There is a very simple and straightforward answer to the OP's question...

MMOs are dominated mostly by Chinese and Koreans, while other genres in Asia are dominated by the Japanese. Quite simply, the Japanese demand a higher quality product, just like everything else in life.

Of course, these are broad generalizations and there will be exceptions.

Nice try, first-posters. Just another yawn-ariffic Korean grinder, focused totally on anime-style combat. No WASD controls, and I'm forced to use arrows instead? No thanks.

Now I understand that yes I am just starting out and I can't expect to have any abilities yet really, but at starting level I would expect to at least be enthralled. Maybe that is because I am used to SWG space combat where it draws you in and I am just expecting to much from a different system?

I am also curious as to the crafting system as in most cases if the crafting system is good I can get hooked. Normally when mining an asteroid do you run the risk of getting attacked and killed, do you constantly have to fend off people or can you sit back relax and mine. If you are constantly being attacked how easy is it to run since obviously the points your using are in mining and not in the gunnery. Which the first guy I made he picked everything that added to gunnery.

The biggest thing that I should point out is that not only does EVE not lead you around by the nose, but it doesn't even show you what you could be doing. If there's something specific you want to do, then go do it. It's probably in the game somewhere, and the game itself is not in a hurry to give you a tour. Also, the largest part of the game is simply having options. It would be impossible to list to you here the number of options I have to sift through every day, and still give you an accurate idea of the scope of the game.

The crafting is a bit different, in several ways. Yes, when mining, you can be attacked. In fact, you could be attacked, quite literally, anywhere while doing anything, except in a station, of course. However, this depends largely on where you are and the group you're flying with (assuming you have a group). Being alone in high-security space is not terribly dangerous, but being alone in low-security or even no-security is pretty much suicide.

Also, warping away (running from a fight) can be extremely difficult, but again it depends largely on what you and your opponents have equipped. There are weapons that can stop you from moving and/or warping, but there are also countermeasures to defend against this. It's all a matter of knowing what you're up against and preparing for it.

Yes, because 50 players is SUCH an achievement. /rolleyes

All I can say is they are under the radar for a reason. You have picked, arguably, the four worst MMOs ever made.

I'd like to meet these people so that I could shake their hands. Gold farmers are a bane to online gaming.

They merely take advantage of poorly and unrealistically designed economies.

Just like China IRL!

Give me a break. /rolleyes

Yap, go to the official forum and read up all the class in their class forums, or you can try Allakhazam.com which also gives a good description and answer to some question to the class....

Really the problem with Locks isn't that they are too powerful, but that there is nothing you can do once they start attacking you. A warrior hacking your kneecaps? Pop a fear and chase them off, worst case scenario just run away. Once the Lock starts casting, you're already dead, even if you manage to kill him first. There are very few ways to remove the dots once they're on, and most of the ways that do exist are class-specific and/or self-cast only.

I couldn't tell you how many times I died to Locks who I managed to kill long before they could get me even to half health. There's nothing as frustrating in the world as killing someone and then watching them get the last laugh as your health ticks away at 500 damage a second.

You have to realize at this point that banning would be a sufficient means of keeping players in check. Obviously they will be screening applicants, so anyone without a sufficiently invested account will be ignored.

I think this system will work, as there are still a few games that use this system today. Runescape's player moderators are numerous, and while they don't always get it right, they do their best and they have real GMs to read the reports and check for errors. These volunteers are also unable to actually take action against an account, and are instead reduced to muting (although in this case, 24 hours) until the account is dealt with properly.

As was mentioned before, at worst a few players are muted temporarily. At best, SOE has killed two birds with one stone.

Agreed, and what were you doing (read: "suffering through") for the last 5 months when you weren't "addicted?"

As if copying the EQ-style grindfest games wasn't enough, now companies feel the need to copy PR tactics as well. I'm about sick of reading "such-and-such has delayed the release of their game because they feel it needs more polish." We all know that 90% of these games come out looking like crap anyways, no matter how much these guys "polish." If you had to DELAY your game to add more polish, you've already failed. These things need to be taken into consideration long before you have actually made the game. These companies need to stop doing things just because "everyone else is doing it."

They seem to be making bad decisions of an historic nature. Do not hold your breath on this one.

To be honest, this is what they've been shooting for from the beginning. I thought everyone knew that? There was a big influx of threads on this very forum when they announced AoC was going with an "M" rating because of all the teenagers going "OMFG BOOBS N GORE" and getting all excited.

Self-competition is still competition. Some people are perfectly happy playing Bejeweled trying to beat their own hiscores. Personally I think it's silly and a waste of time... how many stories can you tell about raping those colored gems?

I would love a MMO with “eventual” perma death and full looting. But I don’t think it will ever happen. Too many people just won’t get it. That the point is the game play not the high level fully decked out character.

I have to agree, even though this solution is extreme. The only way to show people that gear and equipment and levels and achievements don't matter is to take those things away and leave only the fun. When they have nothing else except the stories, only then will they understand exactly how much those stories are worth.

I never played the free trial, but I am guessing it's not part of the full game. Thus, similar to the way the actual game works, you are free to play as much as you like, until you decide you want to move further, at which point you must purchase the full game.

I disagree. I always felt that Nagrand looked amazing.

However, I have to say that if you haven't made it to max level yet, you probably never will. Also, as some of the previous posters have said, it's all about playing with friends. This game is certainly nothing special on its own... if you aren't playing with friends you will not likely get much further than you have in the past.

As far as I know, there has never been a compilation box for Guild Wars. You have to buy each box separately. The good news is, you don't need all the boxes. Just buy whatever box is the most recent and you'll be fine.

I'd try the trial, but before you buy, try other games like EQ2, EVE, LOTR, they all offer trials. After playing them all, decide where you want to go.

The funny thing with trials is that it only shows you the very beginning. With most games, this might be enough, but MMOs are a different animal. WoW at level 5 is nothing at all like WoW at level 50, and level 50 is nothing like level 70. While you may enjoy the trial quite a bit, in a week's or a month's time you may have changed your mind.

You forgot a step in there, which is to get millions of other people to do the same thing. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible. You can do the quoted steps whenever you like, but it will be like cutting a blade of grass when the lawn needs mowed.

Quite simply, yes. This is one of many reasons why I'm considering playing EVE again... no room for people who don't think about what they're doing.
