This is exactly the same crap we've been doing for years.  Just you and the fanbois like you are too blinded to the fact that all these DEs are is re-skinned kill, gather, protect, and escort quests just shows how far the community has degenerated into a bunch of easily fooled lemmings.  The big difference is there isn't a "?" Over the quest givers head, but it has been replaced by a bigass circle when the DE is active.   Oooooh, so revolutionary.  They are nothing but the traditional quest system, you are just too blinded  to see it.

The only revolutionary thing about them is they have fooled the suckers into believing they are revolutionary.

If you simplify it, than absolutely it is the exact same thing that we've been doing for years. And you have the right to look at things however you want.

I however, would rather not be simple. I would rather look at all the variable and points AND how they work together.

Imagine this. Two people go hunting. The first person comes home and tells his wife "When I went out this morning, it was cold, and the wind was blowing from the north. I knew that I wouldn't be able to circle around and approach from the south, so for tonight, we are going to have to live with rabbit stew and I'll try for big game again tomorrow."

The second person comes home and tells his wife "Mog kill bunny, you cook"

Those two situations sound completely different to me, even though the end result might be the same, but thats because I'm choosing to NOT be simple.

To be honest, I think GW2 has the "simple" version of quests.  I think they somehow managed to further casualize trivialize and dumb down the whole process.

In GW2 there isn't any need to know where to go, who to return to, or what you're really doing.  It really amounts to wandering aimlessly and seeing a bunch of people zerging something, and then pressing buttons until a bar fills and the game hands you a gold star just like the rest of the class.

I agree. It is an oversimplification (as with much of the game) that just makes it incredibly dull to play.  It looks pretty though, I'll give it that.

Susan has every right to be angry about sexism. It's clearly an important issue to her.

We also shouldn't disregard her concerns simply because we do not see what it is she is talking about. We should try to zoom out and look at the entire issue before passing judgement on anything that is said about it.

I myself do not believe the problem is as broad and general as Susan seems to make out, and the article she has written is guilty of hypocrisy in many ways. I also feel like I'm being tarnished with the same brush as the minority of men guilty of such antisocial behaviour; that's offensive.

Let's be honest about it, the article is a rant based on very limited 'evidence'.  It is an issue that I have never encountered outside of the normal realms of trolling, which happens to everyone.

In wolfteam (mmofps) you fight werewolfs but it is not great.  WOW has that wolf class.  GW2 has the charr which are more catty than wolfy but similar.  In Skyrim (not an mmo) you can become a werewolf and a vampire.

I was kind of hoping werewolves and vampires had died a death, they're just too many of them in pop culture these days.

Really this is getting out of hand, can't you hear yourself how this sounds really dumb when you wrote it?

Of course It's all about kill shit, gather shit, crafting shit, pick shit, protect shit.....what else is there to do in a game in any game???????

I take it you have ideas how to make features that no one ever had in their wildest dreams right, It sounds like it with your respons.

When you feel the need to start your post with a pointless insult, you've already well and truly lost.

That aside, the whole point of something being "revolutionary" is that it has found a way to do something new, and not just rested on the "what else is there to do?" argument.

PQs were revolutionary, a concept that worked (sorta, I ran into more than my fair share that couldn't be finished due to bugging or lack of population, but whatever) and added something completely new to the MMO formula.

Rifts, adding the notion of invasions and zone events, were an evolution of that basic concept.

DEs, like Champion's version (albeit Cryptic never tried to make a big deal of them), being nothing really more than a renaming of PQs, are neither revolutionary nor evolutionary.

And that, of course, is where the argument is -- for reasons that wholly escape me, some argue that DEs are somehow something new and not simply a near copy-and-paste of PQs. I've yet to see anyone articulate a good reason for this belief.

Read what he wrote then you understand.

I think you might be waiting a while longer.

so it's are own fault we get harrassed ? because we chose to make a female character or a female name? so if I make a male character with a manly name I ll be safe right? .... but wait ....what happens when I need to use voice communication to warn my team mates their geting flanked, or when leading a raid ?

wow! just wow!

dont game with people on your team that care if you have a vagina or penis?

just a theory

I think you missed the point?

but thats just a theory to

no its exactly the point.

If I am in a guild with a bunch of teenagers, i expect them to act like teenagers.

I dont join a guild and expect them to change because of who I am.

Since when raiding I tend to enjoy a family friendly atmosphere because I think it promotes the best raid experience I dont join guilds that harbor many e-peen'ers.

If you are in a guild, and they dont respect you, you are in the wrong guild. They dont HAVE to change, you are choosing to associate with people who don't value you.

Im not going to have pity for anyone who subjects themselves to such treatment and then says I am a bad person for not stopping it. This game is their safe place as much as it is yours. MMO's are a beautiful thing, they are so big there is a guild for EVERYONE. but not every guild is for you, nor should it be.

You have ignore functions for any ingame chat, and for something above and beyond the realm of sanity you have report features.

In a video game you allow yourself to be a victim, its not the real world, you can choose who is around you.

You've hit the nail on the head, here.

It's not about civility, it's about power.  The moral supremacy of women is a vestige of the past, and society should be unfettered from those shackles as surely as any other "old world" social ideology.

Equality would dictate equal access and equal opportunity.  In the case of gaming, mission accomplished.  But, that's not enough.  This is a case where a group believes that they are entitled to special treatment, and should have the authority to force others to change their behavior to whatever suits them.

Make no mistake, that entitlement is about power.

Agree entirely.

Millions? Yeah I can also go and pull numbers out of my ass. You don't think Blizzard hasn't done any research about it? If they knew they would really get millions of players on vanilla servers AND keep them, they would open those in a heartbeat.

It would undermine their game in its current state.  It would almost be an admission that they have taken the game in the wrong direction or dumbed it down, or at least the press would treat it as such.  It would be a PR disaster.

It would also risk losing revenue and activity from the those players who stick with it because it is wow, but never-the-less are underwhelmed by the direction it has taken.  An emptier world in their expansions is not good for business.

This is the best explanation of why Blizzard would never do this that I have seen. Right on the money!

Exactly this.

Why is it so important for you have "man" time? What is it about women that frightens you?

You collate 'fear of losing something' and 'fear of someone'.

It is not women that frighten him. It is the loss of a space where you can let your hair down. Where you can relax without having to watch every word and action you do.

because whenever men and women mix, men adjust their behaviour to fit the expectations of women. The atmosphere shifts.

And every now and then a man just wants to let himself go for a few hours. That was the entire principle behind 'male spaces'. Which are apparently a bad thing nowadays. 'Female spaces' on the other hand, are perfectly fine, and always to be respected.

How was that again? It's only sexist if men do it.

Why would a man have to watch every word and action he does? Unless that man is considering a love relationship with said woman (only because of the concept of friend-zoning), I don't see any reason why the man should behave any differently in presence of women. If said woman dislikes you because you act like who you are, then that's her loss.

Basic human nature. Its as true for women as it is for men. Its down at the biological instinct level.  In most people, they aren't even aware of it.  You see the same thing in most other animals though out the world. Humans are part of that world, and what makes us the dominant species is our intelligence and the tools that flow from that.  But underneath of all that, we have the same biological drives.

Those color and influence much of our perceptions and interactions.  The two primary fundamental factors in human interactions are sex and power. Just about everything else flows from those two.

We are also a social animal, and we have elvolved to rely upon our pack to warn us of danger and assist us in hunting and gathering.  So your argument is slightly flawed.

The DE's in GW2 are very revolutionary. Take for example, one of the norn Dynamic Events in the starting area.  It starts off with a norn woman wanting to collect wyrm eggs for food. Now she asks everyone in the area to help by retrieving as many wyrm eggs as possible, and she will use the eggs to make some food for everyone. Needless to say, she needs a lot of eggs, and the more people that take part, means she will need even more eggs. Once she has enough, she will say so and then give people a chance to bring the last of the eggs they've collected to her.  Yeah, thats right, she doesn't just stop and leave, she gives everyone a chance to participate even though she's reached her quota.

Then she goes back to the lodge to prepare a wondrous meal for everyone, but the scent of the eggs attracts wyrms to the lodge! Yes, this is a lodge with NPC vendors and everything, and everybody has to help fend off the wyrm attack! The attack almost seems endless as wave after wave of wyrms attack the lodge. The bodies of wyrms, and norn litter the ground in front of the lodge.  And once the assault is finally over, the eggs are ruined and the woman has to admit that it might not have been such a good idea to collect all those eggs. Another norn comments that the fight was magnificent (LOL! That is sooo norn) and before long the woman decides to go collect more eggs, and the event has gone through it's full revolution. Full circle, so to speak.

What is dynamic about this? It's a god damn quest chain! Get me eggs, okay we got eggs, ohh no we're being attacked! Defend from attack - okay go  get more eggs!

Start again.

Do you know what Dynamic means? Is this even for real?

Characterized by continuous change, activity, or progress

You just told me exactly what happens in the event, no divergence, no change, absolutely nothing about it was truly dynamic!

The location, the same. The activity, the same. The steps taken to complete the activity, the same!

This is what an MMO gamers is happy with these days! No wonder this genre is nose diving.

In your typical quest chain, the quest giver will always be there, ready to give you your task, tracking your progress along the chain. Go to the lodge any number of times and he will always be there, at the most wandering around. In the particular DE the OP described, you go to the lodge and you will be met with different possible state:

1.) The girl is asking around for help with egg collection

2.) The girl is no longer there, as she is gathering eggs not too far away

3.) The lodge is under attack by Gryphons

4.) Eggs are cooked, and the girl is selling omelettes.

Quest chain or not, scripted or not, repeating or not, you simply CANT say that this is the same experience as a traditional Quest system. This is why we are happy. We are able to appreciate the strive to move away from traditional systems. People like you though, apparently want something you cannot summarize or predict. You're gonna be staying bitter towards the genre for a much longer time, I'm afraid.

This is exactly the same crap we've been doing for years.  Just you and the fanbois like you are too blinded to the fact that all these DEs are is re-skinned kill, gather, protect, and escort quests just shows how far the community has degenerated into a bunch of easily fooled lemmings.  The big difference is there isn't a "?" But it is the manner in which it is delivered that matters.  By your argument you may as well subsist on gruel because it keeps you alive.

This is an article based on a handful of tweets out of a population of millions.  If I were to focus on the vocal minority and the internet trolls I could make a case for any sector of society being somehow unenlightened or bigoted in one way or another.

For me the article has almost zero merit.  My first post so I thought I would start on a controversial note.
