Just replaced my dead 780Ti with a 980TI and finished in the > 96% range of 3DMark. My old 2700k@4.8Ghz on air is still kicking butt.

Cant see any reason to upgrade a CPU until Intel ups the herbz - I couldn't care less about green improvements.

Fury X - how could you even consider that after the reviews. They had to slap water cooling on it to get it to within 5% of a 980TI.

Imagine a water cooled 980TI.

Their first problem was they over hyped and just plain lied. They produced a chart with it beating the 980 TI in every game which I'm sure they knew wasn't true or they knew they manipulated settings to make the result. Lieing is never held in hi regard.

Second, the water cooler is a problem. Putting a water cooler on it tells us it is working hard just to produce this level of performance. You wouldn't put a water cooler on it if you didn't need too.

When the air cooled fury comes out we'll see where the real stock card performance landed and why they had an oh shit experience and whacked a water cooler on it to produce they Fury X.

Game looks amazing but I don't think something like this can keep be going long term. Just looks too mindless to me.

The reason some of us played Quake World, Quake 2/3 and Unreal Tournement for over a decade is because playing against real people is never mindless. Plus all the player built maps added to the diversity of environments.

Today, with the Facebook gamers skill cap, we run around killing 3 phase AI bosses or the occasional PvP dominated by level, class, or gear differences.

A return to this type of gaming might just be the panacea.

I hadn't played on a console since C64. Bought a PS4 at Christmas, tried playing with the analogue joystick for 3 weeks, Ebayed it - I cant even see how anyone thinks a console is comparable to a PC.

On a side note, what I was really looking forward to was being able to play with friends on the lounge but it seems now days you cant even do that on consoles (or at least very rare).

Life is simple at its core.

Let me explain the simplicity of men to you.

When we see a human this is our thought process:

  1. Is it female?
  2. Is there another man having sex with her that I may have to contend with?
  3. Try to have sex with her
  4. Move to next female

We aren't hard to manage when you understand our basic instincts.

It may be blunt but its that simplicity that populated the Earth in the early dangerous times and it still lingers in most men today.

The female one looks like this:

  1. Is it male?
  2. Does it have resources?
  3. Can it protect me?
  4. Have sex with him
  5. Move to next male if 2 or 3 cease to exist

So to avoid the situation its very simple. Either pretend you aren't female or make it known in some way that a man is already having sex with you.

Some dude trying to fire up a frenzy about an xp potion in a video game to make money thru clickbait.

Meanwhile life happens outside.

Interview with Paul and Ru: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-06-05-blizzards-paul-sams-joins-ready-at-dawn-as-new-ceo

Apparently he had already made the decision to leave blizz and move to austin before taking the position. He and Ru are friends so things just lined up well enough for him to make the jump.

I've been lurking the wow forums and a few people are taking it as a sign blizz is in decline due to Greg Street (Lead Designer on WoW) and Rob Pardo (CCO) also having left.

I don't know if its a sign but those two new developers are terrible. Not only are they dumbing the game down to phone app level but they are arrogant along the way.

A lot of people didn't like Greg street but it seems a lot of people would rather have him back now.

Those two new developers cant do the job of Street on his worse day.

Its winter here in Australia, hopefully AMD release a new card soon to replace my electric heater.

I joke, I have ducted air conditioning but you know what I mean :p

A huge part of the problem is actually player diversity. No longer are only like minded people playing MMORPG's.  Now we have a dozen different types of players all expected different things and disagreeing with each other on what constitutes a good game.

We'll have a great open ended MMORPG when the players can agree on what that actually means.

There has never been completely like-minded players. There has always been diversity. Let us take this "dozen different types of players" as literal, because it is probably real close to what really is. Where are the dozen different types of products to appeal to those dozen different types of audiences? Here is the issue.

Complete rubbish you have no idea how things evolve.

Everything starts with people passionate about the thing, then the passionate like minded early adopters come on board followed by Joe average when the thing becomes cool. Joe averages attraction is rarely about the thing but more about the cool / wannabee part of it.

Joe average eventually destroys (or drags down) everything.

It'll be interesting to see this implemented in a ten year old game. I imagine the initial cost will be astronomical.

Me too - with 10yrs of accumulated gold potentially I could play for free for a long time.

It could also be an even worse thing with kids syncing even more of their lives into the game just to get a free sub.

But working with actual investors also adds much more pressure to deliver monetary results, usually at the cost of achieving the developer's vision.

Crowd funders aren't investors / shareholders - you don't understand how Companies work.

Crowd funders are donators.

Garrison activities have to be the worst excuse for content I've experienced. They are like some type of Facebook slot machine game - make your choices, press a button, check back later to see if your RNG roll won or lost.

Same as pet battles.

Get back to story line and journey ffs.

Websites have gone the same way as MMO's and that's why they are dieing  - recycling sub standard content. In the early days (when everything goes thru its honeymoon period) we had dedicated sites with great writers and loyal followers. In the pursuit of money they have just about all (even news sites etc) moved to networks of freelance writer funnels. The problem is any random with an Internet connection can write something now and what we end up with is recycling/funnels of content of which 90% is just plain some personal rambling of freelancers. You see the same rubbish networked everywhere. Everyone has gone for quantity over quality most probably due to the click bait profit model.

A satire of a TES fanboy, yes.

Originally posted by Iselin Funny how all this stuff is coming from Australia. Did someone forget to tell me that they are now the center of the MMO universe? Why aren't we getting similar reports from NA & Europe? Maybe Australia somehow got on ZOS' bad side and they're perma-banning the whole country. I think my rumor fits the facts better, Meanwhile back in Canada, Bestbuy is happily continuing to sell boxes online and all the stores in my area have them in stock: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/the-elder-scrolls-online-pc-mac/10206003.aspx?path=70fafac87d7f4de3a02c031247ac012den02

Australian Consumer Law.

Oh really? I guess the rest of us don't have any of them there consumer laws lol... what horseshit.

Not as good as ours buddy - we got cash refunds for cancelling you guys signed away your right to a refund because your consumer laws allow companies to do that to you.

I got my full refund two weeks after release.

What a load of rubbish. The problem is there is no journey anymore.

Back in Vanilla there were 60 levels, a blue dungeon set to farm and then two raids to work thru all while crafting, earning mounts and world bosses etc. This journey took months to work thru.

Fast forward to today and you level in 3 days and then hop on the grind treadmill for another year while doing facebook level content reading trade chat IRC

Thats the problem - I kind of wish they would reset the whole game every year.

I grew up on Quake, Quakeworld, Quake 2/3 and Unreal Tournament - I now also play MMO's.

People who talk about MMO's as some type of competitive PvP game are kidding themselves. If you want to test your skill against a single player or team (as in CTF) play an FPS (NOT CS or COD etc. they are a spray gun joke). Don't waste you time trying to argue that MMO's should have some type of semi-half arsed aiming system that makes you FEEL like you are aiming.

The whole twitch terminology was invented by people with shithouse aims to make themselves feel good about how bad they are at aiming. Did I get the odd twitch hit? for sure but over all I was better at holding a lightning gun over a target while it runs/jumps around than most.

MMO's are casual hobbies that can be played with half the attention and should be left that way rather than modifying them to be some fake arsed imaginary aiming game because of some audience that is half way between the skill required to play a real aiming FPS competitively and a pseudo feel good pretend aim MMO.

Remove the swimming on land feature.

Remove the NPC creature anti gravity boots.

I have no doubt Win 8 is better than Win 7 under the hood however the problem from my perspective is purely the interface. Live tiles make sense on a phone or a tablet with no other input method however on my desktop it makes no sense at all. Firstly, I don't sit close enough to my monitor(s) and would have to lean in to touch the screen which would make the whole experience awkward i.e. leaning in/out typing etc. so if I had to resort to the mouse there's no point. Secondly, I can perform tasks much faster with a mouse or commands than reaching in and touching the screen.

I built this machine two years ago and with Win 7 I have never had a single BSOD - if I was to upgrade my desktop OS then it would need to offer a productivity or usability upgrade not just a pretty interface. I get it, they are trying to unify to reduce development complexity / time / money however they probably should of looked at a more universal cross platform input system.

I still don't know why they are so resistant to a desktop live tiles system with a full screen mode - start menu live tiles seems like they have the shits and are reluctantly saying FU.

The reason why wow dungeons are no longer interesting is because they dumbed them down so anyone can complete them. Its like playing a game on easy, just no challenge so you can simply rush forward without any strategy. Noone made those kinds of complaints during TBC launch when heroic dungeons could kill you.

I've played WoW since 2004 and am in a Heroic raiding Guild. I remember when Cata came out and we hit the new Heroics in blues and had to work as a team to clear them. CC was back, smart pulls where back, mana management was back we absolutely loved it. We all know what happened though? The huge mass of average gamers cried their heart out on the forums until they go nerfed. Unfortunately the power is where the money is and that's the mass of average players. I'm not saying its wrong or bad its just nature at work. I may be good at gaming and some other things but I'm equally bad at others.

If you fit a normal distribution curve over gamers say roughly 25% below average, 50% average and 25% above average it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that the numbers of average and below are what pays the bills so very few businesses are going to focus on the above average.

I like games to be difficult however I'm also a realist - we will always get selectable difficulty in solo games but its going to be very rare indeed to get a hard difficult in an MMO applied to the masses. Moreover it will be selectable such as Heroic raiding is.
