My suggestion is look at the guide in this forum espically the bottom part where it talks about what you need to know to start looking for a corp.

I agree, train up to say a mining Cruiser like the Osphrey, and get your learning skills up. Corporations and alliances are always looking for new miners to help.

If you want the PvP route, do some research and specialize in certain skills and ships, you'll be much more effective this way.

Steep learning curve, and a horrible death penalty even with insurance.

It's a new players nightmare at first, but can be very enjoyable as you learn and play more.

I say try it 1st.

Its basically like Runescape but better graphics, thats how I viewed it when I played it.

The cartoonish graphics didn't help either, but what I might ot like may not bother you.

MMORPG's if you haven't noticed already all share a common concept to keep you playing somehow through "repetitiveness"

Grinding, questing, instancing etc.

I play Silk Road Online atm (grind fest) but I still think its a ok MMORPG, not to mention its free.

If you don't want to get bored, play FPS'.  Ever changing enemy and every game is different and makes you think.

Nothing too exciting happened so far this year for MMORPG's.

Factions was a good add on, and Burning Crusade seems to have good hype because of the new races and flying mounts, so we'll see.

Just do quests and eventually you'll level up.

Quests are usually just grinding, but with a added bonus.

At level 16 I recommend farming sp's with a SOS lvl 16 bow also.

Silk Road Online is a good Korean MMORPG. There's also GW Factions as mentioned with some oriental settings. Not to mention Hero Online, which is in open beta I believe.

EVE isn't your typical MMORPG. It requires patience and a lot of teamwork to become successful. There is no "one man army" no matter how much sp you have in this game. It's all about joining the right corp for you, and learning to work well with these people in general. However, the death penalty is very harsh in this game, because you can lose everything you worked for, besides your character if killed and podded. Play the trial, and if you like it, do some research, find a corp, and have fun in EVE.

I say try the trial of WoW and see how you like it. I first was addicted to WoW, but after 2 months of playing it became boring and more of a grind both in pvp and pve, so I just quit my subscription. WoW and EVE are both 2 completely different MMORPG's imo. For me, I'd rather stay with EVE,but ultimately it's your choice.

-Immature Community (Too many to name...)
-Bots (RF Online...)
-Graphics
-Content (RF Online, 100% Grind Fest = Pay?)

If I'm expected to pay for a game I want a decent gaming environment to play in.

An immature community doesn't help, especially if I'm going to grind for an hour or two at a time.  Bots destroy the economy and take away the principle of hard work in gaming, making the game less enjoyable for others and hurting the economy.  Graphics are just a plus, but if I'm paying for a MMORPG I expect a certain degree of time and effort in it's design.

Most importantly content has to keep me busy and interested.  Not just grinding 24/7 but actually doing something to benefit my in-game character.  I have no idea how this can be done, but that's up to the MMORPG developers to determine

Exactly.

Take for example WoW, record breaking subscriptions and profits for a MMORPG.  Yet nothing really spectacular in plan except a brand new expansion that you AGAIN have to pay for besides the monthlys.

Imo, the more profits a company makes, the better the game will become in say the coming year.  However, if profits become ridiculous to the point the company can't begin to comprehend what they're making, things will not necessarily become better becomes the company knows they can still make large profits without necessarily adding much new content regularly, or fixing problems in-game.

WAR and Tabula Rasa will take imo at least a forth of the WoW player base the first year.

I've heard many good things about WAR and Tabula, and hopefully they'll turn out as good as people say they will.

Also I say a forth because many players by then will be tired of WoW most likely and might want to explore more MMORPG's.  Tabula Rasa will most likely appeal to fans of Sci-Fi that like MMORPG's but dislike a Fantasy story and prefer the Sci-Fi base.

Waste your time playing a more enjoyable grinding game such as Silk Road Online if you're planning to grind a lot.

If you want to pay though, just try out RF Online if you want to deal with mass botters farming your lvl spots, or WoW a fairly decent game besides long instances at higher lvls as well as pvp rankings.

Try this game if you insist, but it's really not worth your time.

If you're into grinding, RO is all grinding, trust me I've played it for at least a year.

Then try FlyFF or Silk Road Online.

FlyFF is more cartoonish and childish, and Silk Road is more of Guild Wars graphics.  Both require grinding mostly, but I prefer SRO because it has a job system with suits/mounts that you can use to make more money and great skill customization.

RO isn't worth the money imo, and I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, which is why RO is declining already, or better MMORPG's to spend your money on.

Edit: Just saw my reply, who bumped this topic up -_-

About time RF Online started a "massive offensive" against macroers. Macroing in RF Online was a big dissapointment during my trial period, and is annoying for a lot of the RF Online player base since it disrupts leveling and training of skills. Keep it up CCP.

WoW is a good game I'll admit it. The group instances are unique, as well as the pvp system, the game has introduced a lot of new features not fully integrated in other mmorpg's yet. However, these same features have downsides. The 3-5 hour long instances, waiting times for battlegrounds, pvp rankings requiring a rediculous amount of pvping in order to maintain your rank, and more. As mentioned time and time again, WoW is popular partly due to it's unique gaming features, but MOSTLY due to it's already popular fan base due to WC III, SC, and D2. I've never seen a WoW commercial on t.v. but it probably spread by word of mouth very fast due to indirectly advertising to it's already large player base. It's no surprise WoW is as popular as it is, but people give WoW too much credit to it's popularity simply because it is supposedly the "perfect" mmorpg game.

GW is one of those games that you either love or hate imo. You have to be a PvP enthusiast to fully appreicate this game, as that is what it involves mostly during end game. If you're like me, and don't like to PvP much thats probably why you became bored of it, but 8 months is still a good amount of time playing a game such as GW since it doesn't require much grinding. Only farming for equips to sell or use at most could be considered grinding.

It's tough to tell the age of someone being immature in a MMORPG, it would be unfair for me to say all the younger players are immature because I've actually met some 12-13 yr olds that are polite and kind.

As for me I'm a 19 yr old MMORPG player who plays Silk Road Online, and Call of Duty.

I'm also part of a clan called Warrior Nation, the largest gaming clan in the world with a active roster of 1.3k+ members.

This is by far the most mature bunch of gamers I've met, ranging from the ages of 13 to adults in their 40's and 50's.

I've narrowed my choice down to a Hunter/Rogue, and plan on going Horde.

Is this a good setup?

I'm still researching some builds atm on the WoW forums too, but all in al I plan on using this character for raiding, pve, and gold hunting.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
