I stay in 2nd edition.
Why tv, movies, and games do not make you more violent they have been shown to make people more accepting and less shocked by violence.
Being a dps you will be fine. Healing is the next step and does not take too long once you learn the spells. Tanking is easy with your new 90 in 5 mans if you understand taunting...raid tanking takes more time and deeper understanding of all tank abilities.

+1

the PvE.  I am a collector and I can not do Lvl 5 missions without risking my hard earned ships which means they are useless.

Grape is just an F2P lover do not mind him.

Looks good hope they did not blow their budget on actors.

Can you see, perhaps, why some people might think that Goon vs BoB drama is lame, and how Amarr vs Matar drama is more compelling?  I mean, Goon vs BoB drama is just a bunch of manchildish prattle, when you get right down to it.  Eroica1 BS is just...sad.  It doesn't show how great, creative and thought-provoking you all are.  It just looks like a sad group of folks who have no imagination or personality.

I mean, if you are going to get all worked up over online BS, it might as well be BS that's compelling and embodies values that are greater than yourselves.  That's why the EVE fiction is important, at least for me.  Because SomethingAwful and powerclan values really don't stand for much, other than "look at how cool we are" and "ROFL."

I want something more interesting than that.

This isn't just an EVE problem. It's an internet problem. All the kind of utopian dreams of what the internet could do (of which I think early MMOs were a part) tend to go out the window when 4chan and SomethingAwful and the like get involved in anything. Stuff like EVE doesn't create the cesspool it just reflects the majority of the internet back at itself.

How do you fix it? How do you socially engineer these people to be decent online despite their every instinct which seems to be to the contrary while still giving them freedom to actually build their own stories or drive the narration in the ones you've created? It may be impossible but if some dev figures it out they're going to have a great game .

Only way is the way real world societies do it.  Punishments have to be worse or perceived as worse than the benefit of the action.

I haven't liked a game really since WoW; but I no longer play WoW. I find it funny (obnoxious really) when people write things about a game as being "factual information", like they have the personal line to the Dev department, the Customer service manager, and the Finance department.

To start, the main thing people like to target, but rarely look at, is the numbers. Sure, WoW has "x" amount of subscribers, we can all agree with that. But not ALL (yes, factual info) of them are active individual account holders. When I played, I had 2 accounts, one for myself, one my friend would play on. I know for a FACT*, that Blizzard allows "multi-boxing (for those unfamilliar with the term, it means several accounts for the same person) because I got to do a Warfront with someone on the other team running four of himself. Numbers really do not tell it all. 7 million? Maybe, but not ALL of them are individual players.

*Based off of a conversation in an email with customer service at the time, since I thought it was odd to see.

The theme of the game does not appeal to everyone currently, and thats fine. But you cannot discount the appeal is toward "younger" audiences now. In my opinion, they did it to attract a new croud of players'; a newer generation I suppose I could say. Some (no, not ALL) older gamers' start finding less time to play, let subscriptions lapse due to personal life reasons, etc. So sure, they went into "kiddie mode" to get a newer following for the game to prolong their life.....whats wrong with that? Smart if you ask me. Still, it is not for everyone, that also is fact. It is not a reason really to insult people for their opinions really.

As far as drawing new people in, well, it might help to start in the customer service department first. Maybe train the agents there on how to deal with a disgruntled customer a little better; that, or have then pass the call to a supervisor who is trained (and in some cases paid) to deal with it. That might prevent the agent from saying the wrong thing to a customer on the edge of leaving to tip to the leaving side. For example, people do not like to hear the word "no" when they have an issue they would like resolved. Compromise; that is a way to retain.....compromise. But a flat out "NO" for a support "professional".....not good.

After that, try to look at some of the possible reasons a player might have had to leave.  One possibility, could very well be making a player in a situation in real life unable to subscribe for "x" reason feel as if they are not able to keep what they worked their asses off for because they are unable to log in.

Example: Guildmaster Dethrone; no emails sent to the person controlling the guild, letting them know of the new feature, OR that it has been enacted.

In my opinion, the Dev's should have thought about that as well. Then maybe the player could have logged in (or tried to log in) and either pass lead to someone they trusted, so that some dirt bag loser in an officer position could steal control, kick everyone, and transfer the guild to another server. That's not a good way for someone to lose a level 17 guild they dumped all of their free time and not free gold into building up.

Side Note: I had taken a break from WoW when I was told by customer service, that Death Grip "was never intended to work on players', it was intended to be used on bosses". I am still trying to grasp the logic there, since DG on a boss doesn't "Death Grip" them, it just agros them. Why not just call it "Agro Magnet" or something... No, that response was once again from an improperly trained agent I am willing to bet.

Yes, that is what got me to stop playing WoW; total account deletion because I was not going to work my ass off again building up a guild to level 17, trying to rebuild a raid team, etc.  But, thats just my position, I can't speak for everyone.

I thought WoW was best in BC, but it was getting a little bit  too much once we got to Cata; plus, when they took out some of the achievements I loved working on (Did somebody order a knuckle sandwich, for example) because they were "too hard for some players' to do". It is never easy to have something you enjoy doing removed from what you enjoy playing. I suppose you can say people really do not like change; they can adapt to it, they can adjust to it, but they more often then not really do not like change.

Perhaps, also, it would help to send "exit interviews" to those players' they lost, to see what the reason were for them quitting in the first place. It could be possible those reasons have been addressed/fixed. As they have said in other articles about it, an exit interview will not help every player in every situation, but it will give the people that want to know an idea of why that player left in the first place.

Anyway, people have their reasons to support WoW, just like people have their reasons to not support WoW. While I no longer play, I do miss some of what I did enjoy. But it is not enough to get me to go back sadly.

If you cancel your sub then it sends you to a survey about why.

Basically think of EVE as a Republican paradise. Big corps rule everything and the government (ccp) doesn't get involved with regulation.

Bringing politics into this forum is a big no no.....

I just can not activate my 4 accounts anymore cause it no longer offers what I want.  The PvE side is horrible.
You can blame only the players for everything.  Raiders(hardcore'ers) demand the best rewards we gated and not OW.  Griefers make OW-PvP hated.  Sandbox is stuck behind these two groups.

I use to play wow also, and this game doesn't give the people what they want. Wow is at its end of days, and it has been a long time coming. Every thing will meet its end at one point. This was once the great MMO but no more. They had their  fame now its time for them to sit down and reminisce over the days they once were great.

I play games now  where its the only one game the developer has so it updated often i.e. Marvel Heroes 2015.  Blizzard has to many games so one cant get the attention its need to flourish. Also they take way to long to come out with Expansions in my opinion and when they do the expansion isn't really good. They make you wait a long time they when its released it sucks. This is the Blizzard formula...

[mod edit] How are they on their way out with 7 million subs?    [mod edit]

Well the are only 6.8 million subs or should i say account for blizzard only see account not subs and btw my account which i have still count even if not active account so please example that fact. Also truth is blizzard care more of milk WoW then really make good content which make people leave for fact both Cata and MoP both fall really short compare to TBC and WOLK when come content and honest which so much money that blizzard earn each year the should have money for 2nd team that still can make content even if main team work on expansion heck if other mmo out still manage make expansion and gave out content which earn less money blizzard do why can't blizzard make effort?

Umm... What?  How are 6.8 million subs also inactive accounts?  My brain hurts after reading this nonsense.

if it is counted that way they what they have about 20 million accounts/subs???

Yes!! great info!! thanks for a great lesson!! orcs, elves, trolls, draf, gnome etc etc are sole property of gamesworkshop!! the folklore collected from all over europe during 600-1200AC was just works of humans who time travelled to future and stoe gamesworkshop's warhammer lore. we should go back time and punish them for their blasphemy!!!

We are talking in the context of video games here on a game site no less, oh wait i forgot, common sense and intelligence is completely absent here.

----

Nice try though, but i would let it go. It's common knowledge that Blizzard copied Warhammer and Warhammer40k for Warcraft and Starcraft. Just because you don't accept the facts does not mean it is suddenly not true any more.

But they made their own lore...and that is what is most important. Copying the design is nothing more than car companies do every day. It is what is behind it that matters. Warhammer has continually shit on their own product in the media of computer games.  They are too controlling and too worried that a game will bring down their already overshadowed empire.  They should be less worried about non-cannon and more worried about getting eyes on their product before they are compete dust in the history books and not just dusty as it is now.

The thing is to have gameplay mechanisms in place to punish and discourage griefing whilst allowing most other playstyles to flourish.

Why bother? Just have different game modes. Those who don't want griefing and choose a mode (pve-only for example) where griefing is not possible.

Problem is now you are making two games really instead of just one and something will suffer.

Another thing...."1 level 90 too"...you are complaining because you only get 1.  That is the epitome of entitlement.  You want them to give you everything without you having to do or pay anything...wow....just wow.

You want F2P then go play a F2P cause frankly the people in P2P games do not want you.  All your F2P games are nothing but cash shop pissing on you calling it rain.  So people like that warm smelly rain...others do not.  If you can not afford the $15 a month then...uh...move on.  Did not know you were so desperate to play WoW, but too poor to afford it.

Then there are all the potential barriers to getting into it. Certainly with our previous expansions, if you had dropped out somewhere leading up to that expansion, like prior to it, then you had the barrier of getting through all the expansions you didn’t do, to get to whatever the current one is. So we’re really trying to lower that barrier with the level 90 boost and make sure that, if you are excited by this, that you can jump right into it.

Yeah, right. First you let people pay for the expansions all those years. Then you let them pay for insta level to 90. And then you call it "lower the barrier". If you really want to lower the barrier you could simply make all expansions but the newest one free. And bring back the Scroll of Resurrection. That is actively lowering the barrier without robing the players. But then you have to pass on a bit of money. And that will never happen.

That's the greatest problem I have with WoW (and Blizzard in general) nowadays:  don't piss on my back and call it rain ...

Right? 1st ask someone to buy a 39.99$ expansion, then ask them to pay another 15$ to access it and then ask 60$ to create a level 90 toon= "Barrier removed"!! Arseholes!!! If they really wanted to remove the barrier then they would given players access to all the content of the game as soon as they subscribe. Someone wants to buy digital deluxe or collector's edition game? let them buy it and give them extra in game and out game items. what i see here is "milking the cash cow", i am not going to argue about quality of their content but this type of greedy attitude what made me leave the game and i am not going back until they fix this behavior.

Expansion come with a 90 level toon...so....yeah.

They play WoW because it's a nice mmo for a themepark.  It's world is big.  Almost everyone has tried WoW so it's a mutual ground.  WoW was the only mmo that allowed people to mod the UI.  But mostly it will play on old PC's because of it's cell shade graphics.  Right now in mmorpg's we have a real income gap between those who can afford a gamer's PC and those who cannot.  People who want a 3d fancy mmorpg that does not lag and has a large population can count on WoW.

I think the real question is why do so many people hate WoW?  Me included.  For myself I might answer because I am tired of themeparks but Everquest was a thempark and I don't feel great animosity for it.  I can't really place at what point I started hating World of Warcraft and wanting to see Blizzard fail.  It doesn't say nice things about me and remains a mystery.

Most likely because you blame Blizzard for other companies trying to copy them when really it is the other companies fault Blizzard is not forcing them to try and make WoW-esque games.
