So, it appears as though you are intentionally misleading everyone here or you are a sucker for hyperbole.  Either way, your statement is inaccurate.

After reading all the BS on these boards I told myself I wouldnt go Patron.

 

But Lo and Behold, I made a character on a new server and my wait times have never been beyond an hour.  There is land for grab all over the place, and I'm just level 12 so there you have it, plenty of land in newbie areas.  I've also never crashed.  Overall, very smooth and enjoyable experience for me so far.  Much better than some of the fools on these boards would have you believe.

So I became a Patron.  And for some reason it hasn't reflected on my account, but I haven't been charged yet either.  And I just read on their forums that I should be fixed when I login tonight.  The game is worth $15/month IMO, plus, I really need the LP. 

 

 

I was planning on subbing at release, but now I see there is zero need to.  I'll just buy my auction house token and fiddle around with this game until...well...something else shiny comes along.  

Too bad too, we all knew the landgrab was going to cause issues lol but shit has gone insane, and yes, more so than other crazy launches.  100% due to the limited resource that everyone wants.

 

Something about it looks intriguing.

Shhh, keep it under wraps, man!  MJ has our money and we have the game we want being built.  We do not need any more hyped mmorpg.com players added to the mix.  Let the latecomers be late.

 

To answer your question though, there is no hype because there aren't any pretty pictures or videos floating around.  You know, the stuff every game, even failed ones, tout before release.  Honestly, after the past few years of MMO launches, I am much more excited and happy to be jacked up about ideas versus what the developer wants me to see.  Sure, it's a huge gamble...and I hope it pays off, for all of us.

The depth is lacking.  Every game that has come out has been just that, a game.  The culture has changed as well.  More folks these days can care less about the quests and really only play for the reason of maxing out numbers.  You won't find as many people making, say, a tank with a little extra AGI because she's a dodgy tank.  Or the STR-heavy, battled-hardened Mage who prefers to battle hand to hand.  Min/max has beat out RP.  This genre was RPG before MMORPG, now it's just MMOG.
Played CB3&4.  LP was never an issue for me, but I don't play 5+ hours a day.   That said, it is obvious I would never want to not be a Patron if I am going to spend any real amount of time playing.  That's also fine with me.

The weakest part of the game is the questing.  That's been the universal opinion of everyone who has played it.  Even the people who liked the game.  

So, as a developer, you decide to make the weakest part of your game mandatory for the first 30 levels in order to learn the core gameplay features?  

Worst game design ever.  That would be like Turbine saying, "You know, our PvP really sucks, but we're going to force players to do it for the first 30 levels in order to learn about the combat needed for PvE while questing."

Bravo good sir, that is exactly what I was thinking, and to the OP's mentality this is the kind of precedence the online gaming community is churning out now days? The guys who think time and effort is of no importance? People do not want to put time into something for a long period of time only to find out the real game starts at x amount levels later on, however you look at it it's a poor design flaw and Archeage NA will soon become another bottom feeder game geared to those who have no understandings of how online games used to work. Marketplace feeders are the abomination!

Wake up and smell the coffee dude, mindless mode questing for leveling is nothing new and most people don't mind going through 30 levels to get through to fun.  

Would I prefer some uber leet awesome adventure to progress my levels just like all the anti-quest players do? Yes I would, but that's probably not going to happen.  

Please stop talking on behalf of 'most' players and lets stick to talking about yourself..ok?

A fun fact about AA. It was released as sub model in its own country but failed to generate enough interest and had to go F2P to save itself. So that should tell you about what 'most' people thought about the game.

Guess I am not one of your "most" players as I will not go thru 30 levels in order to get to the good stuff.  If a game doesn't grab me within the first 4 or 5 levels then I drop it.  Sorry but games need to be fun starting at the beginning not just somewhere in the middle or end.

"Casual" does not mean "un-skilled". "Casual" just means "has other things to do other than gaming". So the difficulty is not always the problem for casual gamers. Time investment is. I simply don't have the time (or inclination) to run a 4 hour raid any more, whereas I used to happily run 8+ hour raids in EQ.

I just cancelled my sub a few minutes ago after reading some comments on Reddit.  And don't get me wrong, these kind of comments have been flying since before release, but basically they all say that if you cannot devote hours upon hours to this game, there is nothing at endgame for you.  I get to play MAYBE 30 minutes, 3 days a week, so while I may enjoy the time I get to pop in now, it sounds like at level 50 it wont be worth it to sub.

Anyway, WS is a solid game and fun to boot.  I would recommend to anyone who has tons of free time.   I hope they can keep it hardcore niche to keep the initial supporters happy.

Have had three suspensions and I do have google authenticator on my account.

 

I have a feeling not logging in for 2 weeks makes it auto suspend you for some reason. 

 

Sadly it does not auto suspend billing renewal even if you are suspended.

 

Regardless until it happens to them they will continue to think NC poops rainbows and butterflies.

Dude's suspension came after the resub date.  When your account is suspended, your subscription is cancelled.  You must resubscribe once the suspension is lifted.

Look at it from the company's point of view.  Had you prepaid for a month of game time then hacked the game (breaking your agreement) on purpose and gotten caught would you still be upset? 

If you are truly innocent (and god knows there are TONS of people who say the same as you but are stone-dead GUILTY) then contact support and work through the proper channels to get your account back.  

Nonsense.  Your account violated the EULA and ToS.  It is their right to cancel your license to use the software immediately, after all, you agreed to that in the terms.

 

If all that you say is true, contact support and they will help you out.  As far as the IP address thing, sure, they can reactively look at that sort of stuff if you report the issue to them.  In the end, your account has been found guilty, the burden of proof otherwise lies on your end.

Well, at least you wont be charged again.

 

Next time, do the 2-factor, no matter what game it is.  Someone got a hold of your username and password.  Doesn't matter how now.  What does matter is that this likely wouldn't have happened had you had 2-factor.  Also, read your subscription terms a little more closely.  I have to assume this was your first subscription model MMO...

The reason WoW was so successful is that it is an easy game.  It was an EQ-clone that improved upon existing systems while easing up the gameplay.  Slap on some cartoony graphics to hook the kids and you have a recipe to reach a new kind of player base.  I was there, I saw it happen.  

 

The rest is history and you can add all kinds of points on top of what I just offered, they have certainly added stuff to the genre. Nonetheless, that is how it went down.

It's weird...I wonder if this is how everyone who cut their MMO teeth on EQ feels.  I know I'm really really hoping they bring back the magic that once captivated me with EQ.  IMHO it was simply the best Mmorpg ever, everything else compared has been garbage, save a few close contenders (SWG and DAoC).

In any case, I'm not going to get my hopes up.  Too many recent letdowns has jaded me.

 

EDIT: FFXIV:ARR and WS are recent non-garbage games, to be fair.  But something is still missing from them when compared to my rose-tinted memories of EQ.

 

EDIT AGAIN:  And WoW, yes it was successful.  It was a polished, dumbed-down, EQ clone, how could it not be?

Don't forget that this was 1999+ and a lot of people didn't even have computers and internet access, so 200,000 would be an easy number in todays technological world. Interdependency is not a fun concept in todays games because they're all based on single player activities. Working together (or against each other) has always been the focus of multiplayer games, that's why they're multiplayer in the first place. You don't make a multiplayer game just to have a bunch of people sitting around doing their own thing... oh wait, in modern MMO's you do.

An excellent point.  Good grief did the internet turn to crap once all the regulars got machines.  I knew it was the end when they were offering free PCs with any purchase of a double-wide.  That was in 96-97.  I miss those pristine early days of WWW before it filled up with, well, look at 99% of the comments anywhere.

Alot of people started playing EQ back in the day, not because it was one of a few MMOs out there.  EQ was one of two, UO being your other choice, and as for the masses knowing what mmorpg meant...forgeddaboudit.  So there weren't folks sitting around going, damn I want to play a MMO, which one should I pick.  No, a lot of the initial draw was because EQ was...OMG.... D&D + Doom!!!!111!1oneoneeleven.  That particular magic is not going to happen again until we figure out what is past 3D gaming.  VR, probably.  Maybe?

 

Pretty sure this is just a symptom of a much larger issue.
