No, the problem is people who do not know how to install drivers. They do not uninstall previous drivers correctly, thus the issues. I have had ATI for awhile now and never have I had an issue with drivers on my 4850 machine or my dual 4870 machine.

Your advice is bad, saying to get a 9800GTX+ which draws more power, has heat issues and has less tech then a GTX 260 or 280, both of which I would of recomended over a 9800GTX+ for nvidia.

ATI makes a superb graphics card in their 4000 series. The 4850 is capable of playing crysis at max settings at 1680x1050 on a 23 inch LCD in XP with no lag and in Vista all settings maxed except particles effects, around 30 FPS.

A 9800GTX+ seems to be the worst choice for choosing nvidia atm, if you did not recomend a 260 or 280 then sobeit, but I do know those choices I recomended are better then your 9800GTX+.

Wow I don't know what to say other then your nuts. I never found corpse retrieval fun. Why would anyone want that in an MMORPG today? That took lots of time and help from others just so you could play again and get your gear back. The system was fine back in the early stages of this MMORPG classic and things have changed.

I for one am glad there is no more corpse retrievals and now when you die you simply go to a summoner give them the proper summon reagent you buy and they will summon your corpse. You just got to get a res from someone then or your heal merc if you got one.

Also you don't lose any gear anymore from death! All your gear stays with you. When I first came back and died around level 30 something and had all my gear I thought it was a bug till I learned they took that out of the game.

Your nuts for wanting corpse retrieval in EQ, especially with how players are not hardcore like old classic EQ.

Guys what have we been missing? Everquest! I totally got in the mood one night back early December last month and decided to play Eq again. After prolonged emails from SOE newsletters and reading the changes I got interested again and wanted to see my old stomping grounds.

Boy have things changed! Firstly I didn't have my old account back so I bought Seeds of Destruction expansion after installing the free trial. Just clicked buy SOD expansion on the server select. Once you buy you will get all 15 expansions in one and all previous expansion in game claimables. Unique mounts and fun fluff items as well as faction modifier items.

Anyway after purchasing and downloading 4hrs worth of data I loged in. Now I was familar again with EQ and the controls and all that from playing the trial. The trial was lacking big time but it enabled me to get use to it again.

Starting all over again.

What I found starting out new again. That feeling of adventure like the good old days. The game has changed for the better over the last several years since I last played. I was a raider before, and in the old EQ world pre 2003 took lots of people and effort just to get gear with minor stats on them. Lets just say back then a 22 ac 10str 10agi 10stam 50hp chest piece was an awesome piece of armor to have. Sure it took a raid of 40 or more peeps to obtain but it felt good getting it. But now, hahaha NOW, a piece of gear at level 10 or 15 has triple those stats. That gear is called defiant gear, world drop off any mob randomly. We will get into that a bit later.

Great graphics updates. Added Guild Halls and Central Hub.

The graphics rock now with everything maxed the game looks gorgeous. They really improved the visuals of the game and I am loving the new water and details. Armors can be dyed, people look great in the fancy gear.

The world is not laggy at all. There is one central hub that everyone meets at and for performing all your needed activities such as crafting. They turned Plane of Knowledge into a great central area to port around to anywhere. And the guild hall gives you more options for ports using stones off a vendor.  You must be in a guild to use the guild hall. The guild lobby however is where anyone can go. Most people get buffs here and chill till raids or LFG.

So I started at level 1 and am now level 64 in only a months time! I have over 60 thousand plat saved up now and all my newest gear and spells. There is soooo much to do and doing it is even easier. Explained below.

Mercenaries.............SOE DID SOMETHING RIGHT!

Ok so they decided to place in mercenaries last expansion. You are able to hire one these bad boys or girls to be a healer or a damage tank class. You can purchase any race you want and as you level the merc will level with you gaining all abilities and spells. The mercs themselves are always geared and act like a raiding geared player per level range. So if you hit 60 your merc will be at 60 have effective raid gear and all spells. You can't see what they have but SOE says they are geared that way to be in line with players.

You can hire only one type, a healer or a tank (damage). When you hire you can suspend the merc if your not using it at the time because they have a upkeep cost which increases in price as you level. The cost is every 15min. Healer mercs will heal you and buff you are 100% efficient at what they do. There is 2 types of mercs, you can learn more of this when you play.

All you need is a merc and you will level quickly using hot zones for added experience and loot drops for the defiant armor.

Defiant Armor

This armor drops anywhere off anything. There is different tiers that correspond to the level and will gain in power as you get closer to the received level of the gear. The stats are phenomenal compared to old EQ gear. Yes I think this is the sole reason why EQ is so enjoyable now because the gear alone helps you level and have more fun. The mercs help to, probably a lot more then I give credit for.

Thats just some of the stuff I think is worth coming back for. EQ is so enjoyable now and you can solo or find a guild easily. People are always helping others. I can make a start to finish guide for anyone interested in starting new or coming back. Let me know.

PS: The server I play on is called Bristlebane, I looked for one the higher pop servers. Just because its 3rd on the server list from the top I think is why so many pick it. *shrug*

I always find it hilarious when people who say they got DOA stuff 2 or more times blame the retailer for their problems. Most often its the end user for breaking the item or unknowingly short out hardware from little to no experience.

I say it is almost impossible to get 2 DOA items, let alone 3 because motherboards in this case are not OEM! They come in the manufacturer packaging and are tested 100% working when they leave the factory. When the end user gets it and they somehow unknowingly blow it out or haven't installed it correctly to work they blame the product as DOA and the retailer.

HDD drives you buy from retail that are OEM are 100% perfectly fine. They are not packaged with all the paper,t hat is all. Your HDD is shipped in 1 wrapped bubble because thats all is required for the product to be safe inside a popcorn filled box. The HDD is the most robust item you can get shipped. It not only can withstand an average impact of 200 Geforces but also is almost indestructable when wrapped with bubble. You can drop one from the 5th floor and as long as metal doesn't dent your HDD will still work.

Things are done certain ways not because you think they are lacking but because thats all that is required.

BTW retailers package your products not the carrier.

Annoying thing is they placed a banner on all the stations that we are losing with an arrogant line of text. It's aweful that they did this today and to tell people about it right before it happens. I have been paying the bill every month and never was told of this. All of a sudden they tell 14million customers sorry but we are taking some of your service away.

Pretty dumb business decision. Bet they lose half or more of those customers to Verizon or Satilite.

You want better infrastructure here in the good old USA then you make our people work for cheap. The problem is Americans are naturally lazy due to culture, advertising and other things. Other countries are ahead because they have cheap labor and have good sound cultural fundamentals. I do not think America will ever lead into the future.

No that is an estimated performance index measurement from both cores running. The estimated is slightly higher because you have defaulted in bios an option that auto overclocks your CPU when it needs it. The small test concluded the estimated indexing performance. Your CPU is not operating at 6Ghz, if it was you would be the world record holder for an X2 without phase cooling, which is impossible.

Your onboard video card is incapable of running crysis or any newer shader 3.0 game or for that matter older decent graphic games decently. It says 1.3GB memory because nvidias onboard video options all come with something called turbo cache which uses your own onboard memory for GPU resources, which is very slow using your own memory to do textures.

I run a 4870x2 on crysis maxed all options including 8x AA on 1680x1050 in Vista 64 and I get mid 40's FPS.

Have you overclocked this system in the past? Older socket A chips would occasionally fail after time due to the memory controller having some faulty algorithms causing many to not default to full clock.  Barton cores, which is what you have, from what I remembered would occasionally fail from 2 main issues, heat and overclocks. The heat was breaking these bad boys. They had some the best overclocking of any chips at the time. Go Barton..........Old School memories, ahhhh.

That CPU will never clock default again if it is damaged. At least you can boot it. It is fun to play with old PC's and to get them up and running. Then go on your newer PC and think how did you ever get anything done with those old PC's.

LMAO LG, your seriously telling me you prefer an LG panel display over Samsung. You either have no idea about LG panels and the failures or you just didn't bother reading panel reviews over the last 6 years. Philips displays suck horribly, not only do they have washed out colors and terrible blacks but they have more recalls and defects of any other LCD monitor company.

LG has the worst displays, they get your so called higher contrast ratio by cheating. They use there own measurement system to purposely inflat that contrast rating.

Your contrast ratings are ANSI Static and DC and LG uses it's own! I seen to many articles and complaints on various display forums about LG and these issues with poor performance.

I do my research when I buy a new LCD and mostly always am reading up to date tech on everything including LCD panels and displays.

As soon as you said  out of the blue the game will lock up and sometimes the sound is stuck on looping, I knew what was wrong.

It is your video card overheating. When a game locks up like that and you hear the sound still playing or looping it is because of a overheating issue with the GPU or a memory error on the GPU. High overclocks can cause it and so can heat issues. Most of the time it is from heat though.

I suggest you run a GPU benchmark to test the cards memory and GPU for a few hours before you do anything further.

Use rivatuner to underclock the GPU and memory slightly by 20MHz to start, this should solve the issue if you can't get a new cooler on it or find a better cooling configuration.

Absolutely, try this one. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx  I have it. Best LCD I ever owned. It has the best colors, contrast and response time for a 22 that I ever seen. Not to mention the near professional calibration software that comes with it.

Out of the box it is gorgeous, the controlls need some memorization to get used to or otherwise they are awkwardly placed.

I was following this thread and just because it cracks me up that people treat food like they do. As to Dekron's comments I find it somewhat arrogant on his comments to. I agree with you, people shouldn't think they know a culture 100% just because they visited there.
