Always enjoyed the Amarr look, but the Gallente ships also were also another favorite of mine.

Never really enojoyed the Minmatar or the Caldari ships, as they reminded me of a box or something strapped together with duct tape.  I work in that sort of environment... must be why I didn't care for the ships.

Have you not seen the Minmatar ships in the new engine? Duct tape is so pre-Trinity.

All I DO is stare at my Hurricane in its new pretty graphics!

Wait until you get into a Maelstrom. Of the newer ship models, it got the most love from the new graphics. It's the shiny fins, I tell you.

Yeah, that'll be in about 3 months! ;)

Everyone always makes fun of the Minmatar, but I think my Hurricane is simply gorgeous :)

Snares are CC :)  Anything that limits or prohibits movement/action is CC.

I don't know how this turned out, since I hadn't played it.  But I didn't think that the actual world was gonna change that much, thought it was the gameplay.

Way back when this was first announced, I was super hyped about it.  Mainly because the combat it was supposedly sporting.  Then came along, well, whatever happened.  After they changed the core combat design I no longer even looked at this game.

Anyway, what was so different about the world then and now is what I'm wanting to know?

It went from pretty butterfly-ponies to post-apocolypse war grounds.  It's very dirty, war ridden, etc. with pockets of vegetation that survive, mostly around the Logos or Eloh.  It's more sci-fi than fantasy...take a look at some screenshots :)

I think it's interesting that you can recognize some models/flora (I saw some Eloh in there) from the current game :)

I would suggest reading my Sticky at the top of this forum, has some guids on changing your UI, even pretty much reverting nearly all controls to pre-cu style.

Indeed; great guide, Obraik.  I don't know if you have checked out our new Title program, but you earned the title of Ewok from that guide :)  You can equip it in your user profile.

Ooh, thanks :P

My pleasure!! Keep making such helpful posts and unveil the next SWG title! :)

Well, there's a caveat here - are you looking for a game centered around community, or a game centered around friendly community?

EVE Online is extremely community dependant, with a (nearly entirely) player driven economy, crafting system, and even community ownership of more than half the game.  That being said, it's a very cutthroat community with thieves, pirates, bounty hunters, griefers, gankers, spies, etc.  It ain't pretty, but it's the focus.

For a game with more chat, interaction, etc - guild-centric, solo-unfriendly games often have a lot of chatter.  EverQuest almost always provides a yappy party/guild, but the game is a bit old.  LOTRO had a pretty thriving community last I checked, too :)  And last but not least, in Puzzle Pirates many players just stand around and chat all day.

Hope this helped!

I actually find crowd control highly frustrating in PVP.  I want to fight, not stand around watching everyone else fight while I wait for mesmerize to wear off.  There are other ways to make PVP interesting :)

I'm guessing that the population is mostly in the Kamael area, nowadays.

The Kratos guy is WAY too narrow; I think that matchup is more on hairstyle than body/face shape.

Some are serious, some are bad-ass, some are funny :)

Please remember, I've never done anything to you!

P.S. I also fully supported your right to a daffodil-picking dwarf.

You act like daffodil picking dwarves are anywhere out of the ordinary...

Soloing?  Depends.

CONTENT

1 through 40ish, soloing is a very viable option.  You will have opportunities for SOLO Quests, tasks, and can complete missions for towns, villages, cities, and fortresses around the world.  When you complete ten of these missives, you will obtain tickets that you can exchange for great gear.  Soloers are respected, in my view, in this game.

BUT!  GROUP CONTENT

Dungeons such as TK will provide you will excellent gear.  You can go there at level 26 or so.  You can pretty much skip dungeons, though.  I am, however, still using the same cloak I obtained at level 26 from TK. TK is worth it, and the challenge is fun.  I would go out of my way to complete the group dungeon content for 1) fun, 2) gear, and 3) other reasons.

CLASSES

I am a level 49 Cleric, and it pisses me off what has become of my class.   I cannot solo anything worthwhile at level 49.  I had a Quest where I need to kill 20 3-dot mobs, and it took f-ing forever.  When my friends helped me, at first a Bard and then a Shaman, the kill rate honestly jumped about 500%+.  If you are a serious soloer, go 1) Bear Shaman, 2) Necro, 3) Ranger, 4) Dread Knight, 5) Bard, and the monk and rogue are good soloers too.  My friend, a rogue, thinks the rogue is one of the best solo classes when a player knows how to play the rogue well.   [Blood Mage, Sorceror, Druid can each solo well as well.  I am not sure where to rank them, though.  At one time, I would have ranked the Druid and Pscionist as the top soloers but I do not hear or see much about them soloing.  Perhaps nothing changed.  The point:  like all classes can solo very well except the Warrior and Cleric.]

FORCED-GROUPING? & FORCED-RAIDING?

At the end-game, yes.  I really enjoy grouping in Vanguard, though.  The grouping content was well designed and the dungeons are fun.  Moreoever, a powerful group is around 4 players, although you can up to 6 players.  Similar to EQ 1 when I could do a lot of content with 4 good players, you can do that in Vanguard as well.

I do not think forced-grouping appears until around level 40 when you can no longer do the missives (described above) and now there is raiding.

Vanguard might be forced-raiding end-game, too.  I have not reached the point where I felt the need or forced to raid, but! I keep hearing I need to get swamp armor for raiding or flawless.  Not my style.

Woah, last I played a cleric it was one of the most soloable classes in the game; what's changed?

I've not played on the PVP server so I'm not sure of the mechanics there, but on the non-PVP servers you have to be in a /duel to fight.

Ah, cool!  I think it's a natural progression of ideas, following the MMO "quest" concept :)
