Hey people, I have an even better employment opportunity for you!  I need some guys to whitewash my picket fence and I'll pay three times (3X) what mmorpg.com pays!!!!

What the heck, just thought I'd throw that out there.  Is mmorpg.com the Tom Sawyer of gaming sites?

We are a completely independent site. The only money we have is the money that the site makes and we have no outside investors. As a result, we don't have a large writing budget. We have always been a volunteerand community focused site and will continue to be in the future.

I dont think she really had knack for this type of job. And her arrival at the steering wheel of mmorpg.com community also marked start of prosecution, banning, post deletion, post moving ... and other form of non-freedom of speech solutions.

On the end it resulted in many regular posters dissapearance - either from being permabanned or annoyed by not being able to post in open manner , and say what they want to say

I hope that new community manager will believe in freedom of speech , and opportunity to express your oppinions in free and open manner. Things that once upon the time made mmorpg.com man destination for mmorpg players

Here's the thing,

MMORPG.com has rules. People who don't follow the rules will have their posts deleted and or be warned / get a ban. It's that simple, and it wouldn't change no matter who the community manager is. Posts criticizing a game (for example) are ok, posts that bash a game without backing it up, posts that attack other people and the like simply won't be tolerated and frankly, shouldn't be.

Scenarios is just more battleground bs with a different name.  Up until EA's take over and pr blitz RvR has always meant massive open world pvp.  Slowly but ever increasingly they have been changing the definition of RvR to mean something more scenario oriented.   In press releases and demonstrations RvR is now about scenarios mostly and nothing is mentioned about open pvp unless someone presses the issue directly.   With what over 12 scenarios that we do know about in WAR not including the cityseige scenarios, it seems most likely that, for those of us expecting open world pvp, the rug has been quietly pulled out from under us.

Actually RvR means the active fighting of one realm against another.

WAR accomplishes this in a number of ways, including scenarios. Because fighting in scenarios helps your side in the overall RvR battle, I would count it as RvR. The problem lies in thinking that this is the ONLY form of RvR.

Having had the chance to play the game a couple of times, I can tell you that the game's RvR goes way beyond the scenarios and encompasses almost all aspects of the game. Focusing on this one point seems to be taking it out of context.

MMORPG.com is sorry to announce that our long-time Community Manager Laura Genender has moved on from her post here at the site and has taken over duties in the community department of a development studio.

While we here at the site are sad to see Laura go, we know that she will excel in her new post and we wish her well in all of her future endeavours.

In happier news, we can now also name our new Community Manager. Richard Cox, who worked most recently on the community team over at EA Mythic, is a former Staff Writer and Moderator here at MMORPG.

We know that Richard is a great addition to the MMORPG.com team, and we look forward to working with him now and in the future.

MMORPG.com's World of Warcraft Correspondent Darren Bridle files this report that takes a look at what Blizzard could learn from their first expansion, Burning Crusade and apply to the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King.

Blizzard is set to release a new expansion for its world renowned MMO and questions need to be answered. How big do you make it? What type of player do you cater to? Are there more raids, more mobs, more loot! However the real question should be, “What have you learned from The Burning Crusade?”

What didn't work

Location location location!

It’s clear that moving away from Azeroth, away from the lands of Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Orcs and the like, was possibly a wrong move. It was a brave adventure that almost paid off. Moving away from traditional character backgrounds and giving a detached feeling from the mainland really was its failing. Wrath of the Lich King (WOTLK) has a big bonus; it’s ripped straight from Warcraft 3 and contains proven lore and strong character backgrounds. Die hard Warcraft fans will instantly feel comfortable on the new continent of Northrend. The team working on WOTLK is huge and contains personnel that have worked from as far back as the original game, this is really important in terms of deciding what works, what doesn’t working, and keeping a consistent feel across the expansions. But what about arriving there on day one, along with 9 million other people…

IGN has reported that Flagship Studios, the company behind Hellgate: London, has closed its doors, leaving the future of the game (and others in development by the studio) in question.

Flagships's Community Manager, Taylor Balbi, has revealed, through sources, that all Ping0 and Flagship Studios staff have been made redundant. Employees were notified at a company meeting and subsequently informed that the offices will be officially closed on Saturday. Balbi went on to reveal that three of the studio's top brass dug into their own pockets to provide 30 days of pay to all employees.

Word of the studio closure reached Korean distributor HanbitSoft, leading to the release of a statement regarding intellectual property control and the subsequent clarification by their American lawyers that included the following sentence: "It is unfortunate that Flagship turned down additional investments HanbitSoft offered to make that would have allowed it to keep its doors open."

What is it rexactly that you think that I should lose my job for? The interview that I reported was the interview given: bottom line.

I do appreciate your calling for my job though. That's always a great thing to read.

If this turns out to be the case, and I honestly can't say that I was given any indication that it is, then it contradicts what I was told in my interview.

You got the interview almost entriely in Mark's words. For example: “We wanted to make our Capital Cities the best cities in any MMO. We think we’re doing that, but it came at a price and that price is that the other cities aren’t going in the game right now.”

If they've changed their minds since I spoke to Mark, that's one thing, but what exactly would I have to gain from putting out false infromation?

Hope that qualifies as a "full explanation" of doing my job.

This news is a fucking disaster. Reducing to 2 capitals will probably make people roll Chaos and Empire careers leaving the other two depopulated. Also, its been said that has a quick fix you need to fight and win the war in 2 campaigns before you get to lay seige to Altdorf. That is just plain bad IMO. It reduces the entire game down to points. The lore and logic of taking ground and keeps and strategic points on the map goes out the window.

What effect does a captured keep in the high elf area (just for instance) have on the defence of Altdorf for christsake! Everything in the two campaigns lacking cities has just been reduced to so much victory point grinding material.

Some people seem to think the missing classes will be added after launch, but Jeff has already stated that is still under discussion! Under discussion!! With the usual post lauch fixes to do, does anyone believe Mythic will have the time to redo those four classes?

Where are you getting yoyur information? I only ask because I hadn't heard anything about winning multiple campaigns or any comments from Jeff Hickman.

In part two of his interview with Mythic Entertainment VP and General Manager Mark Jacobs, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood reports that the game will be implementing Punkbuster and cutting four capitol cities and four careers from the launch features of the game.

Punkbuster

First, Mark Jacobs, the VP and General Manager of Mythic Entertainment, announced to MMORPG.com that the studio has partnered with well-known anti-cheat company Punkbuster in an effort to make sure that their upcoming RvR game (Warhammer Online) is as free from cheaters, hacks and the like as possible.

“As you know,” said Jacobs in an interview, “we have fought a long battle against hackers, cheaters and other assorted slimeballs who think that it’s both fun and fair for them to have an advantage over other players.”

I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I also don't want you to get your hopes up. No, it has nothing to do with beta, or any other date for that matter.

I'm all for improving the game, it has issues that need to be worked out, but I would like to point out that the people who actually do the developing on the game are different from the people doing moderation on their forums. Shutting down the forums wouldn't shift any manpower over to development.

On Wednesday, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood spoke with EA Mythic VP and General Manager Mark Jacobs about four different announcements from the studio. Part One announces a name change for the company from EA mythic back to Mythic Entertainment. Tomorrow's part two will reveal three more announcements concerning Warhammer Online.

Mythic Entertainment. It’s a name that we haven’t really heard much of since June 20th, 2006 when the company known best for their Realm vs. Realm style MMORPG Dark Age of Comelot and their upcoming MMORPG Warhammer Online announced that it had been acquired by publishing giant Electronic Arts (EA). After the announcement the company went through a name change and a re-branding, including a new logo, that saw the studio re-named “EA Mythic”.

Today, MMORPG.com learned that EA Mythic will be going through another transition as the company reclaims the Mythic Entertainment name.
