Papadam still hasn't realised that there are people on this forum that don't currently play wow or visit the WoW forums much, yet would like to know that WoW and other Blizzard games are now on facebook.

Last monday Blizzard opened an offical World of warcraft facebook account, there's also a Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 each of those have about 12,000 fans.

http://www.facebook.com/Warcraft (there are specific language versions too)

http://www.facebook.com/StarCraft

http://www.facebook.com/Diablo

I hardly ever use facebook (I've never got the whole social networking thing) but I have added all 3 games in the slim chance Blizzard do beta give-aways like other devs have via facebook.

Well I cannot speak for Arenas as i dont play them, but world PvP still takes skills as it does in any game, if your more knowledgeable about your class or the class thats attacking you will probably win.

Any serious arena player has loads of resiliance which more or less removes high crits from the game so it does come down to team work, knowledge, managment, skill and as with all games a little bit of luck.

Things look to be shaken up in cata with blizzard completely redoing the talent tree, gone are the passive +%dmg and +%crit and we get as they say "more usful skills/talents".

Wow is the lowest common denominator, think of like the cheapest car or phone, the 1$ present millions of them out there but quantity doesn't equal quality.

Wow  works on  any base run pc, wow is the game my mum could pick up and play hell my dog could probably figure it out in a couple of days.

There is many much better mmo's out there both past and present, where you actually haveto think and challenge yourself, 11 million subscribers is a falsehood,  my friend went back to wow earlier this year and found everywhere except the end game pretty much empty

Just about nails it.

On the 11 million subscriber count, by the way, if you consider that:

  1. WoW has 142 servers at present, if I count correctly.
  2. Each server supports about 4000 connections.
  3. Most servers are not under high load at any given time; the vast majority are at medium, so let's estimate an average of 2000 connections.
  4. Statistically, in MMOs, players online at any given time constitute ~10% of the total subscriber base.

Then I come to the conclusion that WoW's subscriber base must be approximately 3 million rather than 11.

Yup, 3 million in North America.....

In order for it to have 11 million subscribers, the average number of players online would have to constitute less than 3% of the subscribers, and that just doesn't seem right, does it?

Not that 3 million subscribers isn't still soaring above every other game's numbers.

Bud you must not log in on very strange times because around half the servers are either full or high pop. The other 40% are medium and the last 6 servers are recommended for new players. Also your assuming that all the current subs are playing at the same time. You also forgot to take into account that Western, Euro, and Asian accounts can only be seen if you have the game client for those areas. You are unable to see them otherwise. 142 is are just the NA servers there are also around 15 oceanic and another 7 latino servers

Uhm....that's exactly what I was thinking.  Helloooooo.....not only N.A. is playing, but N.A. is all you're looking at, Saerain.

in addition I am not sure where he counted his server count from becuase WoW around 240 in the US and 220 in europe ( http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php )

Why have a NDA on what is effectivly an open beta.. how is EQ2 ever ment to grow and attract new people if they hide away?

SoE and others need to be much more open on their products, look at Wow (yes I went there) we have stacks on info on the new expansion and its about 6-8 months away, if these games ever want to grow then need to be more confident in their own products get it out there let people see it.

LOL! your all too serious.. loosen up.

So thats the expansion....

Warcraft1 was originally a Warhammer game, all the lore in WC1(not much) was from WH, afaik.

enjoy.

Nothing but  rumor.

Depending on who you speak too the follow is apparently true, even in the absence of common sense and cold hard evidence.

- Blizzard were contracted to make a WH rts game but Gamesorkshop decided to scrap the project so Blizzard rebranded it as Warcraft.

- Blizzard made an unoffical WH rts game and tried to sell it to Gameworkshop who oddly said "no"?

- GW sued blizzard because they used orks and humans and blizzard settled out of court.

- Starcraft was ment to be WH40k rts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww watch after 40 secs to see something amazing and just keep watching.

when the rabot is kicked and when it slips on the ice is just simply amazing.

Ok im trying my best to come off as a troll here but...

  • The expansion is released? Turbin done a wonderful job advertising that to none LOTRO players
  • The video is poor - seen better and I'm goona say it, WoW has better official videos for their content patches
  • Why do you get a crappy ingame video when other mmos gets full 3D rendered videos for their xpacs?
  • While we're talking of content patches why are you guys paying for a content patch?
  • And lastly was that video recorded on min gfx settings? I am sure LOTRO looks better then that if not then LOTRO has not aged well.

Again realy not trying to be a troll or to flame but the above is what went through my head while I watch that video.

US goes live before EU and...

  • Only some US servers have extended maintenance today.
  • PTR is still live.
  • No official 3.3 movie or mini site from blizzard, had one for 3.1 and 3.2 so probably one for 3.3 too.
  • No news on the news sites.

maybe next week folks =D

They are adding cross-server dungeon grouping in 3.3, so even though you said you were a solo player, grouping in those lower level dungeons (especially 45-60) should be more viable now. Hopefully that will encourage more players to actually try to group since (again, hopefully) there will be less time setting them up.

This is what I'm hoping for. If this feature allows everyone to get groups easily (those who want to), I think WoW will be in a much better place. The lower level instances are very difficult to get into and, imo, are some of the most fun. It's a shame that so many people are hitting level 80 without doing those "starter" instances which are, ironically, some of the more difficult instances in the game. It really helps people learn their class and their role in groups.

Im looking forward to some DM, BRd and some Mara

I just hope that heirloom items dont let us just blast through them,

Any one know when ?

possibly this week (today.tomorrow) ... guess we need to wait for the US to wake up and tell us today.

I prefer NVidia over ATI so im sticking with Nvidia but they do have a very odd and misleading naming policy on their cards and they know it as well, all these GTX, GTS,GT... 8800gtx slower than a 280gtx? makes no sence naming wise.  I do research before purchasing but others wont and will get shafted.

Cool, thanks for the link. All that trouble to make a video.. hats off.

Were talkin WOW here. The game will run on a toaster. Question:Why would you want to waste a fine PC like that on WOW anyways. I ran WOW on a 3800+AMD single core w/9500GT card 1680x1050 widescreen with all settings maxed out. Ran perfectly fine!

You could run vanillia WoW on that setup with all maxed, but not Wotlk, texture res, poly counts, draw distance, partical effects and ground cluter density have all been massivly increased.  Throw in the realtime shadows added in wrath and you be hard preessed to be running @30fps all maxed out in world and less than 10fps in Dalaran.

On my current system AMD 5200 x2, 4gig ram and 8800GTS @ 1400x900x60 (what I would consider a medium spec games system), I acheive about 40-50FPS out in the world about 15fps in dalaran (all settings maxed, x4AA x16filtering - shadows on 25%),, what realy suprised me is a 25man Onixya run drops my FPS to around 20, i have set all sliders to 50% to get a playable 40-50FPS.  Back in vanillia Wow never had an issue on a 40man onxyia and that was an older system somthing like a 3200AMD and a 9600 card.. shows how much more grunt you need to max out WoW now-a-days.

Boats in Darkfall are no sort of innovation.

Also, all that'll happen is a hacker'll steal one and fly away.

Do you want to know what IS innovation? Destroying the entire old world content and rebuilding it anew. Show me a game that's had that done before. =)

Ummm, they aren't redoing the old content to be innovative; they are doing it because nobody plays it anymore. In order to bring flight to Azeroth they would have to rebuild 90% of it anyway as it has no content above a certain elevation, so the EASY way to fix that is to just rebuild it entirely with the new models.

Blizzard has a 5 year old game that has half its content (level 1 to 60) being ignored by almost everyone in their game. They tried to make it less noticeable by increasing XP gained and lowering level restrictions on mounts to get people through it faster. But that still left them with the same issues, just less problematic. The level 1 to 60 content NEEDS to be rebuilt to allow flight and to bring the OLD game up to the where the game is now.

The only innovative thing they have done is decide to charge the players another $50 by making the rebuild an Expansion instead of giving it to them for free like they should. The funny part is, the players (like you), are going to stand up and scream THANK YOU for charging me more money to fix your old worthless content. (YES SIR, THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER SIR!)

The changes to azeroth 1-60 will be seen by ALL players (with and without the expansion),so no one needs to buy the xpac to see and play in the new 1-60 Azeroth.  whats you got to say about that?

Aye sounds like a nice idea, also you could de-level an old lvl 80 to match that of a friend who has maybe come back to wow and only has a lvl 60.   Might lead to issues with gear, could you keep the lvl 80 gear in the bank? would the gear stats change based on the level you go down to?

LOTRO had a great deal going for multi month subs as well. Subscribe for three months or more and get the Mirkwood xpac free. Another game that is superior to WOW.

Mirkwood an expansion? dont make me laugh.

You dont like WoW... thats fine, you've made your point, the door is that way and pick up a cookie on your way out to join the flock of wow haters.
