Children who are spanked have lower IQs

Damn you're right, everyone that gets spanked fears and hates their parents. And there is a big difference between spanking and hurting a child. A swat to the ass that stings for 15 seconds isn't hurting the child. People like you need to get off the high horse you preach from and let people raise their own children. The fact that there are millions upon millions of people that turned out perfectly fine even though they were spanked just debunks your opinion. Then there's the millions upon millions of parents who lack the ability to discipline their children using "your" suggested solution. The fact that you think DHS should take children from their parents for spanking disgusts and amuses me at the same time. Go back to San Francisco and love the smell of your own farts while the rest of society doesn't view life through the lens of a bleeding heart liberal. |

Children who are spanked have lower IQs
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 9/25/09 1:40:00 AM
You opened up a big ole can of worms. I 100% support spanking kids. Asshole children don't get it unless there's some form of measurable punishment. When I see kids acting out of control in Walmart, I just don't get it. The parents basically beg their child to stop, the kids keeps throwing a fit, so the parent caves in and buys them whatever. If I made a scene in public, I got one warning. If I continued, we exited the store immediately, went home, and my dad got a belt. Then again, the jury seems to be pretty split on this issue. |

Only movies of his I like are Independence Day and I Am Legend. He has what I call the "Kevin Costner Syndrome," i.e. he plays Will Smith playing Will Smith in every movie he's in. I hope that makes sense.

I LOVE her!! (smart atheist, saying it like it is)

Meh, she's bringing up points from Philosophy 101. I'm not saying she's not making valid points, but God's omniscience, omnipotence, the existence of evil, and free will are the most common arguments against God. |

Self-explanatory topic. I was going to create a "What made you frown" topic, but then I end up just feeling shitty when I read the posts.

Interpretation of Robert Frost poem?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 9/23/09 8:59:04 PM
Wow I had a paragraph typed out and realized it was completely contradictory. To put it shortly, he voices his distaste in meaningless walls throughout the poem, but also seems to pay homage to those that stay true to their roots. He likes and hates walls. As you can see, I regularly critique literature.
EDIT: On an unrelated note, thank you qazyman. Your avatar inspired me to check out Farscape, and now I have a new SciFi show to attempt to fill the void BSG has left. Granted, BSG's void will never be filled by any other show ever, unfortunately. |

I quit the series around book seven. The series really, really dried up at that point in my opinion. I mean, I went from an avid reader, to so unentertained that I completely lost interest in the series. |

Normally I'm not so adamant about things, but read "The Book of the New Sun" Series, by Gene Wolfe. I've read it 10+ times, and I still can't even come close to picking up on all the underlying meanings. Premise: It chronicles the journey and ascent to power of Severian, a disgraced journeyman torturer who rises to the position of Autarch, the one ruler of the free world. Severian, who claims that he has perfect memory, tells the story in first person; the books are presented by Wolfe as a translation of Severian's writings into contemporary English. The series takes place in the distant future, where the Sun has dimmed considerably and the Earth (referred to in the series as "Urth") is slowly cooling.
Every time I start this series, I think I have a firm grasp on what's going on. Boy am I wrong. For re-readability (which is what makes the classiscs like LOTR so enjoyable,) try this series out. |

Tell me what you think of this poem?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 9/23/09 12:12:24 AM
a clasped silhouette of love will forever be seen by the waters of the glimmering moonlight. I like that line. The diction is a bit flowery for my tastes. I prefer a common man's word use. As an example, my favorite poem:
The Cuckold's Song - By Leonard Cohen If this looks like a poem |

I don't mess with any p2p stuff, just legit direct download links. Offer is out to anyone, as my taste in music is enviable. |

I've got a tan mark on the left side of my forehead. The mark is invisible in winter months, but when I get a tan the mark gets darker than the rest of my tan. Lame birthmark I know. Oh, and my left foot is a half size bigger than my right foot if that counts. |
