Sigh, why even start threads like this if you know it's just going to cause a flame war? I'm totally fine with OPs oppinion, because it's just that (however the title should be changed to "why I don't like Aion" instead, as your sole oppinion does not make the game bad). I just don't understand why threads like this need to be started when all you really need to do is say to yourself, "Well shoot, this isn't my cup of tea", uninstall the client, and get on with your life. Seriously, people are calling the ones who are defending the game a bunch of childish fanboys, but what do you expect from people who actually enjoy the game? Yes, there are people who genuinely like it. Is it really that surprising? |

Pretty much the same concept. Elyos vs. Asmodian. Well, technically Elyos vs. Asmodian vs. Balaur, lol. |

I'm not going to bash people for not wanting to get ganked. By way of rifts, though, think of it this way: Suppose a rift were to open near your hunting ground and, indeed, the enemy faction happens to jump through it. If they are a bunch of equal level players (as rifts apparently open into equal lvl areas) you can't just assume that you're going to be the victim. I can pretty much bet you that you'll find an equal number of players on your own faction that are looking for a good skirmish just as the rift jumpers are. This is basically RvR afterall. This leaves you with a couple options. You could run while the people on your side are busy holding their attention or you could jump in and help them fend off the invaders, increasing the chance of success and quite possibly getting a little fun out of the situation. You never know.
As far as the abyss is concerned, I'd like to think that the same applies there as well. Again, it is basically RvR. If people of your faction are in the abyss with you, I'm pretty sure most of them will be gunning for PvP. Even if you arent in a legion or even in a party, it's not like they would just leave you for the wolves if they happened to be right next to you. Quite the opposite, actually. They would make a b-line straight for the enemy player/s in hopes to score some abyss points. Strength in numbers applies to solo players too sometimes. |

Top 6 Upcoming MMORPGS's - AION made the list but barely
General Discussion « Aion 4/17/09 3:28:51 AM
Characters look like pussies in Aion, do they? The Character creator is so impressive that you can make a character look like yourself. Not just the face, but the body size as well (you wouldn't call yourself a pussy, would you?). I just have a hard time understanding people who deem games as such if the characters in them aren't ugly and their body size isn't proportionate to that of a silverback gorilla. |

I think the real question is: Just how big was that dragon thing that killed it? Was it just really high up in the sky, or was it even bigger than the Colossus? If it was intended to be bigger, then that's pretty scary because the Colossus is the biggest (possible) raid boss I've ever seen in an mmo, and to have something that's even bigger, well, damn...
On a side note, I think it would be cool to have to take the Colossus down in collaborative stages. For example, having a large group of people distract him in order to keep the damage off of the people who are taking out his legs which would make him fall over in order to let yet another group attack a vulnerable spot that only appears after it has fallen. It would be pretty agrovating to organize a raid like that and get each group to do their part, but it would be a pretty sweet challenge to say the least. |

Five races and counting! Which one(s) appeal most to you?

The Tindremene race looks the most interesting to me. They remind me of the Roman Empire, which is cool. I'm also digging the Khurite, as they look like Mongols, and Mongols are cool, lol. |

I'll be playing Aion for sure. I've been following it for a long time now, and everything that I've gathered about it thus far hasn't dissapointed me. DF, on the other hand, doesn't interest me in a big way TBH. But even so, I'm the type of person that has to try everything out for myself, so I'm still going to try out DF....if it ever releases.... |

Indeed. I highly doubt that one person can constantly maintain hero status forever. Hell, when you enter the abyss, it notifies everyone that's in there of your presence. You might be able to take a whole party down by yourself, but if you get swamped by a couple of legions, I doubt you'll live through it. Not to mention that EACH SIDE has a hero, so it's not imbalanced. Sure, if you spend a lot of time pvping in the abyss, you might benefit more than someone who doesn't play as much. But if you spend a lot of time in there, you have an equal chance of racking up a lot of deaths as you do kills. If someone manages to spend a lot of time in the abyss and come off with huge kill amounts and maintain little deaths in doing so, then I think that person deserves hero status. |

There is also DOMO and Holic, but they're only similar in looks. I can't say for certain that their playstyles are the same. |

I'm not so sure the game will have only a small amount of lore. It might not seem like there's much available to us right now, but the game hasn't even been marketed over here yet, it has a main string of story driven quests kind of like FFXI (given this, I'm willing to assume that it has some sort of lore backing the story), and it's also a new IP, so it's not going to have 40+ years of lore already layed out for it to work with. If it becomes a "successful" enough franchise for the developers to want to work with it some more in the future, then they would obviously have the opportunity to build upon the lore that they've already created beforehand with this game. I'd kind of relate it to watching Star Wars: A New Hope for the first time. You don't know what your in for untill you go see the movie and experience it for yourself first hand (assuming you're old enough to have not known about Star Wars before seeing the first one). It didn't have the amount of lore it does to this day, but with time, it grew (and is still growing). Even if the lore of the story quests was translated and available to me, I'm not sure I'd want to be informed before I got to experience playing through the game first (at least the story quests).I'd liken it to (uh-oh, another analogy) knowing what happens in a novel before actually reading it. You just need enough information to get you interested in the game and try it out (the back of the book). |

Not sure if anyone has an extra buddy pass left floating around, but I've always wanted to try this game out so I'd really appreciate it if someone would be willing to throw one my way.

Well, I don't know if it was the lvl grind that got to a lot of legit players, but the gear grind that really broke their spirits. I played L2 since prelude to around the end of C5, and I made it to 70, but I was still in B grade gear, and I was lucky to be in B grade at all, because my friend decided to set up an afk shop with a helmet saying it was an unsealed dark crystal helm while he was asleep, not thinking it would work, but low and behold, someone bought it and he gave me half of the money. Given the situation and as desperate as I was at the time, I didn't feel guilty taking it. I just convinced myself that the dude who fell for it was an ebayer. This isn't anything but speculation on my part, but that's what the game did to me. Even though I refused to buy adena for rl cash, I still sought out unconventional means (by a legit players standpoint) to get ahead (well, technically my friend did, but I guess I could be considered just as guilty). Maybe this was a sort of Robin Hood mentality that made me ok with the act in the end, but upon retrospect, maybe that guy earned his 75 mill legit, maybe by taking risks and overenchanting dark screamers all day or something. Sigh, I don't really know where I was going with this... |

Well, if it makes you feel better, you can get different types of wings that both look different and give bonuses like increased flight time. How you get them is a question I don't have an answer to, though. |

I'm waiting for Aion. I'll try Darkfall if it does come out, but to be honest, I'm not into the art direction at all. Granted that gameplay is key, but even so, the art direction and overall design of a game can be another form of immersion. For me personally, I have a hard time enjoying a game when I don't like what I see (visually). Some people don't like games that have a more Asian design like Aion, but for me, I just cant get into the uninspiring generic fantasy setting that I've seen time and time again. |

If someone doesn't want their character to look "girly", it's as simple as making your character the way you like instead of how others have made theirs, such as the ones shown in a lot of the videos. I also doubt that everyone is going to churn out that kind of character, but if someone does, that's their own business. I don't think that it's just the basic appearance of the characters, though, but also things like movement. Attack animations, emotes, etc. They do have a sort of asian inspired feel to them, I wouldn't dissagree there. If that's the big problem, then I wouldn't know what to tell you, because I doubt they'll change uppon NA/EU release. Honestly, though. Would it kill people to have more of an open mind about other cultures?
On a side note, the male Elyos dance emote is totally a white mans dance. |

Originally posted by stayontarget I think a few of the quests also have cut-scenes woven into them. There will also be hidden quest ( quest that are dropped from mobs ). One of these hidden quest has you going deep into the woods looking for an axe stuck in a tree. when you get near it, It will go into a cut-scene.....you pull the axe out....it flies from your hands and lands in a river.....A ghost of an old man appears above the water holding the axe and says to you.........End, "I won't spoil it for you."
Now that's entertainment!
But seriously, the fact that they have character intro cinematics should at least be a bit of a sign that story is a big part of this game. None of that "make a character and then just get plopped into the world without explanation" stuff. |
