[Column] General: Roleplaying and D&D
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/13/13 12:24:06 PM
MMO's don't have much RPG left in them. True, totally true. SWTOR did not even bother to include chat bubbles, and Guild Wars made you use your effin forum name so naming (key to establshing role) was totally lost. Agreed - RP is not for MMO's anymore. My friends who I used to table top with as a kid, moved to MMO's with in college, and still raid with weekly. (20 years playing with 5 buddies) We have gone back to tabletop/pen and paper. Weekly we are using ROLL20 to play pathfinder, 4th ed, ShadowRun, and now SW Edge of Empire (LOVE IT). MMO's are great fun, but they stopped being about RP when we left Firiona vie. |

Re-roll to FV back in the day. I still miss you FV.

Was talking about the day EQ launched the FV hardcore RP server and how awesome it was. I wish other MMOs would be that brave. You, had to reroll. No transfers. Only one character (none of that “toon” BS..these were characters). That was it, no alts or twinks. You grew this one from zero or went away. Everyone was so broke in those first weeks. If you had banded armor you were the shit. Limited /yell /shout – no zone wide ‘TRAIN’ Name enforcement. ‘Helicopter McChickenhead’ did not fly. A GM would be on him so fast. RP players. If you did not RP, they scolded you, would KS you, and chase you off. The FV server was our end of the playground, play kick ball with us or go away. It is a vintage game now, but man I loved it at one point. I wish other MMOs would be that brave. |

Just tried to log in again for the first time in months. Your points are all still valid for me as well. It is one big DPS zerg fest in WvW, and no RPG going on in the rest of the game. I did not enjoy how they handle heals. The account name visable to everyone killed RP. The total lack of effort/acknowledgement of RP or potentially a RP server. At the end of the day, just not right for me. |

Playing again and having fun!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/25/13 12:15:13 PM
Totally agree. My friends and I came back to SWTOR after giving guild bore II (zzzzzzz) some time. We changed servers and started from scratch. The increased population, community, amazing story lines, and lack of shocking bugs like at launch has been great. We have debated how we could be enjoying it so much more. Really how?
The team at BW took a good bit of heat with the game, layoffs, and launch issues. Some of it was valid. Some of those folks needed to go do something else after those mistakes. Consequences are reality in life. I hope they fix a few more things, continue to gain momentum, and make it more fun. |
