If I played on live I'd just transfer the account to another server. You can also try out the test server. You can level buff a char to level 25 instantly, you'll also get all vet rewards, double exp, and quad exp in hot zones. The con side is that it's a low pop server so getting high end gear is harder.

Wow you clearly don't listen or comprehend well what you've read. The timing of the announcement to not have an official forum is not an indicator for or against Samuraisword's theory. I happen to believe Samuraisword's theory is plausible.

Few realize how bad it can get with evil rogue devs in a mmorpg. They have total access to your hard drive because you have to give the game access to your machine, even if you have a firewall and anti virus up they have a huge amount of access to your computer.

If a dev or devs for whatever reason doesn't like you they can ruin your hard drive so it doesn't boot. Harass you when you're playing by playing tricks on you. Making corpses with derogatory names with you in mind where you bank or hunt.  Causing disconnects or zone crashes where you play. Especially if you're on a test server (with a low population) of a mmorpg.  Yeah I know some of it can be random stuff but if you have all of the above happening it's not random. Dev's can be quite childish if offended by someone in game. It's a dark side of mmorpgs.

Which Game (MMORPG)  You Want To Succeed The Most?

Spiritglow
Many players from EQ1 are looking forward to Vanguard and they have a pent up need for the true succesor to EQ1. For those players Vanguard is the game they want to like the most.  By some accounts Vanguard has been rushed to market. Now is your time to speak up as to why you support Vanguard and will continue to support Vanguard even though it may have been rushed to market for whatever reason.

Spiritglow
I suspect it's the old EQ1 syndrome. The better looking your char (race) is the worse the stats (physical) conversely, the worse your char looks the better the stats, regen and all that with exp penalties. That's my guess.

Why pay 15 to 17 dollars a month to play when it would just be an old school 2d shooter with some rpg elements? There would be no 4 to 5 year developmet. At 1 to 2 dollars a month it could be a gold mine to a company.  It probably would take less than 6 months to code and produce. SuperSmash player probably wouldn't want an update every 6 months and what would an update consist of? More of the same in different locals. A map swap...

Spiritglow
K, Anarchy, I'm changing my mind about paying to have a look at Vanguard. I bought the pre-order In part due to your posts. If it's what you say then I'll probably  buy the game if not then it's just 10 dollars.

Spiritglow
Well, I'm officially changing my mind and paying 10 bucks to give the beta a try (I still prefer a non raid server).  Better to pay 10 dollars to have a look than to pay 50.

Spiritglow
I'd give it a try if the price point was very low per month. No more then 1 to 2 bucks a month.

How timely is this conversation. Kudos to mmorpg.com for making it. Some of the mmorpgs are so tired with much sameness.

I'd like to see player made content. Player GM's who can create adventures like the single player games. Mmorpg mods if you will.

Multiple ruleset servers to fit different playstyles. Group and raid only servers. Group and solo only servers. Classic servers.  Player created servers. After a few months only the most popular servers get to stay up. Let the players innovate and let the player market decide which servers they like for it's rulesets. It doesn't have to be like the Wild West but have the devs setup guidelines and let the players run with it.

I'd like to see a Guild Wars set in a persistent world and I'd pay monthly for it. Mmorpgs are just scratching the surface of what can be done.

Lol, I was specifically refering to the areas where numerous people are competing for a finite number of spawns for kill X quests, when grouping simply lets everyone accomplish the quests much easier by cooperating rather than competing for spawn, it's logical and sensible and most people accept when it's pointed out to them, some don't read chat or are set on solo-ing only ever. I find that a little bizarre when it's to everyone's detriment including theirs. Solo-ing is much more prevalent in the MMO community today than the community of the past, because alot of recent MMO's have reinforced that grouping is a detriment and some people expect the same in VG.

I like that VG isn't that way, and get a little tired of people suggesting it should be changed to be the way all the other recent & upcoming MMO's are geared, if that makes me somehow insecure & needy in your eyes hey whatever floats your boat. I have little trouble finding or starting groups in general thanks & never have no matter what class or MMO I've been playing.
Yeah looks like it was a bad or moody day for you. My apologies. If I buy Vanguard and we crossed paths I'd group with you. Goodluck.

I only have time for a good group once or twice a week myself so a strictly group oriented game is not what I am looking for either. However I really think Vanguard need to focus on what it was originally intended to be . A group oriented, hard core game No way it will ever be a mainstream game now and I really think Sigil need s to refocus back to their original design and not be a jack of all trades game. There are too many other games coming out this year which will be focused toward the casual gamer and were designed for that from the beginning.  Performance issues can be over come, people upgrade their machines and what is a heavy engine today will play smoothly on newer hardware. Content can be added, animations smoothed etc. However poor design is a game killer. No one will dethrone WoW for a long time, I think newer MMORPGs need to identify their target audience and not try an beat WoW at their own game. There is a good market for group oriented games, Vanguard could fill it if they refocus.

While I don't think WoW is a design "triumph" in any sene of the word (apart from subs obviously), I do agree that Vanguard should not attempt to become something it was never meant to be. I'm not convinced Sigil are doing that yet, but more than one MMO has made the mistake of attempting it. SWG being the most noteable example.

I honestly think that is why they are releasing the game in sub par shape now. They lost their focus some where in the middle of beta and dicided to try become a joat ( jack of all trades) MMORPG instead of maintaining their original design plan. Now instead of being the best hard core game on the market time was wasted trying to "soften" the game up. Time which could have been spent developing and polishing content.
lol, I have an idea. Why don't they make a group only server for you diehard groupers. In fact they could make the whole game group only and then lets see how long it lasts.

Spiritglow
If you're playing a mmo and you offer to chat or group and you don't get an answer why are you worried about it? Find someone else to chat or group with and address within yourself why you feel entitled to a response. Without that sense of entitlement you wouldn't feel disappointed. Keeping offering to chat and group and eventually those offers will be returned.  Right now you're coming off as clingy and needy. It's gonna be the same no matter what mmo you play. It's that at the beginning there's much chatter and grouping in a new mmo but later it cools off so you might as well stop expecting a response and then you'll be pleasantly pleased that you got a response or group.

Nice post Mr. Petter. I'm over 30 and started playing EQ1 in 2000. I also let a few responsibilities go while playing EQ1, lol.  I may or may not be there in the game but good luck with Vanguard.

Spiritglow
Bah, you all know he probably didn't mean 45 million a month.

Thanks for the Brad link, it may well change my mind about giving Vanguard a try. Although a non raid server would really address many concerns of casual gamers, my concerns as well. 50 percent solo and 50 percent group or 40/60 solo/group isn't a bad choice for such an alternate server and would attract many  who otherwise wouldn't give Vanguard a chance or those who would just quit because of the difficulty factor. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these niche factors in the game were part of what made Brad go back to SOE. Of course Microsoft would have had to agree or lose all of their investment in Sigil, I suppose.

I'm impressed by their website and how smoothly they get you hooked into the story line, very appealing, the music too. It's New America exploration period setting is novel as well, companies are moving past the traditional high fantasy orcs, trolls, dwarves and elves. Whoever those guys are they are very imaginative, looks like they are poised to upset some old school mmorpg apple carts.  The ability to have a family of characters and control three at a time rather then have to multibox is neat and the ability to trade your characters, how cool is that. I hope it's a persistent world instead of mostly being instanced. This game is now on my list of games to watch.

Spiritglow
For some reason I can't reply with quotes but here is my reply.

They are called henchmen and  yes they had limited AI so you had to adapt and be flexible to what they were capable of in a fight. No big problem, you as a human are adaptable and flexible to circumstances? Right?

Now flash forward to Guild Wars: Nightfall (a new expansion) and you now have controllable henchmen aka (Heroes). Yep that's right, controllable henchmen err Hereos. You control their placement and spells and more. What other online rpg allows you to have and control your own computer generated party? Plus it's just not given to you, you have to Earn your Heroes. Yep, can you say EARN?

Spiritglow
I play Guild Wars and I buy every expansion because I believe in what the Devs are doing. Solo all you want, Group all want, NO Raiding! You can solo or group for the best gear in the game. Oh, did I say No Raiding! :)

It's two major shortcomings are those invisible walls which has been addressed by the expansions somewhat and it not having a whole world persistency, persistency exist in towns though. If you solo a lot, zones will feel empty like a single player rpg.

Why anyone wants to solo in a multiplayer game is beyond comprehension. There are so many better open ended single player RPGs out there that would be cheaper and more suited to your style of gameplay. The point of MMOs is interaction with other players and the classes themselves are built around group tactics that use each classes individual strengths to compliment each other.

These games are supposed to be derivitive of pen and paper D&D and when is the last time you and the DM just sat down and played a campaign just the 2 of you?

I will bet never.....

You are amazed because you assume you know what a mmorpg should be and you accept that like it's some holy gospel or something written in stone. We are free beings created to be free. We are free to make any kind of mmorpg we want, we as free beings have that control.  Problem is you want others to conform to what you think a mmorpg ought to be.  Let it go bro,  our world  is a very big world.  There's room for many different  kinds of mmorpgs or many different rule set servers within a mmorpg to suit various styles of play. Our imagination is our only limit. We have just scratched the surface of what a mmorpg can be. You'll see :)
