General: Forum Spotlight: Speed Leveling
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/04/07 10:04:20 PM
While it really isn't an MMORPG, I never felt compelled to level quickly in Planetside. The only grind I ever felt in that game was command rank. Sure you get the occasional power session to get the few more BEP so you can get to the next battle rank and an extra cert point, but I never felt like I had to to stay competitive, just that it gave me a chance to try a new piece of equipment. |

Lol glad I never had to pay for it. probably the only reason I even played. Sorry for the guys that did drop cash on this though. |

Well, everything is back up (except D2D) and a quick search ingame didnt show any NPCs giving out stuff. :/ |

Site is back up apparently. Game servers might be as well. Still, with the game taken off D2D, plus the reported "Death of Phylon" NPC in game, it looks grim. I never actually saw the npc, just hearsay. Not that most people here need even that much to cry scam :P |

lol apparently they just shut everything down as Im typing this. Website, game servers, etc. A friend told me there was an npc giving stuff away in game.
Too bad for all the people that payed. I was on a free ride sinc ei had an EA citizen account.
And I suppose I should have apologised for my positive comments about this game in the past. I never really experienced RRs handling of TC since I came from the EA side of tyhings, but at least this will hopefully be the final piece of proof that RR scams (or at least somehow gets money from people for nothing).
So yeah. Stay away from RR |

I wouldnt expect any crowds. Primetime is the only time Id expect to see any decent population. My char got wiped pretty much the first day of live, so the only places I really saw people were in the starting area and one of the easier zones (central). Night crews probably consist of maybe a half-dozen people, but like i said, I havnt plyaed since live much, so there may be more. I still wouldnt expect too many.
Also about the forums. For a little while they did have a link to the old forums up. However, it was only available when logged in. I imagine this will be the same when they get new forums up, so it wont be available to people who dont have the game. |

Good Stuff about the game:

The music is kind of wierd. In Most cases, the game will play a sort of techno beat. However, some actions seem to trigger the old Digitally Imported radio that was used for a bit in beta (as well as in Endless Ages).

It really seems like whoever is managing the release isn't talking to the Devs. The game has made major improvements since it started beta (new UI, new Nexus hubworld, more arenas, much better questing) but there are still way too many game crippling bugs and incomplete features for them to release.
I want this game to do OK, despite RR's past. That may cause me to put on some rose colored spectacles when talking about this game, but I still can see when they are making a big mistake like this. Unfortunately, this just seems to fit right in with RR's track record, so any hopes that the company might have. Despite my desire to see more people playing this game, i can't with good conscience tell people to pay for this game in its current state. Hopefully the devs will at least do their best to fix said bugs and complete said features in time to get *some* people playing this game. But it's probably already to late for that, and I guess it's a shame to see what could have been a unique game meet this fate :/ |

There is a tiny inconspicious button on the front page that links to a D2D download page that costs $15. I think it supposedly has a $5 a month fee, but I really have no idea what the status of the game is. I have not payed any money and am still able to log in and play, however I had an Endless Ages account and they supposedly got 2 months free once it went live.
Too bad I can't access their forums becuase the new website is broke. |

I played the original Endless Ages and have been messing around in this game since very early beta. I must say, that while there are a number of issues with the game, rapid reality has done a good job communicating on the forums (at least while the forums were accessible) and have made massive improvements in a relatively short time. Quests, items, arenas, zones, UI, they have all undergone significant and beneficial changes since the beta started. I'll certainly admit the game is nowhere near perfect, and even if the devs make every right decision it wont be a big game, but it can certainly do a lot to satisfy a niche market if they make the right dchoices.
I cant say much to the old TC community. This is not the game you wanted for certain, and I'm not trying to defend RR for their actions on that front. I'm also not trying to be a blind fanboy who ignores all the issues with the website and some of the significant bugs that are still in the game. I'm just saying that beyond all those problems, theres a fairly enjoyable game here with what appears to be a dedicated development team. |

Despite their similarities, there is a very clear distinction between this game and any sort of fantasy. granted, I have heard mention of future plans for sorcery and the return of shapeshifting from the original EA, but there is still an overwhelming sci fi theme.

"Phylon is a Sci-Fi themed, MMORPG 3rd person shooter."
Why is the genre listed as being Fantasy? |
