I tried the trial and bought the game a month or so ago. I was looking for a new game, as I have been playing Ryzom for a few years and wanted a change of scenery. I didn't buy the game thanks to the trial, but in spite of it. I have seen some pretty outdoor screenshots and the trial had only these claustrophobic indoor spaces And I hated the trial's blue arrows showing which way to run, I almost felt insulted. There are some really neat planets to visit in the real game and I liked how detailed the game was. That was great. Flying spaceships was fun, but not enough for a subscription. An annoying thing was how mobs seemed to spawn as I visited the area. So, when I drove around in my vehicle and stopped it, mobs popped up from nowhere. That was a minus in my book. And the towns could feel a bit laggy, maybe I just had too high settings. I can't say much about the combat, it felt standard except that I had to aim at the mob. The game with all expansion comes quite cheap so I didn't feel to bad after just doing a test drive. But, I felt like going back to my old game again. I might even subscribe another time... guess I'm just not a Star Wars fan and compares it too much with Ryzom. |

Suggestion; get an external HD. They come quite cheap nowadays. I think VG reads quite a lot from the disk so it may affect the performance. <-- It was a relief to uninstall VG, as my internal HD is tiny. |

On the other hand... you can use all three damage types (smashing, slashing, piercing) with the same gun and skill, just use different type of ammo. My best melee skill is smashing which can be very ineffective on certain mobs, ranged combat is more flexible in this regard. And running and shooting with a "area of effect" weapon like the autolauncher is the most fun I had in the game. You gather a train of mobs and damage all of them at once. Though I get a feeling it looks a bit like a chase in Benny Hill... |

Can you build cities in EVE? You can build houses and guild houses in Vanguard, but not in Ryzom. Ryzom has only apartments - or "outposts" to fight over. But in my opinion Ryzom is more of a sandbox as you are not locked to a class, and will have to find your own path as questing matters very little. Ultima Online should be sandboxy I think. |

I don't think it's east prefer this, we prefer that... Point and click also saves alot of network and server processing compared to WASD. Running around with a WASD client you need to send left-forward-forward-left-left-etc messages to the server while Point and click only need to know your original position and your destination. Most F2P games are usually quite laggy in central areas... I believe that Icelandic space game uses point and click as well. Probably because they can do big epic battles without lag that way. Or maybe Iceland is just a "different culture" as well? |

I'm not sure I understand. Do you want to "beat" the game; ie reach the "endgame"? or is it just the ding, the sense of accomplishment you want? What if there was double XP and twice the amount of levels? |

How was/is the original Jumpgate, besides the twitching? Is it a casual PVP shooter or a "deeper" RPG? (I just recieved 9 newsletters from EVE, which reminded me of the 9 times I tried the game without getting hooked) |

Oh, I tried EVE. It's not my thing and I prefer Ryzom. It's not just the no avatar thing, but Tabula Rasa is supposed to be a focused on PVE (with some PVP elements). It just suits me better. I'm sure there will be massive battles in non-instanced zones in Tabula Rasa (it's not easy to demo with just two players in the game like in the Mogarmy vid), but my concern is - what else is there but combat? Are the logos supposed to be an interesting gameplay element? |

Maybe I had too big hopes to begin with... I hoped for a new sci-fi MMO to take Ryzom's place for me, but I'm skeptic now. Will this be just another action MMO or are there any "world elements" too it? Playing soldier can be fun of course, but only for a limited time. To call a MMO my home I need stuff like interesting crafting and politics/conflict and playerbased economy and a sense of exploration. On the plus side. Garriot has spoken of exposing the players to moral dilemmas, and that the battle front is dynamic (which might be fun if it doesn't feel too scripted). I'll probably try it but if it's just a ahoot'em up then I doubt I'll stay more than a month. Any thoughts? |

Dual boxers aren't all that uncommon in Ryzom. People do it for various reasons; some dig in highlevel areas during off-hours, some have a "caddie" to carry ammunition for launchers, some have an extra character for extra inventory space, etc. The question is, how does it affect your gameplay? Leveling doesn't matter, cause that is usually dependant on how many hours you can spend on playing the game. And we all know that gold sellingis a non-issue in Ryzom. Dual boxing hardly matters in an OP battle with 80-150 participants. Me, I can't do two things at the same time. I couldn't handle two characters. |

First of all, SWG's free trial is really worthless. I hated the space station and the dungeon. The real game is much much prettier than the trial. Vast outdoor areas. Technicolor sunsets. And I like pretty sunsets. Hello! Star Wars Galaxies ain't that bad. I'm a Ryzom player and I was curious if the grass was greener in SWG. And the details do impress me. The game has SO many items and different types of gameplay. The mobs doesn't impress much though. I enjoy travelling in Ryzom much more than in SWG. Space combat was fun, I enjoy dogfighting. I haven't decided if I want to stay yet, I have a few questions: |

Best storyline. A hard question, there are so many different ways to tell a story in a MMO. WoW made a good job making the new player get into the game. Questing is pretty good, but the individual can't do any real choices. I REALLY enjoyed the first 30 levels, but... not after that. Then there are the PVP games (like EVE and L2, etc) that doesn't focus on quests, but on the players' power struggles. That could lead to more involve stories, blood sweat and tears, than the prewritten quests ever could. I'm not into that kind of emotional content though. Ryzom's original idea was a storyline that progress, and it did for a while, with invasions and new areas and factional wars. The background story is fantastic, but economy has not let it evolve in-game for quite some time. |

There's many things in the game that interest me, but after three trials I'm still not hooked... But I guess that would make it a different type of game |

I can't see a problem from a RPG point of view, PnP usually have permadeath. But as a MMORPG business model it has some flaws apart from the lag issue. Having a high level character makes the game much more addictive than if you have to start over and over. |
