This is why EQnext will be a failure. When the guy at the top makes statements like this, it is clear he has no idea what is going on. Saying people only want to play games for 45 minutes is one of the stupidest things I have heard in a long time.

-.- I want to play 45 minutes a day ..... Kids want 45 minutes a day. People who work all the time want 45 minutes a day. Everyone i know wants 45 minutes a day. The real people outside of your community want 45 minutes to play.

It is the most truthfull thing i have ever heard.

I would probably change it to most people want to feel like they accomplish something if they play 45 minutes a day.  You might play more, but I would think most people want to look back and say they did something to progress in those 45 minutes.

The only problem with that is that the core population will consume that content in days instead of months (currently) and not years (as it was and still should be).

Accomplishment can be simple stat change, item enchancement, new shiney...does not have to be completion of quests or raids or etc.

People running in fear from the Robot Zombie WWX Holocaust, while Climate Change related Super Storms engineered by Aliens destroy the Earth as Religious and Political group shot each other over the placement of a period in secularly holy texts about how people should be allowed to marry during an Ice Age cause by people in Canada leaving windows open with AC units on.

Players want MMO game where they can play 45 minutes a day. or 45 minutes per year and still be equally powerfull with a chance to win like everyone else.  People do not have time to play all day and night. Not the new genereations not the ones after that. People want speed, people want everything right off the start, People want to win.

I blame PvP and competition.  Everyone wants to be the top of the leader boards, top guild, highest rating, have the flashy gear to show off.  MMO's are no longer about doing your own thing and finding fun...they are now about comparing yourself to others and being better.

Honestly I look forward to our genre returning to the geeky roots we started with.  I never had more fun than before MMORPG's became mainstream.  Back when 200k was living high on the hog, because our niche market was just that small.

Saga of Lucimia is just yet another indy dev team trying to return us to our roots.  While the game doesn't appeal to the vast majority of the current MMORPG market, that's ok!  I'd rather see 200 mmorpgs that all cater to small niche audiences, and do what they do extremely well, than have 10-20 AAA mmo's trying to appeal to the mass market.

http://massivelyop.net/2015/04/27/the-saga-of-lucimia-focuses-on-group-based-emergent-gameplay/

Problem with those numbers is getting investment cash to add the features people want in the games.

half the stuff he listed is cosmetic stuff.

It seems people against Group Finders do not like PUGs...yet standing in a city calling out LFG creates a PUG.  If you are not in a PUG then you are in a know group and thus would not have to be using a Group Finder.  Is it that people miss the "LFG for X" spam all the time in chat?  I fail to see how the feature destroys the community of a game.

I don't know about sorting.  I think I prefer to put stuff in specific places within bags -- weapons go here, armor goes here, etc.  I've yet to see a sorting system that doesn't mess up my manual organization.

The wallet is almost essential these days.  But the thing that is most needed, but never seems to be implemented, is a money changer.  Almost everyone who has traveled internationally has dealt with a money changer.  There needs to be some simple way to convert currency from one form to another.  I'd love to see fluctuations in the exchange rates, with reasonable exchange fees (different for each vendor) to help remove money from the game.  A more thorough, complex economy would have something worth buying at every level with each currency type.  This could even encourage players to set up their own exchanges (and exchange rates) within the game.  And such a system should be easier than inventing all the various types of currency in the first place.

WoW added a sorting feature where you can designate different bags for different types of items for the auto sort button.

Yes an AOL chat room to prey...i mean pick up chicks.

We have Hardcore PVP, easy-mode PVP, easy-mode PVE, but no new hardcore PVE games.

Hardcore PVE ...

There is a gap here and I think a AAA title for this is needed.  Thoughts?

I mean, they could even market the "hardcore-ness" and have some marketing gimmick that "if you buy our game and it's too tough for you, we'll give you your money back and a pacifier.  NO QUESTIONS ASKED."

Hehe, that would be pretty cool.

Define hardcore PvE...if you mean raids then Wildstar tried....so what do you mean?

Probably not, though I'll expect still going there to queue old missions for free gold.

Thanks.  Good to hear.  I knew there were rumors, but no confirmation.

Now, to really pump up Draenor, I think they need to turn Shatt into a thriving two-faction city.  Allow an instanced PVP zone to to push parts of Shatt back and forth between the factions in the PVE realm.  That would really get things hopping, IMO.

And how does this function in the more populated PvE servers...are the parts of Shatt important or only important to PvP?

I dont think there are many games out there that will give you all the content for nothing.. they are out to make money afterall.. usually they have some kind of limit in place on the f2p accounts.

Not sure why people think they should be able to play a game for absolutely nothing and get everything while others pay to cover them....must be the current world's group think.

Maybe because of people like you who want to pay and get everything, every single mmo lately is bad.  People should be able to play a game for free.

As long as there are people to cover them, then there will be P2W B2P and Subscriptions for hundreds of dollars monthly.

It is true, you cant expect something without money, but you have to at least try. There are so many peoples out there who dont have money to buy anything, yet want to be equal. Well, this is not the real world, This is game world, and people have the right to be equal there! Lets not bring stupid stuff like money into the games.

true, this is the game world not the real world... but unfortunately people that create the games don´t live in the game world, they live in the real world where they actually need money for little things like food, clothes and a place to live, so they end up having two choices, either have a job that gives them money for all that, and develop the games as a hobby (for example, planeshift, eternal lands), which will compete for the resources (mainly time) with other things like sleep, family, social life and so on, which ends up with slow development time and uneven quality because of its dependence on volunteer work (which can be from VERY good to not so much) or they can make the game development their full time job, in which case the money to pay for all that must come from somewhere.

And of course there´s the overhead costs (servers, maintenance staff, office space and so on) that also exist in the real world and can only be paid with real world money.

So in the end it´s not that there are people that are willing to pay... it´s that to have the kind of product with the expected quality (graphical and otherwise) of modern MMOs it´s no longer something that can be done in a reasonable timeframe purely as a hobbyist... like it or not, doing something like that requires a large team working full time, sometimes for years, and you need money, and lots of it, to be able to make it... and you need some way to make back the money spend on that, plus some extra to allow you to fund future products... which is why you have plenty of games where you can play for free... but none (outside of hobbyist projects) where you can get EVERYTHING for free.

At the end all those people who want to play , can't because MMO always needs money .... Now if only someone could create an AI to do all the work...

Money are the problem. If only there were no money, but humans always used money. We can't change that even if it has to.

Still,  i keep saying there are people who don't have money to play but want to like everyone else.

I want to be king of the world, drive every car made, live in your house...unfortunately just because you want something does not make it happen.  The world will never be fair.  It will always have been that are outside of certain things.  This should drive people to strive to improve their situations, but it seems lately it just leads to people complaining and demanding that others take care of them.

You mean stupid stuff like money that has to be used to create the game and pay the people to maintain the game.  When I hear that you personally work for free 40 hrs a week, give everything you own to anyone that asks for free, and only lives on free stuff that you can get from society then I will give you some credence to your views.

In honor of every post made about WoW's numbers......these are all lies, made up numbers, most of these are dummy accounts in china, fake fake fake.....there that should cover most of it.

MMO Social.. huh?.... oh yeah.. i forgot about the MMO Communities being social.. 14 years ago... 10 years ago... 8 years ago... 6 years ago... 5 ye..... wait... nvm that never happened..... about 5 years ago I noticed a change in the MMO community... it wasnt something that took its time growing.. it was a slam bam thank you mam moment....

Meaning a certain company (Blizzard) did a mass advertising campaign that changed the industry for an expansion (Wrath of the Lich King) that was crappy. It pulled in so many non social players into the game by using media personalities.  I literally watched a decent social game go to the crapper in less than a year.

Sure the population of the game went up, hell it sky rocketed... however is that always a good sign when the average personality of the player base drops? flaming, trolling, and just plain being an ass became the norm, player harassment  went from a thing that could get you a warning or possible ban if you were a real ass.. became something considered normal.  Racism used to be an offense not tolerated, now its something seen every day in WOW and nothing is done..

Why? too many players and not enough control... thats what short sighted greed gets ya ... grats Blizzard you screwed the pooch, slept with the ex wife and now are reaping what you sowed...how many millions of players lost?.....yeah good luck with that.

Rift has been a blessing with its updates and the community is a little better.. I havent found any really large turds on there yet.. but im sure there is a few...

Far as Apps go.... to hell with them... havent seen a good one yet that was as fun as the games I play on PC and im not sorry for that... the future of apps is eye strain.. enjoy that.

How many million members still?

If you play the game and are unwilling to sub then you should not complain about the store.

2) They're all same-old-same-old at this point. I don't even mean mechanics-wise, I mean a literal cut and paste of linear boring grind to "end game" asap and then grind end game. Somewhere along the way, MMOs became about end game and not about enjoying the world, the journey, the story and the people around you.

That's actually exactly what MMOs like SWTOR, GW2, TSW and ESO were going for. MMOs where the journey was meant to be fun instead of just a boring grind to end game.

But the only correct answer to this thread is:

Today's MMOs are bad. Like soooo very, very bad! (It's a Deletenumbersomething thread. They are all the same.)

No, ESO GW2 and SWTOR just slapped a different skin on the same formula and tried to gimmick it up and call it "different". There was absolutely -nothing- innovative about any of those titles. They were all very shallow, linear and "quick reward for 0 effort", like most new generation MMOs. And yes, I've tried them all. TSW is the exception, but the game is so clunky and the setting so cheesy I can't bring myself to get into it.

Do not have to be innovative to be fun.

Me first,

I'm not playing any mmo right now.  Reason :

1) Cash shop, I've never gave a dime to a cash shop.....They don't belong. Sub or maybe B2P only.

2) Small zones.  It's not immersive if your loading.

3) Short 30 day games. Graphics seem to have to be high end for the picky players, yet they complain about not enough content.

4) Dungeon finders, it's an mmo they don't belong. ( give better social tools to find groups )

5) If the mmo has cross server anything it will not last.

6) Easy, fast leveling, solo content, with dynamic events. Well then it's not an mmo.

Each one was introduced within the last five or six years, and each one is an mmo killer on there own.

Yeah no way this cross server fad will last...WoW is done....

Can you get enough vets together to agree on a game to make it financially worthwhile to make?
