PVP in from the actual game seperated areas? So no freedom and suprises and living and breathing world at all? No way of  a social system growing naturally by itself?

Unfortunately the game is a dead born child.

What a bummer.

I understand the fear of PVE players getting KOS all the time in a open world free pvp game. But this would be easy to fix, just by installing hard penalties for murder, such as getting flagged and marked as a penaltyfree kill with the option to drop loot und loose a greater amount of experience, maybe also the threat of deleveling. Lineage 2 is doing it that way and its awesome. Its the most exciting mmo ever made and it has no zoning at all. Just free and open and addictive, exactly what a mmo should be.

A real sandbox which could be considered a virtual world or a real life simulation would have to be able to change and grow forever, otherwise the limited complexity would lead to bordom sooner or later.  In order to create such a game of neverending change  and growth the current ways of updating a game needs to be changed completley. Such a game have to be made of modules which can be easly replaced by newer versions. The graphics must be a seperate module, the landscape, the movement, the ways to interact and so on. To create such a game woud require a totaly new way of game design, which currently simply isnt available, especially not in the heads of the producing companies. But I am 100% sure, one day it will come. One day someone will come and realize the potiental to make money with such a game and invests a billion dollars to realize it.

One thing is for sure: no sweet little teddy-bear style toons, but blood and honor.


This is like if our prayers have been answered. The greatest MMORPG of all times is coming. If they manage it to pass the spirit of The Elder Scrolls on to an Elder Scrolls Online, the nature of gaming itself will be transformed.


 


MMO´s fail because they are repetetive, boring and simple minded and those who spend the most time playing them, win, not because their skills improve, simply because they did the boring and simple minded stuff over and over again. And another reason why they fail is, that in most MMO´s ones actions doesnt affect the environment at all. The worlds are static and so deadly boring. There are no cities to conquer, nothing important to achieve. And if there is something to conquer it happens in some instance, so again, it doesnt affect the world one is living and fighting in.

Playing is about fun and fun is about getting suprised by the unexspected.

Only Lineage2 did understand this, thats why one could conquer the citites there, but it was only a beginning. Sadly, they didnt develop it any further, on the contrary, Aion was a big backstep.

The basic idea of this game might be great, but there is one problem and it cant be fixed:

It´s funcom, the fail-company.  They are the best there is in ruining great ideas. Look at  Age of Conan.

I give it a 99,999 % chance to fail.

 And your computer couldn't have run it for the next 10 years. I fail to see the "wonder" of seamless when it causes the game to lower its standards in a vast number of areas. I remember AC1 and SW:G and the vast empty tracts of land.... Wow, so immersive. Oh look, a randomly generated spawn point for a randomly generated monster type. THIS IS EPIC.

Ever played Lineage 2 ? There you can see what the term "seamless world" realy means.

If the industry still doesnt know what we would like to play, they are either ignorant or dumb.


Here are the keywords again (and again and again....):

No zoning / Instancing (your enemy is in another zone/instance? LOOOOOL)


Actions of the players must have  a real impact onto the world (it has something to do with responsibilty and meaningful acting. Why should I do anything when it simply doesnt matter? We want to conquer the world or at least be able to do so.)


Heoric movement in fights (no one wants to identify himself with a physical disabled character not even the physical disabled real people, its about being a HERO you know?)


Will there be a seamless world or still 100 x 100 m sqaure - all instanced?

The MMO world has become what it is today, because we live in a world, where only one thing matters: money.

We do not create what is best, we create what gives money.

That attitude has turned our world into a garbage dump, full of crap that no one needs.

If you wanna have different MMORPG´s (we all know what kind of games we are talking here about), you have to change the world first, cause the games we have to endure today, are nothing but the natural outcome of a world, which believes in the money-whore.

First change yourself, then change the world, then you will get other games.

You are right. Everything else blows, but the fights are boring, no styles, no acrobatics, no heroic movement in any way. How could they integrate so poor fights in such a greate game.

That being said.  Capitalism sucks, and is not condusive to a progressive society.  Only supports fear of innovation, and trampling on your neighbors for profit gain.

Let's start a new economy so we can make good games just for the hell of making good games, not to play tug-o-war with subscription numbers.    Who's with me!

The people of the companies, who do produce online-games, do not understand what we want. They do not feel it, they simply dont have it in them. They are not looking for that thing we want, the thing we already know so well in our hearts and minds, they only care for for money on a short-notice. They will never give us the worlds we demand. They do not understand, that this would fill up their pockets for a very long time with money beyond imagination. Give me the necessary millions of dollars and I will create you a game, where the boundaries between reality and virtual reality will blur.

You are right with everything you wrote. 99 % of these so called MMORPG on the market are crap. The only real MMORPG I know, with a completely seamless world is Lineage2, where everything you do does have an impact on the entire world. Unfortunately the grind is insane. Every kind of grind is boring and crap and a waste of time.

I will never again buy an instanced and/or grindbased game, when I am looking for an MMORPG. Unless the industries gets this into their heads, no money from me.

There is only one game on the market, which really gives you that feeling of total freedom and one big persisting world without any instances and this is Lineage 2. There you can do and become whatever you want to and you can conquer and rule the entire world as the King of Aden. Unfortunately the koreans made it a grind nightmare.

Btw, if the hype turns out to be a lie, I wont play not even try Darkfall anyway, because after all the lies of all the companies throughout the mmorpg szene I have decided not to play any game, which is made by companies who are lieing to those they want the money from, because I am realy realy tired of all this disrespect.

That's hardly fair. I could say "all there is to watch on TV are soaps, reality shows and sports" and I would be right, but that's hardly the point. There's a much broader scope that can't be indicated with such a simple list. You'd almost need a branching tree diagram to list all the things to do in the game, assuming what we've been told is true.

 

Yes but i don't have to describe it any further.

You're still out killing monsters(with or without quests, who knows?)

You're still ganking the other realm whenever you see them, and then having the random guy from your faction kill you.

You're still just getting materials to craft armors and buildings.

That's all it really is.  The problem is, the DF fans have hyped it to be something much much more than that.  And it's really not going to be.

 

This is exactly the point. It´s always the same in all existing mmorpg´s. But this will change, when a real big fat global player realizes the true potiential of the mmorpg commercial sector. Then someone will invest not only some millions but hundrets of millions of dollars in a breathtaking game, where you can be and do all the things we had ever dreamed about. I anticipate that this will happen within the next 5 years.

Darkfall wont be such a game.

Otherland, what an awesome novel and a brilliant idea to use it as an inspiration for a MMORPG.

Oh how I wish, that this dream would become true.
