   Thanks to TSW and TOR and in a more limited sense Lotro and STO story has made MMO's much more satisfying to play, no longer will I have to go through a very boring grind to reach the so called mana of end game

  Unfortunately I had to go pick up a pizza and could not complete my essay but this really is the Goldan Age for people who do not want to pay a sub but still want to play quality MMO games.  As one poster said there are not to many sand boxes with the exception of Xyson but certainly mine craft could be considered and Ryzom while not free offers 150 levels before you have to pay.

    I left out one game which is quite good and that is Fallen Earth-part sand box, part theme park.  What ever some of you think of some of these games most can agree that as far a s F2P or very little to play this is the Golden Age of MMO's

    Now I understand that for some hard core posters who have these nostalgic dreams of SWG making a come back or who sit and relive the days of EQ (dont sit start playing it is free now) it is a sad day for them, but for the rest of us it is manna from heaven. This is what my MMO game folder looks like

1. Tsw

2.  SWTOR

3. Vanguard

4. Guildwars 2

5. Guild wars 1 and of course all expansions

6. STO

7. Fallen Earth

8. Ryzom

9. Tera (will be downloading to play again on Jan 16)

10. AOC--terrible F2P option but I love the combat

11. LOTRO- edited in, a true leader in F2P

12. Uncharterd Waters- a little known but a gem of a sailing sandbox

   Especially if you do not want to spend much money.

   You have 2 GREAT story mmo's in TSW and SWTOR. TSW gives you great graphics, story , cut scenes, production, mystery, puzzles. Combine this with SWTOR which gives you GREAT story, production, cut scenes, combat, and good PvP. These are the two best story MMO's ever made!

   Love SWTOR but do not like their space game, then just download Star Trek Online, This game has improved massively in the last 2 years and offers a really fun space game and and average but functional ground game, if you switch back and forth from this to SWTOR than you have the best of both worlds.

     Want a traditional MMO with a little extra? Than just download Vanguard, it is a little creaky under the hood, but this baby has it all including Diplomacy a fun card game. There are not to many Worlds as open as this.   Want something even more traditional eq is now going F2P from what I have read

    Dont like the slightly creaky combat of Vanguard or TSW--------Big News---Tera with its great combat is going F2P.  Dont get me wrong the stories in TSW and SWTOR are Great but like anything else it can burn you out. If you want to come home and just KILL< KILL< KILL than tera is your game and the Pvp aint bad either.

     Hey how bout a traditional game with great story, graphics, Lore and exploring with good crafting ----Yup LOTRO. I am not sure but Lotro may be one of the Grand daddys of F2P and they keep churning out quality content to this day.

   Love the theme park but want it modern with very good Pvp- Just get Gw2, beautifull colors and great exploring, pretty good combat and plenty of PvP make this a game that is really fun, me being an oldie I like GW1 slightly better as I like its PvP a bit more but both games are fun

Tired of these darn themeparks and just want to play an Sandobox, than just download Xyson. You will find yourself in the middle of nowhere and you know what that means Sandbox Heaven, explore! the world is huge

     These are just some of the games that offer either F2P or just pay a little  he,he ,he. On my computer i have all these games and more on my hd and play them all plus eq2, aoc and aion, Of these 3 Aion gives you the best bang for your buck as eq2 and aoc while fine games have really bad F2P options

All the modern games are the same as you described. This is exactly why im so excited about the re release of AC2.

 

All i can say is give it a try, I have playied every game out there and they are all the same except the old school game that will still suck you in an give the the experiance your looking for. AC2 has the best Graphix of the 2.

   AC2 for story?  OK, look i like AC2 but story is not the reason why---TSW or SWTOR= Nuff said

I can turn the pace down now as this game is a sidekick and will stay a sidekick for me. 

But as I went back to it, I could remember the marketing, the hype and the launch a lot clearer than last december. And one thing struck me in the face like a truck. Almost like "willing suspension of disbelif" must be a drug that numbs the brain when you're excited for a game launch...

Star Wars: The Old Republic is - from a technical standpoint - a wreck. 

I purchased a new PC during the year, I7, GTX680, all the good stuff, and upon entering SWTOR I set everything to high, and it performed ok (after having huge troubles last year), but damn, in the light of recent releases like GW2 or Planetside 2, it looks extremely bad. Indoor stuff is blocky, modules stuck together, the world is small and lifeless, there are glitches everywhere. There are on-rails zones with zero choice of diversion...

It really made my jaw drop. I - honestly - said to myself "how on earth could I fall for this a year ago", the game, even now, is terrible...

I mean sure its free now and I don't pay a cent, but paying for this game feels like a really streched expectation now...

In fact, it feels like STO did in 2010.

And I really don't get how games like GW2 can offer that extreme difference in content quantity and quality with just the box price. 

Are developer teams so hugely different in competence? Compared to mobile phones or PC distributors the quality and "bang for the buck"-differences in MMORPGs seem extreme these days.

Everyone's taste are different, I think GW2 is dull compared to GW1 or Tor, I have had no problems with TOR graphics or lag, althought GW2 has a more animated World its gameplay is dull compared to TOR

Actually I can't agree with you. If you like story telling, you will love this game. It does not matter if it's SW or not.

I bought this game because I loved BioWare games: Dragon Age especially so I knew what to expect. The game was everything I expected. I love every minute I spend there, and I played from the pre-launch 1st day.

There are plenty of people who thinks the same way as I do.  And class story is definitely not 1% in this game LOL.

You don't like it, it's fine. I can acctept and respect it, but don't imply that everybody else thinks tha same way.

  Agreed, I do feel bad for the people who were to lazy to do any research or play the beta of Tor, but yes this and TSW are my favorite MMO's , if I want to play a traditional MMO I will play Vanguard which is the best of the traditional MMO's

I spent 6 months making a name for myself as a crafter, providing very specific items. SWG made some very big mistakes but it was and always will be a true sandbox.

 

I also whole heartedly agree that it was a more mature community. The reason is because it wasn't a "on the rails" game. People chose what they wanted to do. Seriously an entertainer was a profession, you could enjoy the game just entertaining and living in the cantina.

Swtor refused to listen to it's star wars fanbase, they further refused to create an immersive game after you level. 

 

That said, swtor is the best single playre game i've ever played. Once i hit 50 i left. I came back for f2p and just unsubbed again. No depth to this game at max level.

  I can certainly appreciate the fact that you liked SWG, but to spend a month working on my house would cause me to commit suicide, you are a sand box person and like many of mmorpg.com posters you like sand box games and that is fine, but when I play I want good combat and SWG had about the worst combat and the lag was bad---best part of SWG for ME was JTL

ability delay still not fixed. Servers still have spasms when a bit of people get on. Most planets are capped at 50-75 players/instance because game starts being unplayable over that number. This one is actually really funny because planets are quite big and usually you see mostly 1-2 players of these 50-75

content updated so slow that its unbelievable. And no, this time around theres no excuse of "voice overs" or "story" because there is none, mission dropbox is your new best friend

Just a bit of fact for you....you are another broken record of hate towards SWTOR. We all can accept you hate the game thats fine and nothing wrong with that. But to come on EVERY SINGLE POST that mentions TOR and bash the game and those who play and enjoy a VIDEO GAME is a joke. Move on like the last guy who was called out for being a broken record. Right now over 500,000 people are enjoying TOR (if only until 2014 from your expert experience) and we would like to apologize that TOR hurt you some how. But good news there are tons of mmos out try one of them .
