Just bought it... Orcs Look Like the "Grinch"!... feels like Eve 0.0
General Discussion « Darkfall 9/03/09 6:18:55 PM
I really wish this game had a trial or something. All of these stories are reminding me of my early UO days.
Absolutely loved those days. |

Ultima Online, EVE Online. Dare I say? World of Warcraft.

LOL, and you actually believe them? HA, they will never be able to remake the game into the wild wild west it used to be unless they put in classic servers, which EA will NEVER do. Its just another ploy to get people to come back and play the shitty post AOS crap that killed UO and line their greedy inept pockets with more money. What are they going to do? Put in more Seige servers? HA!
I highly doubt EA is lining their pockets with UO anymore.
UO is still one of the most immerse and in depth MMO out there, no one can argue with that. Sure AoS was a hit in the groin to the players, but I almost welcome it these days. I think there is more strategy to UO now rather than the old days.
What I do miss is the sense of feeling in danger though. That is something I welcome back with arms wide open.
What EAMythic does with UO anymore is for the fans. Not the money. They want to keep the current player base happy and I think they are. What I think they are trying to do now is to get some of the old folks back that have not played since the T2A days. We'll see if this works. |

Thanks for the reply.
Actually the game hangs up a bit at the logo, but after about 30 seconds or so it'll move on. |

Just checking if everyone is having the same issue. When I press "Launch Game" it will bring up the GameGuard updater then start the game. NCSOFT logo appears but just hangs there forever. CTL+ALT+DEL and it says Aion is not responding. I understand you cannot log on until Sep. 6th.
You all getting this too? |

Yeah I'm re-downloading it right now. Imagine that though, a MMO launch and open beta without any problems : \
Let me know if you get it to work. |

Sorry. When I double click setup it brings up the Aion window and the InstallShield wizard with the progression bar. When that finishes it sits for a bit and finally brings up a window that says "Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." Then you can send a error report or not to Microsoft.
Hope that helps. |

Right now I'm getting an error when I try to install the game via Fileplanet. Anyone else? |

This is good to see. Yes I agree highly with you saying " maybe they don't have time like they used to for a game." Having college eating up most of my life now days, its hard to get back to where i was back in the day. But don't you miss the feeling of downing a boss that brought half of group to its knees, after failed attempts for weeks? Having a guild, so well organized it felt like you knew them for years? I mean the game has come to PuGing anything and everything, I mean there is a reason its called a PuG. You can pretty much solo and come out where an end game raider is(or its coming closer to that).
I guess one big thing that brings a tear to my eye now days is seeing everyone riding "Winterspring Sabers". When i finished getting the rep for that damn mount, i think i slept better that night than i ever had in my life. And now the rep is so easy to get that everyone and their grandma could get one. True, that at a higher level its easy to kill the lower level mobs and do the quest quicker, but my point is, they need more challenges like how this one was before TBC. (dont even get me started on getting Grand Marshall/Warlord, though i never had it, there is a reason why). You bring some very nice points to this. Yes, I will say with all my gamer heart that I do miss the days that things were more of a challenge. So much so that I still play Ultima Online now and then. No game, to me, will replace how you felt when you defeated another player in a gank, or the feel of the everyday tension when you are out on your own trying to make money (and not trying to get killed). The guilds that I was involved with in Ultima were something else too. I have yet to see a guild so organized and so much about the 'family' in any other game today. It was more about friendship and less about loot (UO didn't have much loot in the day). Yes, I miss this very much.
I will agree with you that WoW is basically handing out everything to its players. When you work so hard for something then 1-2 years later its easy to get. That is just annoying, but it is how it is now. Every game is ending up to cater more to the casual crowd, more than just WoW. You've seen all the MMO's out there these days, none of them have the depth of a real MMO. Hell even the Nintendo Wii shows what sells a game/console. Companies found the sweet spot, so to speak, and are taking advantage of it. But I digress. Blizzard is catering to the masses with WoW, there is no doubt about that. But they still have so much love their game, which is why I believe it does so well along side of it's simplicity. Yes I miss the hard days, but at the same time I welcome the easy days too. Not because I want things so easily, but because I've accepted and realize to keep the gaming business going strong we needed this to happen to grow. And like I said before, life doesn't allow me to go back and play UO like I used too. I like how I can log in, do a couple of quests / PVP / dailies then log out.
I will always miss what MMO's used to be, but I've moved on and accepted what they are. |

Ultima Online vet here. Been playing since 1999 all the way up until 2008, now I play off and on.
I love World of Warcraft. It's not for newbies only, it's a legitimate game. A lot of veterans in the MMO world play WoW. For many of reasons too. Maybe because they like the art style, maybe their friends all play, maybe they don't have time like they used to for a game.
I enjoy it because it's a very well polished game with some of the best art direction and musical scores. The game caters to me, to someone that loved the harsh world of Sosaria with some of the most difficult learning curves in all MMO's. |

WOW will eventually decline.soon most likely
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/23/09 10:45:39 AM
If Ultima Online and Everquest can last this long (11+ years), expect World of Warcraft to last even longer.
Basically the only way WoW will be closed is if Blizzard decides they don't want to support it anymore. I highly don't see that happening. |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: Rise of the Godslayer Expansion Screenshots
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/20/09 2:12:07 PM
Age of Conan has improved by leaps and bounds since its release. It's a shame that it had to release so early and destroy the player base.
The graphics in the new expansion just blow my mind as well. It is amazing that this MMO can run decent even on my little machine. I would still like, however, for the game to release on the XBOX 360. Slim chance anymore. |

Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss Expansion Launches Sept. 8

Ultima Online is still chugging a long. Hell it seems to be doing better than half of the new released MMO's out in the market.
I'm sure I'll check this out. |

I'd like to try EQ2 out myself. Looks like a fun game. |

What was your biggest disappointment with Age of Conan?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 3/17/09 9:45:56 PM
Tortage was one of the greatest moments of Age of Conan. We really thought the game was going to be like this all the way through. 2. Small World. I remember getting to the main land and looking at the map. I was shocked. I thought it was so huge and was so impressed with how much stuff I will have to do. Then after about 10 minutes of talking to people in chat, I realized that the 3 lands that were highlighted were the only areas we would be visiting. I , again, was shocked. Age of Conan brought a lot the the table, but unfortunately most of it did not translate over well or we were just simply lied to. I kept my expectations down at least until the beta. The open beta was great. Tortage the first time through was a great MMO experience. Basically what it came down to is that Age of Conan was an unfinished game. The $15 monthly payment hits hard for a game in such a condition. |

I never had the cloth map, but I did have the paper one that came with The Second Age.
Man, it's crazy to think. Remembering the first day we played. All the things we have been through in UO. Just think, that game was really the only thing out there at the time. We had so many things to look forward to, the guilds and their battles. Now it's all just history to us that we look back at. I wish I would have taken more care of my UO paper map and could frame it. I know I made a mark to where all of my houses ever were placed in Britannia on my map. UO still has many features that most games today feel like kicking out just to help the player get involved. In UO, you really can explore. Hell, I still explore in that game til' today, there are still things I have not seen or things that are new to me...and I've played it for 10 years. |

As for the graphics, your right. They are re-doing the KR client and re-releasing it with SA. I'm interested in seeing what they can do with it. I would like for a possible Warcraft 3 like engine, where you can go into a slight 3d mode. But that might be stretching things a bit.
I wish I could try the real game, but the trials are not working.
