Darwin - I've always liked how he can adapt to any situation, it would be interesting to see how they would interrupt his powers in the game should they decide to add him.

If you ever dreamed of a space sim that would let you explore the galaxy, alone or with friends. Let you become what you want. Do what you want. much like the old Elite, Freelancer and Privateer games.  Leting you walk inside stations and ships like  Star Trek. And then get in your ship and explore the universe. With a real economy, factions and so on.A game that would be an MMO but also offer the option for  community run private servers where people could run their own mods and content.

On top of offering a single player campaign much like the old Freespace 2 and Wing Commander games. that you could play alone  and offline or with friends in co-op.

Does this seam to good for you? Are you afraid that this would be too much to ask?

Well. The creator of some of the best space sims ever made is coming back and not only pruposes like this but has a proof of concept for anyone to see.

Welcome to the show, MMORPG.com has already created a forum for the game: Star Citizen

-- Freemiums have to buy purple equipment training (license) eh with real money?  Subscribers have to buy authorization to use purple gear from the cash shop?  Is this referring to "paying" to unlock gear?  P2W, or just for Makeb gear .. Is does say "MOST PURPLE ITEMS" for both subscribers and freemiums though.

What do you all think?

I think that's an error on their site, the reason is that on the French translation it reads:

"Possibilité de s’équiper de tous les objets violets obtenus, à condition qu'ils respectent les condition en jeu (niveau, classe, etc.)."

Which translates to :

"Able to equip all purple gear aquired, as long as they meet the in-game requirements (level, class, etc.)."

Which would make sense seeing the site clearly marks it as "Unlimited" which the English tip tool contridicts.

Edit: The Deutsch translation also says the same thing as the French translation, so I'm quite sure it's just a mistake on the English translation.

"Alle erhaltenen violetten Gegenstände können ausgerüstet werden, wenn die Anforderungen im Spiel erfullt sind (Klasse, Stufe usw.)."

Funcom really just needs to stop trying to make MMOs and go back to making adventure games like "The Longest Journey". They have not had much success with MMOs and they have a terrible track record.. (AO,AOC,TSW)

Can't say I am the least bit surprised by this.

Come on man! Funcom one of the few dev houses left that tried to do something different. While every other dev house out there keeps playing safe hanging onto the WoW formula.

I mean.... after the total dissaster and most expensive fiasco in MMO history with SW:TOR, I would have thought people would start waking up and see that continuing copying the WoW formula is pointless.

/shrug

Actually in the gaming developer industry awards recently SWTOR got top awards...

http://gdconlineawards.com

Star Wars: The Old Republic got the awards because they had little to no competition. A game had to be released between June 1, 2011 – May 31, 2012 in order to be eligible for this years GDC. Meaning that next year we will see The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 but not Star Wars: The Old Republic and Tera.

In the case of this years GDC it was like having a Mr Universe contest full of obese people.

Its funny that you describe "Dynamic" as being a buzzword.

Merriam Webster - an important-sounding usually technical word or phrase often of little meaning used chiefly to impress laymen

Yeah, I'd say that accurately describes "dynamic". Especially when you consider that Rift(and GW2) has been criticized for how static its dynamic content is.

Also, yeah, everyone loves housing. Yay housing. But I would like to see how Trion works on it long term.

Trion seems to be only able to focus on one feature(thats not endgame PvE) at a time.

When Conquest was first introduced everyone made a huge deal about it. Now its largely ignored by the players and Trion, especially after they patched it so that its now more PvE based.

Also, when Conquest came out Chronicles and Instant Adventures were being ignored by Trion. Now Trion is focusing on Instant Adventures and ignoring Chronicles and Conquest.

So, are they going to do the same with Dimensions? Is this going to be yet another feature they introduce and promptly forget about?

I think you misquoted. Your definition of "dynamic" sounds like it came from the dictionary  of Dr Samuel Johnson.

Xiaoki was not providing the definition of "dynamic" but the definition of "buzzword" which accurately describes what "dynamic" is when it comes to MMO's.

You had me at Chris Roberts...

I was introduced into the world of Wing Commander when I got into the beta of Starlancer, after beta I went back and played the originals and have wished for an MMO since. I got a taste of what it might be like with Earth and Beyond but that didn't last long (thanks EA) and no MMO since has brought back that feeling for me not even Black Prophecy. While Star Citizen is not exactly an MMO (more of a hybrid) I am looking forward to it.

So you damn well bet I'm going to ignore that little voice in my head that says "wait, slow down, don't click that support button" because I already did. ^_^

Now before you list everything wrong with TOR, or say everything is fine as it is, my question is too people like me who quit cause they disliked alot of its current features. I complain about alot of TOR's features, so please don't cite everything wrong with the game lol, cause I've probably already posted it:)

Pre launch, bioware had a poll "what would you prefer in a space experience" where rail shooter and turret shooter where tied for worst on the poll, and JTL(Jump to Light Speed, the swg space game) and 3D space with capital ship boarding finished at the top.

Since then, little snippet's here and there have suggested that they have been working on a super secret space project, and they have said it's not the current system or an addition to the current system.(In fact they have plainly stated a massive space project has been in the works, since the poll's realizations came to light)

So the question is, if TOR launches a very cool space game, 3D like JTL, or BF2, would you try it out? I for one would, but I'm curious if it could be a game changer for TOR. I played JTL in SWG for about six months without playing any landbased gameplay, simply because I got addicted fast.

I'm always told "space is a dumb niche" and maybe people are right, but I like it, I'm just curious if others do? I would sub for a couple month's if its as revolutionary as Bioware is claiming, would you?

If they release something like that, then it will most likely happen after Star Wars: The Old Republic goes "free to play" so in my opinion there would be no reason not to check it out if someone was on the fence about playing it, assuming it's not a feature they would have to purchase inorder to experience it.

Well, it's kind of hilarious to watch the double standards. Anything good and it's all Anet and NCsoft has zero say or can get any credit for. Anything bad and it's all NCsoft's fault and Anet is powerless and not at fault.

Sorry, can't have it both ways.

What is NC softs fault is that they use email adresses as usernames, it is their standard which their partners just have to live with,

The rest is of course ANETs fault, but the bot problem is a storm in a waterglass. Account hacking is a real problem, and ANET really should restore hacked accounts items and characters at least, complain on that instead if you want to complain instead.

That is ArenaNet's fault not NCSoft, NCSoft was originally a unique username while Guild Wars opted for e-mail addresses as their usernames and carried it over to Guild Wars 2. NCSoft recently adopted the same style of login for their games with NC Account, however they don't share the same database, this is why the Guild Wars games can't be migrated over to the new NC Account system (only AION and Lineage 2.)

So no it's not NCSoft fault that Guild Wars 2 uses your e-mail address as your username, it's just business as usual for ArenaNet and if anything it would be more accurate to say ArenaNet influenced NCSoft's new NC Account management though I doubt it.

If they'd fired that arrogant asshole a long time ago, the game might have had a chance.

That makes little sense, it's like saying that if 38 Studio's fired R. A. Salvatore they might not have failed as a company. One of the few good things about SWTOR was the story so clearly Daniel Erickson did his job. However they shouldn't have allowed him to talk as he clearly doesn't understand MMO's as well as he understands writing a story.

If it's like guild wars 2 that they sell only cosmetic ,character slots boosts etc wil be good, anything else will be fail

I am not sure if you know this, but Guild Wars 2's system allows a person with enough money to exchange Gems for enough gold to level a character to 80 and fully gear them in exalted gear. This process would only take a few hours at most and of course that person would end up spending several hundreds of dollars (US).

Hmm, eq2 has a guardian class and it's a fighter...

I don't remember any "guardians" when i played D&D...

It's not a "Guardian" class it's one of the "FIghter" class's martial tradition, like "Great weapon fighter".

Hopefully not a last supper.

Try to keep that in mind when you sling your vitriol at the wrong place.

I think you took that far more seriously than they intended.

When someone loses their job it's hardly something to take lightly or joke about.

On topic, I am glad the Unity Rally fundraiser reached it's goal!

I missed the first bet as the windowed popped up and vanished so fast I thought I was just seeing things. I stood around and listened to them talk about where it landed and that they wanted to go again, the second window popped up and I picked the nest for and sure enough one cow and one nest later I had won one gold. When the third bet came in I didn't get a window, I assume that's because I already bet or I had won the bet. Either way I'm glad I didn't bet as I was going to pick the tower and it landed in the roost. ;-P

I rather enjoyed betting on the cows and plan to return and see if it will let me do it again after some time has passed.

The one thing I found out was that jumping puzzles (which I enjoy) and Cherry MX Red keys don't mix in Guild Wars 2. Due to how sensitive my keys are I often found my character evading to his death. Disabling double tap fixed that of course. ;-P

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nighthawk_(Marvel_Comics)

 or

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nighthawk_(DC_Comics)

It wont, HERO System (the game Champions Online is based off of) introduced Nighthawk in the 5th Edition (or FREd) and had no issues with it and has you pointed out DC and Marvel aren't at eachother throats for having characters with the same name.

My system which I believe is at or near five years of age with the exception of the video card (fast card in slow slot so not a huge improvement) is avg about 25 with all settings maxed. It's playable for me but I have lowered the settings a few time when things got too busy. In the next few months though I'll be upgrading the whole system with a new setup that should last me another five years. ^_^

So nope I haven't see 60 fps even if I drop all the settings to their slowest I just about kissed 40 but that's it.

Edit: When I get home I'll edit this post and provide the specs.

All this talk about Xfire and numbers, the only numbers I see as of this post is that:

13,667 Xfire users play Guild Wars 2: http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2

and

5,454 Xfire users play World of Warcraft: http://beta.xfire.com/games/wow

The rest of the e-peen flexing I could not careless about, all that matters is what I game enjoy playing and right now that is Guild Wars 2. How it compares to World of Warcraft in terms of the number of players does not factor in my enjoyment. Though what does is the quality of players and in my opinion Xfire e-peen posts is something that lines up with fanboys, haters, trolls, etcetera in other words a whole lot of nothing.

Edit: Links should be working now.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they had a stress test and hour before launch.

Honestly, this is great, but instead of wasting a crapton of money, they should just do podcasts with the Sci-fi effects and acting, instead of doing a huge production on cable/national TV.  Far too much risk for an idea that is cool on paper, but won't matter if the game sucks and the whole thing is bombed preventing future endeavors from investors.

If the batman movie with Michael Keaton had bombed in the box office, the comic book movies may have been doomed and banned from the bigscreen.

If people gagged at the formula used for the first slushee, then there would not be icee and a dozen other iterations.

If the Univeristy of Florida did not do Gatoraide correctly, we would still just have water to excercise with!

Do not Eff this up.

Syfy is notoriously cheap when it comes to their TV production values. I can't imagine they are spending boatloads of money here. My biggest concern is more that how is the MMO's survivability tied to the shows? If after a year Syfy decides to cancel the show to make room for some more "reality" ghost hunter nonsense, then what happens to the MMO?

They addressed that question at ComicCon; If the show get's cancelled the game will continue, it's one reason why the game mostly takes place in San Fransisco while the show takes place in St. Louis.

The only place I belong, ArcheAge Beta! ^_^

Outside of that, I'm all over the place but MMO's like Fallen Earth and Vaguard: Saga of Heroes bring back some of the joy I had in Star Wars Galaxies.
