Zergs are one of the reasons why I left PS. When I started the game (a couple of months after its release), the players were not that organized and the whole map was filled with hotspots involving different numbers of troops and different kinds of opponents.

I mean, you had no idea of what was waiting you or attacking you, sometimes it was just a small squadron, sometimes a huge army on march, sometimes only troopers, sometimes only armored vehicles. At that time my team and me were wandering on the continents engaging opponent at random... there was action everywhere.

Then came the zerg, an efficient strategy but which group all the players on the same place at the same time. The first zerg you see are impressive but then it becomes boring because it is a neverending following of the same strategies. In the end, it was all about outnumbering the opponent, no surprise, no strategy.

So, one year and a half later, how's the gameplay currently ? Is it still about Zergs ? Are the caves populated ? Is there hostpots everywhere or are the battle limited to just one or 2 continents ?

Do you mean only reward or reward + loot sales ?

I used to make lvl3 missions but my rewards were between 500 and 750k Isks each. That would mean doing a mission in 3-4 minutes. What is your secret ?

Planetside was my first MMO, I have huge memories of it but got tired of SOE's management.

When I left the game, there was the vehicles variant (Aurora...) and the capitol system (shields and stuff). Since then there have been, as far as I know, the BFR and the BR buff.

Except the usual buff/nerfs I saw from the beginning, can you tell me if the dev team released new content ? I mean new weapons, new vehicles.

When I stopped a year and a half ago, they were talking about new deployables for engeeneers (mount turret, barriers, special AV mines)...

If there is a lot of new content since I stopped, I will maybe give it a new try.

I don't want to put the blame on everybody but a couple of days ago I managed to log on my SOG account after having configured my gfx settings to be as minimal as possible. Finally I was able to wander on this land (with horrible lag but still painfully playable) and to start exploring the game.

Well, I played a couple of MMO before (Eve, CoH, DAOC, SoR) and I have always been helped at the beginning. On SoG, everytime I asked for infos or help I got my share of "...","U NOOB" to not say when the people over there were laughing at me because I didn't know the game mechanics as well as them.

The game has some interesting aspects but if you add both the horrible engine (in terms of ressource consumption) and the poor community, I don't have many hopes for this game's future.

Utter nonsense.

I'm making plenty of ISK on tech I products and I only started a month ago.

The thing is you need some good capital to start with.

Give me some examples. What do you call plenty of Isks ? What is your margin ? What is your ROI ?

If you can't argue more than that, you're talking non sense.

If there is something that kinda suck in Eve that's definitely crafting IMHO. If you want to make decent money with crafting, you need a good tech II bpo.

Tech I doesn't worth the shot, if you make money with tech I, your margin will be so low that it will take you days to make as many money as with a couple of hours mining or missionning.

About tech II, you need a good one. Tech II Ships BPo are among the few that will turn you into a billionnaire. Tech II items gave very random profit, it depends on how much the item is used, how many producers are competing.

I had the luck to win a tech II Bpo. My production cost were around 1.3M. At the beginning, I sold the item 9M each (I was on my path to become the new Bill Gates :p) then a lot of producers won/bought the same bpo and the prices started to drop (quite normal, that's free market).

The problem now is that my item is selling between 1.350M and 1.400M.

Now some maths :

I sell around 50 of it a week (more or less)

50*100.000 (at best) = 5M a week

I mine 2 hours in hi-sec and I earn 8M with my covetor....

That's my experience of crafting in Eve

Thanks for the replies, Btw what are the populations currently on the 3 servers ? Apparently you have to choose one of these servers when you create your account and you are unable to change after that.

Razielle,

when I read your post it seems to me that crafting is a very fun activity with a lot of things to do but a friend of mine who plays DAOC told me that in DAOC, crafting was boring to hell, that you can sum up this activity by "Make 300 items of this type and earn some XP","Then make 300 items of that type and gather some XP".

According to him (he is a fighter in DAOC), crafting is a very long and not really profitable activity compared to what can achieve a fighter.

I heard that ToA had a bad impact on the game economy especially crafters that can't match with players selling their artefacts.

You know I hesitated a lot between Eve-Online and Ryzom. I liked so much Ryzom's skill system but at that time I was thinking that Eve' crafting system was better (I was wrong) that's why I didn't pick that game sooner.

What are Ryzom's main drawbacks currently ?

I was browsing the SOR forums in order to gather informations about the game before creating an account. Unfortunately I found a post from Nevrax in which they were saying that the French trading court had renewed the survey of this company (in other words the company was having economical difficulties and the French court given the improvement of their profit gave them a bonus time to proove that they won't go bankrupt).

I didn't know that the company was in such a bad shape. Do you have any information about the bonus granted to them ? Will the game last 3, 6 more months or maybe a whole year ?

Thanks for the answers. I checked on the official site for the population count. In fact, it seems that there are a little more people in Europe than in the States, unfortunately, since the population is splitted among the several languages we have here, we end up with less populated server.

I'm leaving Eve and was looking for a new good MMORPG. I was tempted by both DAOC and SOR but it seems that DAOC offers the deepest content and gameplay. Unfortunately there a  lot of things that got me lost in this game :

1/ Apparently the population is lower in the European zone than US one. I read a post talking about creating an account in the US zone. Are the populations so low in Europe that it is a waste of money to create an account there ? Is creating an account in the US now a mandatory thing given the current populations ?

2/ It seems that Europe is one expansion late but I still read that the most people are playing on "Classic" servers. What does it mean ? Does it mean that the expansions suck and that players stick to the original DAOC or does it mean something else ?

3/ Finally, I'm more a PvE guy than a PvP guy and when it comes to interact with other people my favorite activity is crafting. What expansion/server type will suit my taste the best ?

Thanks for taking the time to read that long post

I'm with listof on that one, anyone who has purchased the pioneer offer (so who pre-ordered a game that will be launch in 4 months !) without assuming the risks bounded to it should not be allowed to own a credit card.

That point is crucial from my point of view and my experience in Eve. The game is focused on military PVP : to balance the game CCP made a amazing works at allowing affordable ship fleet to become very efficient with a good tactic. The drawback is that it cost very few money to build a PK fleet able to rampage any industrial corporation.

On a larger scale, it is easier to attack then to defend in Eve thanks to some abuse (loging out in a contested area, instas jumps that allow you to force a blockade, exploiting lag on nodes)... The biggest alliance in the game, Xetif, was destroyed in a couple of weeks by well trained PvPers.

More over, I still think that crafting sucks in Eve, of course most of the items are player made but you forget to say that they are all the same. If you build a "150mm Railgun", every single crafter in the game will be able to build the exactly same railgun as you, no special bonuses, nothing. Most of the time, crafting is run by corporations who build thousands of item at low cost (because there are no difference between the items you can only lower the price to attract buyers) and they use this small profits as "side income". A small guild willing to develop its own business will have little chance against these corporations.

Only the rare "tech II" items are profitable but since they are given via a lotery, you can't count on it.

Hi all,

I'm currently playing Eve but I'm getting bored with it, I'm sick of mining, sick of missionning, sick of producing (and I don't like PvP fights). It looks like my next 6 months on Eve will be same as what they are now.

I was thinking about SoR, I heard it had a great manufacture system and a great skill system (not a time based one like Eve).

Do you know any open ended MMORPG (released or in dev) that could suits my need ?
