WotLK; the new MMORPG techniques being used. Blizzard did it again.

It's absolutely NOT a "first in the MMORPG field." In Runescape, phasing is used on farming plots so that each plot can be used by every player. You see only the crops that you have planted yourself. They also have dozens of quests where mobs or objects appear/disappear based on events happening through the storyline (and most of their quests are considerably longer than Blizzard's). Plus, when they do phasing, you can still see other players and they can still see you, which in some cases means your friends can help you with quests or activities they have already completed. When Blizzard can allow players to change servers at will (and for free), have phased content that still allows you to see and play with your friends, and use phasing to its full extent (not just where it's convenient for them) then you can talk about "crazy." Right now it's just dabbling with technology. |

The game has been this way for the last several years. I've been saying all along that it will die before it even makes it out the gate, regardless of whether it's a good game or not, but people still swear up and down it's going to be the next big thing. The devs have made it clear they have no idea how to manage a game. |

Anyone lose a lot of money trying to get a loot card?

Funny, I bet you weren't quite so "free market" when gas prices were sky high. Free market only works if people are honest and fair (which is to say, almost never). Truth is, as soon as these companies figure out how dumb people are, they will have us paying for every dumb little thing, and that will be the day that I drop MMOs all together. Like the OP said, it's already begun with the TCGs and microtransactions in some games, and it will continue to spread as long as people pay for it. |

This is the truth. What is seen in the video is a re-enactment of actual events, much like a movie that says "based on a true story." The events in the video did happen, but not as you see them recorded. They played out the scene again and added certain comedic elements to make it funnier. Clearly it worked, since not only has the video been seen by pretty much anyone who has ever heard of WoW, but he even has his own Achievement and Title in the game itself. |

For that miniature to have been damaged during shipping your box would had to have looked like it had a close encounter with a wrecking ball, to say the least. The shipper would literally have had to kick the living piss out of my CE box to damage anything within. Sounds like bullshit to me.
I bought a Collector's Edition as well, since it was the only box remaining at the store I bought it from, and I can confirm that the arm was removed from the body of my figurine as well. To me, though, it didn't look like it had been "broken" as much as it was deliberately removed to make the figurine fit. I assumed we were supposed to glue (or whatever you do with models) the arm on before painting it. I have no interest in figurines though, so I tossed mine out. |

TCG - SOE money grab: Looks like we vets were right....

This is what scares me the most. Gold-buying itself is destructive enough, but even worse is the microtransactions or item-mall style it encourages the developers to use. I shouldn't have to pay subscription and buy gold/items in order to enjoy my game, and I refuse to play any game that asks me to do so. |

You're absolutely 100% correct, and as evidence I direct you to the site of the new SOE MMO (designed to compete with Runescape) known as "Free Realms." The game was just announced a short time ago, yet they are already advertising their in-game TCG system with loot-cards, and have taken it one step further in that the "exclusive" loot cards are available only in brick-and-mortar stores. This kind of disgusting cash-grabbing needs to be stopped as quickly as possible. If this behavior catches on in the industry, we'll have every MMO wanting to charge us not only for the box and the subscription, but for every dumb little thing they can think of, and they'll want to charge us hourly for the privilege as well. For those who think TCG loot cards are a good idea: Where does it stop? |

Why do people relate newer MMOs to wow?

The age stereotype has been proven wrong time and time again, but people still delight in throwing around numbers with no data to back them up. With that said, aside from the false age bracket, you have the right idea. WoW is the largest MMO, and a large majority of its playerbase has played nothing but WoW and have nothing else to compare new games to. |

Um... duh? I don't know why people keep saying this like they're surprised. If a game is not as good as or better than the game I am playing now, I have ZERO reason to want to play it. It's that simple. I frankly don't care if the game is "new and shiny" if it's still a crappy game. Why should I pay to play a game that is clearly not finished? That's not the way the system works. |

I, too, could come up with a dozen or more people off the top of my head who are known trolls, but for whatever reason still have not been banned, and are still here trolling to this day. Thank God for the block feature, eh? |

This is why Warhammer PVE > WotLK PVE
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/24/08 9:23:49 AM
Why would you resort to bragging about PvE in a game that was supposedly so PvP-oriented? Especially in a game that encourages people to skip the PvE content by PvPing for experience? |

Best quests? Runescape, hands down. I know many people regard the game as childish, mostly because of the graphics or the community, but it does have a very deep and serious storyline behind it. Plus, the quests aren't intended to level you up, they are intended to be fun and interesting, and the rewards are just a bonus, which gives them an advantage over games like WoW. |
