The only one that I would even consider giving some of my modern time to would be EQOA, the original console MMO.  Hell they still have a webpage dedicated to taunting and thanking those those who happily played through the many years the game was available.

The one that should've never been released?  I've played in beta....I'm of the opinion that they need to fire the animators and modelers.  I'm serious when I say this game belongs in the early 2000s.  Besides that this game has absolutely nothing to do with The Elder Scrolls other than having an old man in a robe who sounds like Sean Connery telling you that a magic machine has blown up and your soul is in danger. *deep breath*  No shit.

I've only seen a few people do the "pole up the ass shuffle" in my day but it was either because they didn't have the normal motor functions of a sober human or they were screwed up on some sublime drug.

All those years of dreaming about an Elder Scrolls MMO has come to this....  It's as if they had to spite me for spending so much mental energy frivolously.

That is what it all resembles to me.  If the 2lb log I just dropped into the toilet is an mmo then I would say that is where the dev team got their inspiration.

I will give you this advice; learn whatever role(s) you want to play most and try, try, and try some more.  Learn the map VERY well, learn your champions VERY well, and be patient with yourself.  There will be some quick reactions required but awareness and knowledge will serve you just as well as you will know what to do in the myriad of situations that will present themselves.

Other than that make sure to wear your armor that has +100 against verbal garbage.  Most of the angry people you'll run into are jaded vets or people whose lives are just not going the way they expected that game.  Both of which have nothing to do with you, so just work on improving your game and forget about it.  You'll learn some rather colorful ways of cursing before it is all over with.

I wish you the best of luck and remember this is about fun.  The games will piss you off sometimes but make sure more than anything that you're having fun or there is no point.  Good luck and Godspeed.

P.S. I recommend League of Legends and DOTA2.  There are of course others, but these two are particularly polished and fun with a variety of characters to represent you in the arena.

I always play a tank in MMOs.  It's one of the most rewarding and challenging positions in my opinion.  I get bored FAST and need to be bombarded with information constantly to keep entertained.  Tanking is one way of pleasing my overactive and ADD riddled mind.  Everyone has their reasons, that is mine.  Hope I see you in game.  GL.
You'll get a lot more out of the experience if you actually take the time to smell the roses.  Get to know your NPCs and listen to their stories. They have quite a bit to say and more than most of it is interesting.
/golfclap.  God smiles upon you this day o' childe of the light.   Run and frolic with glee in your heart.

My comparison was not that a movie gets beta tested, my comparison would be more like a movie getting released and selling a bunch of tickets on fandango and other sources but then only putting it in a few theatres then people would not be able to see the movie that paid for it. If you don't get my comparison, don't strain yourself bro it's alright.

They have taken in more money for a service from more people than they can provide the service to, that is a simple fact.

But they're not holding your money within an iron grasp.  This would be more applicable "We're sorry sir, we unintentionally put up for sale more tickets than were seats available.  You're more than welcome to watch the film at another date or we could issue a refund.  We're willing to do everything we can to rectify the issue.  Also as an additional bonus the film will be available to you for viewing for 29 more days and the movie will change each time to provide you a unique experience.  Again we apologize for the inconvenience."

It's not as if the opportunity has vanished just because of an initial mishap.  You're still going to get to see your movie.

Some rather odd responses in this thread from armchair "lawyers".

ToS are contracts. Contract law is one of the oldest branches of law (another being Family Law). There are contract laws on the books in the U.S. (and thus I presume other European nations) that date back to the time of the Roman empire.

To adequately see if SE has broken any law (whether statute or case) it would be best to get a contract lawyer. Preferably one that specializes as contracts pertain to digital media and services.

When I was taking contract law in uni it was stressed that much of what goes for the customer "agreeing" to such and such terms and conditions in a contract dealing with digital goods and services has never been challenged in court nor gained serious momentum in state or federal legislatures for changing or clarifying such contracts. My profs were of the opinion the typical digital good/service contract is weighted toward benefiting the seller where it's possible to do so. If I remember correctly even lopsided contracts are permissible unless they're utterly "unconscionable" (unconscionable is a legal term).

The consensus of many of my profs was that a lot of the conditions in today's digital media contracts would not hold up in a court of law were someone(s) to have the nerve, time and money to challenge them. The real reason they are maintained is that the level of ignorance about contract law in all 50 states (as well as the enormous cost and time it would take to dispute) remains. And as someone else maintained - most contracts these days insist the consumer waive his/her right to have a judge and jury preside over a dispute at all. As part of "agreeing" to using the company's service or good you must also agree to have the dispute privately mediated/arbitrated instead. Law courts are no longer an option - else you are breaking the contract (breech of contract). And any settlement that might result from arbitration/mediation almost always includes the condition that the settlement never be discussed with anyone.

It may well be that SE is doing something "illegal" under U.S. contract law to U.S. consumers but until someone has the time, money and willingness to hire a top-notch law team to convince a court the case is legit and ok to procede...well...we're all stuck with what we have.

As for other countries...I don't know how it would play out there. I do hope European players are not experiencing the frustration that NA gamers are having. Best of luck to everyone.

And you basically just went on and on about a few "profs"' opinion on digital service contracts.  There is nothing in this specific ToS that guarantees 24/7 service.  Usually there is an area that specifically states that they are not responsible for interruptions in service.

Man pays money for service....service goes down during heavy load... man sues service provider?  I'm assuming you've never had a cell phone that lost its signal?  Are you then going to sue Verizon because you couldn't use your phone for a period?  This is assuming your service will resume when you're in the appropriate area.  Same goes here, the service will resume.  Apparently your degree was in fluff.  I appreciated your thesis on irrelevant BS however.

Anyway!  This is about the purchase of a 30-60 dollar game based on your edition.  The SERVICE is only worth 12.99.  It hasn't even been a month yet and you get a free month after purchase.  So in actuality there has been ZERO loss of service in relation to money spent.  The initial purchase is just for the right to play the game(This is known if you have played any MMO).  So hang in there cowpokes you haven't lost anything yet besides your wits.

This is only truly about the decision to not include the taunt ability.  Even with the most advanced AI science could muster you could still have an ability/spell that would force the mob to focus on the tank.
Keep the faith all ye fans? of FFXIV:ARR. It will soon be up and you will have an amazing game with true men like these as your devs behind the game. They obviously care about the gamers and how much they enjoy their game rather than just the dollar signs behind your commitment.

This problem is due to an unforeseen circumstance, meaning they did not plan this.  I'm sure that there are professionals behinds the scenes who are working on this diligently.  All of this means that they are without fault and until they charge you for months at a time with no service all the while lying to you saying that you can play freely; you have NO legal case.

This is a hiccup, you are not being stolen from, you are not being wholly denied service.  There is a problem with the servers which is preventing you from playing not DENYING your service.  There is a very big difference between the two.

Hell I preordered the game too and I can't play because my motherboard is blown.  So take that.  The servers may be stable in a few days but I won't get to play for another week or so.  You're still doing okay sweetheart.

AGAIN read the policy that SE has instituted that is the illegal part.

They are intentionally restricting some people's access to login or make new characters to try and control the problem.

THAT IS ILLEGAL!

This is due to a hardware limitation.  This is not due to some maniacal scheme.  Go get your refund if you want it.  That is all you're legally entitled to.  It is your fault if you feel you want one and haven't sought one.

After thousands of dollars in court the only thing I could possibly see you being entitled to is a refund.  There is nothing illegal about what is going on.

It's okay brother, just go sit in a nice quiet corner and breathe into a paper bag until it's over.  I understand your pain.

Come to Leviathan, where a kid can be a kid.

Also home to the greatest guild in FFXIV:ARR; Phoenix Reborn!  PhxRb tag.  If any of them are seeing this, my gaming comp has a fried motherboard and will be repaired soon.  I miss you heathens.

Huge budget+IP does not a great game make.  That being said I can't answer the poll because it is rigged based on a biased opinion.  EVE has nothing to benefit from going f2p.

Everyone is confused because the saturated market is forcing some developers to choose a specific payment model.  Most of the f2p mmorpgs are from last generation.  Those which are newer MMOs are f2p because they just didn't have enough genuinely unique ideas or that special kind of polish.  We're looking at lackluster execution and/or not enough players for all the options available.

This is not the new trend, this is just a lull between one generation to the next.  Some are and will continue to thrive using the p2p model.  Some are and will continue to thrive or exist using the f2p model.

This reminds me vaguely of those who were convinced the world was ending at the culmination of 2012.

Keep your pants on.

Your best course of action would probably be to wait until the wee hours of the morning and try to create a character then.  This has worked for me on several games.  GW2 was notorious for all the popular servers being full at all times.  I would just wait until after peak hours then POOF I'm golden.  Sometimes, however this will require just a small amount of sleep deprivation.  Just make up for it the next day.
This was your first test and you failed.  Not because it took you so long, but because you lost yourself in the process.  Meditate on some kittens or something bro.
Something that says GLD PAL MRD WAR or Disciple of War.  No reason why you shouldn't be able to need on the latter.  Anyway, yeah sorry it is probably your luck as of late, so just stick with it or move on to the next dungeon if you out level it.
I've already pre-ordered but alas my motherboard went bad a few weeks ago.  I'll probably be joining everyone either right before launch or way after.  le sigh.
