Lotro has dropped the ball. RoI and why I quit. Lotro retired Vetren.
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 11/18/11 3:05:48 AM
Lotro lost me long ago. The whole Runekeeper and goat riding thing ruined the lore for me. Then a year in the dark of moria depressed the hell out of me. Then not moving on to Rohan and instead doing 1 months content in Mirkwood killed it off for me. Such great promise, run by idiots! |

Lord of the Rings Online: Rise of Isengard Screens Show Off Combat
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/15/11 3:11:18 AM
I have everything but a runekeeper (lets not go down that road) and played since launch. I have to say I agree with elocke, the combat is getting very dated. And although I risk an argument i'd also have to say that the game is getting very dated also. By the time the latest set of MMOs come out, LOTRO is going to get harder and harder to return to. The game should have gone Launch - Moria - Rohan - Gondor - Mordor. At the moment it's going sooo slow by the time the game gets to Mordor it will be so dated that there will be no point in logging in, just to go do a deed to kill 1000 orcs in Mordor zone 1, 2, 3, .... zzzzz |

Without getting into full blown game mechanics on an open forums, i'd be happy to assist in any team concidering this as a game development. I have a background in game design and may have some professional conflict of interest that I would have to check first. However if someone is interested in taking this forward. Drop me a line. T. |

Yes please. I can't stand all this stupid magic. And for all those who can't seem to get past the 'Hit Point' thing. Please move away from that legacy PnP statistic. It never even made much sense back then. Oh my 100 hp Fighter just fell 200ft and took 95hp damage. But he's fine, he'll run off with 5hp left and look for a Cleric to heal him - what rubbish. For anyone who has done any real fighting there is no such thing as HP. There is shock, trauma and fatigue. (Morale can be a factor but can have very unpredictable results and is best left to be the morale of the person playing the game, than an in game factor). Shock is numbing. It weakens you and makes it hard to continue fighting, mentally and physically. Recovery from shock can be slow or fast, training and discipline really help here. Trauma is real damage that isn't going away in a hurry. It doesn't make you want to fight any less, it's just you may not be able to. Recovery is very slow but can be speeded up via medical treatment. Fatigue. Is a killer. Not only do you get weaker as you get tired but mentally you can completely give up and rather accept death than continue fighting. Recovery from fatigue is fast. |

I came back last week. Two of my freinds have come back since. The game still has the best combat (ship) around and it makes a fantastic change from wizards and wombats. |

Lord of the Rings Online: A Season of Change

I can't help but notice how some people fanatically defend LOTRO and call anyone else who points out that the game needs major content, trolling. I played LOTRO from launch and love the game. However I havn't played since about 2 months after Mirkwood. Why? Because the total lack of new content. |

The thing that made GW unique was that it was different than all the other Mmos. The NPC's and instanced quests were like little puzzles to solve etc. Sadly the more news I read on GW2 the less impressed I am. It sounds so much like every other MMO out there that my hype meter is dropping fast. :(
Oh well. |

Well, I spent my weekend in the lowest parts of S1, trying to get my crafting maxed and finding any SP quests. So I was in the worst laggy areas for launch. Yup it was laggy. Yup it took 10 mins+ for a quest to update and I lost count on the times I had to log back in again but I must admit the game is a good game. I am a sucker for playing MMO's at launch and am used to bumpy launches. This one is no different. If your going to play MMO's at launch then you need to learn patience. It comes with the territory. Otherwise wait for a few months then buy an MMO when the game settles down. MMO's at Launch are like a raging fire. |

General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 10/22/08 10:19:29 AM
I would like to think that the graphics would improve 10 fold by the time it went live. However I am too old to wait for promises on Mmo's as we all know thats an empty feeling. So i'll make my judgements for now on what we have. You have to remember, these are the screenshots that their marketing department decided to show us, in order to get us excited. Sadly i'm not excited. However, i'm just 1 customer and there are plenty out there who may well be excited by such screens.

Fact 99% of all stats are made up and 100% of all stats can be made to reflect anything you like. You can always make your compacy, country, whatever look good/bad with stats :)
(Just went to the poll in question - it added up to 101%. Gotta love that :p) |

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Special Anniversary Pricing
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/13/08 2:22:14 AM
I have recently gone back to DDO after dropping it just after launch. Positives: DDO combat is almost like the FPS of mmorgs. It's real time and you only hit the mob if you swing your sword and hit him as you would in Doom with a chainsaw :) The quests are complex and make me think, just like some of the harder Guild Wars missions. A game for Rogues! It's like playing 'Thief' the Mmorg but where you can actually fight if needed! Close to the D&D ruleset so that people familiar with the rules can really get to grips with the system. Sound: Nice use of sound and music as ques to let you know when your about to get jumped! Negatives: There are still not enough missions. I hear they are going to add some more to the lower levels of the game when Release 7 comes out and they introduce the Monk class. Close to the D&D ruleset and requires you to be familiar with the rules and equipment. People who do not have a D&D background may struggle to understand many of the items and rules. Most powergamers will grind it to death in 2-3 months tops. With no major endgame to keep a powergamer happy they will move on. Overall: If you like dungeon crawls, problem solving and dynamic combat - give it a go. If you want to melee every mob in sight or spend hours in game fishing, there are other Mmorgs that would be a better choice.
