Which grind did you actually enjoy the most? And Why?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/06/10 2:26:27 PM
quake 3 arena It was a grind practicing up to play well enough to raise my frag count to a respectable number. But it was a pleasant grind because it was not hard-coded into the software. It was instead a natural progression of me learning how to play better. That's one of the few aspects of real life I don't mind creeping up in my games. In an mmorpg where players can sell goods for any price they want, gold farming is a good grind. The amount of money you gain per kill or quest turn in or vendor sale is hard-coded. The good part is player-to-player transactions are not, so you can buy or sell for good or bad prices based on luck and your real negotiation skill. Getting good at this can be a grind but a natural one not dependent on arbitrary hard-coded points. |

Compromise always benefits those wanting the easy way out, never those wanting a challenge.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/02/10 11:37:23 AM
I think the OPs emphases on "challenge" and "compromise" and "hardcore" and "casual" is counterproductive. Im not suggesting it was wrong to bring those issues up but the emphasis on those things can misdirect the important issue of clear labeling. It would have been better imho to focus his argument solely on the problem of inaccurate terminology. Which is a real problem. Casual gameplay and games that cater to casuals should be clearly labeled and described as such. Such games should not be erroneously labeled as being also for the hardcore. To describe a game as hardcore just because hardcore and casual options coexist in the same game is a lie. That game would be casual. To say you want a game with casual game conveniences that still allows hardcores to do things the hard way if they want to even though you could achieve the same rewards casually is essentially asking for a casual game. Claiming such a game caters to both camps is a lie. I, personally, am a casual mmo gamer and I recognize the importance of honest and clear product labeling. |

Guild Wars 2 vs SW:ToR which you more hyped for?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/26/10 7:35:14 AM
They both seem like equally good games and I only look forward to GW2 slightly more because it lacks a monthly fee. |

crafted gear is as powerful and cool looking as dropped gear |
|

far less gear dependent hugging and carrying lotro and i think eq2 style "appearance" gear slots that you wear gear for appearance while deriving stats from your actual stat gear (separately slotted) that is unseen while the cosmetic costume gear is worn i think aion has a similar function that allows you to transfer stats from one item to the looks of another so you can dress how you like while keeping stats appropriate for you level they do all this ill play wow til it dies |

Do you say yay or nay to F2P games with Cash Shops?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/07/10 7:56:28 AM
It depends. Cash shops are bad in my opinion, if the cash shop has consumables (potions or whatever with temporary unfreely-renewable effects) and rental items. Consumables in the shop could be a sign that the game was probably tuned to be a harsh grind for those not using them. Rentals (inventory space, armor, weapons, mounts, etc., that only remain in your possesion for a few days or weeks before it expires) is just p2p in disguise. I have only one mmorpg meet this criteria, Adventure Quest Worlds and to a lesser extent, Free Realms since they require a small subscription fee to level up past a certain point. I could be wrong about FR though since I haven't played in about a year. |

Hey if you could Blend 2 of your favorite MMORPG games into a single game, which would they be?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/28/10 8:28:55 PM
Adventure Quest Worlds (aqw) and Freerealms (fr) They are both browser based, so that makes them a good match clientwise. I would use aqw's revenue model where the items in their shop and their weapons are cosmetic and all weapons have roughly the same dps. They don't have xp potions or any other "ease-the-pain-that-we-added-to-our-game-to-make-you-miserable-or-else" items. In aqw aside from classes, the items stats are separate from their model so you can look how you want to look and enhancements can be applied to the item of your choice although each general item type has its own limited selection of possible enhancements. I like the fr's style of polygonal graphics over aqw's flat vector graphics and fr has lots of interesting noncombat classes, so those aspects of fr would be in the game. The combat in fr is a bit more interesting, so the game would have fr's combat mechanics. I like how in aqw instances are non private by default and you actually have to make a private instance if you want one. This allows you to run into lots of random players in instances. In fr, instances are private and you must invite others to your group to come in so the random people factor (and a big part of my mmo fun) is lost. So, this game would use the aqw instance system. I love the large expansive environments of fr. I love how in aqw everybody that damaged a mob gets the same drop (money and items)as everybody else. That means no "rolling" and no "loot drama" and no "mob tagging" shenanigans. This has resulted in aqw having a community that is happy to help people kill things and happy to receive help since said help detracts nothing from any reward received including xp which is determined purely by level and is not diminished by the number of people that killed the mob. |

Favorite Class Out Of All MMORPG's
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/21/10 4:09:53 PM
the hunter from wow and the summoner from hgl (yes that hgl) because you get to effectively be in two places at once (or more if you are a summoner) and use guns |

Would you play a 100% PVE MMO, No PVP at all ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/19/10 3:13:31 PM
Yes. Happily. |

Get rid of leveling or make it so fast that you can reach the cap in 24 hours, solo. Make the content revolve around gear, wealth, and resources instead of xp. |

I like the plant people most but really i want to play them all. |

A Beta Review for New Players***** Warning -- Long!***
General Discussion « Champions Online 8/17/09 5:05:58 PM
I've beta tested this game as well. I basically agree with the OP. Some of the frameworks are missing some abilities which forces multiclassing if you want to be well rounded. It would be nice if there were enough powers in each framework that covered all the bases so that every framework could be used to create a pure single-themed character using nothing but powers from that framework. I personally hate the equilibrium and ENDurance system. It just seems like the devs passive-aggressive way to force players to self-gimp their toons. I say this because you are essentially forced to take some stats that don't directly make your character stronger just to be functional. It's your choice. Be strong and broken or be weak but functional. Not very exciting. Keep in mind the game is in an early phase and a lot can improve. On the plus side, the character creator is well done and lots of fun. You get to test your new powers for free before committing to them. If you don't like your newest power undo it and try a different one before you leave the training facility. You can do this as many times as you like before deciding to leave and commit. You can also have more than one costume, actually you can have more than one appearance if you want, so your alternate costume can include a completely different looking body but that can get expensive. I don't think you can change genders though. The quests are your standard "kill 10 rats" type you are used to from other mmorpgs. Sometimes people will seek you out on the streets and ask you to go on a quest for them. That's a nice little feature. This is not a bad game by the current-day standards. But, this game is just not for me. For my tastes, I am better off playing single player rpgs until something that really suits me comes out. Luckily, there are many good single player rpgs out and many more coming soon. |

I am happy the game is coming out so soon. I can't wait. I'll probably pre-order. |

A sincere apology to the MMO Industry; You were right!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/30/08 8:48:04 AM
I agree with the OP. Any proof one has that you are QQ-ing, in and of itself does not invalidate a single one of your points. I was QQ-ing when I typed this post. QQ-ing doesn't mean you're right or wrong, it only describes your emotional state. |
