them the change in dates...they may find out after store "open" tomorrow morning (meaning of course morning set up)

Actually most retailers have changed the ship-date but not the street-date...I just finished talking to the brick-and-mortar Gamestop I pre-ordered from and no word has come down to break street-date yet. They're just shipping from their distribution centers tomorrow so that people have the games in their hands either later that day (after end of business day will count as the 31st) or the next day during normal route times.  If they do break street-date I'll probably head down and pick it up in the evening.

Personally, I blame all the Socialist brainwashing being done in schools for the way people act now...it's suddenly become a sin to do things that might *gasp* help you make more of a profit.

I am kind of saddened by this.   It's not the sub per se, 10 bucks isn't much, but I really don't care about the multiplayer aspect of the game.   I don't care about PvP, ladders, or even seeing other ppl in game.    I just want to play the game, the WHOLE game, from start to finish with one of each class.   Is this possible without the sub?    The only real thing I'd miss is the extra stash and being able to hand off stuff.

It just kind of bugs me that I have no interest whatsoever in the online aspect of the game but might still have to pay a sub just to get all the content.

Okay, you've been horribly mis-informed somewhere Rob..the single player is by itself, a complete game..you can play start to finish with the 6 classes included in the initial release. You DON'T have to pay a sub to play online with 3 characters and the stash size your used to playing with.  You are only paying for the "extras" that most people want to equate with a "fuller" online-experience.  You will still get patches that fix in-game issues for single player AND the "base" multi-player aspect of the game.  Basic, opt-in PvP is free as well BTW. FSS also keeps add to what they offer in the free portion of the game, by addition not subtraction as evidenced by letting the freebies earn Achievements as well as the subbers.

Bottom line:  You don't have to pay if you don't want to, but paying to get perks is there if you want to EXPAND the experience.

It's simply: No, HGL is NOT a MMORPG.  There's nothing "massively multiplayer" about it.  It's an oniine RPG, sure, and a fun one at that.  But you only run into a smattering of other players in the hubs, nothing "massive" about it.

That said, neither is GW..but MMO has become the new generic term for any online offering that provides content experienced via avatar-based interaction. And as a point of order, the online component has been a part of the game all along..not something "tacked on to rip people off." If it were tacked on they wouldn't have bothered to run the network through the testbed of what is now their 2nd game, Mythos (which, honestly, is closer to a Diablo clone than HGL will ever be).

You either like the style of play it offers or you don't, but don't go breaking into frothing rage just because it's not your cup of tea. Unless you set your expectations too high and thought this was going to be some great WoW Killer, then that's your fault.

heh as soon as my payment for the contract work I'm tying up this week comes in...I'm going Founders even though the odds on the 15 month payback curve are kinda slim..remember you have to anticipate the game being up for at least 16 months to make it worth it...the average time-frame of even mediocre MMO's is 18-22 months (Auto Assault, as an example), so it should pay for itself if the that timeline applies.

That's right...they did update that early last week about the achievements being for everyone now..and other people are saying they're kicking around making the stuff that's subscriber-based made available to the freebies after the subscribers have had a chance to play it to death. It appears tho that whoever posted that newsbit didn't check against updated info and was running with the old info.

Bottom line, I'm picking up my pre-order early on the 31st, and kiss my behind if you think I care about your op/ed.

....BigBlackWook...your Cabal under yet another screen-name aren't you? He's the only person I know on here that would be so blind as to keep fighting when it's obvious he's lost and making himself look even more like the fool he is.
