These are My Problems With WAR, are My Concerns Real or Baseless?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/22/07 12:02:50 AM
I was trying to find the best place for people to educate themselves on WAR if they have any sort of questions and the tools I've found most useful are the podcasts describing the game on the Warhammer site, and fan videos from conventions and especially the recent gathering Mythic hosted for the fansite leaders. The Mythic podcasts are at : http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/podcast/ Another good group of videos: http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15936 Oh and it also helps to attend Gamesday and see the game firsthand, along with a presentation by Mythic. I do still have my own concerns related to the game, the main one being whether they can make it as good as they can sell it. I've gotten hyped up on games before *cough*SWG*cough* that havn't delivered. However, Warhammer Online has 2 things they didn't 1.) Mythic not SOE and 2.) Alot of opportunities for everyone to get their hands on the game before launch. #2 is the fact that quells alot of my fears related to the game because to me the more people they are willing to show the game to before they launch the more confident they must be that its all coming together they way they planned. These are My Problems With WAR, are My Concerns Real or Baseless?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/18/07 11:48:54 PM
-edit- This is in response to the OP's second post 1.) If you are referring to the greenskin and dwarf lands than yes I could see where you might get the impression that the landscape is not dark, but if you can check out some of the Chaos lands or even the Empire these landscapes should be considerably darker. 2.)As was stated earlier thats simply how Orcs look in Warhammer and its up to you whether you like them or not 3.)I havn't heard over much about endgame PvE, I think that most of your endgame time is going to be spent trying to sack they enemy cities in RvR, but i'm sure they'll have some sweet dungeons. 4.)While one side might have larger numbers than the other on a particular server it shouldn't translate into a long term advantage. and no matter how many people they outnumber you with you will still get help from the Dogs of War in the instanced combat so it wouldn't be a complete wash. Hopefully server population will be balanced enough that it will be a non- issue. TimberDragon |

UI information? Modding? Macros? I hope so...
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/18/07 11:10:13 PM
I tend to agree that we shouldn't have to download a UI mod just to remain competitive in PvP or PvE . UI mods like some of the aforementioned WoW mods that give data that wouldn't normally be available to a player are more like 'easy mode' than legitimate mods. Mods should never do something that the standard UI cannot do that would affect combat ability. I definitely think that UI mods should be in the game but should be of a more aesthetic nature and display the data more efficiently rather than actually affecting game play. I think the AH mods like the ones in WoW are a different story however because all they do is take the data that you could sit there and sift through manually and figure everything out on pad an paper TimberDragon |

I personally like more reality in games because it not only makes the game more immersive and believable but also makes you appreciate you accomplishments more. For example making a character that would be a 'rogue' and robs people on the road but never gets caught, despite everyones best efforts. I don't think it would be as much fun if no one comes after you or if there is no penalty for failure. Thats the main thing I dislike about the current generation of MMO's; there is no penalty for failure, in WoW you don't even lose exp when you die you just have to run back to your corpse in ghost form or revive with sickness either way you don't have to worry about picking up the stuff off your corpse like everquest used to do. It would make successful raids much more fun because you know if you were to fail you would lose exp and have to run back to your corpse without any equipment. I just find that MMO's provide more of an escape the more immersive they are and to me that means they need to be as realistic as possible. However, I think I might be in the minority on this topic unfortunately.

Originally posted by impulsebooks I agree, the way they talked about it in the video, and the way Warhammer tabletop is run would lead me to believe that the banner s are not going to be just for "appearance's sake". But will in fact confer combat bonuses to the group in the area around it. The vid also mentioned that they could be captured as trophies by the enemy so not everyone in the guild is likely to get their hands on the guild banner i mean what guild is going to want to see their banner in the hands of the enemy.
I also believe that guild leveling won't be overly preventative to newer guilds forming. The fact that older guilds are more powerful is a constant regardless of guild leveling or not. In other MMO's the older guilds with more members are more powerful and able to affect game play then the newer ones. I also believe that even newer guilds will be able to get bonuses relatively quickly so members of newly formed guilds will still be more powerful and more able then people not in guilds which will encourage non members to join or create their own. The vid also mentioned that guilds would have to decide what bonuses they receive at the different levels which leads me to think that not even all the older guilds will have ALL the bonuses you and your friends may want , because they will have to cater to a larger audience, for instance say the guild has to make a choice between a crafting bonus and a PvP bonus, chances are a larger guild will choose the PvP bonus that a larger number of people will find useful. Some may not want to be in a guild that takes that choice and will then form their own and make different choices. All in all however this guild system will hopefully make for an interesting and entertaining experience in WAR Timber Dragon

Pick the first Expansion Race you would like to see
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/07/07 6:28:00 PM
I definitely think that the Skaven and Lizardmen would be a viable choice, because it would allow them to open up sections of the 'New World' and also add some interesting under ground content for the Skaven. The only problem would be where would the Skaven pop up? I don't know much of the lore for Skaven are they in the 'New World' or only the 'Old World' ? one of you will hopefully fill me in. The other possibility I see Is Bretonia and Lizardmen, a possible excursion from bretonia to the 'New World' perhaps? It will probably be more a decision made by games workshop then one made by EA Mythic at least thats what I hope for the future of the IP.

So Warhammer will not have an offical forum.
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/07/07 2:13:25 AM
I've played a large number of MMO's in the past and personally have seen no correlation between the quality of forums and the quality of customer service or quality of play. SWG for example had great forums and great interaction between the community team and the players. However they still managed not only alienate their player base but also "unbalance" the game (this is just my opinion and is the reason I stopped playing before NGE). So the quality or existence of public forums does not create a development team that listens to its customers. In the end I tend to trust EA Mythic and more importantly Games Workshop because I doubt that they would allow EA to screw up their IP. TimberDragon |

What's with monthly subscriptions???
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/01/07 10:38:00 PM
Personally I have no problem with MMROPG's charging a monthly fee. What i do have a problem with is when game developers say they will use that fee to develop more content, and then release the content that the fee was supposed to develop in an 'expansion pack' and charge us twice. I'd rather get charged 20 bones a month and get decent content added every month in the way of a new zone or dungeon or some such than get charged 15 and find out later that the devs have somehow found the free time to produce an 'expansion pack' that costs another 40$. Now I understand that companies need to make money and I have no problem with that like I previously stated. But when i get an inferior product I vote the only way that really matters anymore.... with my wallet. |

Yea it sounds intriguing. Does anyone have an extra buddy key I could try? I've been looking for the next MMO since I quit WoW about 6 months ago but most of the stuff out looks like it fell off the back of a dump truck.
