Star Trek Online: More Exclusive Screenshots

Looks like Rom's son Nog set the stardard for Ferengi in Starfleet. I wonder how many have some action on the side, watch your ships equipment. |

Things are seldom as grand as you imagine them. I can see your point, it would have been fun to have this or that, and not to mention Klingon PvE content equal to the Federation. There are a number of things that you haven't touched on that I would have liked to see, but the fact that they aren't present will not get in my way to see if there is fun to be had with this game. You seem very passionate about what you hope for from the IP and Cryptic, which is both a good and bad thing. Clinging to the standards that the game should be in your eyes will cause you no joy at what they have created. Just as I felt when the Next Generation came out, No Kirk, Spock, Bones or Scotty, it will be a waste of time and a failure. I had a closed mind, but I did end up giving it a chance and in doing so found that it pocessed the same spirit that I had grown fond of. Had I clung to my ridged view on the IP I would have missed out on all the series that followed and I can tell you that I enjoyed every one of them. They were never as "good" as the original to me, but they stood on their own merits and added to the rich lore that Star Trek has. Keep your heart and mind open MMO_Doubter, everything deserves a chance to be judged for what it is, not what it could have been.

How could you swing and miss on the principles of the ST IP
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 12/19/09 12:59:16 AM
Also, we know you arn't that into Star Trek if you referred to yourself as a "Trekkie". Most Star Trek fans like to call themselves "Trekker".
Not to split hairs with you, but Trekkie refers to a Star Trek fan that connected with the Original Series, which I am. I was a bit young by 2 years to see the original airing, but I did watch the reruns and the animated series as a kid. Trekker is what the Next Gen and later Star Trek fans were labeled either by themselves or others. I love all Sci-Fi so I enjoyed all of the series and movies, well the new one not so much, but I did think it was ok. As far as the game, I don't know if I will love it or hate it, but this old Trekkie will be happy if its entertaining for a few hours a night. Could care less about player crews, but to each their own. My final comment about the game is a quote from Next Gen's Relic's. Scotty from Relics: Laddie... every woman has her own charm; you just have to know where to look for it. |

No offense to Quinto, but they should have gotten Robert Picardo. |

Star Trek Online: Inside Beta: You Got That Star Trek Feel
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/16/09 6:00:06 PM
Sorry was a bit rushed with my last post.
By breathing room I ment both using impulse and warp engines. Warp is always the main travel speed, but how much room do we have to roam on impulse?
Just thought of another one, are they using the same naming structure they did with Champions, where your characters name is followed by a global handle? I think it was Armysurplus@trekjunkie or something like that.
Granted I will be taking advantage of the open beta, but any tidbits that you are allowed to pass along would be most welcome.

Star Trek Online: Inside Beta: You Got That Star Trek Feel
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/16/09 4:19:14 PM
Im interested in how much breathing room you have in space. How long does it take to run into an invisible barrier?
Also, have you run into any missions that require you to use a shuttlecraft instead of the transporter?
How long can you go in a tier ship before you HAVE to upgrade? I'm a old school trekkie and my ultimate ship was and will forever be the Constitution Class, both her original and refit versions. Would I be able to complete missions in one of those ship far into the content? Not worried about it be very difficult, I'd just like to get as much time as possible in the center seat of those beauties.

Star Trek Online: Jack Emmert on Microtransactions

Blah, I'm not surprised after seeing Champions. I will be waiting at least 3 to 6 months after release to see what happens before I pick it up, if I do. What a buzz kill. |

Star Trek Online: Kobayashi Maru: Klingon Edition
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/14/09 11:12:46 AM
I have to agree with you both, this just doesn't fit at all. It is disappointing and shows that they may not be researching all the material they stated they were. Seems like they have a Federation mindset, and that just wont cut it for Klingon related missions and objectives. After seeing Champions I was a bit worried how STO was going to turn out, now I'm more so.

Stargate Worlds: Closed Beta Announcement and Screens
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/03/08 10:32:35 AM
Nice! I've been looking forward to this game since I learned about it. Now all thats left is to cross my fingers and hope I'm selected to test. It's always nice to have the oppertunity to test games you have an interest in, but then again who knows. I've tested my fair share of the games currently on the market and I've played nearly 80% of them for more than 6 months.

I plan on playing it once a trail is introduced, as I've wasted to much money on games that really didn't appeal to me.

This months Game Informer had a 10 page feature on STO. Some very interesting things in there from Craig Zinkievich, about how extensive the customization will be with both avatars and starships. Tidbit: "New Star Trek episodes rarely passed without the appearance of some new alien species. Because of that, players are allowed for forego the more common races and create their own." Not sure if that is news to anyone, I'm trying not to follow the game to closely until closer to launch. Its like being on the verge of starvation and smelling pizza you cannot eat. LOL |

Pirates of the Burning Sea: Buddy Keys Available
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/25/08 10:18:02 PM
Wouldn't mind getting a hold of one of them. I followed the game for a little over a year, but after the delays I moved on. Im not the kind of die hard gamer that follows a game from start to finish, I've seen more than a few games I drooled over never see the light of day.
I'm a bit curious to see how things turned out, but not 50 dollars curious. |

I like the solo feature of the game, but I do feel that it should gradually shift at least somewhat to 2 to 5 people groups. I am no fan of raiding and avoid games that have it bleeding out its eyes, but it appears this is on the other end of the scale. Its a fun shooter type game, I like the setting and the feel, even if my computer cant handle it. I dont really follow games closely so maybe they plan on beefing up some of the encounters or applying a difficulty toggle for instances where friends can group together for increased rewards would be a nice idea. They have like 8 or so instances per area, it would be interesting if one or two of those were set on insane, with the Bane in total control and in force.. haha |

I have, but my system is a little outdated. I've preordered the collectors edition, but I did it at GameStop so its not like I cant put the money towards a different game if I feel the performance isnt acceptable.
I have mixed feelings about the game, but the pros are a bit higher than the cons. |

I was hacked once playing WOW and it was the reason, well one of the reasons I quit playing as well. The GM was nice and professional and helped me as much as he could. In the end I got back my gold, but lost my gear. I found myself playing less and finally just canceled my account. I may start it up again once the snow starts flying here in North Dakota, but I will cut and paste my username and password from a random document to further secure my info.
I got the keylogger from a mod, if I play again I will go mod-less, I dont pvp or raid so it shouldnt be too rough. haha |

Voted too soon to tell. I like the game and the overall theme, I like the AI and the combat system, how taking cover plays a role in the battle. What I fear is that there may not be anything to do after a few months of play time, even for me and I dont game all that much these days. I have the game reserved and will be optimistic that content will flow from the coders like sweet honey. The clan wars might be fun, but the dev response to pvp seemed a bit off the hip to me and as such seems to be tacked on. |

To the person that mentioned WOW; lets not forget that WOW had its share of bugs on release and although those bugs may have been few, I spent my fair share falling through the world or losing some item that I know I had when I logged out. 30 days may be just about right, depending on the current build, either way we will know in a month. |
