The fundamental difference between SWG and SWTOR
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 5/24/09 11:20:03 PM
Simple Star Wars Galaxies - Open Sandbox The Old Republic - Linear RPG
What it all boils down to is what you look for in a game. If you wan't a sandbox, you will like SWG. If you want an RPG, you will like TOR. Thats all you can really say about the game at this point anyway. Everyone also needs to stop getting so hyped up, because I can promise you that only leads to disappointment. Also, enough of the Bioware this SOE that talk. Just so you know, Bioware has old SWG staff on their team anyway. |

Perhaps give all players the option to create a jedi, however upon defeat a jedi would be killed (for good, unless brought back through some type of res). Put a cooldown in place, maybe two days or maybe even a full week. It would definitely cut down on the Jedi/Sith population and promote grouping with your allied Jedi/Sith to protect them as they grow in power. I think the best option would be to allow all players to create a Jedi/Sith from the start, but upon defeat there would be a 12 or 24 hour period until you could play again as your jedi. Your character would not be deleted, only in a recovery state from being defeated (i.e. Luke gets defeated by Vader, he has to take time to recooperate and heal). Introducing a death penalty as such would keep the Jedi/Sith population down, and prevent players from becoming upset over character deletion on death. |

I would recommend City of Heroes/City of Villains if you like great character customization. There are no set "races" but the customization is good enough that you can choose yourself and create your character accordingly. It's definitely a breath of fresh air. It has a more modern setting and you have much more freedom to run around choosing your own priorities. The only thing set in stone is that if you choose to play an Hero expect to spend your time fighting Villains, and if you choose to be a Villain expect to spend most of your time beating up on Heroes. Whether in PvP, Pve, or the Arena. They are split up into 5 archetypes - Each with it's own Primary and Secondary powers - You also get to choose the Origin of your powers, which will effect your enhancement types later on (i.e. Natural, Science, Magic, Technology, Mutation). There are also a slew of other powers that become available to everyone at level 4 in the Power pool (i.e. Flying, Super Speed, Super Jump, Teleportation, Concealment, and a few others). Heroes (Tank/Scrapper/Controller/Defender/Blaster)[Once lvl 50 you can create a Peacebringer or Warshade] 41 Total Primary Powers for Heroes 40 Total Secondary Powers for Heroes Villains (Brute/Stalker/Dominator/Mastermind/Corruptor)[Once lvl 50 you can create an Arachnos Soldier or Arachnos Widow] 42 Total Primary Powers for Villains 44 Total Secondary Powers for Villains
The visual character customization is extensive and you will never see two players that look the same (unless done purposely). If you are looking for character customization, no other games even comes close to CoH/CoV, not even remotely. Examples of Character Customization and how ridiculous it can get. |

I don't play Darkfall and don't plan to in the future. However, I can let you know that telling players to "LEAVE!" never helps game population nor does it increase the amount of needed cash a new game/company can rake in. The best advice I can give is to just deal with it. |

Here is a list of well known species/races that in my opinon, could and should be included and playable. These are off the top of my head, so I may be missing some. Aqualish, Bith, Bothan, Clawdite, Devaronian, Duros, Gran, Gungans, Human, Ithorian, Klatooinian, Mon Calamari, Rodian, Sullustan, Trandoshan, Twi-lek, Utapaun, Weequay, Wookiee, Zabraks. |

The Star Wars Universe is one of diversity and (for the most part) acceptance no matter your appearance. Taking away that diversity by limiting the species would defeat the purpose of making a Star Wars game. More Races/Species = More Diversity = Star Wars In my opinion, Bioware needs to add as many races and species as humanly possible before release. |

What class do you look forward to playing?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/03/09 3:13:12 PM
Teras Kasi?..... Don't get your hopes up, i'm pretty sure that won't happen. Hopefully we won't be choosing one class exclusively, and we will be able to progress into different areas of speciality other than just Commando, Bounty Hunter, Jedi, Sith. Maybe you wan't to be a Bounty Hunter who builds/engineers his own droids, or perhaps you would like to be Commando who is also a capable Medic. Players should be open to many varieties of specialization, and not forced to follow a set path throughout the game. Uniqueness = Greatness for an MMO. When everyone looks the same and has the same abilities, it gets old very fast.
However, I don't see anything wrong with having to pick a general direction when you create your character. As long as you can branch off into other areas as you progress throughout the game.
As for the poll, I will go ahead and say Commando. I've always enjoyed the Non-Jedi aspects of Star Wars. |

I hope they don't put magical abilities in the game.

Although most posters totally misunderstood what you were saying, you have a reasonable concern, and I can agree with you somewhat. In addition to the Non-jedi classes having no magical abilities/animation, I'm also concerned about the Jedi/Sith abilities as well. While some Jedi/Sith abilities should definately have "magical" animations (i.e. Force Lightning, Concealment, and of course Force Heal/Absorb), there are a few that I personally hope they do not tamper with (i.e. Force Grip/Choke, Force Run, and Throw Saber). Unfortunately, according to the screenshots on this forum it looks like they have already done so with Force Choke. Force Push/Pull could go either way for me. A wave is visible in KOTOR I/II, but in the movies not so much. |

What the poster is trying to say, is that he hopes the Non-Jedi classes do not have magical abilities. A good example of this would be the Heal ability in SWG where a Bounty Hunter, Commando, or even an Officer could heal himself to a both flashy and magical animation. What would be more realistic animation for a heal ability in Star Wars (for non-jedi classes), would be the player injecting himself with a stimpack and nothing more. No green flashes or little floating red crosses. This also applies to other abilities that would obviously not be magical in the Star Wars Universe. |

I would like to congratulate both the OP and those who actually thought that was a video of Warhammer. |
