I'm sorry, your complaining about this? Talk about fail on your part. First off the free transfer since JANUARY. Second , when they announced the closing over servers, emails were sent out, it was in giant letters on the main page AND forum. Every major MMO site picked up on the story AND everytime you logged in there was a big warning in bright yellow telling you what was happening.  The dead servers weren't picking up. I know at least Valcyn and Kauri were ghost towns. Numerous times I logged on Valcyn and I could count the number of players online on one hand.

If you missed this, this is entirely your own fault. SOE has borderline spamming people to make sure they know what's going on, and if you were still oblivious then let this be a lesson to next time look up on the game before you rejoin, and not to make assumptions that a company will keep handing out free things.

I Havnt seen ONE space mmorpg where you can see the interior. It's obviously a luxury at the high end and it bothers me too :3 mew

Star Wars Galaxies.

As for ships being too complicated. This was brought on by Cryptics approach. Many people didn't want the "everyone's a captain" system. People wanted to be Engineers or Science Officers.  The blueprints for these ships exsist on a multitude of websites. The Expansion for Elite Force  even had an entire explorable version of Voyager. But their biggest mistake which basically forces them to not be able to use ship interiors is planets. For whatever reason they added in planet surfaces which takes up space you could have used on ships.  I don't know about anyone else, but when I watch Star Trek, the majority of it seems to take part on the ship.

And it's not like people were unreasonable, more ideas then i can count were put forward on how to make feasible multipassanger ships with officers, but Cryptic didn't seem to care.

Lol I have that Innovation inspirational picture sitting beside me.  The picture never quite worked as well as some of the others but I always thought it was cool

Why Saturday? Saturday is the best day of Comic-Con, If it was Thursday Friday or Sunday I would ocnsider going, but my Saturday is full right now

Like mentioned above Freedom of Speech doesn't exsist in places like an online game. You click "I agree" to their terms of service which, among other things, state that they will moderate you as they see appropriate.

As for the name, I'm surprised you are surprised it was banned.  An admin has no way to know a players sexual orientation. As was said by Zorvan, you could be a straight player making fun of gays. There is no way to determine. And while you be comfortable with the word Queer, other people in the gay community may not.  Nothing I've seen makes me think Cryptic is "anti-gay"

No

What do yall think , i may be just crazy and paranoid and comparing this game too much with fallout.

 Yes

:P   It's post apocalyptic that's why it's somewhat similar but that's about it. Huxley is post apocalyptic too and totally different then FE or Fallout. I feel like there's at least one other PA title coming out but I forget.... o.O

Earthrise

Not in the slightest. One thing I found about LoTRO is that much of it is actually very plain.  You only find more screenshots because the areas that do look nice causes people to actually sttop and take a screenshot.   And for shots out in the open, that's nothing, I have screenshots of "wilderness" from lots of games, it's just being somewhere at just the right moment.

Not to mention it has the unfair advantage of  the books and movies behind it. Especially with the books. The books go over in-depth describing what a place looks like which simply translates to taking that and creating it in game.

I'd say it's no more or no less art then any other game. Actually I think there's a few game's I'd consider more artistic.

Rockstar generates a lot of controversy

Do you actually read what you quote or do you just use Google and hope no one looks. Do you know why GTA is related to controversy? HOT COFFEE. Not Crime, do you know how many gang and mobster themed games are out there?

In my defined online virtual identity I use a sword.

Seriously though, you do need to look at the internet more. Do you know how many web based MMO's already exsist out there that basically do exactly what this game does. None of this is new.

I'm not I'm going to get the fanboi label for this, but whatever.

First is Securom. While not a fan of copy protection of any sort I understand.  It wasn't that long ago when fans were begging companies to use securom instead of starforce. Securom is actually a quite small part of the whole company. And it simply provides a service. Lets not lose perspective that this is a multinational company, not a small company with 2 studios.

About rootkits. The music industry is hemmoraging money.  It is dying.  I had an instructor for several years who was was a high level executive at PolyGram. And to be honest it's honestly the same story. People are losing money  from music downloads. And it's fine to say oh well company X is huge and star Y already has enough money. But this also effects everyone down the line.  Companies are showing how vulnerable they are from former music-centric retail outlets selling less music and more gaming/DVD/Blu-Ray/Books and even Clothing to larger companies having to merge together to survive.  And let's be honest, the rootkit is something people brought on themselves. I'm not saying you, but people are assuming they can basically steal anything.  And while it's unfair that in encompassed everyone you can't blame a company for trying, however flawed the method may have been. It's redundant now anyway, they recalled them all and there is a removal kit for them.

As for SOE, which is the big culprit because they are the ones make the MMO's, and we're on a MMO site.

The NGE. To this day I still blame Lucasarts. People don't like that because it upsets their precious Star Wars. But have a look at  Lucas.  If you want to look at the larger company there is the whole prequal disaster.  Which is eally a seperate arguement itself. But Luacasarts doesn't always make decent games.  Heck Galactic Battleground ran like a bad Star Wars mod.  They don't  have the best customer support  and as a game gets old enough they basically sweep it's exsistence under the rug.   Now from  where I stand I look at SWG and EQ2. At the time EQ2 was failing, epicly.  If I was any logical person, and I had a stable decent game like SWG or a failing game like EQ2, and I wanted to tinker with it to make it more appealing, maybe even rival against World of Warcraft, which game would I choose? LA on the other hand has no influence on EQ2, but they can put preassure on SWG. That was an utter failure, several years later TOR is announced, with an oddly similar class based system that we saw forced onto SWG. Honestly, I turned this off years ago. I see no reason still being angry over something that happened 4 years ago.

MxO. Now the closure of this hit me hard, I had a lot of fun in this game. But it's been on lifesupport for sometime.  People are angry because SOE promised never to close down a game. I think what people are missing is that the economy isn't really in great shape. We've seen things happen that have basically altered the economic landscape. I don't think anyone expected this, and that includes SOE when they said they wouldn't shut down a game.

TCG. I really don't know what to make out of this. It really came out of left field.  Not it's biggest fan. Micro-transactions and a subscription model I can live with because you can simply use micro-transactions if you don't want to subscribe.

I'm not trying to change your mind, Raltar, you've fully made your perspective crystal clear.  The thing I don't understand is why you continue to come here. Your basically trolling in a game that hasn't even come out yet, and for the life of me I do't understand why. Instead of trying to cause conflict why don't you go to forums for games you enjoy.  I think it would make both the people who actually come here who are interested in the game and likely yourself feel more at ease.

Uh, they have 13 faces, not 11..  But that still begs that question as to why.

Troll fail.

There is at least 4 games in that batch of screenshots. AoC, LOTRO, VG and WAR

You cant forget about Star Wars Galaxies! They committed suicide with the Combat Upgrade and New Game Experience! especially after the NGE, they totally f*cked up the timeline!

When SWTOR releases, SWG will be able to RIP

Because Lucasarts had nothing to do with that. LA never makes a bad game or movie or any sort of bad decision. Because it makes more sense from Sony's perspective to tinker with a solid game like SWG (at that time) then to tinker with a floundering game like EQ2 (at that time).

It's not like LA isn't already getting their hands all over TOR

They have actually said for a long time PC and PS3 users will likely not be playing on the same servers because of obvious advantages to control.

Tasos was right and I applaud him. I also applaud your post.

The reason why his actions haven't been popular the past few days.

"EMO!": It would appear Tasos is being *shocker* emotional *shocker* about the unfair way his company, friends, colleagues and game has been slandered. I've read everything he wrote about the situation. He was very down to earth about it and also very rational. His actions and proposals were logical and I can't image anyone doing something else.
The reason why online communities have a hard time understanding his reaction is twofold. Firstly, people are used to developers behaving like they are super-human Gods, unwilling to stoop to the level of the mere masses. They're in fact shocked that they can't just treat this guy as an inanimate objects to which they can vent all their childish insecurities and short-lived angers like they do with other devs. No. This guy is human. Has mortgages to pay, has hopes and dreams, ... Their worst nightmare is that all devs start reacting like this.
Secondly, people usually haven't invested a long time in something. Ever. In their lives. They can't even begin to imagine someone doing something like making a independent mmo for a niche market. Oh, sure, they've been whining and pleading and posting for many of these features... But actually, really making a game like that? No. That'd be absurd.

BTW, for Tasos this is real life. It's a real life few years for him. A real life team. A real life dream. And real life bills. Don't post "OMG, U dun understand, cuz ill only be enterin real life in anoter 8 years or so" because we know that and do our very best to understand (with mixed success).

"Not professional!": Who's to say what's professional? Frankly I can't think of any other way to react in a situation like this. Sure, we're not accustomed to a dev acting like this. That's because a whole lot of them took the easy road and avoided independent game developing and its immense responsibilities like the plague. Big publishers and studio's don't bother reacting to bad publicity because theyll just buy a few more good reviews. Their public relations people also have straight-jackets nearby when a dev happens to glance an unfair review and he acts emo to this, possibly even with the plan to speak out about it.

"I don't like the game and the centre of the universe is in my ass": People might have been dissapointed by Darkfall. Can happen. I have no idea how good the game is. People can react in two ways: 1: Act like little retards and start to personally attack Aventurine and its people whenever they can, whereever they can. 2: Write a few level-headed, objective posts about it in appropriate topics.

Why am I doing this? No one ever changes their minds or adjusts their ways on the internet.

This is the biggest joke! Yes it might be real life, but all he is doing is digging himself a deeper hole.  Do you honestly believe anyone will hire him in the future after seeing how he behaves?  His reputation is his life line and he's standing on nothing now.

You don't know what professional is? Really? Honestly? Look at ANY number of entertainment sources out there, they all seem to take severe criticsm in strides. But Tasos, has been so much, he doesn't deserve any more harsh remarks, right?  No, it doesn't work that way. The best ( depending on your side) part about this is, is that he did this online. This wasn't some taped interview where he lost his cool.  All he needed to do was walk away from his desk, cool down and come up with a way to handle it so both parties were at least happier with the situation. He let his temper flare and instead made a fool of himself.

Tasos irrational behaviour is going to be the end of him. If Darkfall ever closes, he's going to have to look for work in a different industry, no one would touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I think you are missing the point though.  This works for people who know how to play the game, who have played for years. That isn't a new player. A new player is a person who enters Eve and just gets lost.  The game has a huge learning curve and unless they have someone helping them along it will take them a while to get to the point where they become useful.  I imagine a truely new player would take longer  to get to 0.0 and haul

I'd like to give it a try

I vote for Sony Online Entertainment

You claim some of them have lost our trust, but then add NCSoft and Funcom and leave out SOE. Double standard much?

Very good policy, I wish it would become the norm for internet overall. And glad that some people will refuse things from EA due to it, only shows the type of people they are who refuse things from EA and it's nothing to do with EA as a company but has everything to do HOW people seem to think they can act towards such company.

How can you support something like this?  What if a family has one account they all use, someone says something, everyone now ends up banned from playing their game because of the actions of one? What if you have a bad day because the poorly made EA game you just spent $50 keeps crashing and you are trying to just play the game you paid for.  You complain and they ban you?

This gives moderators far too much power, you should be able to criticize something without worrying if your account is going to get banned for voicing your opinion. And I'm not talking about flames I'm talking about the posts where people take the time and break down the problems with the game.

Ban someone on a forum all you want,  but to extend that into games is just low.
