I'm totally a Temporal Flux, or an occasional one. I play at night when everyone in my house asleep, since that's the only time I get some time to myself. I have a 2 year old who sometimes wakes up at night. I go to put him back to sleep, but if he needs comforting, it'll take me longer. I've fallen alseep with him so many times. And he always wakes up just as I'm about to do something, never when I'm just running around or just chatting, Also, I love the Neo. I think I know a real life one too. In community college I used to be in the gaming club and there was this guy, who was always there, no matter what. I don't think he even went to class and some semesters, I did't think that he was even enrolled. |

Not a bad game! Now, here's some questions...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 1/31/12 7:45:59 PM
I downloaded and played on Dawn Island for a while last night and I'm pretty hooked. So far, I really like the game. SInce I've been playing while half-sleep, I just have to wrap my head around pretty much everything. Like it took me about 10 minutes to figure out where my crafting equipment menu was -- I just went to bed at that point, since my brain had cleary shut off. :/ I like the Diplomacy game, alot. I can't wait to collect more statements. Is there a way to debate against other players? I bet that would be cool. A text game that I used to play offered a system just like this, so I'm pretty happy to see it implemented here. I think I'm going to have fun collect clothing and stuff. Crafting is OK. I found a guide to it that I'd like to read later today. I'm not a blonde, but for some reason crafting has me feeling like one. I get it, but I don't get it. Are is there strategy invovled in getting higher grade products? I guess I'm not seeing it now as I don't have a bunch of skills. I think that's about it. I'm a Necromancer as my adventuring class, which seems straight forward at the moment. After my trial is up, I'm hoping to head to the main game and find a nice place to build a house. Just curious though, is it like free form building? Or, do you supply the materials, throw them in a plot and up springs a cookie-cutter house? I chose Artifcer as my crafter class, with lumber and stone as my primary and secondary harvesting skills. I skimmed over another post that said those would be OK skills for house building. I figured that I can just buy whatever else I need. Lastly, RP. Is there any? When I RP, I prefer to do so in a text-based game. But, I'm just curious. Thanks! |

Originally posted by remyburke I can definately again. Another reason why I left was because I couldn't play this game without multi-tasking. For example, when mining, I'll cliick a iron vein, then read something on my other moniter or continue watching a movie while I waited the minute or so to finish. Its not terrible, just not for me. |

The only way I could stand a crafting mini-game is if it was different for every recipe and it was a puzzle or something. For example in ATITD, if can cut gems. Every gem is different and you have to figure out a way to cut it to match the pattern that you needed. Or, Puzzle Pirates, you had a different game for each craft. How well you did in the game determined the quality (I think) of the finished item. For this game, its still the same game over and over, but at least the game is fun. |

There is also Eternal Lands. Its completely free. They accept donations and also sell cosmetic things. You can also buy items, but those same items can be bought with gold. You can learn all of the crafting or harvesting professions and I think, save for a few items, eveything is player made. |

Thanks for the review and the comments from Wurm's staff. I am an old player and I think am pretty interested in the graphics update. |

I've played wurm and there are some good spots to be had. I about 30-40 minutes to away fromt he starting area of the paid server and found vast areas of nothing but trees and mountains. A road went through this area and there was access to water and was close to a mountain for rock and ore. I picked a spot, chopped down a bunch of trees and mine a little bit for rock. I think they give you starter tools or you craft crude tools - I can't remember which. But, I was able to get my cart going and build a 1x2 stone wall around it keep it safe. I can't remember how long all of that gathering and building took me, but I felt accomplished afterwards. The only downside to the game (to me) is the 1st person view. I really don't like that for some reason. I got over it, quickly though. |

Anyway some of the games I see on here are not bad, iit just seems that the poster just didn't like them - which the OP asked us not to do. Anyway, the only game I can think of is Fury. It was terrible! |

So far, I like the game and espeically the social and roleplaying aspect of running for player government. I am always a crafter/harvester in this type of games. I really hope things get evened out. As of now, its no reason to level anything other than to provide myself with gear/food - and I'm not even high in profession enough to do that! I do have a question. Does all the crafted items start at level 15? If so, that will really suck.
Thanks! |

What does "exploration" in a MMORPG really mean to you?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/26/12 3:16:53 PM
I agree with much of what is posted. I usually play games with crafting and harvesting. So I enjoy roaming around finding deposits of resources. I used to play ATITD, which rewarded exploration (or people who run around alot). There were rare mushrooms and herbs to find, idenitify and harvest; rare ore to dowse, beetles to find and breed. It was pretty fun, if you are into that sort of thing. Right now i'm in the Wakfu open beta and its pretty cool so far. there are rare ores to find and secret dungeons and challenges to find. So far, I really enjoy it. |

Anyone actually try out and make sense of the crafting? |

I don't really care for the character models, but the game play should be awesome. Especially if they improve on HnH's gameplay. This is the type of game that lots of crafter types have been wanting: crafting, terraforming, etc... I know I can't wait to play it. |

I have been playing Eternal Lands on and off for the past few weeks and its not bad. Its completely free, but they sell cosmetic things that you can't buy in game to support the game. I think they sell a few other things, but if if effects gameplay, you can also get with in game currency as well. You also have to pay to have a 24/7 merchant bot. I play free and I haven't had any trouble selling/buying on the market channel. I like it because you can be a pure crafter if you want to. Or, go back and forth between combat, harvesting, crafting, etc. The only bad thing is that its point and click movement. I got over that after aw hile though. |

I've actually tried and liked most of the games listed. I only picked Utlima or Isteria, because they are the only games that will let you build communities and I think they also have active roleplayers around if I feel like doing that too. I did enjoy Wurm and I subbed for a few months. $5 bucks a month isn't bad at all. But, it was too slow for me. I remember my first "camp". I build a stone wall around the cart that I'd built. I felt really accomplished and was going to start leveling the woods around me and build a little cottage. But, that game is really, really slow. Back then, my son was a newborn and slept the day away while I played, now I don't have much time. So, as a really casual player, I can see myself getting really getting frustrated fast. I may give it a shot and see what happens, though. As for the other games, I do like them, but I either got tired of them fast or never got into them. Rysom, I never got into. EVE, I love, but orginally, I played the game for the corp drama. I can't remember the rest, Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I will revisit a few other games. |

I'm not sure which one of these games to play! I've played both in the past and actually like them. I love crafting games and I am regular in ATITD. But, I'd also like another game to play when I'm not in the mood for ATITD. I've been looking at Xysom (sp?). but, I can't afford to buy the game at the moment. Well, technically I can, but my funds are needed elsewhere at the moment. I'm happier with the "free client, then 14 days later start the sub" type playing right now. Anyway, I also tried Mortal Online. Well, I tried to play it, but it crashed a bunch and never could load my character's from the startup screen. After 2 days of that, I uninstalled. I don't know how I would fare in a open PVP world, anyway. I've played EVE, a nd I like it, but its not my thing. And lastly, I've played EQ2, which I actually like. I had a sub there (ironically, I got a sub AFTER it went f2p. I don't like the free classes at all!) But, I canceled it for the moment to try something else out. I mainly want crafting and adventuring and to be able to switch up at any time. I want housing that I can customize and I want to gather, craft and sell stuff. I started doing this in EQ2. I was going to turn one of my homes into a shop, but I keep reading how crafted items are not selling. Even though I'm doing this for fun, I still don't want to waste my time. Oh and I've played Haven and Hearth and really like it. I think they just did a world wipe, which I'm not really down for. So, I haven't been back recently. Now, since I tend to be long-winded, there's my point. I want:
I've just finished my trial of Isteria and I'm on to another trial of Ultima. I did like UO when I played it before, but I was just kinda unset that I couldn't try the housing system before my trial was up. I understand why they have it set up they way they do, but I still wanted to!
Thanks!

Forgotten features of a golden era: long travels
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/22/11 10:11:55 PM
I apologize, but I didn't read a bunch of this thread. I don't like travel times. Maybe the first time around, since I can experience the scenery or oif I'm a crafter and I'm looking for resources. But, I'm pretty busy and if I only have limited time to play, I'd like to play and not sight see. For example, I've been messing around in ATITD. I actually like that game. Last night I wanted to go trade with someone, but they are a 20 minute run away from my home base. Twenty whole minutes of running. That specific time I had other things to do and luckily those things on either on the way, or not that far from my path. But normally, a 20 minute run would deter me from trading. ATITD is different from a bunch of other games, so I don't really think I can compare the travel time in that game to the travel time between zones on other MMORPGs. I was just using that as an example. Long story short: If I want to play now, I want to play. |

The only game I can think of is Istaria, You can play for free with a human character. You just can't own land, but you can be any type of crafter. I've been reading that some players will buld and rent/sell you a plot of land though. I'm not sure of the process of that though. I've only been playing for about a week. |

Why I will not be resubbing to STWOR
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/20/11 8:48:26 PM
Have you tried Haven and Hearth or Wurm. On both have the things you mentioned. The only thing is the graphics. H&H is 2d and Wurm's character models are crappy. Otherwise great games. |

If I remember correctly, people would game the system by putting LP (learning points) into their villages, then when they die and their land passes down to the new character, they would just decrease the size of their land and reclaim those LP. My memery is shot, so that could be wrong though. But, I'm down for perma death. When I played I had like 2 characters. My main crafter stayed in the base while the hunter/gather when out and explored, collected, huntered, whatever. I really didn't care if that one died since I had my main and of course, you get back a bit of the dead characters skill. |
