Dark elves reside in the underworld of Norrath, and are the children of Innoruuk.

When looking at a concept art drawing of the god of hate it is a deal easier to make out the horns than if you look at the screenshots of the in-game model.

Just about NOTHING of that picture looks hardcore.

It isn't the artists fault, that's EQNext's style and SoE told them to do it that way.

The concept art is for EverQuest 1. The hardcore aspect I was referring to is that if dark elves are truely children of Innoruuk then it would be expected for them to have horns. On a side note I remember being level 50 and nearly wetting myself at the sight of this god during a raid.

My understanding is the iPad version was very very buggy. The PC version should be fine imo.

My stepson had been begging to play WoW.

I told him that he needs to play a F2P MMO before I consider spending money on him.

I asked him why he doesnt play the F2P MMO anymore. He said, "It doesnt give you anything." I told him that you need to level up to do more things. He said, "Ya I did level up and it still doesnt give you anything." I said well it has to give you something while your playing.

The reply I get is, "It gives you different monsters to fight and area to level in, I already had that."

*pokerface* Did I just get owned?

Exactly.  How can they get esports involved when there is rampant cheating in the game.

MLG is the same league that encouraged cheating in Halo 2 competitive play.

The review was entertaining but I think he took the enthusiasm to the next degree. The game is O.K. it doesnt feel very MMO like yet I think after a couple major patches it will be great. A week after I bought GW2 I went back to EQ1 which I have been away from for 5 years, I refuse to play WoW with its panda's and pokemon.

I believe the reason for lack of response is a lot to read and also people wont be able to say "Guild Wars 2 is the game for you" to this post.

From the looks of it your looking for a MMO that is scifi theme to play a warrior without getting everything handed to you so that you have a sense of accomplishment. I do have a few games to suggest.

Anarchy Online: Dated but it fits the bill for what your looking for and offers a F2P option so you can try it out first. I used to play this years ago but stopped because of shadowlands was EZ-Mode for leveling characters. If you can get into the atmosphere of the game which is rich and dark it will be a very interesting experience as a melee character. You may want to play an Enforcer.

Neocron 2: This game just recently went free and looks like a fun scifi shooter game with some depth and a small cult following.

SWTOR: Pretty much speaks for itself, I canceled my subscription because it felt like a singleplayer rpg which is not worth $15 a month. It had some pretty solid gameplay but I felt I was playing the clone wars kid MMO because of the cartoony graphics.

I as well am looking for the same as you but have nobody to play with so if you do find something send me a PM and I will go as well if you wish.

If the game wasn't so darn fun, people wouldn't be up in arms about not being able to play it :p

Made me lol that is a valid point.

People are easily forgetting the days of 56k modems and getting a phone call every 30 min causing a disconnect (or paying for a 2nd phone line just to avoid that). The amount of technical crap I had to put up with to play EQ1 but I still loved the game. I miss the days of having no prior information about a game's release or "launch" where you could just randomly go to walmart and see a awesome game on the shelf. For this game I took advantage of the newegg flash sale, I dont have access to the game till it is mailed to me, even though I am not charged for the purchase until it ships I still have to deduct it out of my checkbook which is to me the same as pre-purchasing it.

There will be no backlash, GW2 is B2P they just want initial sales and a couple microtransactions. At this point it is too late for them to fail.

I'd tell you some, but you'll just say the graphics aren't good enough so I'm not going to.

he plays DayZ that game looks like battlefield 1942.. anyway the game i would tell u to try out is Darkfall Online.. look it up on http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/4 and check out the video on first page.. its aweosme (FYI buy the north american client if u decide to buy, more populated.)

I agree Darkfall is good for immersion and it can really get the heart pounding. Sadly its nearly impossible to catch up to veterans of the game.

What people dont realize is if you believe this is a fraudulent double charge made in error by a merchant you can highlight the charge on your credit card statement write the words "Dispute Charge" then mail it in to creditor and that will stop any interest and late charges on a credit card. The only thing you have to worry about is if the charge is legitamite it is also fraudulent to make the claim knowing it is a correct charge.

I just subscribed for FFXIV to give it a shot because I love final fantasy. My biggest issue is I work the night shift on east coast of US and my only playtime available is the first half of the day. Which server should I choose that isnt completely piled up with japanese groups? I havent seen a single english speaking person yet on Masamune the couple times that I have logged on. Also I cant get anymore Leve's after I only completed one, how do I get more?

Any help would be appreciated, I cant wait to put some hours into the game. I just want to pick the right server.

EQ1 vs EQ2

I have played EQ1 from Kunark to Gates of Discord (at a top tier raid level). My experience for EQ2 is a iksar bruiser leveled to 55 mostly solo with little old raid experience.

The biggest difference is the requirement of groups. In EQ1 you will get smeared on the ground into a pulp if you go against an equal leveled monster. Only certain classes can solo w/ ease but even then it will take them ages to level. The reason I quit EQ1 is a prime example of the difficulty.

Uqua pre-patch raid you zone into a tiny room and will be trained within 5 min by mobs constantly that hit for thousands. Did I mention that upon entering you get a miasma debuff that makes all of your stats 1? The only way to get the miasma off you is to loot an item off the mobs you killed; 1 mob 1 item. After you survive that your entire raid force (of about 70~) will be in a TINY room which has a door and a table with four key's on it. Every 10 seconds the lock changes and a random person will be whispered which key is safe. If the incorrect key is picked everybody dies.

It is a very fun game to explore and quite the adrenaline rush, I personally prefer it over EQ2 as it is way too easy after they nerfed it to hell and back.

AA's in EQ2 are only in hundreds. AA's in EQ1 are in the thousands. Nuff said.

Just stick with everquest. Its going free to play, and that means the servers are going to be packed. I think it goes free on the 16th. Besides EQ is the best.

The OP was asking for Pre-Lost Dungeons of Norrath. SoE has butchered the game completely away from its greatness why would be want to do F2P? It is like getting spit in the face.

I too seek this holy grail of MMO's. LDoN was a very fun time. I time where curiosity wiped your entire group because some greedy mage was trying to ninja a treasure chest. Sadly this time has come and gone. I cannot tell you what would be exactly comparible but I can tell you what is close to what you want and what you might enjoy.

Fantasy based (atleast not sci fi)

Dark Age of Camelot (Traditional Server) - This game was active during the same time period in EQ's prime I had many real life friends leave EQ for this game. I cant say that I enjoy being bludgeoned by zergs in RvR but it is a very fun game and the graphics are beautiful like an aged wine.

Age of Conan - Action based that would get your heart rate going if you play on the PvP server, not as punishing as EQ1 but this game still keeps a great fantasy theme even if it has its flaws.

Strong community and large population

Both have strong community. DAoC doesnt have an insane population but the amount of players per server feels just right. AoC has a healthy population since it has gone F2P.

Pay to Play preferred

Both games have P2P features. AoC P2P is optional but nice.

Not theory crafted to death

AoC is very unpredictable when it comes to damage. Cant say the same for DAoC.

Non korean grindfest or imagery (preferred)

N/A

More adult community 20+

AoC has boobs. DAoC has an older crowd probably mostly in 30's.

Released recently (6 months) preferred

Both have been out for atleast a year most definitely.

If you happen to find something that you really like even if it isnt what I have listed send me a PM I would love to hear what you picked.

How are Rift's gimmicks? They're dynamic gameplay features that are optional and add to the game's story. The major invasions are even better. Rather than just your typical MMO where the world is lifeless and your only options are to quest, dungeon crawl, and pvp... you get something that is out of the norm and adds life to the zone with rewards that are very useful. I don't think you really gave Rift the attention it deserved... especially if you haven't played it since beta. Try it, a lot has changed snce then and it's a completely different game once you hit 50... believe me, it's worth it.

Okay good arguement there I see what you mean. In regards to Ragnarok Online I played it when it was P2P back in the day and it was pretty good but its the chibiness. City of Heroes is a solid game but I dont like playing a game in tights forever on my character. Correction for DDO & LOTRO in -my- opinion the graphics are terrible. Not really so much the graphics just the artistic design of both games are similar.

In Rift I had a difficult time knowing what to spec in because I had three different tree's. Is there any specific specs I should follow or is it pretty random?

Really you guys I am not trying to "attack" the mmo's listed. This is why I asked for corrections to my current blunt assumptions and conclusions. It would make sense that some people takes it as a personal attack when I am speaking of a game that they enjoy.

I would recommend looking on the forums and do some searching around for some leveling builds. You get to pick your first 3 souls while going through the starter area, but after that the other 5 souls can be purchased in your main capital. It's recommended to pick a soul with a pet for at least one of your souls to help you a bit, but it's not absolutely necessary if you know what you're doing. What class were you thinking of trying?

Really a toss up between a rogue and a mage.

I am currently looking for a MMORPG that catch my interest. Every MMORPG I play as of recent has given me atleast one doubt in playing it. Yes I fell victim to the hype monster a couple of times and come for help after playing SWTOR. These are mmorpg's I have tried if I am wrong in my reason for not playing them please correct me I would greatly appreciate it.

Final Fantasy XI: Few months ago really decided to give this one a go and after a month of playing everyday it became very tiring praying that when I log on there would be somebody on my friendslist or linkshell that would come group with me. Because I couldnt find anyone to group with I couldnt progress at all and this caused me to unsubscribe.

SWTOR: I love BioWare games but the recent batch rub me the wrong way. This game feels like multi-player Mass Effect had a baby with Star Wars. The last game of theirs I enjoyed was Baldur's Gate 2. The dialog was good but thats about all the game has going for it. I unsubscribed because I was incredibly bored with  the bland storyline and cookie cutter combat.

EverQuest: This was my first mmorpg that I loved very much. I had such great adventures in the beginning full of danger and friends. When I hit max level I started raiding and when Gates of Discord came out and Uqua pre-nerf was insanity I quit because SoE butchered this game completely. I really love the idea of truely epic quests.

EverQuest 2: RTM Support & Cash shop made me run.

Age of Conan: Finished tutorial, got lost, found teleport guy whom said "You need expansion sorry guy." Game Over.

Eve: Played it. Got a ship. Got blown up by pirate. Rage quit. Game Over.

WoW: Panda's made me run.

Ultima Online: Havent tried sense EA got their hands on it. I dont trust EA as far as I can throw them. I liked the PvE aspect and lore but I am scared to try because EA butchers.. everything?

Guild Wars: Graphic style and combat system turn me off big time but I own all versions of it.

Anarchy Online: When you can pull about 30 mobs in a group and level 50 times in less than 1 hour it gets kinda pointless. So I quit.

MapleStory: Chibi's made me run.

DAoC: Zergs made me run.

Warhammer Online: Instanced pvp endlessly w/ scenario's suck and also world wasnt really a world. More of a chapter game.

Lineage 2: Point to click made me run.

Aion: End game = One sided fist fight PvP made me run.

Darkfall: I really liked this games graphic style and combat but I dont like the idea that I have to pretty much AFK or bot to get anywhere against veterans, game felt kinda dead.

Lord of the Rings Online: I was a fan of the books but this has zero cannon and turbine game graphics are terrible.

D&DO: Turbine graphics are terrible and its instanced city.

I know it sounds like a rant but I really would appreciate some help with this and any corrections to my opinions would be welcomed. I want a game that I can log on for 2 hours a day and have a blast doing PvP or PvE.

try life, it's a blast.

I work full time and like having a couple hours to myself gaming on MMO's.

Also I need forgot about those two games let me add:

Vanguard: Pretty good but due to SoE's butchering ways they have neglected this game and no added content in ages. I cant find anybody to play with besides roleplayers.

Rift: Played the beta and wasnt impressed with the gimmick of rifts, it felt very repetitive and cookie cutter.

Everyone talks about how a launch is extremely important for the impact game will have on industry, well what better impact than to release a MMO the day before a holiday? Then you wont have to call in sick! *cough**cough*
