The game was scrapped when Flagship Studios went under. It didn't matter much, since the game was just another 2D Diablo clone. Dungeon Runners is the same thing and does it much better, IMO.

It's not griefing at all

I'm not surprised at all you would say that, since it's pretty much the #1 knee-jerk reaction to people who quit the game because of griefing. I have a way I want to play the game (which is to mine and build my own ships/modules and sell the extras) and can-flipping is specifically the harassment of players who play this way in the hopes that they will open themselves up to attack, with ZERO repercussion to the offending player. That's pretty much the definition of griefing.

Hmm maybe but still I would like to buy gamecards since I won't need to give personal info for that. And the costs of good credit cards like Visa aren't that low :P

You don't need to give personal info for most temp debit cards. Many of them won't even ask for your name. The problem with buying game time cards is they already have the time on them (under the current system, at least) which makes them a HUGE target for theft. Most stores refuse to carry them because they are so attractive to shoplifters.

More like "the game people play when they are broke, or can't get legitimate access to any other game" which puts it in the same category of games like Runescape and MapleStory. Also, the 10 million number is in all likelihood just the number of accounts made, which we all know means absolutely nothing.

You may have inadvertently blocked the page needed to register. I was able to register and try the game out just this morning and it worked fine.

No you don't. Canflip miners, ransom their rigged hulks, wardec some corp and extort money from them. Great fun and good cash. Besides, trading takes a few minutes a day and can make a TON of money.
Have an alt in a ship with passive targeter and shipscanner, scan a hulk. If it's cargo rigged it's worth about 180 mil, so can flip him in a frigte, watch him get mad and send his drones in, kill the drones and start shooting the hulk. Either blow him up for the nice explosion and chance of drops or ransom him. Non rigged Hulks I do for 50 mil, cargo rigged ones I do for 100 mil.
Find 1-2 idiots a day and you're making good cash while having fun.

As far as the whole hardcore vs. casual gamer argument goes I think these games have all turned into nothing but a time sink. All you have to do is log in and play and you basically get everything handed to you. You can have something be challenging without it requiring it taking 40+ hrs a week. The MMOADD/socially retarded crowd that rant about having a "real life" and not having time to raid or find another person to do something are mostly just lazy. Maybe their parents let them win at candyland too many times or something but I don't see any point in playing a game that lets you win.

While you're welcome to your own personal opinions, I want to take issue with being called lazy.
I work a full time job, I have a serious girlfriend and while I really do love MMOs, I have interests outside of these games. As a result, I don't have time for hardcore raiding and the like. That doesn't make me lazy. It makes me well rounded.
As to the shot at parents... WTF?
Iif you want to make your point, you could probably do it like a grown up without calling people names and attacking their parents.

I agree, the attack was just childish. Most people looking to get away from hardcore raiding games are NOT looking for "easy mode", they just want something that fits their lifestyle. Personally, I'm sick and tired of people expecting me to schedule my entire life around the guild's raiding schedule.

I have WAY too many important things to be doing, and I can't be bothered to schedule my game time. I just want to log in and play the stupid game when I have some free time. If people think that makes me "lazy" then I think people need to take a good, long look at their priorities.

As for the accusation of games "handing everything to us", I very much disagree. If anything, they are trying more and more to force players into spending their entire lives in these treadmills, which has caused me to quit WoW yet again (after having just resubscribed last week in anticipation of the expansion, no less!) after reading the changes that were being made to not only raiding but PvP as well. Separate badges for each level of raid? 25-man loot is superior to 10-man loot? Enforced Arena personal rating on EVERY piece of PvP gear? It's not we, the gamers, who are lazy, it's the developers. Rep/arena/badge grinds and repeatable content are easier than coming up with a genuinely fun game.

We already see this a lot with Rogues/Hunters/Mages, whether intentionally or not, and it causes their "killing blows" to be disproportionately high. A killshot system would never work.

I think what they need to do is a combination of total damage/healing done and a person's total contribution to the BG's objectives. For example, in AB, total damage done as well as extra points for people who contribute to capturing a flag (a huge burst of points to all those standing near it) or defending a flag (a steady trickle of points to those standing near it). Not only would this encourage people to contribute to the battle directly, but it would force them to stand near the flags as well, which is one of the larger issues with AB as a whole.

Of course, the area in which you would earn points would have to be carefully designed and the numbers carefully managed, to prevent leeching or "double-dipping" by going from flag to flag when you know they are about to be capped.

Not only does Blizzard agree with you, but they are more than willing to oblige. I have seen more than one forum thread or blog post applauding Blizzard for taking an aggressive stance on people making demands or whining incessantly in the beta. They've been outright banning them and giving their spot away to someone with reasonable input.

The next "big" MMO will not be a WoW clone - it will be something new and different that totally consumes its playerbase. Other factors why programmers aren't able to make good MMO's include the rush to market, unfinished games, broken promises, lack of fun factor, and primarily the feeling of deja vu.

Mostly this. I think the biggest issue plaguing our genre right now is that there are no more REAL developers anymore. Everyone sees how successful WoW has been, and it's attracted a massive following of what Penny Arcade refers to as "carpetbaggers" - businessmen who know that MMOs are growing and just want to cash in on the craze for a quick buck.

Blizzard has NO REASON to ask you for your password, ever. They can do anything they like to your account whenever they want. If they had simply asked for your account name and perhaps your real name, I would say you could at least think about taking it seriously, but asking for your password is a dead clear giveaway.

Feel free to ignore it, or (even better) forward it to Blizzard with a short explanation. I'm sure they'll get a good chuckle out of it.

I couldn't agree more. This is a dark time for MMOs, possibly the darkest in the genre's short history. WoW is a decent game, but still lacking in several key places, and it's obvious that Blizzard has no idea how to fix it. Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic developers, and the game certainly couldn't have come as far as it has in anyone else's hands.

I will likely play the expansion, but I refuse to participate in Arena and I won't hold my breath for raiding. If it's the same as it's always been (and it's looking that way now) then I will probably be finished with it after a month, if that.

What you have to remember (and this is part of why the genre is doing so poorly) is that EQ was a different era, and a different breed of gamer. There are a lot of dumb people playing MMOs now who don't like to lose, and they especially don't like being held back because they lost. The game companies want their money the same as yours, though, and since they outnumber us, they are more important.

So the game is dumbed down to make it easier for the terrible players, and they are allowed to catch up to the rest of us, which means the devs have to compensate even further to make up for the "white noise" of terrible players flooding the game, looking to complete content that is leagues ahead of them. Eventually, the people who are able to complete that kind of content are left out entirely, drowned in the sea of complaints about such-and-such being "too hard" for the masses.

Games are easier to make, because they don't need any REAL content, they just have to make people believe they are progressing (i.e. "achievements" and titles and stat-flooded "epic" gear) but not actually doing anything. The whiners prevent them from doing any actual work because it would stifle their self-esteem. It's a corporate dream.

Jewelcrafting for what? Vanilla WoW? It didn't have sockets to fill anyways. JC would be worthless in Vanilla WoW, since the only stuff worth having is gems and epic rings/necklaces at 70 (which can't be reached without BC anyways).

The highlighted portion is in reference to Star Wars characters, but none of the others are even mentioned. In fact, I think you just proved the OP's point. If the name isn't trademarked, Mythic had no standing to change his name, especially without warning.

With that said, I still think it's possible, OP, that you changed it without realizing. I'm sure we all do things like that every once in a while. If they did indeed change your name without warning, I'm curious to see where this will go.

Sounds like they know what's wrong with PvP, but I don't know why they didn't fix these things now (and get rid of this ridiculous Arena system) instead of "some time in the distant future".

The whole point of this game was to allow people to specifically avoid PvE if they wanted to. Now they're being told they HAVE to do PQs or dungeons or whatever else because they can't get good gear otherwise. It's ironic.

so you're accusing them of delibrately giving out extra keys to boom the gold sellers in the game so they can in turn ban them "to make themselves look good"?

I don't know about giving out keys or any weird conspiracy stuff like that, but there are plenty of other things they could be doing right now to take care of the problem. Instead, they'd rather make a public display of it and brag about how many bots they've banned.

It's like a coder bragging about how many bugs he's fixed. It doesn't really mean much if you're not making an attempt to fix the source of the problem to begin with.
