This is questionable, we don't know how the stories end and if they all end the same way or even if the ending is similar with just a few changes then the feeling of choice is an "illusion" just like Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Guild Wars 2: Ranger Preview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/27/12 11:20:10 AM
Thank you Garrett Fuller, I’ve been digging through YouTube.com for Ranger coverage during the beta preview and all I ended up with were videos showing the tip-tools for the skills and little else, while other classes tend to have play throughs showing the skills in action. So it’s nice to get actually feedback on the profession, hopefully someone will upload a play through video as well but this will hold me over. ^_^ |

While I give a congratulations (and already did this morning on twitter) I will also add my text to the "Buy to Play ≠ Free to Play" posts.
Now I'm off to pla... err test Risen 2 now that the download has finished. ^_^ |

If I'm interested in a game and why to help improve it then yes, however if I don't get into beta until it is near the end then I might not bother unless there are signs that it is more then just a mass flood gate opening preview. |

Originally posted by sketchy_ I take it this is something a Lancer experiences more often, I've never played one so I've never noticed though it's nice to know.
As to the poster who assumed I never got off the starter island your wrong, I've had my shot at BAM's in both the US version and Korean version so yes I've gotten off the island, though I never got into glyphs because in the Korean version it was a pain to understand. You should consider slowing down on the assumptions with the WoW comments I don't play WoW nor do I approach a game like it's WoW. What I do expect is for an MMO that talks about how much action the game has to the point of getting Bas to help them advertise to have more action then TERA has demonstrated. C9 has impressed me more with it's combat however it's world (or lack there of) is no were near as rich as TERA's. |

Originally posted by Entropy14 You missed a bit one: 4. Combat - While fun at the start it soon wears thin as the AI does not improve and all mobs follow the same pattern making them panfully easy. This is why BAM's are easly solo'd by all classes though some are much after then others. Also while TERA allows for aimed combat it roots the players when they attack basicly replacing tabbing with rooted animation, these can only be broken with dodge moves.
Personally I would like to see combat kicked up a notch, improve the AI so that mobs stop charge animations when players move out of the way and aren't as slow to move and attack. Also allow players freedom of movement while attacking, this would make the combat more challenging and fun when combined faster quicker to react mobs and heck even players in pvp. :-p |

It could be they tried and failed, it's not uncommon in MMO's and Vanguard is a great example you notice when you cross the zones even though there is no loading. WoW and Fallen Earth also had this issue but it was ironed out, still it is possible for a zone to crash in WoW when this happens you get a rubber band effect when trying to cross into the zone that's down. The safe and easy way is just to have a loading screen as you don't have to spend time ironing out the sync issues which again can be seen in Vanguard with the stutter effect. Seemless loading is still not that common in MMO's but larger zones are becoming far more common which can help to reduce the loading screen shock.

The Secret World: Immersion Day Preview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/24/12 10:22:28 AM
There is no twitch based combat in The Secret World, don't know where you got your informatoin but it's wrong, it's standard tab based with abilities that we are use to seeing maybe seeing the guns threw you off. |

I would prefer having an instance to play in until I could join the main server to waiting in a queue unable to play any day. Queues are not going away and this is a nice means to work around them and I hope future MMO's follow suit. |

Guild Wars 2: A New Breed of MMORPG?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/22/12 9:04:50 PM
Guild Wars 2 is far from a new breed of MMORPG's, it is more like the combination of several commonsense ideas to create a single theme-park MMO. This is a good thing because if they are successfully more companies will follow suit, so in that light they are an evolution (or at the very least the spark) more then a revolution of the MMO world. What remains to be seen is if it all works out, the same could be said for The Secret World and their ARG system as it bridges the gap of social gaming in a new way but if it will catch on remains to be seen.
Also I'm not forgetting Star Wars: The Old Republic because lets face it as much as people love to slam the title it has become the MMO to demo how much voice over work can change the grind if only initially, it is not unlike when movies went from being silent to having sound. Sure there are people that thought sound was pointless and just a fad but how many movies have released with no sound since. Guild Wars 2 is another bring in voice over though not 100% it might find that happy medium between the two which is where I believe is the direction that MMO's will go having a balance between voice overs and text. |

GW2 is a load of hype and is missing the 3 important aspects

Guild Wars 2 is targeting an audience that you are NOT part of, get over it and move on. There will be other companies/games that will target your style of play ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2 is not one of them. It's like complaining an RPG doesn't have enough FPS so it's going to "fail" and this is simply not true. Guild Wars has an audience and changing the game to the above will alienate that fan base.
The game you might be looking for is called ArcheAge but don't expect that to release in the next couple of years. Until then there is EvE or better yet (as they are closer to what you mentioned above) Mortal Online or Darkfall. |

This one of the worst trailers CCP has produced, they should have picked someone with more acting talent. Honestly the actors and actresses from Command and Conquer with all their cheese are far better then this one. |

TERA: Pokket's TERA Beta Impressions
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/16/12 4:27:00 PM
Pokket had that part of the video playing at 10, in game it's slower which actually makes the *ahem* physics stick out more.
I personally enjoyed TERA but my biggest issue was how it roots people when they attack, this is really noticeable when you are playing a ranged class and I found it rather annoying for an action based title. It was like I was playing CoX all over again, most MMO's these days let you run and gun and this should be the case with TERA. Being rooted in place takes out the thrill of having no tabbing, it's like replacing one handy cap with another. So instead of having tabbing your are rooted when you use an ability.
The second issue I have is that nothing really changes in TERA combat become boils down to what Pokket said, dodge dodge (normally a charge attack) attack. This does not change at the higher levels and it's one reason why it is so easy to solo BAM's, though expect the fights to take up to 15 mins as a warrior and 30 as a Sorcerer.
So while I find TERA fun I know that I’ll quickly move on to the next title. Thankfully there is one game I’m testing right now that I am rather enjoying so I look forward to the day it releases. |
