Part of the flaw imo. A) You'll be torn to shreds more then 'now and again', and B) the solution is to be carried by other players rather than anything you can do on your own. And even that solution will take at least a month or so most likely. How is that supposed to be fun? They're trying to fix it now but people aren't quite convinced it will help. It'll probably require more time for there to be a good solution. |

it's fixed now though, but you have to admit, how the hell do they even manage to make that happen, and let alone let it happen exactly at that moment xD |

I'd seriously recommend waiting a month until the pops normalize(post patch hype atm), people get used to running the current campaign mechanics (for good or bad), and a fair number of bugs getting worked out first. (Not getting any contribution at keeps, queues not popping etc)
I think you'll have a better idea of where the game is at and where it's going then.
That said, if all you care about is the here and now, then a good hype moment is always as good a time as ever. Just don't expect that first impression to be the way the game will be in a few weeks. (again for good or bad) |

So you can only play as skaven after your faction wins the new dungeon? Lame
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 11/19/10 8:11:33 AM
Again... ->> You do NOT unlock a race! <<-- It's no different than going to wintergrasp and picking up a siege engine, except here There's no permanent Skaven anything you get to play. There's no progression. You win the scenario, you or anyone else who did picks up a Skaven(Max 12 at a time) and uses it to fight till they either die or leave the zone.
It's really no different than picking up a temporary Siege Engine in Wintergrasp or whatever in Wow, you just need a few more/different steps to be able to do it.
---------
And @ Above, I believe it's 12 per realm, but I admit I only saw one person mention that limit so I don't know 100% sure if that's correct but Mythic have stated countless times the number of Skaven is limited and twelve for a single keep to siege sounds about right.
--------
Basically if WoW had used ... Fairy skins on their siege engines instead of actual engines then it would have been exactly the same. New Playable Race - Fairies! 4 Different classes! (types of siege engines). |
|
You didn't explain it either. |

Skaven = when you are RR65+, when you win the new scenario, when you have the resources, and if one of the 12? slots for skaven on your *realm* is open, then you get a chance of taking a Skaven out to siege the keep until either you die or zone out.
They're really just siege engines basically, except you can't break any walls here. |

To give any kind of meaningful reply to 'how is endgame' it would probably help if you mentioned why you left in the first place.
Anyway, overall, they took out forts, they took out scenario's as they were and made them into a weekly event, redid the city siege, introduced Land of the Dead, changed Weapon drops so they're basically 'Scenario weapons' now which will require some heavy farming.
And with the upcoming changes RR is going to 100 (provided you buy the pack) and the way Keeps are sieged will change as they introduce their own version of siege engines (Temporary skaven skinned siege engines basically which you can use in that zone if you win the new scenario). No destructable walls by the way, still just the door, but a few other ways to get into the keep passed the wall.
Considering the new changes are about to arrive I don't think anyone can really say what endgame will be like in a few months except that you're still going through the same zones, towards the same city. |

why not add a 3rd faction starting now with the slaven

The difference being that you're never just along out there. In WAR as soon as you start the game and peek out into any Area you have THE other faction breathing down on you, and only you, because you are their only target. With a 3rd faction, if one faction wasn't there, the other two automatically start focusing on eachother. And that always allowed for some breathing space, or times where you could pray on two other forces fighting eachother. I'm not describing it very well but it *really* makes a difference in the way you experience the game. |

My thoughts on Skaven and why Mythic chose to add them this way, and a little of defending to boot.

As for the whole Skaven joining sides thing, I see it as they're not joining anyone, they're just intervining, let your imagination do the work, not the game :P I donno if this is how Mythic planned it but thats how I'm seeing it as. Screw who's side they're fighting with, they just wanna kill, thats why they take either side :P Besides, those cowards would join anyone after they see their boss fall to the ground, which is what happens in the game, though I agree I don't really see Order trying to get them to work with them by killing their boss, but like I said, we can always twist things a little, the Skaven want some payback on the Destro, they they imerge on the Order side of the field, simples :-)
I know they had trouble getting around the budget. That's why they sold out to EA because otherwise they wouldn't have finished the game at all. However, since release the game sold ~800k units in the first month and has seen 2 years of anywhere between 300k~- 100k~ of monthly subs. Now I know they had a massive bill to repay their investors, but is LoTD really the best they could do with all that money in 2 years? Did they send every cent back with hardly a dime back into the game for new content?
On the skaven thing, I think it's going to be really hard to imagine it as 'intervening' if you pay them with Warpstone that you got first and then your main character changes *into* a skaven for the duration of the siege (they're basically siege engines), to fight along side and actually have to be protected by Order so they can live long enough to serve their siege purpose. It's not like they're swooping in from the side for a sneak attack or something. They're an integral part of the siege all of a sudden. Look. I completely can see 'some other faction' mingling in for some purpose or another. I personally don't care much for lore at all and think games should be built around working interesting mechanics, regardless of lore. But if looking at it from a lore perspective I can certainly understand why most people think what's happening here is almost inexcusable. To think that 'excuse' they came up with would actually happen that way, and that's it, was for a lot of people like pouring salt on an open wound. It's just ridiculous.
Edit: Home account vs Study center account btw, same person xD |

I'd hope a mythic 'undercover' would actually come up with something more convincing than this wall of text. So yeah, I highly doubt you are one xD. Mostly you just seem happy they are actually introducing *something*. That's fine. it's good to get additions, and plenty of people will be happy with finally being able to do something new or different, especially considering the Skaven are introduced to get rid of the RvDoor.
I think most people realize a 3rd faction is never going to happen. It's simply too late, and would require a complete redesign of the whole game to incorporate them. That said, even though *you* think their short skit satisfies the lore, many people think they could have at least bothered to drum up a second skin that would fit Order far better, rather than making a short situation excuse which would probably never have happened that way in the Warhammer Universe but would rather have ended in slashing them up for even suggesting it.
Obviously people are going to enjoy the new patch. It's like tossing a bone at some starving dogs. It doesn't really matter how much meat is on it since WAR players have been dying for something new to do for so long.

Yes. If you're far lower in level, and you're in far lower gear, yet you're playing with a premade, who are usually higher RR and better equipped, you can possibly stand to help out a bit and heck, even beat out puggers and scrubs. Face the exact same team, with people with the exact same skill level but higher RR and Gear, and you'll be facing the floor. It's that simple. Howcome the prevailing argument against gear difference always seems to be that you should simply look for a scrub to beat on? What happened to competition?

Amazing. High level zone, Raid Content, PvP zone. All those things are sepeate things in WoW, yet for WAR all those 3 refer to the single 24v24 Scenario they are adding. Like to twist facts much?
Let's laugh at your comparison by bringing up some of the actual facts behind Cataclysm, rather than 'Raid in WAR, Raid in WoW? Check.'
"
6 new zones, 7 dungeons, and 3 raids compared to your 'check' Get a reality check. What you're doing is tantamount to saying Latvia's population is equal to the US's because they both have people.
Not to mention you completely disconnected the most significant part of the discussion again, which is that if you take 1.4 seperately, the game hasn't gotten any content additions in over a year. |

You're comparing expansion packs to the RR enhancement you can buy in WAR.
If you want to take WoW as an example, which you clearly did, then if you chose not to get the WoW expansion, the only thing that really changed for you was less people to play with. The game mostly remained the same since the people with expansions would move on to the next 'Tier' so to say.
Now take WAR, a PvP game, where Balance between players is arguably the most important thing there is, and they suddenly offer increased RR's. No tier change. Just exactly the same game, except now if you don't actually buy it you can forget about playing the content you were playing up until now because anyone who did buy it will smash your face with the extra RR/Gears/Weapons.
This is still ignoring the whole 'content' discussion, which in one case either makes you pay for extra content in a game that has offered hardly any content for your sub, or makes you pay for only the increase in power/progression without giving you anything else. |

Then take new frontiesr like I mentioned. Free expansion, in between expansions and other free content, from the same company, with less subs (probably) and over half a decade ago. And still probably more than people got here today.
I don't disagree the content versus price = ok-ish if you take the whole of 1.4 for 15$~, but when you do it's really hard to deny that where WAR is concerned, you're reall ypaying for content you would have gotten for free in nearly any other MMO, and even then there should have been a proper sized expansion for you to buy around now. |

You've obviously not divied up Cataclysm then. It's ok. You believe all the stuff you mentioned there has value. I can get into that. All of that for 15$, fair enough.
So what happened to your sub then? If you take out all of 1.4 you have over 2 years worth of subs from hundreds of thousands of people, and what do you have to show for it? LotD, and not even an expansion on the horizon. Some redone armors, some late classes, some redone weapons, removal of forts, fixes fixes fixes fixes, removal of scenarios to make them weekend based.
For 2 years plus and not even an expansion that's abysmal. In Daoc, with less subs they still made expansions regularly, and you got more than the amount of 1.4 put together for free with expansions like New Frontiers(The same company, less subs, less developers, over half a decade ago).
-------
The point here is not the value of 1.4 as a whole. It's not the sub based content on it's own. It's the two of them together.
Looking at 1.4 alone I can certainly see 1.4 in itself being something people would gladly pay 15$ for. If there had been an actual decent rate of content in the last 2 years, and a full fledged expansion on the way then people wouldn't have blinked twice for the 'extra' stuff they can get with packs like these.
Instead you get to pay for their fix to RvDoor and an extra scenario, and weapons and armors which mostly have old/reworked art, and a shop filled with old mounts, and a single level upgrade, some barber tokens a lot of people will never use, not to mention a forced RR upgrade if you want to have any hope of continuing to play in T4 on a fair level. In most games this would have been a content patch, and yet here they not only replaced it for their expansion, they're even making you pay for it. |

Also, to even get the levels in WoW, you needed to have levelled with someone to a certain level. Something to the extent of being able to give one free level to a character of the one who recruited you for every two you levelled together (up to 60), which means 29 levels or something like that for levelling together to 60.
That's a far cry from the original thought here which was simply buying all your levels. |
