This is not good news and I'll be sorry to see it go, I have an inactive account there and stopped playing when my computer couldn't handle the game any longer. I switched to a laptop and was looking forward to getting a desktop system that could handle the Ryzom and reactivating my account, but I guess that won't be happening now.

I would hope that someone will pick this game up and keep it going, the community deserves that at least. Companies need to realise that a commitment exisits both ways, they should make the game playable by allowing indivduals to host a local lan community or something. I wish EA had done that with Earth and Beyond, I'd still be playing it if they had. I any event sorry the hear this news.

Too bad CCP can't keep them off the Tranquility Server.

I don't see what is wrong with buying/selling characters really. What is wrong with that guy buying a character for that much? Is it simply because Blizzard don't get a chunk of how much it sells for? Or is it because of a loss of money lost because a person forgoes having to do the silly time-intensive treadmill?

Maybe because that person does not own that toon, and it belongs to Blizzard? How would you like it if you loan a friend some games, and he decides to sell them and keeps all the money? The guy who bought the toon is a moron, and if he had any intelligence, he would go after the seller, since the seller had no right to sell the toon.

Okay tell me how he bought the Toon? Can he walk away with it and go play some other game? Can he put it on a shelf and admire the fact that he has purchased? No he can't, its still in the Blizzard data base and thats right where its going to stay. That is assuming it even happened in the first place. No intelectual property has been sold since it can't be removed and exploited for the code used to create it. This is a rediculous argument since no "Thieft" has occurred, the only thing that has happened is that the account login information has changed hands. Blizzard still holds all the cards, sure you can toss in the EULA/TOS but its pretty much worthless since its simply a gentlemens agreement between the player and gaming company. Believe me no gaming company wants this to get into a court since the precidents are all in the favor of the gamer and not the gaming company.

The fact that the character hasn't logged in doesn't prove a thing, character names get changed all the time and its even easier if you change servers. You just create a character on the new server prior to moving the character in question and you're prompted to change the name when you first login. If I can figure that out the anyone can. For me its all still folklore though, makes a good story though just like Sasquatch or the Lochness Monster.

This is Folklore until I see some proof, the old screen shot or it didn't happen thing. The thought that a guy would buy an account for 10k is rediculous if he didn't think it would get banned, and if thats the case I would expect this was done for some other motive. Perhaps to actually force the issue into the legal system to get the answer about intellectual property or time arguement out into the open and get a decision on it. For me until something like that happens this is just another grandious story with lots of fiction and little fact.

First I want to say that I don't advocate the buying and selling of accounts or items within online games. That being said, if a person has the money to spend who are we to say how they should or shouldn't spend it, personally I'd love to have $9700 laying around that I could just waste it on something like this. I have freinds that spend more than this on their hobbies which bring in nothing in return other than the enjoyment they get from participating.

For some video gaming is just such a hobby, spending thousands on electronic equipment to get the most cutting edge computer possible to have that boost in performance. Most of us know that the risks involved in making a purchase like this don't equate and I'm sure this individual is looking for another account as we speak that isn't as flashy that he can get away with it this time. I still don't think its a smart move but I actually have to balance my checkbook each month.

The point is that with the BC expansion you can't get groups for the previous 1-60 content since everyone is in the Outlands Purpling up their 70's. This isn't trolling its in the Wishing Well section of this forum as a suggestion, to intimate trolling is ridiculous. The idea here is to foster discussion not point fingers at people and make accusations. This idea has merit since with each subsequent expansion the previous areas will become more and more devoid of players seeking to level up their characters, guilds are almost universally becoming Raid oriented and pugging to full groups is impossible in Azeroth for the 1-60 instances.

We are all posters on these forums, everyone has an opinion if you don't agree with someones suggestion thats fine but don't start trying to create an argument just because you don't like what someone had for an idea.

Since there is a Heroic setting for instances now, there should be a setting to lower the difficulty of instances. Maybe you just can't get a 5-man together and all you can get is you and another player to get together whether its WC or Blackwing Lair. These areas still have things to offer people that don't have 70's and want to go do them, the instances can be rigged that if you meet a certain capability level then it could toggle to a higher difficulty to prevent excessive farming.

I believe Blizzard is going to increase the awarded exp by 30%, for mobs for characters in the 1-60 range. I can't remember where I saw this but thats what I remember anyway.

Interesting idea, but why would they cut the gravy train? They're collecting millions in subscriptions from people that will continue to play WoW as long as there is a functioning server to play on at the current rate, to offer a "LifeTime" subscription would be self defeating for Blizzard.

Or perhaps you should just wait for AoC to be released and go play that game.

You know its plain that the PvP crowd just doesn't get it, the PvE player doesn't care about what drives the PvP economy they just want to play the game. Thats pretty much the crux of the issue, they don't won't care that about this motivations that drive the PvP game. The problem is that you don't see it, not that it wouldn't work because the style works on any game out there to include Eve. The key is to not conitue to throw bigger and better stuff without making the NPC just as bigger and badder.

CCP keeps handing out bigger and better stuff so that players can kill other players which is what drives the PvP economy. The PvE player could care less about that side of it, so long as the NPC's were made challenging then there would be losses not to the extent in the PvP game but they would exist, and thus a much more realistic economy would be driven.

Like a great many here I'll more than likely give WAR a try and see what it looks like but unless there is something that just reaches right and grabs me about the game I don't see any reason to make a permanent switch. I have a couple of 70's and a couple 60+ characters as well and I don't feel the need to grind up to that status on another game. WAR is going to have to offer something that people just can't do without to get them to switch and so far WAR hasn't demonstrated that to me yet.

When a massive Asteroid strikes earth in 2008 all life on the planet is destroyed, thus will WoW finally die..... Fade to a small cubicle in Reykjavik Iceland where a laptop computer has survived the global catastrophe, the computer is is still online to a WoW server and the screen shows a bot still farming the mobs in Swamp of Sorrows. BUHAHAHAHAH WoW will never die

Okay bad humor, of course the game will eventually be shutdown, but not by anything currently in development, and I'm quite sure it will probably be another Blizzard product that all the "WoW" haters will then focus on.

For me at least its readily apparent why you don't want CCP to offer a PVE server where players can go and simply enjoy what Eve has to offer without having to constantly look over the shoulder. You'd loose all your would be victims, you know the guys that cross the boundary of relatively safe zones for zones less so just to try and get ahead only to find the sociopaths waiting to shove the dagger into their backs. CCP has demonstarted that they are more than willing to open Eve up to other markets, is it really so far fetched that they give the PvE style player an equal shot at playing their game.

Like guy said on the Eve video thread, its okay not to get that the PvE player would find that kind of server a good thing. The PvP player would still have Tranquility to play on with all the intrigue and suspense they crave.

How many times are you going to start a thread like this and simply insert a different style of game and ask the same question? Take a look at the games list and see whats in development and then head over to that games site and see what kind of progress is being made and their projected time line for beta or commercial release. As for whats already out there same answer, check the list do an independant search using the various search engines available and see what comes up.

For me the most promising game looks like Infinity though it has an uncertain time line for beta or release. Currently the number of acceptable Sci-Fi games out there is nil, of course thats just my opinion. I played Eve and it just doesn't cut it for me, too many ways for your fellow gamers to stab you in the back.

I get such a kick out of these threads, heres a thought. When one day in the future the internet goes away for some new technological leap replacing it, WoW will still be up and running and will already have implemented a patch to be ready for the change so as to not interupt their subscribers enjoyment of the game.

I guess people think that they gain credibility by knocking WoW, I see these guys everyday on the street wearing signs that say the sky is falling....

Sure one day it will go away, but since there is so much money to be made in the industry do you really think there won't be something else offerred by Blizzard?

I think the point here is that the guy got a ban of any type, this kind of stuff has happened in the past and no similar action was taken by CCP against the offender. Sure the amount in question may have been considerably larger but go back a year or two and the impact on a corporation/alliance for a smaller amount would have the same effect. A corporation I belonged to had all of its Highly researched Battleship BPO's stolen by a character named Xaar who was a director. He returned half of the BPO's but kept the rest giving some BS reason. The point I'd like to make is that if this type of activity were to take place out in the real world this guy would be behind bars getting friendly with his new room mates. In Eve however he just thumbs his nose at his former buddies and slaps himself on the back.

Cosy is inferring that BoD is once again getting favorable treatment by this offender having received a Ban during the investigation, which could be the case though CCP did reinstate the account after it determined that its perfectly within the rules. The problem is that in Eve there aren't any rules or I should say legal repercussions for unlawful activity. Eve is a haven for any kind of nefarious behavior because there is aren't consequences to being a thief, pirate, griefer asshat choose your own descriptive term, that can't be easily avoided. CCP wants the players to be the police but thats not possible because a player is a private citizen without the resources to do the job. How far do you think law enforcement would go in your own town if the Judge, Prosecutor, Police Officer etc.. had to provide 100% of their of equipment and replace it themselves each time it got damaged or destroyed... not very far I'd bet.

Sorry for the rant,  but in my opinion this guy shouldn't have received any sort of ban at all and placing one this time did have the side effect of appearing once again to favor BoD even if for a short period of time.

Well good review but I'm trying to figure out what you're getting at, on one hand your blasting CCP on topics that have been done previously and on the other you provide a decent observation of the game from you perspective.

No it really isn't a flame its my opinion about the OP's question, is this the latest tactic by Eve fans? To call everyone that doesn't share their view a flamer or troll? There are a couple of games in development, granted with rather uncertain time lines but none the less they are out there that I feel he should wait for. Infinity, Star Trek Online and Tabula Rasa just to name a few, where he could start at commercial release and not be at a perpetual deficit to anyone that started the game previous to him.

Any worthwhile 0.0 Corp or Alliance will not bring him on board and regardless of the mantra of specialization he won't be operating on an even footing against characters that have been playing for years. I stand by my initial statement that he should wait for another game to come along, it will be a waste of his time and subscription fees.
