I was invited to Beta and have a computer that is almost three years old. I downloaded the client which took forever and once it was loaded, the updates took equally forever. I thought this may have just been the one time pain that you have to sometimes experience to get to the good times ahead..... nope with every patch the program would anaylze the program in its entirety and then download the updates, a process that literally took hours and I'm on a cable internet connection. Now as I said before my system is almost three years old, the game is virtually unplayable on my system and as my frustration mounted with this fact I could really have cared less about the quality of the imagery. I had all of the settings not only for the video but all other areas as well turned down to the lowest settings in an effort to free up my system and make the game playable, it had little to no affect to speed up the fps.

Developers need to incorporate the fact that their subscribers aren't going to purchase a new cutting edge system every two years to keep up with the improvements in the capabilities of the software thats out there. For me to become a dedicated VSoH player Brad is going to have to dumb down the system requirements of the game and acknowledge that just because you can create a game that pushes the envelope of present day computer technology doesn't mean that everyone can afford to keep up.

Until you eliminate player to player trading and require the players to use an auction house to buy or sell items and of course price fixing of those items this will be an issue. Until that happens get used to it because its here to stay, this is just another example of government trying to find a means of getting tax dollars to squander on their own pay raises and persoanl benefits.

Heres an opinion, uninstall the game and wait for a good space based game to come along. Not what these fanbois will tell you.

Proving to yourself at least that you think the world revolves around you? Pathetic.

P.S. Buy a new clock and actually plug it in this time.

MMORPG had little enough credibility to begin with and now they've simply proved once again that they cater to whomever sends them advertising dollars. Well done MMORPG you've let who knows how many duplicate accounts vote in your "Readers" choice awards and given liscense to a completely worthless game to make a false boast for another year.

I find it simply amazing that someone can ask a simple question and the rtards that inhabit this site turn it into a flame fest. Answer his question and leave it at that, this type of concept has been tried and used before for the initial character development phase of an online game. As to the initial question for me its both yes and no, there are times I would like to see an off line version of the MMO's I play for a variety of reasons but having that kind of ability simply breeds abuse and exploitation.

I have no problem with the game being PvE centric I play these games to be part of an online community just as I'm part of my RL community. I don't walk up to my co-worker regardless of how big an ass he is and ask to duel him.... hmmm on second thought maybe dueling isn't such a bad idea after all, might make room for a promotion. In any event I'm sure if on release day there isn't some kind of PvP there will be soon enough, subscription dollars tend to influence a lot these days.

I've found this one to be fairly amusing.

I regretfully like Eve, though I don't really play it anymore, the game has become to rife with ganking/griefing/scammers/liars/asshats etc... choose your own description. I love the ideas presented and the viable avatar has been something the community has been asking for quite a while. I don't agree with the segment that wants to use them for FPS action.

The one thing that would bring me back full time, would be to create a separate server to allow those of us that just want to enjoy the game without the afore mentioned baboons. If PvP is your thing then have at it but don't expect everyone else to share your view. I will eventually allow my "subscriptions" to lapse since the game lost the fun factor long ago and I am merely hanging on for old time sake.

To the OP, I raise the BS flag and say that griefing/ganking is not necessary in a game to be successful. We have enough of it in RL, when I play a game I choose to be entertained and not be someone elses source of entertainment. Games that don't cater to my style of play simply don't get my subscription fees.

I don't care if fifty threads are created about his topic so long as it lets MMORPG know that people are aware that their rating system is completely over inflated by a couple of games that keep trading places for the number one and number two spot. The only reason I see that has any significance is that the gaming companies in question like to reference this site in advertising for their game, and if the rating system doesn't have credibility then that advertising is false and misleading.

Neither of your choices appeals to me, both provide for exploitation by griefing elements that are rampant in games today.

Any company that pushes back a release instead of pushing forward with an unfinished product is doing that games community a service. Releasing a product that for all intents and purposes is still in a Beta form will do more harm than good. I wish all gaming companies would follow suit on those lines.

You're 17 you should be thinking about spending your money on other things, go embrace life. What you should be reading between the lines is that to make a go of it you have to treat it like a "job", a game shouldn't feel like that it should be fun with out requiring a vast investment of time to do so. Eve is huge time sink, sure training is real time based but every other feature consumes a great deal of time, gathering materials, waiting for ships to come along to ambush, NPC hunting, travel etc...

I play it because I like space based games, I'm just waiting for the next one to come along. Until then Eve will do, marginally but it will do.

I certainly do, I came over to Eve when EA foolishly pulled the plug on that great game and would leave Eve to go back in a heart beat if it were ever to be reintroduced. I only hope gametap chooses it as a title to sponser on its service.

"Why PvPers Need Carebears" OP, I really get tired of this title being applied as some type of stigma to be ashamed of I'm a Carebear and quiet happy to say so. This however doesn't mean that I don't PvP when the situation is appropriate meaning both parties are in the appropriate level range. A player that purposely goes to and area frequented by players so inferior to them in reagrd to level to the point that they have no risk to themselves is purely an asshat and needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. There is no justification in such activity, opposition groups that band together and have a much lower level party member with them to give that member undeserved credit for vanquishing players needs to be addressed by developers as well.

The notion that players will police this type of activity themselves is rediculous since we all have our own adgenda's we are working toward. Why would I take time out of my gaming experience to run to the aid of players who are being victimised when the only reward for doing so is the occaisional insincere thank you if I'm lucky? I think the idea of being able to loot the vanquished player is as just plain wrong, they played hard for what they have as have I and I don't see the validity of taking it from them, if a game subscribes to that sort of thing I simply don't play it.

I would like to see harsher penalties for the gank oriented PKer since a lot of fixes may be out of reach software wise for this type of activity, the idea of guards of all factions being toggled to attack them would be a start. Negative ranking for each PK below a set level to the degree it has an impact, in regard to the composition of a party if one player is above a certain threshold then no one in the party gets credit for a kill and for those it applies to the negative ranking be applied etc... There are numerous ideas to put the PKer/ganker back in his bottle, I'd just like to see some come into play.
