Forget the graphics issues or lag. The quest level scaling is horrendous and needs to be adjusted significantly.
Beta Weekend Event Reviews & Impressions « Guild Wars 2 4/27/12 7:55:09 PM
A major problem right now is the way the quests are scaling. It doesn't really matter if it is a solo story quest or a group event, the quests range from medium hard to just stupid hard where you die over and over. Another major issue, let's say for example we have a quest that is level 10. Well we get a bunch of people who are nowhere near level 10 and usually around the 3-7 range. These people obviously can not contribute but they make the quest much harder for the people near 10.
I made a charr character and right outside in the northern area of the starting area you have to kill a shaman. Well the shaman was level 6-8 or so but everyone there was level 2. It probably took about 30+ minutes for people to actually kill it. Same thing for the ghost vault in the second area with 4 bosses.
I don't really see how this one little beta weekend is going to fix this issue as they would need to go through many quests to adjust the scaling. |

I strongly disagree with what you said.
There are many reasons why Darkfall is failing and that is because there really is not much to do, unless you grind months (literally) to prepare yourself for PvP.
I honestly would love to a see take on merging "sandbox" with a "themepark" style game.
Give us some real open world dungeons, with scripted bosses similar to Rift, WoW, EQ2, SWTOR, etc.
Give people roles, rather than just what's the hot pvp spec of the month, or maxed 100 in every single skill. Believe it or not, people actually like being able to define themselves as the "healer" or the "tank" or even the "blacksmith" (ultima online).
Give us the open world pvp, full loot game. Make items not matter as much and easier to get.
Give us experience and leveling, but points that are spent in skills. IE: Get 10 skill points per level, cap level at 70. Want to be a swordsman? Spend your points in it. Cap the amount of points you can get based on your max level, so you can not be 100 swordsman at level 10. Honestly, WoW did and Rift does it right. Imagine if you got 10 "talent points" per level and there was a skill system similar to Skyrim. A player could literally put their points in any tree. It would easily expand on what is currently offered in WoW/Rift where you're limited to 3 predefined trees in your spec, and what is offered in UO/MO/DF where a point just means you do it slightly better. Why not have a Skyrim style? You put 5 points in swords, and it increase the damage you do obviously, but you could choose what the 5 points do. Maybe... you could put 5 points in a bleed % chance, or a skill such as "Sword Strike".
Give us factions within the game, rather than "walls" when you create your character. This whole two faction crap, needs to go. If players want to join a faction, join a guild and that guild will pledge allegiance to a faction/city/monarch/whateverRP, otherwise let people interract without a wall between two sides.
Give us politics and drama. RP is not sitting in Goldshire or Silvermoon using "olde english". Real RP is actually taking your character, creating rivalries, wars, friends and adventures.
Give houses and social hubs, outside of major cities. Sure we'll always have the Sanctum, Brit or Orgrimmar, yet players want to be able to interact outside of these places. Let players own parts of the world. Is there a good spot with gold ore veins? Maybe the "sandbox" blacksmith will setup a house there. Is there a high level dungeon (think BRD in WoW) with lots of scripted monsters? Maybe the "themepark" healer will setup a house there for access.
Merge the genres. Give the "themepark" people something, give the FFA people something. But who cares. Developers won't take a chance until the market is saturated with so many WoW clones or "themepark" games that they simply can't make money anymore with the same old shit. |

How well you believe Archeage will do in the west?

Nobody wants to play the same old junk from World of Warcraft 2005. I mean look at Warhammer. It had the same basic quest system and battlegrounds, but it also introduced PQs and RVR into the mix so you're not doing the same "click 3 terminals, kill 30 droids" quest over and over. Plus WoW War AOC etc all had a variety of monsters. SWTOR... has ... droids and republic troops. Big deal. |

That's what they said with War, Aion, AOC, Rift, etc. But somehow it is different this time around. Why? Because they VOICE ACTED EVERYTHING. Ya. But the gameplay, Star Wows 2005. |

Originally posted by taus01 Yup exactly why I quit at level 34. After doing the same quest click 3 terminals + kill 30 droids, I got tired of it. There's no variety to the quests. There's no variety to the monsters. Kill droids, click terminals. Oh well there are a few republic soldiers you kill, but it's still kill 30, click 3... kill 30, click 3. You know if the space missions were actually tied into questing, and they had story behind them it would be amazing. Also, why the hell is there no co-op or pvp space?
Hopefully 2012 and beyond will be the era of developers trying new things. We have Planetside 2, Firefall, Guild Wars 2, ArcheAge, Mists of Pandaria and more. All with new aspects from genre to questing to exploration to development. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Official SWTOR Review
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/06/12 6:30:31 AM
Every single quest is click the same generator, box or terminal and kill 30 npcs. Every single one. The "bonus" missions, are just a misnomer for a kill x quest. It's the same thing, as it's required. Bonus != Optional. A real bonus mission would be something like clicking the generators in a set amount of time, and get bonus experience.
Compaions are nice, but kind of takes away the whole fun part when everyone else has the exact same companions. There's a lot of bugs, like Mako's toggle auto abilities get reset when you mount. Ths makes her useless because she just casts a crowd control entire fight, and won't heal you. I don't really understand why we could not customize our companions. Why is there no talent tree for them? Why can't we change their names? etc
Crafting is dull and boring. Whatever happened to meaninful crafting like eve, swg and vanguard? All you do is send your companions on "missions" and they return stuff back for you.
2011 (release) and with DirectX 11 out for years now, it surprises me they did not even take the basic features of it. There's no reason this game should not have anti-aliasing built in to the client, and not forced. Texture quality is reduced on players and monsters when exploring the world, but enhanced when you talk to people. Strange.
Combat is unrepsonsive. There is a massive post, with BIoWare stating it is a known issue, about delay on certain spells. Don't even try to deny this, when bioware themselves acknowledge the bug. A lot of the spells are useless.
The only quest dialogue worth mentioning is class quest. Everything else is 2 windows of dialogue and move on to clicking generators and killing 30 guys. To be fair here, there are a FEW meaningful small quests.
Space missions are basically on-rails (Starfox) point and click. There's probably about 10-15 of them, and they become boring daily quests after doing them a few times. There's no resaon to really even do space, except to relieve yourself from the click 5 generators, kill 30 droids quest you're on. I honestly have no idea why they would not have put space pvp in. This would have been awesome. Or hell even co-op space missions?! This is an MMORPG!
Lack of UI mods, macros and customizable interface really sets this game back to 2005. If you want a competitive hardcore raiding scene, you need to compete directly with the market contender. Otheriwse we're going back. I mean seriously, why was there no option to scale the UI or move things around ON LAUNCH.
Honestly I doubt this game will be anything specatular. It has less features overall than Warhammer had at launch, and the same balance issues as it. There are so many things this game could have done, but didn't. There are no mmo factors to the space missions. End game is basically outdated 4 mans, raiding and battlegrounds. The lack of LFD while leveling makes running dungeons painful.
Take off your honeymoon glasses people. If they wanted to copy World of Warcraft, they did it. Too bad they copied the 2005 version of it. Nobody wants to wait 7 years for a game to be where the others are now. Nobody would have bought this game if it did not have Star Wars on the front of it.
Verdict - 4 / 10

SWTOR is an excellent game - don't listen to all of the negative threads

Unless the FFA pvp awards some sort of armor, stat, companion, etc it is hardly end-game content. Sure it is fun and exciting but does not have lasting appeal like raiding or instanced pvp. Obviously people who do pvp and dungeons/raids will have an advantage over a person who just hit 50 and sits in the FFA pvp area all day.
Judging from the items listed on torhead.com, there's only a moderate amount of crafted items at level 50 to use. Absolutely you could use the level 50 crafted items to start dungeons and entry level raid, but it won't get you much further than that.
Note: I am not saying this is a bad game. I just want the people on the fence to understand exactly what the game is and what it offers, before they spend money. |

All of these people praising the game need to wait until their second month. Right now most people are in the "honeymoon phase" where everything seems perfect and glamourous. Wait until you're 50, and a month in and then tell us how you feel. Also, the amount of people subbing for their second month of play will dictate how well this game is doing. Box sells really do not mean a game is good or bad, just that it was marketed well. But, people coming back clearly shows it has lasting appeal.
For everyone wondering end-game is basically this: Heroic 4 mans (dungeons) Warzones (battlegrounds) Operations (raids)
So please, if you're on the fence about this, wait until the next month. |

OP, I would seriously look away from that computer if you plan on playing anthing above the lowest settings. I build systems as a hobby for friends/relatives/myself. If you want any professional advice contact me in a private message and I will assess your needs and cost for free. Based on your note about old republic and battlefield 3, you're going to want something with power. And you're in luck because intel just released a new line of cpu for the mid/high-range that are superb. |

First off we have the nice UO style elements:
But then we have 200+ something skills, yet we can max all of them? Now the only way for us new players to reach that is to 1. macro, 2. buy gold meditate, 3. AFK swim and 4. grind it out. Now I'm sure plenty of you vet players who have been around since the start will shoot me down for this, but I can see the problems already. No this really isn't a QQ I died post, because believe me I have had my fair share of deaths in UO and Darkfall already.
I actually had the chance to go on a siege with Ruff Necks, but after seeing the mess, I kinda looked at it like what is really going on? We had ~50 players with just maxed up spells shooting randomly at each other. Half the time nobody could tell who was on who's team when we finally got into it. Ya sure we could charge a spell up and wait for the red name, but I paid close attention to who was attacking who because I really was not doing much.
After doing this siege I knew right away I would have to spend months crafting and skilling up to even be somewhat viable in pvp. My problem really isn't "the grind" it's more of the way skills work. If skilling up was REALLY fast to 50-75, medium to 90, and REALLY slow to 100. I think we would have a much better system. Right now, it's like really fast to 10, medium to 30, slow to 50 and just dead slow to 100 half the time.
Now this game really needs to put a skill cap in because having to max out 1h, 2h, afk swim, LM to 50, GM to 50, an elemental school, archery and everything else to be viable, is really not fun. This ends my whole skilling up rant. I'm not asking for them to hand me GM 100 every skill right now, but I would rather like to see the curve increase your skill quicker, but max out slower. Does this make sense?
This brings me to something else. Housing. What is the deal with housing? We have a huge open world, yet theres only 200 or so houses? Hell I saw houses being sold for more than everything in the game combined. One of the best things I liked in UO was being able to setup my villa, get a few vendors, and on my crafter setup a massive trade network. Large pvpers would come by and purchase regeant bags, armor bags, etc. I do not see this happening in Darkfall EVER unless something huge changes.
Players. want. houses.
Do I even need to talk about the alignment system? Put a timer on being red and consequently add more time. Kill 1 person red for a day, kill another red for 2, kill another red for 5, kill another red for 10, but max it out at 14 days or so. Or have it be in-game time spent so you can't just log out for a week and be back in.
Also, having to AFK swim or run just to get our stats up really isn't fun. Well sure you could say well just play the game normally and don't large scale pvp. Well you also need the stats to protect against red gankers that roll through the noob towns.
I don't know. This game is really neat, but I just wish they stopped focusing on the small things like adding new fortresses and pve crap, and worked on the actual core game. There's no reason magic should be broken into 10 different sub catagories. Give us a skill cap. Let people specialize in skills. Let us pick magic and as we level we unlock new things like fireball at 50 magic, eye rot at 55. Whatever.
I say these things because I want this game to succeed more than it is now, and I'm sure the vet players will shoot all this down, but as a new player (and there are a lot of us) I feel this way.
Edit: Let me just say my experience has not been 100% negative. Myself and two others decided to try it out, and we went exploring from orks to dwarves on mounts. It was really fun. I also love the fact the game is naturally scary, and not movie scary (loud sounds).
I love being an archer because I play a lot of FPS games. I would love to see some house vs house combat kinda like Yew moongate lol.

It was really small but it was very similar to ultima online. Top down view, etc. You could actually own your part of the world and build on it. Any information is greatly appreciated. |

First off, I play this game on a rather large display, so is there anyway to make the UI text larger?
Second, I really need some guidance to get into this. I did the tutorial, but I'm just getting confused where to go next. |
