I'm a Dragon's Prophet Founder, and without a game forum, I have no idea what's going on. I know the open beta starts this Friday, April 12, but I have no invite, no idea where to get the download. I'm very disappointed.

[Column] Elder Scrolls Online: The Solo Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/29/13 3:30:55 AM
Grouping used to be meaningful, ongoing, and fun. Now, players get together ad hoc for a quest, and leave afterwards. There's no continuity, no friend making. I hate pick up groups and idiots. So, I solo.

Neverwinter: The Rant #1 - Fixing the Holy Trinity
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/19/13 12:22:21 AM
I've always enjoyed the trinity, but I'm so glad we can also solo when we choose in other games. I like a choice, for when I feel like grouping, and when I need to solo because my friends aren't online. I don't like pick up groups. I think LotR cured me of pugs.

[Column] Elder Scrolls Online: The Solo Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/12/13 4:26:41 PM
I like what this article said about soloing. That would make it my kind of game, with grouping for dungeons or just socializing. But, another poster said ESO wasn't planned for solo, so I guess it remains to be seen who is right.

Isn't anyone interested in Repopulation? It will be sandbox, skill based, much like the original SWG. Beta to begin this Spring.

[Column] Guild Wars 2: A New Year, A New Character
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/01/13 6:03:02 AM
I leveled two characters to 80, Ranger and Warrior. Now I'm just playing with all the classes to find one I want to work with. I found I like the Mesmer. The Necromancer is fun, too. I can't get into an Elementalist.

[Column] Guild Wars 2: A Treat, or a Trick?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/25/12 10:21:03 PM
I enjoyed Guild Wars 1, but GW2 has become an expensive hobby that I need to curtail. The Halloween theme is terrific, but even there, very hard to accomplish most of the special events. I'm level 80 but not making the piles of gold others seem to be, and I'm already sick of grinding the same events over and over. I will wait a few months until the game and costs quiet down, before playing much more. There are other games and expansions to try. |

Amen to this third post. While everyone has his/her own play style and choices, GW2 HAS choices if you just LOOK for them. |

[Column] The Secret World: A Complex Issue for Funcom
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/15/12 10:39:56 PM
I think it's a great game for what it is, very challenging. Too much so for most casual gamers like me. I think this article and others are over-analyzing the loss of players. I saw it coming. Fans just won't admit it becaue they like the challenging aspect of the game. I posted in the beta that players needed to be given a choice on quest difficulty. |

I had to quit. It was too tough for me. I could have continued grinding, but I got tired of it. Other than that, I thought it was a very good game.

The Repopulation: Latest Update is a Big One
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/01/12 11:01:36 PM
So, the game will be open world PvP, and only crafters are safe from gankers. I can't hunt and explore. I could do that in SWG. Are all sandbox games now open world PvP? This turns me off because of the juvenile bands of gankers that run around grieving just for kicks. |

The Secret World: Review in Progress - Part Three
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/19/12 9:55:11 PM
Susie Ford: "The one troubling aspect about combat that I have discovered, however, is the unforgiving nature that the Ability Wheel embodies. We are encouraged to discover new ways to combine skills to make the most effective use in combat. We are encouraged to create new and unique builds to use interchangeably depending on a given situation. Believe me, I want to experiment and discover new ways of putting my skills together to make my character more useful or a more brutal killer. Yet I hesitate. Players are penalized in a way, for making poor or less-than-optimal decisions when it comes to point allocations. If a player makes a poor choice when spending points, there is no way to go back and fix it. There is no respec in The Secret World. To get more points, you simply have to keep playing. That may not bother some folks, and I know with Funcom decided on the system, but it still bothers me." I agree and have complained about the low amount of SP we get, since beta. We could try more weapons, more builds. As it is now, it you don't like your choice, you have to start over. I think Funcom may be surprised when it's time for subsciptions to start and many players will leave. The fanboys won't agree, but Funcom's bottom line is financial. |

All characters look identical
Beta Reviews & Impressions [ARCHIVED] « The Secret World 6/18/12 9:27:16 PM
What you all don't realize, the game is in beta. All the characters including the NPCs are placeholders. Beta is for finding bugs, not for developing your character. I've been assured the release will improve character creation. |

General: 5 Ways MMOs Will Survive
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/29/12 1:51:39 AM
Originally posted by xaritscin I do agree with the endgame comment.. But, that's what you see from players, they want to know what the endgame will be, always. I hate raids, but that's what players expect. The gaming world is getting very competitive. Players don't want the same type of game repeated adnauseum. They will stick with WoW if that's what they want. |

The biggest difference for me is that in Tera, when you reach the lower twentys, you need groups for the continuing quests. I'm not a pickup group fan. In GW2, I didn't need a group, I just joined in to whatever was going on and got credit for it, I can see that GW2 will be a long playing game for me, although I will try others out occasionally, like the Secret World. |
