General: RTSGuru.com: Why Was Blizzcon 2012 Really Cancelled?
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/26/12 10:27:51 PM
Blizzard's end is nigh. Activision is slowly draining the life from this once-stellar company. It's only a matter of time before Kotick and Co. strip mine Blizzard and farm off the IP's. Expect an exodus of employees in 2012 or 2013. |

News Discussion « General Discussion 7/09/11 1:13:12 AM
SOE banked on CPU tech evolving into a single super core and lost. They never conceived CPU's evovling into multi-cores. Their engine was and is largely CPU based, which is incomprehensible, given the proliferation of GPU's well before EQ2 went into development. The EQ2 engine was and is terrible. Even if they get the engine right, Smedley will find a way to drive the game into the ground. He's batting 1.000 with his other games so far. |

I'm glad they released 1.1 before the 30 days were up. Seeing them fall into the balance tar pit and slowly sinking before they charged me for a 3-month founders price was a good for me. I really liked the game, but another PvE dominant game being balanced around PvP is another MMO I'm not playing. Reaver/Pally/Beast was my main, btw. Not Riftblade :) |

WAR. Mythic creating it. EA backing it with the cash reserves. The great backstory/lore that is Warhammer. Good artwork. I really expected Mythic to take everything good from DAoC and incorporate it here. Instead, we get arena PvP, tacked on open world PvP and aimless PvE all running on a god awful engine. The artwork is the only thing they got right and it was fantastic. |

If this game wasn't star wars..
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/08/10 1:13:06 PM
I don't think the story-based MMO will work. Once you run out of story, what are you going to do? Run an alt? How many times? They will have to crank out content much more consistantly than a WoW or EQ yearly expansion pack. More linear gameplay, unless they sandbox it somehow. The closest comparison right now would be DDO at release. Do a series of dungeons and once you've completed them, go back and do them again. It's not going to work. Good for casuals, but retention subs will be poor after everyone has seen the story and are sitting there waiting for the next installment. I expect a F2P model where you just buy the next content. Probably a year or two after release. |

Most definitely not a WoW killer. I'm sure they will try to rip off WoW every way they can. SOE just doesn't have talent quality that Blizzard possesses. Smedley will always be looking to milk the consumer to the detriment of the game. Activision are forcing Blizz down the same path, but they already have the player base to milk, SOE doesn't. Will it be a PC/PS3 game? If so, that's a death blow to the PC side. PC's have to cater to the console, crappy UI (hi Oblivion), lower quality visuals (still!!), kid-friendly auto aim junk. TLDR: It's SOE - choke on micro transactions incoming. Smedley is a moron, he'll kill the game anyway he can. |

How does it feel to be a moron? Mythic were passed on to Bioware by EA like a used condom after screwing up Warhammer. |

I guess now that Warhammer is on life support, Jeff has more time to screw around? Set sail for fail, Jeff. Don't ruin Bioware like you did Mythic and WAR. Of course, you're probably the janitor there. |

Juicer and Ley line Walker classes. Splugorth Race. Coalition States the enemy?
General Discussion « Rift 8/07/10 1:43:21 AM
The Juicer also died around age 30 due to the chemical overload on their bodies. Dog Boys FTW. Once a furry, always a furry.
Wrong Rift, by the way :)
Palladium's system was trash. Mega damage!! |

Midgard Skald is a great soloer. Not a true tank, more melee dps/support. They are the speed class for Mid, do good damage, have some CC. Everything is instant cast, very little downtime. The speed alone is worth it, as you can truck anywhere fast, fast, fast! Very good in groups and solo in PvP as well. Everyone needs a skald for the speed. Your mobility gives you advantages other classes won't have. They can be monsters in PvP. DAoC Paladin can be powerful, but requires spell twisting. This is a carry over from EQ1 and can induce carpal tunnel syndrome should you choose to undertake the class. There's probably a macro for twisting, but you'd have to ask around for it. They don't kill fast, but they don't die easily either. Not sure if they're wanted for endgame PvP or not. In the old days, Alb had to drag one along for the endurance chant, not sure if that's still the case. The Reaver gets lifetaps and is a tanky-dps class. They're not really built for full on tanking, but the can spec shield, so they have decent survivability. Understand that this game is very late in its life cycle. There aren't any groups going on pre-endgame. You will be soloing most of the way to 50. Play a class with good soloability and it will be more enjoyable. The true tanks really need a support class to truly shine. |

A TLDR post about why I quit, and why STO can't satisfy a veteran gamer

Granted, MMO's have deteriorated to the point that everything is designed to feed you another token to get some better piece of gear. Narrow minded designers with no concept of how to make a meaningful PvP experience are to blame. I played DAoC PvP because it was fun, not because of realm ranks. Unreal Tournament was a blast and I never received a single upgrade, hehehe. The game sucks, glad I didn't buy it :) |

The game is fine, but the PvP does suck. Your nerdrage about catering to casuals is misguided. Trash the PvP and the ludicrous battlegrounds, but the PvE side is plenty good. Catering to the casual is the smart business plan. Notice how WoW did it? I could care less if the loser gets a consolation prize and I'm confused why it bothers you so much? EQ2 was never designed with PvP in mind. It's tacked on and not very good. |

I've watched a couple of the youtube vids and I haven't seen any Capt. Kirk-style karate chops. If the ground game had cheesy Kirk Fu, I'd be tempted to try it out. It looks way to generic with everyone eating phaser shots over and over and over. Give the fans what they want! Sex with green chicks and double karate chops to the neck! |

I played it quite a bit this weekend and didn't have any crashing. Some rubberbanding, but that's it. Fun game, but I won't go out and buy it. Characters don't feel very super heroish and some of the power sets flat out suck. |

After being burned by AoC and Warhammer, I won't buy an MMO right off the bat. The sooner they release a free trial, the better. I've been hoping Champions would release a taster early. Downloading as we speak :) |

And second is how the damage numbers are displayed: You were damaged by Merc Fanat and lost 1.1000003 health. What the hell?
I remember fighting a group of folks in Shadowbane all having variations of IlIIIlll.....yeah, look at that. You couldn't call a primary target and they would all stack on top of each other so you couldn't really pick out the race/class either. It was the cheesiest tactic I've ever encountered in a video game. Good thing was, they still died Good to see the 'hardcore PvP' asshats are alive and kicking in Darkfall. |

Does anyone remeber Mythics Imerpator Online? And was anyone looking forward to it like me
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/12/09 11:31:14 PM
Was never interested. It was going to be a PvE-only game. After the horrible job Mythic did with PvE in DAoC, I had absolutely no interest in a PvE-only game made by them. The best thing about DAoC was the PvP. They were going to make a game focusing solely on the one area they were terrible at? Look at WAR's PvE. Bad. Granted, the entire game is bad. But, they couldn't even get the PvE right. |

Mythic lost my respect with ToA.....get in line pal. |

Why not re-release DAoC given WAR (and other MMOs) is so bad?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/12/09 3:11:45 PM
DAoC PvP was a blast. DAoC PvE was terrible. Reliance on buffbots was terrible. Reliance on tank/healer/dps/ENDURANCE REGEN to get anything done was terrible. Inability to solo when you wanted was terrible. No groups for your bard to join? Log out. You ain't soloing shit. Every boss is tank n spank PvE was terrible. You NEED a PvE base, even in a PvP game. Sorry. Sheep for the wolves and all that. Remember sitting in the dragon zone ALL DAY farming the mobs in a raid to level? Grinding at it's worst. Buffbots. I say it twice because it was doubly terrible to have to rely on them to compete.
DAoC had some great moments....all in PvP. It would need a serious makeover that Mythic isn't capable of doing. See the failure that was WAR for proof.
