Because it isn't archeage

cracks me up how everyone is doomsdaying this.

SoE as a studio has been through this MANY times in the past, first as SISA, then 989, then RedEye which then became Verant, then back to Sony under the SOE name, then Brad quit, formed Sigil and took a large majority of the studio with him who then came back to SoE few years later.

This isn't going to stop development of eqn.  This won't be the end of the developers who are leaving, and it surely won't be the end to SoE/Daybreak as a studio.  Dave G was a marketing guy playing producer, his passion was a little too fake for me.  I've played past games he has ruined (Tribes 2 anyone?) and I was not looking forward to him ruining the EQ Franchise.

This will be a good thing overall.  I am curious to see what Smed will do with the studio direction now without Shu or any of the other bean counters in upper management looking over them.  The part you guys are forgetting is that while Investment firms are not game makers, sometimes that is better as long as the studio is self reliant enough to make a profit.  They will not meddle in the game to make drastic core changes to gameplay that some schlub who has been milking his position in the gaming industry because he happened to be a tester when gaming took off would be able to make under Sony.

Overall I am happy.  The notion that Sony cares more about gamers then an investment firm is laughable at best.  BOTH are companies looking to make money.  Sony execs meddle all the time in the development process when they have no business doing so, I am more optimistic that the investment firm will be less restrictive as long as the studio proves it can handle the responsibility.

as the poster above said I am never happy someone loses their paycheck, with that said after Dave G ruined Tribes 2 I never trusted him again and glad I didn't.  He wasn't helping EQN or EQNL by his marketing speak and hipster pony tail.  He was never a good producer, he should have chased a career in advertising instead.

Open World Sandboxes are bad for the industry?

Funny, its themeparks that have ruled the lay of the land for the last 10 years and the state of mmo's has become stagnant and regurgitated crap.  I would say its the lack of Open Wold Sandboxes that is bad for the industry, further more, the players who play themeparks and don't allow open world sandboxes to actually get developed with the original intent in mind because of all the endless hordes of people bitching it isn't like wow are compounding the problem.

Another thread with nothing but "EQ, SWG, blah, blah, blah"

Move on ffs

no, there was grouping in EQ because you couldn't solo  (Later on soloing became easier if you were either quad kiting wiz/druid or a necro but majority of other classes couldn't).  Someone in this thread has obviously never played EQ during its hayday, ill guess you weren't born yet?

I don't think you can.  You were forced into a server community with games like EQ because everything pretty much required a group to get completed.  In todays market everyone wants WoW WoLTK where you can solo everything but instanced raids, or hardmodes and you never have to really interact with another player..

this leads to problems with reputation meaning nothing, games like EQ had black lists in zones where people who were asshats never got groups, the majority of current mmo players can't even TRY a game without bitching that it isn't some linear, carebear, themepark.  Add a little bit of difficulty or pvp and their heads explode before they even give  it a chance.  Too much entitlement and not enough guts.

Just buy it with cash.

Is it 20 bucks in stores now too? Guess I'll go check out gamestop or Wal-Mart tomorrow and see.

EDIT:  Nm, new player now!  Went to my wife's work today and told her I was going to go hunting for the game on sale and her coworker overheard us and I just paid her 20 and she bought the game key for me with her card.  Noice!

Hey all,

Looking to buy this game on G2A as its around 20 bucks.  I am currently going through a mortgage process to buy some acreage out in the sticks and the mortgage company was very serious about not spending money on any of my revolving credit accounts or savings/checkings until we close escrow as it will require us to submit updated paperwork showing the paper trail.

So when I attempt to buy it, using G2A as the key source and not a 3rd party, I click on pay by phone and enter phone number. It gives me an error that my phone provider is having troubles atm and to try again later, this is the second day of it happening.  I am wondering if Verizon might be the issue and if anyone on Verizon knows if that is, how to enable the ability to purchase items like this through their account interface?

Thanks anyone that can offer some feedback.  At worst I will have to wait a week or two until we are finished closing, so its not a huge issue but now I am more interested in why it isn't working and I wanted to see if anyone here had the same experience and how they fixed it.  Thanks all! =)

pretty easy for me to answer.

Star Wars Game or Sci-Fi based anyway

1 - SWG Pre CU Class system

2 - NGE Sunsetting Feature list (Atmospheric flight, Bioengineering etc)

3 - C9 Combat

4 - Storybricks AI

5 - Landmark Building

6 - Elite Dangerous Space Combat when launched into space

7 - Pre EQ Planes of Power PVE difficulty with non instanced dungeons that have camps, crawls and decent fun raids

8 - DAoC Mordred PVP system w/ Full Loot like EvE where some items can be destroyed by damage

9 - EvE Market / Crafting / Political / Guild Management systems

10 - Tera F2P system where freebies aren't limited in anyway, but paying customers get nice bonuses and monthly stipends of neat things.

11 - World Exploration with SWG style rotating minerals / materials list and benefits for explorers

I installed also today because my son was going to check it out.  Tried to send my first toon I had at launch, a 44 marauder's gold to my new alt I was starting over with my son and I couldn't send credits or more then one item because I am not a paying customer.....

am I complaining?  Not really, I am not the same as OP I don't think I am owed something for my original purchase.. but I sure won't be coming back.  Just not that into that many f2p or preferred restrictions.  It isn't that there is restrictions, its how fucking nit picky they get with them.  Ok if you are, but I won't support it.  /shrug.  Uninstalled so did my son and now we are back to playing Tera.  No biggie, but yes, the restrictions keep players like me and my son away.  It's the truth regardless of how either side wants to spin it.  It is a bad model in my eyes the way they do their f2p, punishing free players instead of rewarding paying customers with extra.  You can still make tons of money without restricting access to normal players by offering a nice package for those who subscribe every month like Tera does.

Dark Age of Camelot pre ToA and NF. It was by far the best pvp game ever made, and nothing will ever come close.

still remember the first time I went out on my druid with a raid group to the old frontiers and seeing a thanes AE hammer dropping down, my jaw hit the ground and I was in love with the game ever since.

1) Dark Age of Camelot

2) EQ1 before Planes of Power

3) SWG at sunsetting.  I was a pre cu player who quit over nge, but I went back in the last few months before it went down, and holy shit they added so much content  that I felt like the only thing Pre-CU offered was the class system.  I miss the class system but all the content was much better.

4) EQ2 Post Desert Xpac, launch was horrible.

5)  EvE

With Rift their support and service was okay ...

Now ask yourself what is the difference between the two games?

During Rift's Vanilla days, Trion had an incredible reputation.  But people said it wasn't sustainable. I guess they were right.

because during that time they were their own "company", now they are owned by investment firms and pensions.  Bean counters own the company now and decisions will always be made that bring in the most beans, even at the total demise of their market brand.  Sad Really but the investors are just raping trion for everything they can before they sell it off I bet.

ArcheAge fell apart in other parts of the world before Trion launched it, it's not like people who had already played it didn't warn everyone else. It seems to be more an issue with ArcheAge than only Trion.

It's a Korean game, everyone knows they always use a very aggressive P2W cash shop style business model.

I'm more surprised that some didn't see it coming when everyone else who had played it warned people before the Western launch.

Before the launch many people who played it said: "It's a P2W game"

Everyone ignored it

After launch "omg, it's a P2W game"

Yes.....people had told you a million times before launch. Maybe listen next time.

If anything Korean games tend to be even more P2W in the West than they are in Korea or China, usually there is a more severe backlash in those regions if they go overboard. In the West people buy $60 founders packs before even having played the game or read any review. The same happened with that SoE landmark game, players in the West much more easily part with their money and Korean companies know this.

the difference is?

In Russian, using Google translate I actually got help within hours of submitting a ticket.  They knew I was english speaking and tried to respond back in kind with translator, they were kind, helpful and actually looked into the problem quickly.  With Trion, you wait 2-3 weeks for a response and like in my case, I was updating the ticket everyday with updated info (it was related to a bug, I wasn't hounding them for a response but updating on what was changing in the situation) and then you get a response finally after all those weeks and its "I am responding to see if you still need help".  Reply with in seconds to that and had to wait another 2 weeks until I started twittering about how bad the CS was and including Scapes twitter account in the process.  They then finally look at my ticket, they say they see nothing wrong and bam ticket is closed.

So, as someone who played in 3 territories before NA, I did warn Trion.  I did warn other players about the bugs, but I can live with the hacks and the bugs, as long as they make an attempt to fix them.  RU tried.  RU forced XLGames to do things they wanted, they never used the excuse "We can't cause XLGames won't let us".. its why RU lasted so long on 1.0, while with Trion we get excuses, no responses and overall stupid decisions like unbanning banned players for a "Second chance"

yes while I played the other territories they had issues, they made actual attempts at curbing a lot of the issues while Trion uses excuses and unbans players who were caught cheating.

So I'm reading how the PC controls suck ass?  Should I wait for that to get fixed? No mouse look etc.

Fixed dumb grammar

there is mouse look you just do like you do in an mmo, hold down the right mouse button and look around, the only time pc controls suck  for me is when you go into tactical view because it can be a bit confusing at first... but as others have said, setting up your tactical page on followers will negate really ever having to use that unless you want to pause and get something to drink or move characters somewhere else.

never liked Dragon Age.  Like Dragon Age Inquisition.

Does it have bugs?  Yes.

Should you buy it?  If you are one of those dudes/chicks that always hates the new "Version" of itself because the "original" is always better, then no.  If you can't handle the possibility of a few bugs that MAY crop up until a patch hits, then no.  If you don't like MMO questing, movement, combat, then no you problabley won't like this either.  It doesn't fully feel like an mmo in terms of mechanics, but its darned close.

That said, I am level 7, been playing a few hours now and I still log in and enjoy it for a an hour or so a night.  There are random issues that can crop up, but then again, some other issues people here reported I have no problems with (performance, controls etc) and the little issues that have come up weren't game breaking.

In the end, 99% of the time I say if you are on the fence and its an EA product say no.  But I was bored, it was on sale for 40 bucks and I figured I had nothing to do for a couple weeks so I bought it, not displeased I did at all.  Not super excited, but then again I have never been a dragon age fan so the excitement wasn't there to being with.  Overall I am good with the purchase.

I would have to say that my favorite moment was during release, exploring Nek Forest with friends and coming across the giants in the zone for the first time.  Why I am excited for this expansion?  Because I get excited for all of the EQ2 expansions, only this time I can't afford it (in the middle of buying a house) so winning it would be epic.  If I don't, no biggie either, tons of content to be played even without the expansion.

appreciate the chance either way to win.  Thanks all for the contest.

Believers who refuse to deal with their own religious spokespeople shouldn't be so willing to point the finger at another's.

If I buy a new car from my local dealer, even though I know it's not owned by the factory that made it, if it turns out to need a major recall item repaired I'm going to go back to the dealer and expect them to get it fixed, right now, especially if it's still under warranty.

I might even be substantially pissed at the dealer, even though I know they didn't make the car, but because they told me I was buying a good, solid dependable vehicle, when clearly they misrepresented it if I'm now driving a car that potentially kill me if a part fails.  I actually have this situation here in Florida with the recent airbag defect, my car has one, but dealer can't schedule me in any time soon to replace it.

Does anybody point blame on the dealership though?  The manufacturers reimburse the dealerships for the labor and parts that are required to fix the defects, so the dealership is at no fault or liability for a recall.

The analogy is appropriate, but the customers are less aware of how things work with imported games.  Trion is the dealership, the problems are not their doing, the fix is not their responsibility, but they will be the ones implementing said fix to NA servers.  The difference is that Trion are the ones being blamed and held accountable for the whole chain.

except that isn't how it works.

Trion is the one making the MAJORITY of money off NA Archeage and they knew full well they were bringing to you, the customer, as a broken product.  So while you are excusing them because they use the excuse they have no creative control, it would be like the dealership buying a broken Car, knowing it was broken during putting their dealer stickers on, then selling it to you and saying "It's a great product!" then 2 months after you drive it home all the tires start falling off and you take it back only to be told:  "Sorry, we can't fix the tires because the manufacturer has to make them first"

What difference does it make to people?

Well, first of all, it's about making people less ignorant, which is a difficult thing to do anyway. Basically, it's like someone suing Wal-Mart because they bought a scooter there, the wheel fell off it and hurt their kid.

The only ignorant ones here are the ones who think a company would put their name behind a product with zero input or control over its content.  That is suicide 101 for ANY company.  They sold you on a lie, a lie that helps them out just as the claims of DDoS every time the servers start to lag or go down.

They have more control over the product as the publisher then you think, and if they don't, they don't because as a company they were too ego driven or not competent enough to understand brand management; in which case we should stop supporting them as a company.

You're totally right, they can simply drop the game entirely if they wanted to. I'm sure that, at this point, they are probably thinking that it's simply not worth the headache. I'm not saying that the publisher has zero control over what is put into the game, but they don't play an active part in the development of the game. They don't have immediate access to crack open a game and change how it fundamentally works.

You sound no better when it comes to someone buying into BS and propaganda. If you want, you could easily shut me up by citing, say, 3 games which varied significantly between two geographical regions (so outside globalization and internationalization).

I say it because I played in Korea, I played in Japan and I played in RU and ALL the problems that exist today, existed in each and every locale before this one.  If trion cared about the game, you as a customer, or its name, they would have made sure all of this was either investigated, or fixed before a US release.

Then you count Alpha, where HUNDREDS of people, myself included were posting everyday things that needed to be fixed and the threads got closed, or we got banned.  The fact that even after what has happened in the last two months there are people on this forum defending them as a company shows how "ignorant" the consumer is and how "smart" Trion was for playing so many people like a fiddle.  It's funny how Trion gets all the praise when someone goes right, but when it goes wrong all the sudden its back to blaming XLGames and DDoS attacks.

No, Trion is the publisher for NA, Trion is the face for Archeage in the West, and Trion is EXACTLY who should be getting the brunt of all the heat because they went into this knowing FULL WELL how bad XL Games handling of this game was in other territories.  TRION is taking your money, not XL Games.
