Ridiculous.

I've never seen, in three sided pvp, the two bigger ones pick on the little guy... I've never seen it, I've always seen the two smaller ones, pick on the bigger guy, until the tide changes and it goes back to normal.

In two faction pvp, you will NEVER experience:

*Backdooring a fight in progress

*Being flanked while already in a fight

*Having three realms stand off against each other, waiting to see who engages first

*Competition that isn't just back and forth, like you get with two factions (provided the landscape is good)

~~

Not only is there not one benefit of two factions, over three factions - that I can think off... but it's a too simple structure, and I don't think the OP has ever done any serious pvping.

I got mine!

But then I realised, who am I kidding, no I didn't.

I think due to the fact is was easy to get 100% on the application, a large slice of people did it, and thus... chaos.

Hahahahaah, now that it's coming! ...In two years time.

From a believability side:  it's 'just ridiculous' that there are no traitors, defectors, or racial-minorities loyal to the place of their generation's birth than to that of  ancestors.  That every Breton serves Emeric, every Altmer serves Ayrenn and so on.

Of course, that's not *entirely* true.  It has been confirmed that there is an Argonian quest-giver in the Covenant lands, so this restriction, this 'people and territories are seperated' only applies as an absolute to the PCs.  NPCs get to break that rule.

Ergo, a strict sense of 'believablity' is not the reason they did it this way.   What I believe is the real reason they went this route:  Matt just feels more comfortable balancing the AvA conflict by locking the players to given sides according to racial picks.  He believes it makes for a more sporting wargame that way :p

I agree with this.

Matt Firor is doing the only thing Matt Firor knows how to do. He cant think outside that limited DAOC formula

He reminds me of the "Awesom-O 4000" who can only think up movie ideas that feature Adam Sandler

IMO he is phoning the whole game in

You realise ESO is a "pvp" game right? Domination style RvR...

Do you understand how tedious that gets with only two realms? Do you understand how exciting it is with three?

You've never played an RvRvR game have you... =(

Never experienced a fight in a bottleneck, when all of a sudden the third realm comes from behind... It's a great model, stop being a carebear, it's revolting.

That type of PvE gameplay would only make sense If Zmax had chosen to design an MMO without a 3-sided racially separated war.

That is exactly my issue with their design decision. Of course it is only my personal impression, but a 3 sided racially separated war is a terrible idea for TES.

Also, I am not ranting against the game, just questioning parts of its design. I am really fine with all the rest, just the race lock and the issue of not being able to play with my friends who would like to play their race of choice bothers me. That's all :)

I dont see any logical explanation as to how pve would suffer from RvRvR. If anything, it would make it better.

it's a unique buy to play method, where you download a form and fill it out, then you email it over to bethesda. They send out a surgeon, likely from the mountains of columbia somewhere, and they harvest one of your organs, it's likely a choice you ticked on the form you filled out. Once extracted, they put it on ice, stitch you up and fly over to bethesda to complete the transaction.

Then you're put on a waiting list for a physical copy of the game itself, and soon on your way to playing it, assuming you haven't died to infection or blood loss.

It's all right here, http://www.zenimax.com/legal_info.htm

Maybe they are trying to hide the fact that it plays just like any other generic MMO that has been released in the past 10 years. Level your character through quests, do some group dungeons on the way, reach endgame, where you have gear progression and 2 paths to acheive that progress: pve and pvp.

The reality is, most MMOs at launch have a severe lack of depth, and mostly consist of generic endgame dungeons and battlegrounds. More in depth features may get added later on when people start whining on the forums, but I'm not holding my breath. Buying this at launch and expecting to get a fully fleshed out MMO is simply not going to happen.

I am keeping my expectations as low as possible on this game. In fact i'll treat it as a single player title (worth buying for progression from 1 to 50), until I see some solid features that make me want to pick this game over any other MMO. If it is built just like any generic MMO, I'll still get my money's worth from the storyline and progression up to endgame, but don't expect me to hang around any longer if that is the case.

Why do so many noobs think they're "hiding" things. If anything, they don't want to overhype, and that's a GOOD thing. Look at archeage, people play on korean servers, all the hype is lost, we know everything about the game, and many people aren't following it anymore.

Another reason is to hide your mechanics from other developers, do you know how much funding ESO has? It's Alot. (Swtor had huge funding too, but they squandered it all on "high class" voice acting). This is a AAA mmorpg afaik, they can't risk another developer taking their mechanics and putting them in their own game.

Again, they dont want to advertise a game in development, which is what it is, anything a tester is seeing is builds behind what the devs are at, and that's many, many, many builds behind what they will get to come release.

I also dont understand what you mean by "in depth features"... or how you assume this game wont have any of these "features"...

They've said somewhere themselves, that they're doing a "true beta", and good for them! Im sick of all the mmo's that have come out recently who use their betas as a way to get a little extra cash and marketing, and then release a broken game because they didn't do any specific phase testing.

Perhaps with their beta model, they will indeed get their chosen testers doing specific things over and over to make sure the game works in the end.

Betas really do need to go back to how they used to be long ago, where you were given a developer objective, ie. Try to climb this terrain, try to glitch this, try to break that... Instead of what they seem to be these days, where thousdands of people are just playing a "beta-release", and then the game remains in "beta" or months after release.

For developers I am sure pvp is great far easier no Ai, no content, no progression, no nothing. Just some interesting maps and some objectives. Not sure why anyone would really want to play pvp in an mmo as it is inherently unbalanced. I preferred many xbox style pvp type games as they are balanced and more interesting.

I lol'd

Clearly you've never been in a guild that stomps on peoples virtual faces ;D

Bro. Do you even EVE?

ES is rubbish, this is an mmorpg. Yes you will like it.

If ES is rubbish why did they choose this IP to make an mmorpg out of instead of something else or just making one up?

Why did EA/Bioware chose star wars? There's already an established market for the product.

And why is there a established market for both of those IPs...? Prolly cuz its not rubbish...so your saying Star Wars IP is rubbish too? I mean its your opinion of course but ya an opinion.

I'll just pretend you aren't comparing the star wars franchise, to elder scrolls :)

Star Wars is more popular and have much more background but how can you deny ES also has a significant amount of popularity among gamers and a well established lore?  To call it rubbish is an insult to some of us.

That's fine and all, I enjoy some good lore, the dwemer myserty is great. I'm just saying ESO will be better than the single player ES games, even if only because it's an mmo.

which we already know can be made into an MMO.

people keep saying this but i kinda want to see some source info for it, cause i dont actully agree with it.

Oh, right...I forgot there are people that dont know about those things called sandbox games.

People dont know that there were faction based games that didnt have magical walls closing off faction lands...and I am not going to name them all because almost every single faction game ever made did not have DaoCs level of developer hand holding.

People dont know that there were games with factions, that allowed you to actually choose the faction AFTER creation and even allowed you to switch sides...like...SWG.

People dont know that there were games with a massive world that wasnt split into three closed off lands...like, ooh, almost every single other game ever made.

People dont know that an MMO can actually allow a player to train and level up any and ALL crafting...again, if you dont actually know that MMOs did this...I can see why you think the way you do...you dont know much about the genre.

You know the one thing I havent seen...someone actually make a long detailed list of how TES is not a sandbox game and that it fits into the themepark DaoC RvR where the entire world is at war yet is compeletely safe except in the magical world of neverland behind invisible walls.

that is not a answer it is a long winded sarcasm,

a sand box game is a game that you can build withen, very loose definition but non the less the core of it, people do argue on the definition but meh, i personaly do not agree that game you can have a player based economy in makes a game a sandbox, ( otherwise WoW would count as one) ( if you dont agree with my definition, meh like i said its a very argued subject.)

so in short your sacasm didnt offer any actual useful input, and in my personel definition of a sandbox TES has never been one.

Umm, sandbox is sandbox by definition. You know the box of sand children play in?

A sandbox game is a game where you can do whatever you want and still make personal progress.

SWG was the last sandbox I played. If you killed stuff, you got xp, if you crafted you got xp.. etc. You could be a harvester, a killer, a crafter, a shop owner.. some people put themselves up for hire to do things, some people asked for tips dancing in the cantina...

Sandbox. Do whatever you want, always succeed.

ES is not a sandbox. Wow is not a sandbox, eso is not a sandbox, etc. They have Sandbox ELEMENTS. :) and that's OKAY.

I laugh at all these people who think ES was "sandbox". Haha!

Repeatable quests, predictable dungeons, a fixed skillset, and RNG crafting - Is not sandbox.

this games PVE will be absolutely nothing like Daoc, Daoc was more like EQ pve minus the raiding (originally)

this games PVE will be more like ES meets GW2 than anything. even the pvp combat mechanics will be nothing like Daoc's.

the only thing this game has in common with Daoc that i can tell so far is the factions and the open pvp being segregated to one giant zone.

this game wont even have battlegrounds like Daoc had.

More of this nonsense.

Have you played the game? Tested it? Wait! Are you from the future here giving us your prophetic words!?

Where are you even getting any of this information from? Whether it turns out to be completely true or not...

If they do put it in as loot - it should be on a timer-  after which is dissapears back to it's dungeon etc. location.

You can't have more than one Wabberjack, and you can't have only one person per server shard able to have it permanently.

It would be great if more devs had these kinds of ideas.

Timered weapons, or absolutely unique weapons that drop on death (with a timer incase they just log off forever) - (or they need to feed the weapon with x amount of kills to sustain it)

uhhhhhhhh!
