Thanks, but can a level 30 crafter make level 40 or 50 items and enhancements, or is the adventure level limiting the crafted products? |

Just a simple question: Can a level 30 crafting alt make weapons for higher level toons, or can he just make level 30 weapons? If the latter is true, can you level the crafter toon by crafting alone? I.e does crafting give XP? |

Well... Ryzom is offline. I loved the game for many reasons while some aspects weren't all that good. But I haven't found a game with a gameworld and backstory as fascinating as Ryzoms's. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? So please, gameplay (and graphics) aside, which MMORPG's setting and lore rocks your boat and why? |

Ryzom has been on backburner ever since Gameforge decided THEY couldn't make it profitable, that was about a year ago. I think there are several ways to revive the game. |

It's third person. But it's over-the-shoulder, unlike most other MMOs. |

I'd try to see if I can post on the forum. If you can, then it means your sub was active when they froze the accounts. And, if so, you can play. |

I'm looking for a change of scenery because of Ryzom's current state, so I've got a few questions about EQ2. 1- server, ideally I'd play on a RP PVP server, but since I live in Europe, I'm not sure if it's the best choice. Would you recommend a European server or the RP PVP server for me? 2- WoW was a bit too linear to me, while Vanguard seemed like having more choices. I like to feel that I play the game, instead of following a predetermined path. How's EQ2 in this regard? (I don't really need a "sandbox" like Ryzom.) 3- A friend said EQ2 doesn't feel 'alive'. Vanguard did a bad job, especially the town NPCs. Is there any form of mob/npc AI in EQ2? |

Wouldn't AO2 kill AO1? In my opinion, updating these kinds of persistant worlds is prefered to closing and making new ones... |

I didn't see Ryzom on your list. The game is in financial trouble at the time but the trial is unlimited until level 50 (I think). It has extremely complex crafting. And I think the ULTIMATE crafting game is still around: A Time in the Desert. Not too pretty graphics, but it also have a free trial. |

The OP asked for a game where the mix of materials made a difference in the item's stats. Every Caldari Charon freighter is exactly the same, no matter who made it. As I understand it, crafting in EVE is more an economic matter than figuring out the optimal stats for the item. |

Sort of, Ryzom's crafting is very deep. |

Nice to see how they continue develop the game, it must generate tons of money for the owners. I've tried this game half a dozen times now, there's something interesting there (skillbased, sci-fi) but the "mob sweating" just feel so awkward that I quit after just an hour or so. I would like to have fun before investing in weapons and ammo. And the "real money transfer"-thing, how does that affect the playerbase. I'd expect a VERY greedy world where everybody try to trick you. Is it so? Last time I played they changed all the UGLY avatars to something more appealing. Well done, I really couldn't stand the old ones. |

The question is, why not continue playing EVE? I guess there must be something you want to change with the game. What? There are some games that have similar features. For example: Pirates of the Burning Sea - 18-century pirate theme, but similar in deep economy and non-magic ship combat. I see it as EVE without griefing, PVP is voluntary. Ryzom (in financial trouble currently) and Ultima Online (or even Roma Victor!)- no spaceships here either, but they offer sandboxy freedom like EVE. Jumpgate - (the upcoming Jumpgate: Evolution) gives an "Elite"-type gameplay with joystick control. Plus, some smaller games, like Darkspace and Vendetta Online. Or empire building webgames like Ogame, etc. Nothing exactly like EVE, but if you were completely happy with the game you wouldn't ask, would you? EDIT: ok, you posted the second post while I was writing. The problem is limited time, right? MMORPGs and time are deadly enemies, unfortunately. |

I agree with the OP. For me the combat is fun enough, I ejoy taking on 5 enemies at the time instead of the usual 1vs1 for soloing in MMOs. But they shot themself in the foot and released this one-trick-pony without any community building qualities. When I am out hunting with old and new friends I want to be able to chat. It's not easy in this UI unless you use voice (which I dont). And I don't want to be out hunting ALL the time, IMHO they forgot to add a "hang around" gameplay. Many games have crafting, fishing, diplomacy, so you can chill out in the game. Most people plan on making a level 50 crafter clone instead of spending valuable ability points from the main toon. |

Hey Gil, I just voted on one of your pretty pictures earlier today :)
Vanguard. Despite it's huge world and a few nice ideas (like Diplomacy) - I feel I spend more time changing my settings than actually playing it and the dead-looking Mobs can't compare to the hunting Gingos in Fleeting Gardens. Tabula Rasa. I think the game do have fun combat and decent Mob AI, the game lacks the social stuff that makes Ryzom great (chatting ain't easy in a FPS UI) and I wouldn't mind anything else todo but combat-combat-combat. I haven't given TR a thought during holidays, while I wanted to come home and play Ryzom and even Vanguard. I wish I could stand EVE Online's cold and hostile world, but I know I don't want to log in to that empty space everyday. Maybe Pirates of the Burning Sea will do, I don't know enough about it yet. |

I noticed that lots of Ryzomers play LOTRO too. What in that game attracts the Ryzom player? I must have been mistaken when I saw it as just-another-standard-fantasy class based MMORPG. Maybe it's time for a trial... |
