They could just make it so how far you glide is in proportion to your characters weight. If you're fully armored, you don't go very far. That way you couldn't just have a fully decked out guild ready for battle glide into your city over your walls. |

Is this new progression server a hope for MMOs?
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 2/05/11 12:53:47 PM
Man I can't believe they are finally doing this. I've been petitioning and trying to talk this up for 5 years. I just wish I had the time to devote to it at this point in my life. Nothing compared to classic EQ and the first 2 expansions. Never been anything like it, never will be again. |

Yes, it is - no its not, yes it is, no its not. You sound like a bunch of 8 year olds. You can point all day long at a short list of features Rift boasts calling itself innovative. The truth is, it offers a level of simplicity that makes it viable to play by virtually anyone that can read. That system was perfected by WoW to expand their playerbase ($$$), which is why the game gives players who have played WoW the same feeling. Its not to say theres nothing for the more skilled player, but that sort of triviality just rubs some players the wrong way. Those of us who have played the older harder games like DAoC, EQ, UO or AC etc, that require more thinking, time and effort, will never appreciate these games. The rest of you who just want a casual game, will argue and defend Rifts "innovative possibilities" till you're blue in the face never convincing the "hardcore" crowd of anything because it would never provide us with the sense of accomplishment that older games gave us. Theres nothing wrong with enjoying Rift, but save your breath trying to differentiate it from WoW in referring to its mechanics or level of complexity - it mirrors it. Play what you want, who cares who else enjoys it. |

The engine is not the culprit in the downfall of these games utilizing it.
You can have a good looking game sitting on this engine, and you can have a challenging game with complex mechanics on this engine. In the end, its what the developers do with it that makes the game, and they are failing to move the MMO genre past this simplistic, instant gratification, trivial, theme park paradigm that has plagued the industry since 2004. |

MO "Under Development" Section Partially Updated Today
General Discussion « Mortal Online 12/09/10 11:23:19 AM
Without pve and a world worth fighting over that yields the better materials and items, the pvp will still feel pointless just like it has from day 1. If MO adds a bunch of dungeons and territory and stuff worth fighting for, I would consider going back. As it is today, its too small and doesn't have enough content to make the pvp they have based the game around worth engaging in. |

Since when is being a "WoW-Clone" such a bad thing?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/26/10 9:04:40 PM
Only someone who didn't play EQ would really think WoW endgame was that hardcore. I leveled 2 characters up (one in original, one in TBC) and joined guilds that got to the end content in literally a matter of a couple months. Lets be honest, if you put the time in grinding out BGs, and do light arenas, your gear is easily good enough to compete. In EQ, you couldn't even raid in a new expansion if your gear wasn't from the top tier of the previous expansion. WoW in contrast drops green items in a new expansion that make the previous expansions purples look like vendor trash. T R I V I A L I Z A T I O N. |

Since when is being a "WoW-Clone" such a bad thing?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/26/10 8:49:00 PM
WoW brought communism to gaming and, thereby, trivialized every aspect of what was previously the MMORPG.
WoW put everyone on the same level regardless of whether you are truely a skilled player with a great deal of time to devote, or a total newb that plays very casually. With very little effort, you can compete or beat the player that spends all their time playing the game and min/maxing every aspect of their character. Just as communism seeks to redistribute wealth to bring everyone to the middle, WoW has gradually trivilized what was previously a skill heavy/time heavy genre into a giant digital fantasy social gathering where everyone can be a winner. Essentially, if everyone isn't equal, they nerf the hardcore and make things easier for the casual until everyone is exactly the same. |

Originally posted by TJ_420 Very true post. This game needs content to make everything worth doing. The players needs a reason to fight... something to fight over. We need items, land, resources, mines and npc villages and localities that give an advantage so we have points of contention. Right now, theres very little prime real estate, very few npcs and theres little value in armor and weapons when theres an abundance of resources coming out of infinite nodes. Yet, I do disagree about maps. I don't think we should have one. I played EQ for 3 years without one and found my way just fine. When player made maps are in, you can bet they wont show your current location. Last, this reviewer is clearly not the target audience. Without purple and orange armor pieces and a life preserver around his waist at all times, he would never feel secure. The first time a guy like this spends a day or two gearing up just to get ganked outside of town and lose it, he would cancel his account. |

New player, looking for server/leveling buddy or group
The Tavern (General) « Everquest II 11/17/09 4:29:00 AM
Me and a friend are playing. Its our first time on eq2 though and we are taking it really slow. We are playing a lot, but we are putting a lot of points into AAs so we can enjoy the quests and just take it all in. If you want to just chill and not rush through levels, you could group with us. We are 24 atm and currently have 30ish AAs each. Msg Wallay in game. |

After one week of playing Vanguard....
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 7/04/09 2:49:31 AM
Vanguard was a great game at the start, and even better now that theres a trial island. Unfortunately, the content thins out more and more as you level up, and at 45+ all the content feels like your run of the mill-generic-SOE-bullcrap-autogenerated- grindfest-wtfroflbbq-timesink garbage totally lacking in any kind of creativity. Vanguard is a shadow of what it was meant to be. You can feel what its supposed to be when you create your character and start out on your early adventures, but dont be fooled. The feeling fades away quickly. |

The best thing about Darkfall is its easier (and more fun) to reacquire money and items that it is in most games. The game is about pvp, not spending days farming some rare spawn to obtain a decent robe that gives you a huge advantage over everyone else. I would be very annoyed if they wiped abilities though. I spent all day (a day off from work) getting magic, gathering and professions skilled while the sync issues were too bad to fight with. |

This is not going to affect the population. The things that were acquired yesterday could have easily been obtained legitimately. Darkfall is about skill and numbers, not levels. You can go directly to harder mobs in the game if you have 5-10 people and farm the crap out of them getting 50-100 gold per drop. In hours you could be sitting on 10s of thousands of gold. Darkfall is about numbers and coordination. Its not really that big of a deal. |

Im a beta tester and I didnt say buyer beware. My only beef with Darkfall is that early on you can't create your own "class" with a customized set of skills. Everyone is a clone for quite a while and those who really like to be a caster, or healer get the shaft for a while until they skill up. As for these recent issues, yes its frustrating but Aventurine will fix it and will no doubt compensate everyone for errors on their part. The syncing issue from launch day is being fixed now and things will eventually be smooth as they were in beta... yes beta was actually quite smooth in pvp, even when playing on a server on the other side of the planet from my location. |

Having a clanstone != having a clan city. Cities require time and resources. If you can get a 10-20 people together, getting a clanstone and city going shouldn't be that hard. Its building the city up, maintaining and defending it that will be hard. |
