Something for the OP creator to bare in mind.

JGE is a continuation of the 'Jumpgate'  storyline/universe.

As such alot of it's content and focus will be exactly that of it's original game, which was a space simulation MMO with mining, trading, PvP and PvE.

Also remember that the original Jumpgate was in beta back before EVE alpha was even created. And by the time EVE started their closed beta Jumpgate had already been at a retail launch stage for about 2 years.

So I think the main question isn't if JGE is using EVE-features rather then being original, and more Is JGE going to acknowledge the faults of it's original and improve itself.

If the Jumpgate community can put up with my crapola the last 7 years and still reply to me reasonably then I really don't see the problem.

What Lobotomist did, was make a thread expecting alot of "OMG! YEAH! GREAT IDEA!!!" and too be instantly accepted. What he got was replys about the fact that JGE is and will be a space simulation game, and not a fantasy MMO with avatar running around.

Rather then accepting this and saying that it might make a good addition later if the focus of the game changed, he proceeded to attack people who doubted the idea about how "JGE will fail unless it adopts my ideas".

Whilst it's true that the Jumpgate community will openly welcome new people and treat them politely, if you give crap and don't pay attention to others, you'll receive 3x more crap and not be listened to yourself

I'd of agreed that they' learnt their lesson from AA simply by looking at what they did with JGC.... but the more I hear about the plans for JGE and how it will appeal "to everyone", the more I'm expecting JGE to suffer from a launch where theres appeal to dozens of play styles but dumbed down simple short content for each.

Their already planning to pretty much release two completely differant versions of the game, one with restricted consensual PvP and another with more JGC styled 'open' PvP. Which in itself will make future balancing and new features a major pain in the arse to balance to suit each seperate style.

Which, is what I think was the major flaw with AutoAssault. Netdevil attempted to make a game with a unique equipment generation, unique crafting system and awesome graphics and focused on all 3 at the same time. Because their attention was spread across so many differant areas what they ended up with was a game that was good to look at and had a quirky loot system, but had a half-done crafting system and poor Client-Server handling.

Though I believe most of the flaws have been chalked up officialy to 'To high system specs'

In responce to AI mining for you..... your kidding right???

Why would a game thats main focus is on players performing the tasks themselves introduce a system where people type a command and sod off for a day or two whilst the game does the job for them?

We have already been told that the mining system in JGE will feature a more 'active' role, where the player will not only have to find asteroids to mine, but then find veins on that asteroid in which to extract ore.

As for Player owned station, the last we heard from Netdevil regarding them, they were still unsure if they should even be included into the game on launch. So it could be that the problem will be a non-issue as player structures simply won't exist.

Does indeed seem that JGE will for the most part, feature a more 'peaceful'  restricted PvP system.

But fortunatly for those of us who actually like to interact with other players, rather then pretending other people flying past you are simple NPCs there to cater to your ever "OMG! GIMME CREDITS!" demands, Netdevil have said that there shall be seperate shards available for players which will have a more 'open PvP' feel to them.

Shame that the final solution was one that will divide the community down the middle and promote ganking on the Non-PvP orientated server... but there we go, whats done is done.

Quite simply, you'll know well before the trial is up if Jumpgate is your type of game, if it isn't then just cancel the subscription.

Unlike your typical MMOs you can experience pretty much everysingle in-game feature from day 1 later experience and investment just leads to you being able to get bigger benefits in your chossen task from say a bigger ship to equip faster mining lasers and 100times the cargo space to hold your ore in.

Not any "PvP? oh sorry you got to be lvl 80 for that, come back later"

Didn't I read an announcement on the JG forums about a change of hands with support/billing? If so maybe the website got caught in the transition unexpectedly?

The reason JG never really got the attention it so deserves is simple in my opinion:

1. It's not based on a pre-established game universe so that's 1/2 of the newer MMO players gone.

2. It doesn't instantly allow the average person to quickly feel amazing and increase their  sense of worth  simply because they sit there clicking "Attack attack, heal, auto-travel for 40 minutes, attack attack, chat to NPC, run back for 40 minutes". (And let's be honest most online players, play online simply to feel better then the other average players even though their one of a dozen thousand so called 'elites)

3. Doesn't allow young teenagers to dress up as a skantly dressed females of various species and dance around in order to try and get free gear

4. Never once got the marketing pressence needed to attract attention due to the unfortunate pull-out of 3DO straight after retail launch (And most of you will know this can make a MMO because many players these days will turn around and say "hmmm JG? Not seen it advertised on xxxx... not worth a damn then obviously)

5. Requires time and real skill to play (Though I've been playing for 6 years or more and I'm still a unskilled bullet shield, so maybe this is a lesser factor)

6. Prehistoric Graphics, though in Jumpgate you'll never see the blocky jagged textures you get on ship/station/gate textures in EVE... but hey EVE has pretty lighting to distract people from that so it still receives claims of being "The best looking MMO about".... Maybe JG sector beacons should become snazzy discoballs which fling random flashes of bright colours around, certainly worked for EVE.

7. No stats... and everyone knows having to calculate aim without auto-targeting and dicerolling can be a very difficult complex process of  "Point and shoot".

That's exactly the thing which keeps me from getting an account. I'm too afraid it'll end up like Asheron's Call II or any other MMO which was good, but not enough to keep or attract people.
And that's why I don't want to invest time on a game which will perhaps close in the next 6 months :(

Well look at 'Jumpgate', Netdevils original MMO.

Now a old MMO hitting it's 6th year of retail and a online player base of about 70-80 peak busy time, and 10-15 off peak, yet Netdevil are still running it, it gets added new content being developed and patches monthly (except for recently due to a unexpected bug holding back the latest build I believe), and recently in the press Netdevil CEO stated that Jumpgate will be receiving a graphics update....

Auto Assault's time of questioning it's life span is far far away my friend,  ask again toward the end of 2008

Edited out as the information about the situation I had read appears to have been completely out there far away from what actually happened so posed no real meaning.

Time invested in relation to benefits gained, shouldn't be primarily focused around 'experience' or 'levels' though, something I think many MMOs are starting to forget as more and more seem to boil down to this simple 3 step progressive system

------
1.Start the game and learn the basics

2.Once familar with the game grind levels, don't worry about anything else such as equipment as we don't provide a extensive amount for you types.

3.Upon Achieving maximum level, open your character sheet and relise your using really bad equipment, but don't worry once you reach max level you get access to all the content that 95% of the development time goes into... new equipment, new equipment and more equipment.
-------

Whilst I'm not saying don't invest a large portion of development time into content solely for those who have gotten to the end level stage (be it through extensive playing, or simply rushing through to be one of the few rare thousands of 'elites'), I do feel that those players who do like to savour a game for being what it is in ALL of it's character progressive stages are actually being punished and excluded from 95% of game development in almost every single MMO out there these days, simply because their taking the time to admire all of the developers work.

So in summary, is Power leveling a bad thing?

Well in itself, of course not it is just away some people play games, it's not for the content but simply to be able to say "I've done all that there is to do" which is fine, it's their time and their money so they can use it as they see fit.
The real problem with power leveling is the fact that because it is such a widely popular play style, MMO developers no longer cater for anybody else, leading to dull lack of content  whilst your progressing through the game, and all the interesting content and rewards after you've endured weeks if not months of sheer repeatitive boredom.

Hopefully some of the companys out there that have worked on several MMO projects are starting to relise this, and we'll see a change where interesting content and development time is spread equally, so as to not punish one extreme or the other.

Been playing AA for a few months now and I safely say I've never seen nor heard of bugged turret targeting unless your refering to the 'Auto Targetting' feature and if so, yes it's annoying that can be turnt off.

As to the question about AA and it's relationship to Carmaggedon, it's kind of a mix of a yes and no answer:

No you can't splatter infantry on your windscreen by driving into them

Yes you CAN splatter 3-5 infantry in a group in a hail of machine gun fire/Flames/8mm explosions/Radioactive goo

No you can't see the damage your dealing to your oppenents chassis when you ram them

Yes you can see the damage your dealing to EVERYTHING else (buildings, wrecked cars, fences, trees, road signs, traffic lights, street lamps, wild life, infantry, mutated plant life) when you fly over a hill guns blazing landing near a enemy encampment and see the encampment blast apart throwing rubble and dust particles flying in all directions and people scream as their hit by stray bullets.

No you can't be a elf/dwarf/orc

Yes you can still pretend to be dispite the fact that your a green/yellow/brown mutated human with glowing eyes and oddly shaped matter growing out of your head.

dmodus, pretty much summed it up but there is something else to consider when deciding if AA is worth subscribing for past trial.

When I first started playing Auto Assault I found every mission and every encounter with mobs easy to overcome and before I knew it I was lvl 15 and still learning the basics driving around HW21.... Then a few days later I hit lvl 20 and ventured into HW80.... Man what a differance! I found what had previously been a easy dull instant win had become me running for the nearest repair pad screaming like a crazed banshee in panic as my chassis spewed countless sparks and 20+ infantry that I had known to see as insignificant weaklings began dishing out high damage hits.

Unfortunatly HW80 isn't open to trial accounts, which I feel represents AA in a negative light as once you enter the second Highway the game begins to slowly open up and actually get interesting (at least for humans) as long as you keep pushing onward rather then hide in a low level area after you've got to lvl 26 because it's safer and promises instant victory with no risk.
