I am not exactly a successfull game designer myself.  But, my opinion would be to specialised yourself, as a game designer.  (Of course, Flash games designing required to be a jack-of-all trade designer and would constitute a counter example, the absolutely exception to the rule I just spoke, as you lonely must single-handle possible dozens of design in a year LOL, now that would be time to be a generalist and not specialised yourself at all)

See, there are MANY peoples who want to design.  Find your strongpoints and specialised into it.  Even Smed or Stateman can do the comon sense job, cutting stuff into place.

You can just start from a simple exercise as a DM.  Did you try a RPG club?  What types of players did you attract in your games?  I know for 1, I was attracting extremely different peoples, some very popular, and some extremely outcast in the "RPG community", I was seen as a cruel, yet lawfull DM, where every player has a chance, an opportunity.  Now, you have to decode that, from a "Game designing" perspective.  See, in these RPGs clubs, usually the peoples are forming small groups and move together, as groups.  Me, the unique thing was, that these group "usually" break to join my games.  Now, that doesn't mean that much, yet it does pinpoint to a few particularities I have.

Just as in everything in life, find what make you unique, good, wanted.  See, other peoples will put labels on you, willingly or not, you will be task with precise tasks (never those you really want).  At least, make sure that peoples see your strong points, so at least you are likely to be task with stuff you enjoy in a way, or another.

Almost everyone is creative in this field, so if this is all you can find about yourself, or other can find about yourself, you may as well just give up.  Find your credo and use it!

City of Heroes/Villains is definitely the best grouping game out there, IMO.  At least 5-10 years ahead of any competitor, group-wise.

However, you also mentionned raid-content...and CoX has 2 raid-encounters...for raiding content, my advice would be about as interesting as a catholic priest talking about sex.

You two should really choose what you want.

However, if you pick 1 support and 1 melee, it would prolly be a lot better.

Corruptors/MMs/Dominators + Brute/Stalker would yield better results.

Some combo are extremely potent together.  For example, if you have a SS/Ela brute and a ???/Thermal corruptor, you would PWNS seriously.

Corruptors are prolly the best pick for grouping, everyone is always happy to see 1 more corruptor (especially a kinetic or a rad).   I never see a group unhappy to see too many corruptors. :)  Never.  Althought, every combo could work, some work better. :)

I don't like sewers team myself.

There will still be many groups like that in the game, but they are NOT representative of the game, nor the players mentality.

See, Sewer groups are peoples who want to level up FAST and bypass the early level asap.  I have nothing against efficiency and I am extremely relentless at moments myself.  It is just that I felt that these groups, they are not really group, they are many powerlevelers trying to gain XP fast and to help the newbie who died not understanding the game...well...many will just not care for you, and this totally turn me off these sewer groups.

Your post, is the very reason I dislike these sewer groups.  If for any reason I would have been in your sewer group, I would have been with you, by zone in, or giving you an awaken...or telling you what info you need to know.  See, for some players you are an opportunity rather than a fellow player...

See, there is a fine line between been reckless and gaining you (and all the group) awesome XP with my craziness...and leaving peoples clueless behind.  I mean, fellow players doesn't have to understand everything which is happening, but they must understand enought to have a good time.  Dying and not knowing what to do is NOT fun for anyone; and I am sorry I wasn't there to show you the ropes these vets obviously didn't show you.

I don't think you are a minority.  I think there are many peoples like you.

However, these games seems to faill to appeal to you that well...and most of the appeal seems to be other players.  Even lowly players that, like me, might have objectives such as earning X, Y or Z.

There are 2 basics ways they can "fix" this problematic.  1- They find a better way to interest you.  2- They keep interesting other peoples in the hope it will interest you enought to "group these weirdos".  And of course, they are not exclusive.  Devs can pursues both objectives at the same time.

Why would I want to log in a character which has nothing to gain?  Maybe I would want to help friends (most likely reason).  Maybe I would want to see something I miss (okay, honestly, how much exploration content do you think you can put in that way for a non-explorer?).  Maybe I would just want to mess around because I am bored and help noobs.

But none of these reasons is even remotedly close to the draw, the impulse, the desire, the longing, I have when I know there is something to earn just after this next level!

EVAT are a lot of work and considerations.

They want them to be more than Kheldians.

I am trying to figure them out.  Crab is pure DPS if I understand well, kinda like a blaster.  Mace is kinda like a half MM if I understand well.  Mind Fortunata is kinda like a dominator.  Last widow is kinda like a scrapper.  Now, how did they balance it out?  There are a lot of things to consider for them, both from red side only and from both sides.  I assume that they will have some defense/resist, but I have no idea how you can compare them, and about hps, I am completely clueless.

For example Blasters have the 4th highest amount of hps (behind tanker, brutes and scrappers)...

Hehe, Stateman doesn't have to die.  :)

He is just less likely to be the center of focus, yet he still can be.

For me, it was simply when they decide that in order to master anything, you have to do everything.

Incompatible on the most core design.  If all I want is to be good at X, then I should only have to do X to progress.  If I also want to be good at Y, then I should just have to also do Y activities.

Somehow, they believe that they could expect a player to play EVERYTHING or to just accept to be a second class character.  I don't mind been a second class character in activities I don't do, but I sure wouldn't accept been a second class character in what I do.  I am not a monk in RL.

PS: That same reason also apply for most MMOs, althought it might need to be formulated against a specific gameplay.

To all devs/fans who have seen their feeling hurted by fanatics beholding to a franchise legacy (I am such a fanatic sometimes)...

I found this funny video, portraying the fans in the worst possible light.

But it also make me laugh of a good hearth.  Enjoy!

Hehe, redid it today, but I was in my arrogant mindset.  :)

You Are A:

Neutral Good Elf Druid/Ranger (3rd/2nd Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 13
Dexterity- 16
Constitution- 13
Intelligence- 18
Wisdom- 17
Charisma- 16

Alignment:
Neutral Good- A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Elves are known for their poetry, song, and magical arts, but when danger threatens they show great skill with weapons and strategy. Elves can live to be over 700 years old and, by human standards, are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. Elves are slim and stand 4.5 to 5.5 feet tall. They have no facial or body hair, prefer comfortable clothes, and possess unearthly grace. Many others races find them hauntingly beautiful.

Primary Class:
Druids- Druids gain power not by ruling nature but by being at one with it. They hate the unnatural, including aberrations or undead, and destroy them where possible. Druids receive divine spells from nature, not the gods, and can gain an array of powers as they gain experience, including the ability to take the shapes of animals. The weapons and armor of a druid are restricted by their traditional oaths, not simply training. A druid's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that they can cast.

Secondary Class:
Rangers- Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

AMEX is crap here. Almost no one accepts it.

If the issue is just that almost no one accepts it, it is fine with me.  If the AMEX staff are top notch with me, nothing else matter.

I am a customer.  I will determined what is okay, and what is not.  And if a company doesn't offer an adequate way to acquire the item, their lost, I will find another seller.

Here,  AMEX is accepted in most places.  However, peoples selling items don't like AMEX much, they charge a LOT more than Visa, but as a customer, why would I care?  I want total and inconditional support when I am rightfull, and Visa is unable to provide such a support.

Call your credit card company.  Challenge the charge.  Money back.  End of story.   Just remember, SoE gets to challenge your fraud claim and if SoE proves itself right and you are wrong, you pay the cost of the investigation and are still responsible for the charge.

It would be a lot easy to just ask SoE for a refund.

As you can see, I already ask SOE 2 times with a previous post (copy/paste)...also ask it twice at the bugged email they give me and another time filled with insult and dirty comments.

I don't know how often I should ask Sony, but in my book, 2 + 2 + angry shitnut = they won't get it, ever.

Visa already "refuse" the challenge the charge thing (well I could have proceed forward anyway), since I have no proof (it is a CANCEL BUTTON, what proof do you need, and I NEVER access the game past that free month so).

Visa lost a customer, SOE lost a lot on future games which give me a mild interest, all these games where you feel unsure, look kinda okay but...well, they won't sell anything there anymore.  And, I will NEVER use a CC again with SOE and I expect the pre-paid time card to be LESS expansive since I have to bother with something annoying.  In the past I purchase this game & Matrix Online; they both only give me a mild interest.  In the future, such games won't sell with me.  Agency is such a game which give me a mild interest, well, I can say they lost 1 sold copy there.  Many other titles to come.

Now now, it is only $30, honestly, the amount is ridiculous.  It is the principle.  If the most awesome girl on the planet rape you, she is sexy and all, but it is still a rape.

I always get concerned when any game or corporation switches focus to a specific consumer type.  I am not saying Turbine has done this completely......yet, but I am concerned.

The one strength I see in LoTRO is that all current types of gaming are fairly well balanced so that if people choose they can focus on what they like.  PvP, PvE, grouping, solo, raiding, crafting, exploring, music, hopefully fishing will work nicely, etc.  Game after game that focuses on one dynamic over another tends to alienate the other types of gamers, contrary to what the PvP'ers would like the gaming world to believe.

The only peoples seeing a "fair balance" are peoples getting more than they deserve.

Name me 3 games which cater to group of 3-8 players?  I can't.

No, I really can't name any game today that caters to group players, although 4 years ago all the market leaders did.  But what I CAN say is that LoTRO is probably the most balanced for choice of the different types of gaming styles.  But I already said that.

Name me who did?  EQ never caters to group players...nor did WoW...nor did Lineage...nor did DAoC.  I never saw any MMO caters specifically to groupers except perhaps CoX (which can arguably be said to caters to groupers...or not).

Name me 3 games which try to re-create the spirit that EVERYTHING is possible to a small group of 3-8 friends, just like the PnP games we used to play?

Seems like my EVAT will be on Liberty and not on Triumph afterall, which is good for everyone I guess...

Or bad if I am that bad!  :P

I will miss these 2 initial gift, but I have my 2 years veteran thingy (which means I spent more than half the time unsubscribed, fitting for an achiever in this game I guess)...unless I rejoin just before I12...hmmm  I am afraid I will aggro if I rejoin before...hehe, not a good thing. :)

The EVAT would keep me focused on something new, so I would not aggro until friends ask me to switch to an old character (most likely bound to happen), which then is extremely dangerous of aggroing/re-activating any reason why I quit. :P  My precious lil Dia... (I like this character, what can I say?  For DESIGN reasons...so when she is not up to my hopes, I either fix that or realize it is hopeless...and when I realize something is hopeless, not good...hehehe)  :P  Me precious lil Dia. :P
