I guess if they are the "evangelists" then the OP is the guy on the corner with the "World is ending" sign.
In the "end" it is the end users responsibilty to buy legitimate items. Always been that way in courts. Buying stolen or misbegotten goods on ebay doesnot exonerate the buyer. They problem is two fold...Zenimax not controlling codes and end users buying illegal stuff to get a deal. Both need to be dealt with for the good of the industry.
I do not think from everything we have heard that it nearly died. Seems to be doing well. I also doubt the base getting banned is hugh.

As to the incentive to go back. Either they liked the game and will accept they f'd up and buy a new copy or they hated the game anyway. Seems many can get a refund possibly and buy a legit copy.
Homosapians destroyed Neanderthals, does that keep you up at night. Romans wiped out cultures setting up moden European powers, do we cry for them. Chinese killed hundreds to cement dynasties, Incas and Myans the same. Current middle east is fight wars over religious belief using genocide. Africa the same. Sympathy....the world is a harsh place outside of college walls. The best form of sympathy is to stop worrying about the past and stop what is happening in the present so that future people do not have to be sorry, but that take will and sometimes a heavy hand driven by people willing to protect the weak and poor. Ifnot your sympathy for people in the past is a hallow nod of the head abd you have learned nothing.
They won't go after the reseller for the same reason VISA and Mastercard do not prosecute every fraudulent credit card user. Itcost too much to send people to where the criminals are, pay to sit in court, and then get nothing much in return. Same reason most people in simple bar fight do not press charges...juice is not worth the squeeze. Easier to send a message and scare people from buying the misbegotten goods.
So long as humans are around someone will always be wrong to others. Either culturally, lifestyle wise, racially, economically, etc.
Add to it the people that buy your stuff get to keep it.
So I con you to give me your stuff that I sell to a third party to sell on ebay and amazon and it is your fault. What a great world.

Interesting ideas.

I guess I could've asked, what would make you come back, or start playing WoW.

But I was more concerned about the overall number of subs. How could they attract & keep a steady number of subs, maybe even growing every quarter, without having to hype an expansion?

By the way, a few of you missed my point this morning, I never said it wasn't normal for the game to drop subs after an expansion releases, but it's never dropped this much, in this short of time, and the hardcore PvErs and PvPers have never quit in droves as much as they have this expansion.

Like I said, it took 2 years of MoP to be down to 6.8mil subs. It's taken 6-7 months to be basically down to that number today. So yeah, it is normal, but not at the rate it has been, and the type of players it's effected.

And yeah, the question is basically impossible, because if it was that easy to figure out, a billion dollar company would've figured it out by now. I just wanted to know your thoughts.

There is a problem compairing sub loss in MoP and WoD.  The bump from release of MoP was about 1 million subs.  The increase in WoD was about 2.5 to 3 million.  MoP in 9 months it lost 3  to 3.5 million players...that is about 2.5 million excluding the expansion bump people.  WoD started at a little over 7 million and rose to just over 10 and in 6 months fell to 6.8 million.  excluding the bumps from expansion flockers the game only lost maybe .5 million in 6 months as opposed to 2.5 million in 9 months in MoP.

For an aging game that does not look that bad if people that come for the expansions are people that were already disappointed with the game or just there to consume content and jump to a new game to consume content.

"Conditioning" is the proper term.  Video developers are "conditioning" players to certain game style preferences based on what is cheaper to produce and obtain the largest sustainable profits.  In today's state of video gaming the PvP FPS/MOBA style gaming is the easiest to design, develop and produce to obtain the fastest and largest sustainable profit margins.  That is, therefore, where the money is and developers are following the money.  If a gamer wants to play, they must play those games or abandon gaming all together.  These tactics are nothing new.  Producers of products have employed similar tactics to dictate consumer spending in other manufacturing industries.

If those are the items people will spend on and not on the fringe items you want the producers are not dictating the market they are responding to the consumer.

You are not understanding the dynamic and in failing to do so are subjecting yourself to being brain-washed without even realizing it.  There is no doubt that the market in the video game industry has long been in PvE.  Again, all you need to do is look at all of the successful PvE games as compared to PvP games to come to the obvious conclusion.  If you need more, then perhaps you may want to look at the any MMORPG that allows for PvE severs and PvP servers to easily note that the PvE servers are always, by far, the more crowded servers.  The fact being, however, that it is simply not viable at this time to produce quality PvE MMORPGs so in order for professionals in this industry to maintain a viable living they must "adjust" or perish.  The proven easy money is in PvP FPS/MOBA because design and development is cheap and the content is the players themselves.  An example of this dynamic would be car makers.  Society steers lover of large luxury vehicles away from those vehicles by the cost of gas.  There has been several instances in the USA when big luxury vehicles and SUV's where very popular and the preferred way of travel for many commuters.  This advent of rising gas costs, however, "conditoned" car owners to abandon their large luxury cars and SUV's with the lure of cheaper gas and car maintenance costs.  That is just one example, but there are and have been many depending on societal needs.  You can chose to argue for arguments sake but this is elementary stuff, my friend

You seem to view industry as there to serve the people, it is a common thought of people that have been brain washed by the occupy type people.  Business is here to serve itself and in turn produce products that people will buy and by doing that serve us.  If you want to go out on the limb and take the risk to make items that are edgy to possibly break through go for it, but most likely you will fail.

Your example is completely wrong because it was an outside factor changing the way the product worked.  That would be like all internet usage is now pay by the minute at a much higher price.  Thus people would play multiplayer games that require less time to play as MOBA do, but since that is not the case your example has nothing to do with the subject.

Established companies go where the money was, hoping it still is.  New companies can take the risks and go for where the money might be because they are not risking nearly as much as the established company is.  That is elementary stuff but If you want to argue just to argue go ahead.

Its hard to say what is niche. Developers changed the formula and the players are putting up with it and paying anyway.

There are no accurate studies being conducted, or at least giving the community a vote....If there is show me it.

We are Forced Liner

We are forced Easy

We are forced Cash shops

We are forced stories

Even if you like any or all of them, they are still forced !

lol .. how are you forced when you can just click and close the game? It is a free market. Devs are free to cater to ANY gaming style, and we are free to play, or not to play.

Just like I did not complain that UO is forcing a virtual world on me. I just quit after trying it in beta because it was not a very good game for me. Nothing is forced in this world. You don't have to play games. There are plenty of other entertainment.

As a few others have clarified, the reason why the TLP servers are highly sought after is two fold: 1) It is a refreshing wave of nostalgia for those of us who actually played it originally back in the day. 2) It actually makes the rest of the games components (items, quests, etc.) worth their weight. In Everquest contemporary, there's no point in doing half of the quests or seeking half of the items thanks to Defiant gear. Moreover, pre-raid grouping becomes more obsolete since you can hire a merc. And then you have the entire issue of the game's inner-economy getting permanently off-balance thanks to the purchase and sale of Krono. More or less, Everquest post-expansions has become more of a freemium pay-for-shortcuts game than the authentic MMO it's supposed to resemble.

That being said, SOE realizes that the TLPs are very hot sellers and the biggest incentives for EQ players to purchase All-Access, but the way they have it limited to only one server (which they hyped up A LOT) while knowing fully well that they were going to queue players and have consistent high capacity, it makes me wonder why they couldn't just open a second TLP server parallel to Ragefire that is cloned from the original? I wouldn't be surprised if SOE starts selling a product in the marketplace that will "bump you up in the queue" for Ragefire pretty soon. Of course, I'm just bitter that I've been paying for All Access and have only been able to get into the game twice in the past week.

One last thing; the fact that they allow multi-boxers could possibly be interpreted as "Multi-Boxers = More All Access Memberships = More Profit" in answer to those who complain about multi-boxers. I'm against it too but I don't think it'll change anytime soon.

Probably no second server at first because nostalgia has a habit of wearing off when the experience does not match up the memory.

Honestly doesn't bother me either way i can go without flying

check out the wow forums. After being told yesterday there will not be any flying in Draenor or in future Xpacs, the crowd over there will beg to differ.

By the next xpac the crowd will get over it.

Did you meantion the daily quests that give you 200 - 800 gold a day.  Nope.  Did you meantion the rotating heroes every week....nope.  Ok this seems unbias.

In psychology rules are based on general behaviors not absolutes so there are always exceptions and cross catagories.
I have played Eve. Had 4 accounts at one time. Anyone that says "they can not catch up" has no clue about the game. I do not care much for the game now, but you can play for a month and be flying a battlecruiser able to take on lvl 3 missions and some4's, be in an elite mining rig, or be a pvp frigate able to compete in corp missions. It does not take long to specialize and compete. It is flying specialized ships, battleships, and caps that take time. Frankly why would you want one of those with out the base to support one of them?
Last one pissed me off that it was just a rush game. If you took the time to explore or build up units the enemy was just a death stack sitting at the end. So your only option was to ignore and race to the end.
Crazy people do not know they are crazy. If they did they would not truely be crazy.
Companies have to report revenue unless they are privately held, so I would doubt these numbers are false.
@rojoArcueid: it is not exploiting people if they willingly want the service.
