What was the MMO that you loved despite a low review score?

Fair review. Covers all the major points well. Between this and hard mode D3 I really am in gaming nirvana right now, 2012 looks like being one of those good years, like 2004. |

Another day, another virus marketing attempt. Tera is a great game, its rare to enjoy a game for the journey and enjoy it fight by fight. Looking forward to organising Monday night pvp nights in my guild when enough of us crack 60. Will be fun to split those online into 2 deathmatch teams and have at it. Reminds me of the old days in UO.

Man, Mortal Online is absolutely terrible!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/22/12 5:02:17 PM
If someone with some courage and funding bought MO and threw some real development effort behind it, it could be the sandbox that many of us are screaming for. There are a lot of good ideas that have been poorly implemented. I dont have the patience (or hope) to deal with the current development team. I will of course read the comments here when the Awakening expansion arrives. |

Diablo 3: Favorite Diablo III Classes (So far!)
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/21/12 4:54:54 PM
Played my Barbarian to 10 to enable hardmode. I now have both a Monk and a Barbarian that I'm playing in hardmode. My monk died last night *sob* but I'm starting it again, I love being able to be tank, healer and dps on the one toon. My barbarian is my solo hardcore toon (the monk I play with my son). Love soloing with the barbarian. I'm hooked on hardcore mode, just loving this. |

Why do I like this game? I'm primarily a solo player (though I'm in a good guild). If I'm tired or my mind is elsewhere its really hard to solo mobs my level. If I'm focused on what I'm doing you get into the zone, hit the right moves and I do ok. I like that it matters how switched on I am. Also I really enjoy the open dungeons in the game, the Eldritch training academy, the mines zone at about level 30 etc. People dont seem to talk about them but rather than being quest hubs, they are quest LINES, you need to work your way through these areas to discover more quests and explore the whole area. I would like to see some discussion of the open dungeon areas in the final review, else you will have excluded something significant. cheers |

I focus on the storyline quests and the open dungeons. I loved that mine at about level 28, and eldritchs training academy at 34ish etc. If you just stay in the open world moving from hub to hub yeh it will feel like a grind. Also stay in an instance queue, even a bad group is entertaining. My main is only a 36 beserker, but I still enjoy logging in everytime, I must get to the next part of the story quest. Being in an active talkative guild seems to help also.

My "hopeful" future online gaming trio. You?

Probably the following: Subbed: TERA (later replaced by TSW, Archeage, WoD or Darkfall2) Lifetimer: Lotro FTP: GW2 and/or D3 Also considering ME3 multiplayer (my son loves it)

Love the game but I would like to see 3 changes. 1. A suggestions forum on the TERA forums. 2. Ingame voice chat to make partying with randoms for BAM's etc a more immersive experience, ala Lotro. 3. Only make 1 "low" channel available at a time on PvP servers, having 8 channels always available turns pvp servers into pve servers. Its too easy to avoid conflict. I'll be playing this for a long time, but please consider the above. |
|

Still enjoying the game also, have a level 29 beserker on the Feral Valley (pvp) server. Theres 2 things I'd like changed in the game though. 1. Please add ingame voice chat in the way Lotro has done. This game needs a way to chat without hooking people up to mumble, vent, TS or whatever. Particularly when grabbing randoms to do BAMs. 2. The use of channels on pvp servers. It is way too easy to avoid reds by going to one of the other 8 channels. I'd prefer a system where all people must be on channel 1, when that is 50% full, channel 2 becomes open etc, not have all 8 channels open all the time. PvP servers effectively become PvE servers. These things aside, I still look forward every day to logging on. PS: you'll enjoy the second dungeon :) |

I've been playing MMO's since my brother-in-law showed me UO back in 2001, then 3 years in UO, 3 years in Lineage2, couple of years raiding in WoW, couple of years immersed in Darkfall and on and off returning to Lotro (thank you for having lifetime memberships). I've found my home for the next few years (no not months, years). I'd been soloing in this game so far (apart from running the first dungeon - BoL) but last night I joined a guild on the new PvP server - yes they have already catered to demand and started a 4th pvp server. I transferred all 3 toons to the new server (at no cost). One of the guys wanted to hit some BAM's for a quest (level 24ish). By the time I had got to him he had added 3 more people to the group. We then spent the most fun hour I've had in MMO's for years belting these BAMs. Mind you, this is on a pvp server where everyone can "go red" on you, however we easily grouped with people and had an absolute ball. I cannot wait to log in again today. I dont remember the last time I felt this enthusiastic for my MMO. My wife isnt too happy about it, she can see my enthusiasm. I dont need to preach to people the merits of this game. Its going to be huge. Word of mouth will make this game grow. I have 2 issues at the moment. 1. I love my beserker for PvE but I know my archer is the better pvp toon for my latency. I also love my priest toon. So I cant help but play 3 toons in parallel. Not so wise on a pvp server and I know I'll get my ass kicked when people hit the cap, but I love all 3 toons. 2. If there was one thing I would want from other games it would be Lotros ingame voicechat. Seriously the combat is so good and immersive, if I group with randoms for BAM's etc I dont want to be watching the chat box and typing, I want to fight and speak. I love Lotro's voice chat. This game needs the same. Anyway, back to the game. And yes while its more difficult for aussies with our 250 ping to Chicago I'm sure I can cope. I wouldn't want to be playing anything else now... |

"...gaining weapon skills through use of those weapons is enjoyable" Please elaborate on this. Is it a UO/Darkfall kind of increase?

I have this hope that Nexus on a pvp server will become great fun like Champion Spawns in UO did. http://tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/new-launch-feature-challenge-the-nexus Bring it on.

Let me tell you a story. I had a guy ask me to duel last night. I accepted. We were both about level 18. The fight went on for what felt like minutes and I just won it. We had a good chat afterwards and I told him about my aussie ping and he said he was from Venuzela etc etc. He said this to me: "I'm going to buy this game just because of that one fight".
Have fun.
