Well, how many 14 yr old girls are gaming in North America?  It seems the game only appeals to said demographic, with all of it's fey male and schoolgirl female avatars and animations and sound, and its pretty glowy soft graphics.  Ugh.

we all know you prefer big strong men isnt that right? you like to feel their muscles.

Aion vs Diablo III

OP what do you prefer, shoes or apples?

Its a box, jesus.

You guys obviously dont like RPG's then because the best ones are click to move. But all i hear is meat heads saying "dumb asian design"

My pc is more powerful than a ps3 and an xbox...so it doesnt matter to me.

mmo's, rpgs, fps's and rts games are best played on a pc.

He thinks it's a wow clone because wow was the first mmo he played, and thinks every mmo copied wow's formula since, either that or he's an idiot.

The combat is remarkably similar to WoW's  (replace rage/energy requirements with skill chains and longer cooldowns) and the mirrored classes (for the most part, except for maybe gladiator, templar and chanter) will definitely remind you of it's looming influence on the genre.

It's not quite far to call it an Asian grinder, however, since it does have just enough content to keep you lvling up to half way through the game. While many might praise it's lore, it's in no way as fleshed out as WoW's: I remember pre-ordering WoW and getting a novel with my purchase (not that I read it, because it was still on a 5th grade leve l); the fact that it "borrowed" (stole) from Warhammer really facilitated the whole deal.

If you had taken vanilla WoW, made it smaller, taken away some of the quests, added an INCENTIVE to world PvP (I think this is a huge lure to the Aion fan base), added flying and flying combat, taken away meaningful class customization (the stigma system is really a joke, since of the 10 or so skills you can choose only a couple are really optimal), fleshed out crafting, made the soundtrack and graphics awesome, added a hefty grind to the last 10 lvls (and I mean HEFTY) and added an Asian theme, then you would nearly have Aion.

So, imho, it's a bit of a stretch to call Aion a WoW-clone, or a clone of anything really. WoW started as a game with POTENTIAL to have meaningful World PvP, but ended up in an instance fest. I personally like both, but I do prefer the arena system, since in World PvP it most often boils down to sheer numbers and not reasoning. The number of threads on the beta forum of Asmodians complaining about Elyos stymieing lower level progression is merely a harbinger of what is to come...

All i read in this post was, wow wow wow wow wow.

Another fps, *yawn*

I find it hard to believe that there will be no hero class.

quick lesson for you then, use the tab key to select your target.

i wonder will there be an mmo in 2012 that is based soley on microtransactions, you buy level one, but level 2 etc.

thats the future i foreseen, and anyone playing wow in 2012 is just a braindead guinea pig.

EA have no creativity at all, they just buy up other companies..EA is a like black hole in the centre of the gaming galaxy, sucking the life out of everything.

well this game is going to be hyped through the roof, so you can only expect to be disappointed. This game will fail to deliver.

This happened many years ago in a little game called EverQuest.   I was playing on the PvP server Rallos Zek as a Dark Elf Necromancer.   In that server, you were not allowed to attack anyone outside of a 4 level radius of you.   So anyways,  I saw another player who I had a small rivalry with.  He was "kill on sight" for me, but unfortunatly he was out of my level range.

We were in a small outpost called Highpass, which had a bank with a basement that spawned these knolls.   I saw the guy just sitting there at the bank level and got an idea.  I went to the basement and pulled a bunch of knolls to the player.  I used the skill "feign death" which causes you to pretend to die.   The knolls switched target to the sitting player and killed him.  He must have been away from keyboard.

I was about to get up but I saw that after the player died, he immiediatly respawned in the exact same spot.  Needless to say, the gnolls killed him again.  I watched this process repeat for about 40 minutes...  with the gnolls killing him about 70 times.

Because it was technically a "PvE death", each death caused EXP loss.  When he came back, he sent me a nasty tell saying how he had lost over 10 levels and how he was going to report me and quit the game.

That was my first ever Perma death PK in a PvPvE experience.

Sounds like you're a bitter little asshole to me.

End game content?

I don't agree. A game should always be judged on its content. A solely PvP experience is not very much. Reading your post suggests to me that perhaps you think the PvE story quite week. I think it might be too, and in the end it is what defines the game world you enter. An end-game PvP grind won't keep many for long, a few weeks and you'll have seen most of what actually is there in Aion I think.

So what your saying is Aion needs wow type content, like raiding, that you repeat over and over again until your eyes bleed.

Now I can see, firsthand, whether or not the hype is warrented. Thanks MMORPG.com

please play more than 10 levels before you give your review.

wow you are very bitter, usually people like you are the ones who are wrong.

People can say that by level 10, you have not experienced enough of the game to make a judgment call and its not fair because the game gets better or really begins at level 20 or 25 or whatever.

The problem is, it doesn't matter because ultimately if you don't like the game by level 10 or 15 or whatever and not finding it fun, you won't stay around until it gets good. If may not be fair and it may not be "right", but that is how marketing works.

If I have read the first few chapters of the book, I won't read the whole thing even if the end is promised to be good. I will walk out of a movie if I hate the first 30 minutes or so, I could care less about the end.

As much as people don't want to admit it, the first 10 levels is enough to judge any game for yourself. Period. Every game I have played and stayed with any lengthy time, I loved from the moment I logged in. I loved 1-20 in AOC, loved the early levels or WAR, enjoyed leveling 1-10 in WOW and loved EVERY level of DAOC.

So its bull about the first 10 levels not counting or mattering. That is where you hook players. If the player isn't hooked immediately, they are not going to stay for 10 more levels much less 40 more. Its the truth. Now granted, Aion either appeals to players in the first 10 levels or it repulses them. And going by the number of posts both ways, Aion is for a lot of players and not for a lot of players.

I made my decision not to play by level 12 or so and I am not going to play. I hated the first 12 levels the first time and there was no way I was going to do it again and again (considering it would be the same thing for every alt). I was not having fun, found the game boring and honestly, I could care less what happens at level 20 or 25. Aion failed to hook me and make me want to play....and obviously others feel the same way.

If you hate the first 30 minutes of a movie you will walk out? that tells me everything i need to know about you and your opinions.

I bought a pre-order and have tried to play this game but I just can't manage to play for more than an hour or two.  Admittingly, I've only made it to level 10, but I have doubts as to if the game dramatically changes after that.

Graphics in-game are very dissapointing compared with how the game appears in screenshots, gameplay seems worse than WoW- just with really flashy animations, and the entire first 10 levels was spent grinding little bug-like creatures in small and walled-off areas.

I could see this game as a free-to-play and I might try it if it was, but I could not see forking over more than the 5 dollars I already wasted on it.

So... I really don't get the appeal.  I understand there hasn't been a major MMORPG release recently, but are people really that desperate that they want to play "this"?

well level 1-10 in wow is pretty shitty also.

Anyway, the reason I like persistent player housing is because, when I've played games that included such housing systems (Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies), I really enjoyed them. What's not to understand about that?

Let's ignore mark's post, here.

I was really looking for why you and other seem like it... cause I just don't get it at all.
They seem like a waste of time, both on our end and time spent programing them into a game.
I just can't see them serving any purpose, other then to show off... that seems pointless to me.

FFXI does something with your mog house, I didn't like with the bonus the items give you... that was just annoying.
Basically it forcing me to buy these items and take to time to place them when I could of been doing something else more important.

Non instanced player housing builds a community. People come together and interact, instead of nowadays where mmo's are about the next level and piece of loot.
