Too late. My faint interest in this game has expired. |

Just pre-ordered the standard game at Best Buy today. Rhino mount is really all I wanted. CE didn't impress me. The cape, the ring and the map aren't worth another 40 bucks. edit: Boost, yes the Rhino is the pre-order item from Best Buy, it's on the back of the box. |

Originally posted by Sharpp No way this game launches as bad as Vanguard. I'm banking on some bugs and some crapiness, this is the same company that released AO Vanguard was a failure cascade. The multiple testimonials on this board alone convince me that the game is ready for release. Sure, some high end content may be absent, fine by me. I could care less if the power grinders hit level cap and sit around bored. |

Just to be a picky S.O.B....how would you hit anything on the ground with that sword, on top of that rhino? |

Brandywine and Landroval are the most populous severs, I believe. Landroval is the unofficial RP server. |

Someday, I'll log onto this forum and find out that Darkfall has actually released. That someday is a long, long ways off. |

As a Warhammer tabletop gamer, I have to say, that didn't look so hot. It REALLY looked like WoW. We all know WoW is a ripoff of Warhammer, but Mythic has gone out of their way to make Warhammer look like WoW. Some of the idle animations are WoW-ish, the low poly characters and weapons.....geesh.
I've defended this game time and again, but that video took some of the wind out of my sails. |

I tried the game in open beta and it failed to grab me as well. I downloaded the trial this weekend and I'm enjoying it. Maybe I expected too much from it initially. Overall, I'm having a good time. The FedEx quests are beyond bad. At one point in the Man starting area, I completely gave up reading the quests. I was being bounced around the hobbits like a pinball with all of the run around do nothing quests. Play it for no other reason than to say Man Minstrel. Man Burglar is good too |

I'm not complaining about the size of the download. I had Vanguard installed at one time. I know how big it is. The bandwidth allocated by SOE to download files from them is pathetic. sykotics, I don't know if you're trolling to be cool or if your reading comprehension is non-existent. I downloaded the 4.5 gig LOTRO trial in 1.5 hours, averaging 945 kb/s. Vanguard took over 24 hours and I was getting 41 kb/s. My computer doesn't suck, by any means. SOE still has many, many problems to iron out. Also, downloading 18 gigs in, you said what, 2.5 hours? Yeah, ok kid. |

I posted this over at the Vanguard forums: forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m
It will take well over 24 hours to download the Vanguard client. It took 1.5 hours to download LOTRO.
See a problem? Turbine wants you playing their game. They give you the bandwidth to download and get in immediately. SOE needs to learn from this. A 24+ download is a major obstacle that Vanguard does not need.

I certainly wouldn't lump it all on Smedley. He played a major part in it, but I would imagine LucasArts played a part as well. |

Would LucasArts allow it? They seem to be pretty set on CU-style Star Wars crap. |

The problem with a Harry Potter game is that the target demographic is getting older every year. 2 years from now, the Harry Potter crowd will be grown up and out of that phase. How many 20-30 year olds are going to play Harry Potter Online? Not many.

Just about every ex-UO player I've met has said that UO is a shell of its' former self. I never played it, so I don't know how great it was back in the day. Everquest 2 is solo friendly. I don't think you would ever need to group to level up. Of course, you would miss some content and have to grind, instead of running dungeons. A big noob friendly factor for me is the economy. I don't know if EQ2's economy is balanced any more. WoW's economy is still strangely very strong. I can start a new toon on any server and do fine. I don't know if this is still true for EQ2. Other than that, you should do fine in EQ2. It's not an overly complex game. Roll a Conjurer or Necromancer (pet classes) to start and get a feel for the game. |
