The huge success of games like Dark Ages of Camelot say otherwise.  Most people don't want to be fed pvp, i.e. ganked by some tard that couldn't win a stand up/straight up fight if the opponent had both hands tied behind their back.  I noticed someone made a comment on this so here goes.  Yes, MMORPGs are about playing with a lot of other people online in a game.  Does that mean that the 75% of the people on that game, that want to be a part of the community, want to deal with the 25% retard population who insist on being rude to the extent of being an online stalker, of sorts?  No, but unfortunately, there are not many games out there that allow people to level up in relative safety so they can play on a level playing field with the jerk offs that like to go jump people that are less than 1/10th their level for kicks and grins.  I think it goes without saying that most of the games of this nature, predominantly Korean based, fly for about 6 months to a year in Region 1 then die off.  The retards run all the people off that would provide a good community with their |33+ 5ki||z and crappy attitude toward the community and when all that is left are the hardcore gamers, who hunt the arseholes down till they leave the server, what is left of the community can not survive.  RPKing of this type also stops the inflow of new players.  Who wants to join a game, try to learn how things go, but have to spend 90% of their playing time dodging the max levels running around in the starter areas.  Time for people to grow up.  Your in game rights extend only to the line where you trample on some other person's  in game rights.  If it is f2p/cash shop, you can bet you will see a ton of the arsehole  personality.  They are generally socially deprived and lower income or no income, in the case of the 14 year old quake fragfest one, so they flock to the next new f2p/cashshop.  In most P2P games, the people who are in game are generally a good community, after about 6 months, when all the bad weeds are weeded out, making comments on Xnewgame's forums about how they pwned everything and are now tired, though the reality is the 20% left after server wide hunts and gm bans due to hacking or cheating in some way are looking for a hole to hide in.

Heh wtf is up with that?  You quit a game because you found out the girl you were hitting on was a guy with a bigger slong than you?  I play female toons often.  I am a guy.  Why would I want to sit and look at a guy's arse while I am trying to enjoy a game?  Again, I am a guy, not a gay.  Do I abuse the feminine status of my toon?  No.  If someone hits on me I politely tell them they might wanna be careful reaching under this skirt.  Something might grab back :D

Hehe, I find it surprising that any one is surprised this happened.  Lineage 2, Seighardt server.  I was number 10 on all servers in the levelling competition and was gaining ground rapidly.  Server takes a dump for a week and I end up in the 1000's.  I am sure all our lineage 2 ob/launch veterans remember the login game :D

I played a fire ice tanker.  It was pretty boring after a while.   Fire Ice blaster would work pretty much the same way, I am thinking.  Ice patch the ground then aoe rain on the mobs as they slip and slide around unable to touch you.  Conversely, listening to my superhero league mates on vent when I pulled out the Fire Ice tank and started mowing down enemies in droves was pretty funny.  I am unsure if things still work the same as they did back then though.  Last time I checked, they had completely screwed regeners up, making them pretty much a dead build, changing toggles out for duration buffs.  I did not check the tanker but the suspicion was that the tanker toggles were set up the same way.  It made me sorta mad because my MA regener was really fun to play and was made totally unplayable.

I agree with Donna.

Hello, did you play other OPEN BETAS? What does OPEN BETA mean? "Another Closed Beta"?

I played many mmorpg's open betas, and it was like open registration through the site.

If you want to play Aion OPEN BETA, you need to buy preorder, suscribe payed site, or be one of 5000 free tickets.

It shouldn't be called OPEN BETA, it should be called Closed Beta v2.0

It's a shame of NCSoft for being so mean on money.

I was about to try a game and buy it, now i wont even touch a box of this game.

Peace.

Heh, I have to giggle at statements like this.  Those of us that know NCSoft, know they don't do open or closed beta here in Region 1.  They already did that in Korea.  What they are after here is payment for early access to their game.  They have been doing it in every game, just about, since Lineage 2.  Call it taking a chapter from Microsoft and advancing it.  Just like Microsoft, they release a finished yet not finished product and expect people to pay for it and provide beta at the same time.

The Open beta keys were available from Fileplanet on the 1st, which you would have been told at the time you downloaded the client. I got mine on the 1st and registered it to my NCSoft account the same day. I was never in closed beta and haven't pre-ordered, so I'm afraid you're wrong.

The Open Beta key was only available to SUBSCRIBED FilePlanet members.

So if you didn't spend any money somewhere your not getting in into their so called "Open" beta. It's more like "We only want previous CBT testers, Pre-Order Customers and PAYING FilePlanet subscribers" Beta.

There beta approach is stupid and unneeded. I do have a payed FP account, but I won't be playing this game only because I'll be playing Fallen Earth.

Hehe, it should be obvious by now to anyone who has had a game from NCSoft before.  They dont do closed or open betas.  They make people pay for early entry to their game.  Been doing it since Lineage 2.

True, most large scale pvp demoralizes into zerg vs zerg.  However, I have been a part of some pretty large groups that made zerg killing a lot of fun.  The important issue here is how command handles squad combat.  In a zerg community, one person calls the targets and everyone jumps him.  In a military style community, each squad leader calls a target and his group focus fires on that target.  Military beats zerg.  Why?  Because in the same time it took the zerg to kill one person, the military style unit has killed 4.  The only problem lies in overwhelming numbers.  General tactics calls for a 3 to 1 numerical superiority in order to assault and invade an enemy strong point.  Combat effectiveness of each squad starts to deteriorate as losses occur.  If the zerg has sufficient numbers to soak up the win/loss factor, they win.

While I understand what you are saying, real sociopaths never "grow up" and there is no known treatment. At best they improve their masks(which allows them to interact with society) and all too many end up in politics or other positions of power.  At worst, they take a lot of innocent people with them on their way out.  Thats what makes "gun free zones" so dangerous to law abiding citizens.  Its like having high levels rampaging through newbie areas. In an armed society, there would be less such incidents.

John Lott has done extensive research on the subject. He has written a fascinating book titled More Guns, less crime.  I highly recommend it, if you are interested in the truth of the matter.

www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/493636.html

Hehe, totally agree.  England, gun free zone, i.e. only the military have firearms.  Even the police have no firearms.  However, gun related crimes are on the rise there.  Criminals don't care that they are breaking a gun law.  Their breaking other laws too so why should adding one more to the list be a concern to them.

Heh, it's not hard with his level of replies.

You say, with good sentence/paragraph structure that he is living in some fantasy land where running around beating 3 year olds up for their candy is acceptable and he says did not/did so  cut and paste entries.

I just can't understand how having a massive amount of names and twisted body models(since I doubt you'd see more than that at that number of players), bound together by a horrible server lag(not even master engines like L2's one can hold an exaggerated amount of players without ability/movement lag) and people running around doing random abilities(just spam w/e does damage, since most of the time it doesn't matter) make people happy?

I'm not against large-scale combat(which should be a normal number like 50-75) , but it's pretty retarded when people demand a huge amount of players zerging each other in(no matter how big the place is)a crowded lagfest. It removes any kind of personal skill. Hell, if you're versus personal skill(by playing the "MMO ain't FPS, dude" card, which is another lame thing, because there's much more to a RPG than numbers of players),then you'll realise it removes any tactics, like targetting certain players or moving to certain places to use certain things, because you'll simply can't.

It also seems like a masochistic type of gameplay, since I don't see how you can have fun by running around, spamming skills and hoping you zerg faster the other side(that, plus your entire screen being full of character models, instead of the landscape and other elements, like a RPG should be).

Most people turn their graphics down to bare minimum for large pvp fights.  Most guilds will remind you in vent or whatever internet voice chat program you are using to do so, prior to a large fight.  Most games even have a hard coded hotkey set up to minimize the settings so you don't have to go to a set up screen to do it.  PvPers are not interested in pretty bushes and trees and grass.  They want to fight against each other and will use the most basic settings on the most intense gaming systems to get an edge if they can.

That's low end.  :P  Also, other than setting your resolution, the in-game settings have no effect on the playing of the intro video.

I'm running a Benq at 1920x1200.  I also run a Sony Bravia at 1920x1080

You are without a doubt, the biggest retard I have run into on these forums.  Intro movies are set to be run at a certain resolution, usually 1024x768 or 1280x1024.  The more you stretch that out, the worse it becomes.  Why don't you do something useful, like pack your mommy bought computer up and leave the rest of the community to it's game.

Heh, I was in on Lineage 2 closed beta, open beta, and release.  I can honestly say, NCSoft has a lot to be desired in the launching of new games and since Aion feels so much like Lineage 2, it's not anything new to them.  Same engine different wrapper.

Come drive the POS car 2009, it's got a new body, but the same POS engine and transmission and handling as our POS car 2004.

My biggest complaint with them stems from the fact that they held an OB contest that was hindered by their horrendous network setup.  I went from number 10 and climbing after week 2 down to into the 1000 because the server I was on experienced a week long bout of the couldn't help its.  Their answer, to forge ahead despite the fact that Seighardt server had suffered so heavily while the other servers were still up and running.

Despite that, the chanter class looks interesting to me.  Takes me back to memories of playing my Paladin in DAoC with the way it plays.

Thank you for reiterating what a child-like mentality you have.  Could not come up with a decent conversational counter so you sink to did not/did so statements.

I'm surprised by the amount of people saying who the developer is doesn't matter. Of course it matters.

If you bought a car and it turned out to be very reliable and last a long time, wouldn't you first consider that company for your next car? I would and do. And if you buy a car and it constantly has problems and costs a lot of money to keep running, wouldn't you avoid that car company in the future?

Same for TVs, PCs, Appliances, mattresses, airlines, etc etc etc. So why in the gaming world would it suddenly be normaly to not judge a product by it's company. Just like every other market that exists, a video game company is likely to produce the same level of product time and time again. So when you start noticing that SOE puts out crap, or EA puts out crap, you quickly learn to not waste your money on crap.

Unless of course you don't use your brain and just keep saying "Well maybe next time it will be good, oh guess not, maybe next time, or next time........" That makes far less sense then not buying from a company who puts out crap.

But hey who is to argue when the country that many of us post from had an economy collapse from people and companies doing stupid things repeatedly, and then the government bailed them all out so they could do stupid things again. Can't expect people to use their head and learn that when a company screws up to be done with it and move on to a different one.

What you are saying is true in some sense but not true in others.  Let's take a trip down mmo memory lane.  Wolfpack studios build a game calling it Shadowbane.  They host alpha and beta sessions to iron out the game and it is extremely well received by it's niche.  However, unknown to everyone but UBI and Wolfpack, the production/hosting company is lurking in the background getting ready to pounce.  2 weeks before release, UBI steps all over the game and basically breaks it, opening it up to hacks glitches, unplayable situations, etc etc.  Is Wolfpack at fault here?  Well, I guess you could not say they have no fault, but in order to finish the product, they needed the money and UBI was offering.  The contract behind that backing could have been handled better but I think UBI used the lure to get their hands on another good game so they could ruin it.  Unfortunately, due to what UBI pulled off, Wolfpack games does not exist anymore.  No other company, to date, has built a game with the world altering ability for the players that shadowbane had.  Some of the core members of Wolfpack are now in a company called Stray Bullet games but they keep making promises about this and that and the other but have yet to produce anything new.  I am guessing this core members group was part of the reason that UBI was able to rape Wolfpack with the contract for Shadowbane.

To the other side of the fence.  Sony, sony sony sony, Online, online online online, Entertainment, entertainment entertainment entertainment!!!!!   I don't think there is are very many people that can say good things about this companies P.C. gaming.  Playstation seems to do well but I hate consoles due to the fact that interaction is limited via controller.  Let's face it, 105 keys and a 5 button mouse beat ABCXYZ, left 1 and 2. right 1 and 2, and a trigger with gimp joystick controls.  Their P.C. gaming market however is infamous for taking a good game with some flaws and tweaking it till it completely sucks.  Points a finger at Brad McQuaid, aka lead designer of Everquest and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.  That anyone thought Sigil games was a stand alone entity was really doubtful.  That McQuaid managed to completely destroy two games and be removed from the projects by Sony due to his one-sided tweaking to make certain character classes the god of the game should be proof of that.  That even after he was gone, Sony continued to make bad decisions about character tweaking in the games and while on the sides lines was destroying the Star Wars legacy along with a couple of other small companies games says that what McQuaid was doing was coming from Sony but due to massive catcalling from the audience, they felt the need to publicly make a statement counter hiding the fact that they desired to screw it up in the first place.  Yes this is a company I would never buy a game from again.

There is no such thing as "griefing" or "ganking". They are simply excuses made up for one reason or another. It's all in your head.

Think of it this way, when you kill NPCs, are you "griefing" them? Are you "ganking" them? Of course not. There is no such thing as "ganking" or "griefing". Learn not to make excuses and grind harder.

From another post you made.  First, the npc's do not pay to play on a game so they can have someone 50 levels higher than them come randomly or purposely kill them.  It falls under this title.   Your player rights only exist so long as they do not infringe upon some other person's right.

To grief :to do an act with the intentional reason of not breaking some hard coded rule, i.e. safe level limits or safe areas, that is designed to cause the other person anguish making them spend time and/or money moving to another spot or log off.  IMO, the gaming company that let's this go on needs to just die anyway.  Punishment should include a bill in the mail for all the payment of one subscription period for all parties who were affected by the little baby who feels the need to go pick on people are new/restarting their games.

To gank:to kill players, either with large numbers vs small numbers(also termed zerging) or to attack players much lower in level than your character because the characters affected do not stand even the remote chance of reciprocating.  The first part of this is going to occur no matter what they do.  Weak personalities gravitate into large groups because they feel the need to be accepted and do not mind having their will subjugated by the mob rule so they can feel accepted and be a winner.  The second part can be hard coded to be stopped, but because the developers are either too lazy or part of that crowd that likes to do these unsportsman like things, allow this to occur in their game.  Both sides of this are part of what is wrong with society today.  Fair play and good conduct by players used to be the accepted norm.  For instance, you would not find adult football teams showing up at youth league football team games just for the gratification of their egos.  Albeit you still do not see those sorts of things in real life but the same can not be said about online life.  IMO, sports conduct should be adhered to in gaming.  It is, after all, considered a sport, as it fought so hard to obtain that status by holding conventions and lan parties specifically with this in mind.

So in response to your postings, grow up.  If you are a child, dunno since you claim to be 20 something, I feel sorry for your family.  If you are actually 20 something, grow some balls and step out of the crowd.  It seems you want to be a leader by speaking out but lack the actual commitment to do the right thing.  Next time you see that "noob" you want to have a giggle and ego stroking episode about, remember that the world is watching and judging you by the way you act online.

Can't touch that one from that used to out, I forget the name now.  You play music using the base keyboard keys for strokes.  ASDF JKL; and space bar.  Was actually rather fun, even had competitions and what not but was hosted in Malaysia so bandwidth was horrible and was hard to get on sometimes.  Anyway, 4 key combos is way too simple.  Will get real boring real quick.

For all those of us that don't like Microshaft Internet Exploder, you will have to use this pos to verify at file planet.  Mozilla and Google Chrome can not pick up the authentication code from File planet due to something inherent in their programming that is blocking the image.  I tried disabling everything, including my norton's, and still got the invalid code text.  Opened exploder and went right through.  Just a heads up.

heh judging from the account sign up procedure, it sucks completely.  Tried two different accounts and no confirmation email.  Even tried to get it to send the confirm code again and still no email.  Can't play without confirmation.

My 2 cents.

First, this whole is he a moderator or not is moot.  He is a manager for the community, i.e. the forums, emails, phones, etc., and therefore has the authority to make moderator calls on the forums, as he is ultimately responsible for what happens on them.

Second, this is an American company, who's countries recognized official language is English.   Not Eubonics, Spanish, Mexican, Spanglish, etc., and therefore is not required to learn those languages to support those communities.  Does this make it a good thing?  No.  Customer Support is just that.  Hire a spanish speaking person.  I am fairly certain Bioware or Lucas Arts can afford it.

Third, the game is still in development.  Full customer support does not have to be available, i.e. they don't want to have to deal with translating posts with languages not understood by the current staff because of the clutter and possible translation errors which we all know the various translation engines make.

Finally, turn your television on recently?  Mexico is almost a hostile country right now due to the fact that drug lords are trying to take over the government.  Most of South America has been hostile due to the same reason and the fact that American forces have made several forays into those countries to oust the corrupt leaders who are pumping drugs into this country as fast as they can.  It would stand to reason, this being the case, that spanish being spoken on a development forum might be considered as possibly hostile and/or a liability to the company.  Who is to say the guy wasn't actually hooking up with people from Stateside to set up a drug shipment?

But, basically what it all comes down to is this.   A company reserves the right to do business with whomever it wishes.  The choices made by said company can and most likely will have major effects on whether it stays in business or not, but that is their choice.  I am pretty sure, being that Bioware and Lucas Arts are both internationally renowned companies, that foriegn language support will come, but later, after all the development in the recognized official release language game has been hammered out.

p.s.  I took spanish as a second language in highschool, because I lived in Texas at the time so I knew I would run into it.

I knew this one was coming from before Beta.  There was a least one guild that I had dealings with, whom were known exploiters and hackers from Lineage 2, that said they were going to go to Darkfall.  There was another group of known hackers and dupers from Shadowbane that were going there as well.  I wish they would just make it common practice to submit these people who are caught and banned to a list.  They move from game to game, destroying the communities with their can't win so cheat attitudes.
