If anyone is still reading at this point. I do remember hearing that the sub isnt going to be the current going sub rate of 15. For a game like this i would expect it to be less.

What happens when you die?  How important is that really to drive push for funding? You think any other project went into that much detail in thei pitch?

Its just an example, I'm just saying MORE INFO.

/flame resistant suit on I guess

/drinks +100 troll resistance potion

Too late, KS is half over, far more specific information should have come out before the KS began.

While extreme details are a bit much to ask, we really know almost nothing about CU aside from a few basic promises and ambiguous outlines.

I have backed 3 KS now and CU has less information available than any of them by a significant margin.

How is a ks half over when it has 3 weeks left?

I expect most of the interviews hes doing is to reach out to more people.

I dont get the hype either.

all we have seen is ideas and promises.

they have a website that has nothing on it but them begging for cash and "principles"

c'mon.

they are at the most infantile stages of this game. they have ZERO hyet they are begging for cash

Thats the whole idea of kickstarter. You dont go in with a ready to ship product. You go in saying i have this idea and if you think its a good idea well give you X if you help to fund us.

Its hyped because the ideas behind it remind people of  Dark age of Camelot. Which many find to be one of the best  large scale pvp games that was created. Many people have been looking for that game for a long time.

As for the dev cycle it looks like its about 2-3 years based on the info on the kickstarter.

Side note, we shouldnt treat everyone like they are trolling even if they are. Overall, it is usally easier to give people the info that you feel the game is hyped for. Otherwise the community just looks bitter and unwelcomming. I understand that trolls exsist, but its far more energy to be snarky than it is to tell people why you feel the game deserves the hype.

"·The client will be DRM-free and distributed via Torrent."

Do you think they will do Access Key's?

Witcher is DRM free. Just saying

This isnt hate on ESO, however, i will bet a large amount of dosh that the RvR in that game is overegineered.

Camelot: Unchained has so much promise for a new style of online gaming...

There has been nothing said by Jabocs that points to something actually new, just a bunch of old ideas with some newer ones thrown together to update DaoC.

The one and only MMO announced over the last few years that actually points to something ACTUALLY new is Shroud of the Avatar and I have no intention of backing that game either despite some of the actual great ideas being spoken about, the overall game design doesnt interest me.

And there lies the problem for CU...its DaoC, a hard sell because the only people that thought it was good, are some of the players which wasnt many...no, it doesnt actually matter that it seemed like a lot for its time...because it wasnt. UO, EQ1, SWG, Lineage 1, FFXI all had more players and it was at a time when there werent many MMORPGers. It would be like a company trying to sell betamax 2 or Laserdisc 2, few would care other than those that had the first iteration.

UO came out before hand and was entierly a sand box game.

EQ was the god of MMOs at the time and nothing was going to beat it. Much like wow is now.

SWG came out years after DAoC orginally launched

Lineage came out before DAoC but was Korean game and was most popular over in korea.

FF11 came out after and i would say didnt do that well in the states either.

Kickstarter is littered with the old school ideas that people dont play anymore making multiple millions of dollars. In Exile is a clear example of great kicksarters of old school ideas.

Not trying to hate on the game, but look at WAR and remember what was promised in the game, and what was never achieved.  Probably a much bigger budget, a bigger dev team, etc.  I loved WAR while I played it, but the amount of unfinished things in the game really brought it down in the end.

While its great to hype games, kickstarters are a fad now, and Mark Jacobs hasnt done anything more than show hes a one hit wonder so far.

I really hope the game turns out to be great, have a lot of friends who would play this instantly if it was anything like DAOC was in terms of pvp.

I dont get your last point, if you hope something turns out like DAoC with the combat why not put money in and MAKE SURE that it comes out how you want it. Backing a project means you have a say in how things come out. There are some low tiers that are pretty minimal risk that allow you to have a hand in the conversations that will be going on.

For the people that are on the fence about this. May i ask whats holding you back? Is it because the game is mostly an idea with some art ? Is it the fact that theres only PvP in the game? Is it because of MJ himself?

I ask because we are early enough that there can be a discussion about things going forward. Mark has said in a few posts that he loved Darkness Falls. Maybe it wont work the same way in terms of drops and the like but it could be something where theres crafter nodes in there that have some value. What if a DF style area had a forge for making items from the matierls inside. People would have to fight over it to get to that area to make the items, perhaps making the items takes some time so now it becomes something that needs to be held. The other realms dont want you to have it so it becomes a fight wheil you try to protect your crafters.

While it does not include the pve mobs of the past the value is still there for players to attack and hold this area. So i ask what would you want to see/hear to make you change your mind.

I am on the fence because this game is just a concept. Nothing solid is done. There is no playable demo, etc. Why support something that MAY OR MAY NOT EVER EXSIST? VAPOURWARE is just that VAPOUR. Until there is something concrete, I will reserve my support or judgement.

Also, just having PvP is a turn off to most people and that is a fact.

May i ask if you supported other kickstarters ?

I also agree that pvp only is a turn off to a majority of people.

The reason most people dislike PvP is because it is done poorly.

Even DAoC had its share of problems with balancing, but it was a game founded on historical myths and legends, and was designed specifically towards RvR.

Reguardless if DAoC was designed with the RvR in mind, the systems was incredibly simple, which is good. What we have seen now is horribly over engineered games when it comes to pvp. Systems upon systems that just make it a total cluster-fuck. What people miss out on is the simplcity of it. Why was pvp in wow so pipular before battlegrounds? Because it was simple. However, some people dont like to just kill other people they like the idea of going to an area nad killing things. Some people DO enjoy that aspect of the game, while i do not understand the idea of farming a single mob for hours to get something. People do it and enjoy it and they are a large chunk of the player base.

I personally belive that we are not as niche as people think we are, and if this game funds im sure we will have alot of people.

10 days seems optomistic without some big reveal from the updates. Personally i think its going to be a bit closer to the deadline.

Please excuse my skeptimism or ignorance. I see this game has generated quite a lot of hype on the forums, and read in to some of the features, seems cool. I looked and saw they have received almost $800,000 in their kickstarter campaign. Wow! From there I searched for some sort of gameplay footage or something I can get a grip on what the game will look like or how their features will translate in game and havent found anything.

All I have seen is just some drawings, dev blogs of features they want in the game, and one 3D modelled face. Is there any game footage or anything I can't find? Or has this alone generated this amount of money for them?

Please don't mistake this post for sarcasm or a question of City State's integrity. I do like the sound of what they are talking about, but I'm confused as what they have shown so far, how has it generated $800,000 in backing? Am I missing something?

I think the best explanation can be spoted here on how, atleast the writer, feels about the game and why its made as much cash as it has.

There are also some walk cycle animations here for the TDD (im not spelling it cause ill just screw it up). The best info comes from Marks Founding Principals on why we are all so optomistic.

I am in a large adult MMO guild and there is very little talk about this game. Most people are interested in near-term games like TESO, Neverwinter, Wildstar and Darkfall. There are so many games going on right now that CU falls through the cracks.

There needs to be more coverage aside from mmorpg.com and gamebreaker.tv . On TenTonHammer and Massively it gets buried underneath all the other gaming news.

Hers the truth of it, despite CU hammering the forms there is nada on the news pages.

If this was an EA title 8 of the 10 features would be about it as was the case for SWTOR and GW2.

Thats what happens when you have the ability to hire gorilla marketing firms.

All they are saying is that the UI is made in HTML. A TERRIBLE decision because HTML and javascipt are SLOW, INSECURE and most importantly EXPLOITABLE even for the amateur script kiddie.

Take GW2 auction house. It is complete shit. Slow, unintuitive, buggy, had/has no features you expect: preview of weapons and items is missing, stats of items and weapons are missing. ( unless they patched it, i have not played in a few months. It was not there at the launch)

HTML GUI is the worst idea ever for a game. Good luck with that, one more reason for me to wait until this project is actually released ion 2015.

Our friends over at  City State Entertainment certainly aren't afraid of taking risks. I am impressed with their vision and willingness to try something new and innovative. This could be a game changer as far as UI's are concerned in the mmo industry if they pull this off.

No, GW2 uses it, Darkfall used it, a few others i cant remember. This is nothing new or exceptional. It's just a really bad idea.

Good news! theres no auction house to get bogged down by pages SQL querries!

Does this mean, in laymens terms, we will see add-ons at a level we've never seen before? If that is the case, I may be worried. Even what he said about the archers worries me....should I be worried?

It means alot of data is going to be aviliable to people to do what they want with as some point. It will allow field genreals to really disect the combat areas and look to see whats going on when. In terms of what it could do for the UI, that really depends on how much of the API they open. This would be something i guess would need alot of testing. I will say im surprised they went with HTML/Javascript over python/lua.

Im interested to hear about the back end data structure. Items and player info is going to need to be much more protected than what they are giving access to but the ability to sniff out those poackets and make speed hacks/ Radar worry me to some extent. Im sure they will get it figured out though.

because theres more to see from those games. Mostly what we have from CU is ideas. Ideas will get you so far but people like to see shiny things from the game.

WOW - can we stop the hype or at least wait untiel we see a beta test of the game. All that is going to happen is people will become dissappointed and bitter.

It's not hype (which has a negative connotation that something is unduely getting way more attention than it realistically should).

It's marketing, and player driven word of mouth, to try to inform and educate people who haven't heard about the project. Give people the knowledge to make up their own minds. Obviously if enough people don't even have the choice, it won't happen.

Those of us that like the idea want to get as many people involved as possible, to make it a better game. I see nothing wrong with that.

BTW how are you gonna wait for a beta, when people have to back it now to even get to that point? Besides, for those of us that want to be involved from the ground up in the design of the game, and ideas on implementation, waiting until beta would be too long. A lot of people are trying to get into the internal testing and alpha testing, so they can have their voice be heard in the development of the game (including the private backers forums).

Besides, how are you gonna say don't hype something during it's kickstarter? that's like saying let the funding of the project fail before you check it out in beta? lmao

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and looks like a duck - it's a duck!!!

It is hype - that is all it is. There is nothing tangible about the game other that a few pathetic technical demos that look awlful.

That doesnt stop other companies from showing products. Aliens Clonical marines was a glorified tech demo video and we got NOTHING like that.

People were screaming for GW2 years out based on the Devloper manifesto. I was very much looking foward to WvW, and while it wasnt what i wanted it was still fun.

Moving on, the people to target would be the people playing games that offered what the old school DAoCers wanted. Alot of DAoC players played GW2 for example, or tried to play TOR. You could try those communites to see if people still want to play them.

Other than that we still have to wait for some more things to do. Concept art to post around and say hey check out this cool pic, like so many other kickstarters do. Perhaps an artist could  render a keep or a house or something to show off that will help us get people interested and belive the game is something more than an idea on paper.

Dont annoy people too much. If you do this they are less likely to donate money. Mention to them that theres a cool PvP/Tri realm game and they should check out the site.

Beyond that we have to belive in City State to show some shiny things to entice people to come donate. The more CU puts out in terms of info the stronger and easier it becomes for us to rally people to our cause.

The idea is never to go to people and just be like HOLY SHIT YOU NEED TO GET THIS CAUSE I SAY ITS AWESOME. You want them to come to that conclusion so they pass along the info as well.
